Story: the story is wonderful, romantic, and dramatic. It's touching, so real. We can find love, true love, this kind of love that stay with you for life. For life, and after.
Acting/Cast: oh, God, Vic is amazing! He's perfect in this role, he's perfect for this kind of roles! He makes me cry so many times.. Eun Hye is really good, too. She plays the role of this little sweet and strong girl, and she can play it perfectly without say a word. Her eyes talk for her.. The rest of the cast is perfect, they're good actors, from Megan Lai, to the stubborn Andy Hui, to the funny Lin Mei Xiu. Thanx to all for their performances!
Music: touching, every song is perfect for the moment and for the emotions our lovers are living.. Beautiful the scene where Eun Hye/Shen Shen sings using sign language.
Rewatch Value: absolutely, I want to rewatch it!
Overall: this is a 9! A different final maybe could turn it into a 10.. But, I know, in the deep of my heart, that this final is a perfect final for this perfect story. This love story is absolutely THE love story.
"For the martians"... I know, we are a lot in this world. I hope we can find soon..

Vic Zhou is a handsome, talented actor, but he could not save this drama. It was utterly boring with the characters frozen as flashbacks played for minutes at a time. The first episode starts with 2 children meeting in a hospital where the girl has been taken after a bus accident. Although no one can figure out why, it left her a mute. She can see and hear, but can't speak. That is the premise for the drama. Let's think about this for a minute. Millions of people are in accidents and are there mutes walking around using sign language?
The children agree to meet 13 years later. During the 13 years of absence they continue to love each other after only meeting for a few days, another absurdity.
The writer then uses continual contrived events to bring the two together 13 years later. For example, Wei Yi's car breaks down and Shem Shem just happens to be driving the same road at the same moment. Or Shem Shem is on a bus and Wei Yi gets on the very same one at the same time.
Around Episode 6 (this is not a spoiler, it is in the summary above) Wei Yi discovers he is dying. For the next 13 episodes the drama is set in mourning. The mood, tempo, and music slow down even more. There are no big surprises, everything is predictable.
I always cry at melodramas, but not this one. It was a relief at the end. If you want more of Vic Zhou, watch Mars or Meteor Garden.

Soft melodrama with shining moments
I watched this when I was younger and the Silence song still sticks with me today. It has all of the typical tropes of childhood friends, missed meetings, misunderstandings, cancer that were popular in dramas of the time but the story wasn't weighed down by them and ofc the leads were absolute eye candy.I found this after Park Eun Hye's Jewel in the Palace and was thrilled to see her not only in starring in a main role but in a CHINESE drama so of course I had to watch, meanwhile Vic Zhou was very young and very handsome back then. The second ML ended up being kinda annoying because he was so loud and brash all the time, but thankfully even he mellowed out by the end and had the ML and FL had their (short) happy times together.
It was also around this time that some cdramas started using English songs for stuff (100% Senorita is another one) and Josh Groban's "Try to Remember" really stuck with me as the couple song the ML and FL used to listen together on earphones...you know, back when all of them were wired so you had to sit side by side to share an earpiece. Ahhhh I cried so much at the sad scenes.
The most fun bit of this drama I think is also the "star sign" that ML and FL made up to talk about keeping connected with each other. Ending it with the FL on the beach making that sign towards the sky to the deceased ML was both pretty and tragic and beautiful and it still stays with me years after the series ended. Overall a cute series with great chemistry, average frustration (of course the ML's parents object to the match and there's another girlfriend in there), and all right plot!
I also thought it was genius they made Park Eun Hye's character mute cause that just sidestepped all the lip-sync matching issues she would've had speaking Korean for her lines!

Selfless love
The premise of this series was very touching and appealing. The character development of all the characters was remarkable. Of course, I loved Vic Chou! The female lead did a superb job conveying her thoughts and emotions without speaking. Overall, good storyline and excellent acting. On the negative side there were too many flashbacks. They created an exhausting amount of unnecessary redundancy. It made the series seem choppy and at times hard to follow. This series would benefit from some serious editing. The many instances of selfless love and devotion was heart touching. I've only watched one other series which had this amount of angst, i.e., "Remembering Lichen". I would love to watch this series again, but unfortunately, the redundancy and lack of flow ad nauseam prevents me from spending hours rewatching it. I do need to repeat that the acting was beyond wonderful. Was this review helpful to you?

Am I the only one who keeps on listening to Try To Remember and other songs in this drama? Because I was so crazy about it. I could listen to the OST in repeat and cry a river, LOL XD
Anyway, the casts acted really well. The story is very interesting at least for that time--I bet this slow-paced story will bore people nowadays. The story is charming, one of that story which feels like a dream. Highly recommended for old Taiwan drama lovers, especially Vic Zhou's fans <3
