Reporter Asami Mitsuhiko visits Nara to research the Manyoshu for the magazine Tabi to Rekishi. There, veteran archaeologist Koike Takuro, who devoted his life to proving the Hashihaka–Himiko theory and the Kinai Yamatai-koku theory, is found dead after leaving Mitsuhiko with cryptic words about unforgivable sins.
