Skyrider: a solid series with its fair share of flaws
The sixth installment in the Showa Era of Kamen Rider isn't a bad series, let me say that upfront. It is a perfectly serviceable Tokusatsu series with a lot of fun and even some great episodes. Tsukaba is a nice protagonist who feels distinct from the other Riders in terms of personality. The gimmick of Skyrider is that he's the Rider who's able to fly...until halfway into the series where he stops flying because the creator didn't like how the special effect for it looked. You might not think that's such a big deal but it makes Skyrider seem like a very generic and bare bones Rider in my eyes, making a lot of the series just feel like Ichigo 2.0 (yes, i know it was originally planned as a reboot until they changed their minds 20 episodes in). Replacing Tsukabas mentor figure so early on with a Tachibana clone was also a decision i did not like very much. The entire concept of the flying club was thrown away so casually it feels almost comical, opting instead with a much safer choice of just having another shop as the Riders hub. That's not to say all is bad. As i said most episodes are very fun and enjoyable with even some great ones mixed in there. The addition of the other Riders was very nice and made the series just feel a lot more connected. But i would be lying if i said i wasn't slouching my way through the series by the end.
Least favorite Rider series so far, but not bad. Just kinda bland
5.5/10

solid enough
not really a ground breaking Kamen Rider that you would expect after four years off the air so it is easy to understand why the second run of rider didn't last long. But I had fun with it it didn't do anything that the first series didn't and had no ongoing story beyond beat Neo shocker but it had it own charm with how it did thing. That is pretty much it watch any Showa rider you will know what you get from this. also those two girls were totally dating as much as two girl could in 1970s japan. Was this review helpful to you?
