You can't tell it briefly Here is a very interesting interpretation of FangFeng Bei's phrases.https://www.douban.com/group/topic/292827429/?_i=8086324EOUJaxC
This is one of the phrases

OMG. We finally got a comment history function! And other things too.
For anybody looking for it: Your avatar -> Profile -> More -> comments
I got excited, and then realised that it's only for the comments on the general boards. Pooh! Better than nothing.
Will they do something for the forum posts? All do we need to wait another 89 years???
Wait, WUt??? Nooo!!! I thought they were all grouped together under comments. sigh. They even have Likes histories, but nothing for the forums?
Kokuto:
AH:
So nice to be able to find old all those old comments (and likes!) so easily now - even comments from nine years ago!
Yes! I'm glad it is retroactive, and it does cover many different types of comments ... just not the forum ones.

::So nice to be able to find old all those old comments (and likes!) so easily now - even comments from nine years ago!
Yes! I'm glad it is retroactive, and it does cover many different types of comments ... just not the forum ones.
I'm thinking it might be a good thing in some ways. Those other types of comments have the option to hide the whole comment under a spoiler cover, and then the corresponding comment shows up in the new comments page on user profiles with a "spoiler" tag. Discussion forum posts have a different way to cover specific text for spoilers that maybe they can't easily translate in the same way.
I'm guessing there are probably other practical issues, like not being able to support all the extra functionality that forum comments have (formatted text, quotes, embedded images, etc.).
Plus the way discussion forums tend to work on MDL, they're treated as a bit more private compared to other spaces (like the main comment section of a drama or the feeds), so it's more acceptable to "go off" and really say how you feel / vent without being as careful about your words for the sake of being a polite community member. Maybe users wouldn't make that distinction in the same way if all of a user's forum comments were archived and easy to access (practically put on display) through their profile?
I take it all back!!!
I wish it wasn't so hard to search for old comments in these discussion threads! I've been trying to find the comments about the story of Boya and Ziqi and the meaning / origin of 知音 for ages and the number of pages that aren't indexed + the lack of a proper search function makes it all but impossible.

And yes. I too am disappointed with the comment history, as it isn't searchable, but it's better than what we had.

SnowcupArc:
Would this mark today as the 2nd anniversary? ❤️🩹❤️🩹
HeadInTheClouds:
Has it really been one year since Season 2 ended? How time flies. To commemorate one year since Xiang Liu's passing. Tencent released a new, nice and bloody picture. Happy anniversary to all my fellow XL lovers here.
Yes 22nd July. I am surprised there are so many XL clips being posted still.
SnowcupArc:
Thanks for confirming the commemoration date and sharing LYF's 3rd anniversary clips on the main board. So stunning and great to see the whole gang! Amazing anniversary gift!
I can't believe it's been another year. I'm trying to get back to my annotation thread, but I have definitely bitten off more than I thought. There is SO much. Of course, I may be reading alot more than I should into it. lol
For example, I realized that when XY first stumbled on beggar Jing at the river, she was trying to bag a bird that flew into the brush he was lying in. But on the rewatch, I realized there were TWO birds, and they looked like white herons / egrets. When she throws the rock, they fly off. But in the book (Koala's translation), it doesn't happen quite that way, but she's watching swans at the river. So, now I'm trying to find out the birds symbolize in Chinese folklore ... and thinking about finding the Chinese text to see if they were swans or herons or something else.
It's a sickness. LOL
Happy 3rd anniversary, everyone!
3 years since the drama first brought in a new wave of fans and introduced one of the most memorable characters ever to the world. 2 years since the curtains fell though the novel and its characters live on in our hearts. And almost 3 years since I first posted in this thread, asking if anyone had a comparison between the original and revised versions. How time has flown!

Wait! You started an annotation thread for LYF? Where? I am clearly out of date... haven't posted on this thread for so long though I still sneak peeks every now and again. Please share the link so that I can read too!

The novel refers to the birds simply as 水鸟 water birds that rose and dipped in flight. No species or quantity specified.
I have been working through the 2013 vs 2019 comparisons since last year... but had to take a breather due to real life demands. Interestingly enough, Xiang Liu's lines have mostly remained intact between the two versions... which to me, implies that Tong Hua's vision of him never wavered from the one she grieved for after seeing snow on a sunny day back in 2012:
从超市出来,风很大,阳光很灿烂。透过车窗,看到蓝天很蓝,白云很白,想起了九命 (偶故事中的人物)一袭白衣,九曲红尘,本该是何等逍遥的妖,却因责任困住了自己。总喜欢用雪去形容他,想着正伤感,突然下雪了,雪花打在车窗上。我惊愕!明明阳光还十分灿烂,老公说,太阳雪!很少见!
Coming out from the supermarket, the wind was strong and the sun was bright. Through the car window, I saw that the blue skies were really blue and the white clouds were really white. I thought of Nine Lives (a character in a story), all dressed in white, living nine lives in the mortal realm, a demon who should have been so unfettered and free but instead trapped himself with responsibility. I always love to use the snow to describe him. Just as I was feeling sad, it suddenly started snowing, and the snowflakes hit against the car window. I was shocked! The sun was clearly still shining brightly. My husband said, "Sunny and snowing! It's a rare occurrence!"

(Hm... looks like the thread no longer allows us to indent?)
It is amazing how I still find myself seeing echoes of Xiang Liu or Xiao Yao in different dramas. Has anyone watched 雀骨 Key to the Phoenix Heart, which has unexpectedly ranked as one of my favourites for many reasons. Xiao Wuyi reminds me a lot of Xiang Liu in terms of how he always put himself front and center in any battle, fiercely protecting everything and everyone he loves - his provision for Xie Jiayu, knowing that he goes to certain death. Even the lines that were used to describe him echoed Xiang Liu so much - giving his all for everyone else and leaving nothing for himself, wanting her to live well after his death. How I wish Xiao Yao was more like Xie Jiayu, unafraid to love, and determined to destroy any noble idiocy tendencies in the man she loved, joining him despite his best efforts to keep her safe. Then, I remember that unlike Xie Jiayu, Xiao Yao was never given any indication that he loved her, and was rebuffed at every turn. And my heart hurts anew for what could have been. But to be fair, if LYF had ended in any other way, it would not have seared our hearts so much, even after so many years.

Hi liddi! So good to see you again. I definitely understand about real life interfering. :) Hope you and your family have been well.
I only got one episode last year. lol It's a work in progress, but you can see the scope of what I'd like to do. Sort of organize and reference stuff we've talked about, plus really really really paying attention the drama and discovering things.
Folks are welcome to participate with their insights and I'll try to link their posts up to whatever section I've tried to organize them into.

Wow! Thank you for sharing your detailed analysis of Ep1, and the inclusion of points that have been discussed in the past. It is great to see all the insights and analysis distilled and compiled into a single thread. You have taken on a mammoth task indeed, but it is definitely a blessing to all of us who love the novel, the characters and the drama. It's like rewatching the drama all over again, but through your eyes.
Incidentally, it appears Xiang Liu's thread (Xiang Liu's Luxury Lounge) in LYF S2 page no longer exists? As such, the novel to LYF to A Lifetime Love mapping is also gone. Come to think of it, is it my imagination or we can only see 6 discussion threads for each drama page? Does it mean the remaining discussion threads have been deleted? Argh... all the ramblings! In any case, here's a copy of the mapping if what was previously posted is gone for good:
