Asami Mitsuhiko Series 32

A man suddenly lost his life on a street in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Beside his body lay a sacred bell (isuzu) from Tenkawa Shrine in Yoshino, Nara, which had apparently fallen to the ground. One morning, a familiar visitor comes to the Asami household. The guest is Takasaki Yoshinori, a man who had doted on Asami Mitsuhiko when he was a child. Takasaki is an elder of the Mizukami school, a traditional Noh lineage, and during his lifetime, Mitsuhiko’s late father had studied utai (Noh chanting) under him. Takasaki brings Mitsuhiko a marriage proposal. The prospective bride is Mizukami Hidemi, the daughter of the head family of the Mizukami school and a Noh performer blessed with extraordinary natural talent. Takasaki also invites Mitsuhiko to an upcoming memorial Noh performance to be held by the Mizukami family, but Mitsuhiko declines, citing work-related commitments.
