An Ice Hockey Romance That Hits All the Right Notes
Review:"My Unicorn Girl" came galloping into my watchlist as a light-hearted, fun romance with just the right amount of sports and drama. The premise is pretty unique—Sang Tian (played by the energetic Darren Chen) enters the male-dominated world of ice hockey by disguising herself as a man. What made this drama stand out for me was how it managed to balance humor, romance, and personal growth with an inspiring story of a girl defying expectations.
Sang Tian’s character is awesome—she’s not the typical shy, demure female lead. She’s got dreams, she’s determined, and she doesn’t let anything stop her, even when the odds are stacked against her. Every time she faced a challenge, I was like, “You go, girl!” Her journey of self-discovery and fighting for her place on the ice felt empowering, and her chemistry with the male lead, Wen Bing (played by the swoon-worthy Chen Xingxu), was so sweet. The romance was slow-burn and perfectly executed, especially because both characters supported each other’s growth instead of just existing as a plot device for each other.
What I absolutely loved about this drama was how it showcased team spirit and the bonds that form through shared experiences. The ice hockey team had a great sense of camaraderie, and I loved how they supported Sang Tian even though she wasn’t “one of them” in the beginning. The interactions between the teammates, particularly the back-and-forth with the rest of the team, had me chuckling. The friendships in the show were so heartwarming, and it made the romance feel even more grounded.
The only thing I wish for was a bit more depth for some of the side characters. While the main couple was fantastic, the supporting characters felt a bit underdeveloped. I would have loved to see more of the teammates’ stories or a bit more conflict around Sang Tian’s disguise—swoosh, there could have been so much more drama there!
Final Thoughts:
"My Unicorn Girl" is a sweet and empowering series for anyone looking for a blend of sports, romance, and personal growth. It’s the kind of drama that’ll make you smile, punch the air in victory with the characters, and have you rooting for Sang Tian every step of the way. Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for a light, feel-good story with a lot of heart.

watching it again!
This drama is so sweet and fluffy, refreshing and light-hearted, that i just cannot stop revisiting it! It's not realistic in the traditional sense - but who in his/her right mind expects realism in the world of drama?I mean, how can it possibly happen for a petite girl to become the captain of an all-male ice hockey team? Really! Still the actors are so handsome and funny, the story so engaging, that it doesnt matter if its crazy or not. Even the side stories are nice - if you can spare time for them, because we have, beside the 1st couple, the 2nd couple, the 3rd couple, even the 4th couple (that is, the FL's brother, the FL's friend, the ML's cousin etc). I admit i skipped a lot through these.
The ML and FL are both very good-looking and their story is sweet (did i repeat the word sweet?) with a lot of love games. So much fun to watch!

Short, sweet and cute
Initially this series attracted my attention was cause of "unicorn" (I totally love unicorns =D) and the 2nd was that Darren Chen was in it (I first watched his series was Meteor Garden and really liked his acting). Overall, after watching the drama, my conclusion would be that it is a very cute and adorable series with very little "drama" or those "stressy" moments. If you are looking for something really light, no excessive drama / evil plots, this would be something you can watch -for a first watch. If it is worth re-watching, you would have to decide on your own upon completion. Both the male and female lead are quite adorable together, be it when they are pranking each other or the short adorable "romantic" moments. True, a twist of fate and both of them actually met and ended up with each other, but the process till the very end is quite funny to watch. It is fun to watch how the Male Lead actually cares for the Female Lead but tries to make it as subtle as possible without exposing that she is actually female instead of a male. The tenderness in him is so adorable. I love how the Female Lead tries promoting team work and helps others despite the outcome or the punishment. Despite what many commentators wrote, I find that she is quite good with this character and shouldn't be shot down over minor facts - i.e not good in ice skating / ice hockey.
No one is born ever knowing everything - including actors. Many actors and actresses do have to go through various trainings and teachings just to be able to film the movie or series that they starring in. People shouldn't be so quick to judge, comment or even condemn another just cause they aren't superb in a particular action / sport of the series they are watching!
The music is alright. Some of the songs paired to this series is quite nice to listen to. Would definitely look up the songs and check it out.

One of the most mischievous love feeling ever!!!
At the beginning, I'm not have any expectation on this drama. I thought that it might be another story to cure my boredom. But it appears that only a few episodes have passed, I can't stop watching it, I feel in love with Wen Bing's personality so much. Even the story are all utterly predictable but I still enjoy it anyway. All praise goes to the lead characters.Darren Chen is the best who express Wen Bing personality. His face expression is another level, in 1 second but could say so many word. I really respect his acting on this. Wen Bing already become on of my best male role ever! He has everything that gentlemen should have.
The relationship between all character also very cute, the ice hockey team friendship is very pure and cute. It make me think that how lucky that they have each other as friend. All of them not have much non-sense behavior. They support each other as much as possible.
Highly Recommended!!!

My Unicorn Girl is just another cross-dressing drama, bye bye hello Bromance, one set at the ice-rink of a university, hiya Skate into Love, except that:
Yeah, the concept of a girl cross-dressing as a boy has been repeatedly revamped in the contemporary online to online society alluding to an idealized fictionalized version of offline to offline life that is as farfetched as it is tangible and authentic, at least at some point. Imaginaries can be pink and cute inside in a white and blue ice-hockey outfit to fulfil a dream, unbeknownst the later awareness that reality can and might surpass any giggling dumdeedum da-dumdeedum butterfly fantasies.
Pi Ya Nuo and Du Zi Feng – by no way connected to Si Feng in Love & Redemption – fall for one another. Sang Tian and Wen Bing do the same. Tang Xue and Li Yu Bing, it was complicated. Ironically it shouldn’t be considering human evolution. Bromance dates from 2015, Skate into Love, 2020 and My Unicorn Girl also 2020 but is the dìdi of the three. Growth ought to be a progression, not a regression, that’s within the sphere of mathematical science.
Sang Tian is a Pi Ya Nuo younger version. A mascarade of a girl cosplaying into a boy who falls head over trainers in love with an actual one, Wen Bing. Handsome, smart, perfect men are an ubiquity to utopianism, a mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the egotistical of them all as if that mattered at all in an absurd monarchically follower created binarism to depreciate differences whilst exhibiting them. Wen Bing, is as graceful as an unpolished brick surface with inner sophistication and taste with his general prosopagnosia and specific Sang Tian face recognition. This is beautifully sweet as love, love is its own recognition even when in hiding.
Parallels that are like candy crush in their break the mould similarities when in the end it all comes down to execution, technique, persistence and the ability to keep fighting the odds to succeed, with blantant disregard for tv ratings in a very fortunate manner; a test of time in a demure summon for gender equality and treatment... risking the ire of si jie mentors.
My Unicorn Girl doesn’t have the flair of media buzz protruding from every social media cell on face of the dramaland's earth like Skate into Love did, neither a centimetre of the buzz, which says a lot both in a yin and yang emphatic vintage dualism. Skate into Love at one end of the spectrum, Bromance and My Unicorn Girl at the other end, the underdogs.
How trilling! No, there’s nothing remotely trilling or new about Unicorn Girl, unless it actually contained a unicorn rather than being the name of the team and a symbol of love and unity. Everything else exists already including good actors, rephrasing good performers, not necessarily young idols who play poker faces at acting.
Darren Chen expanded his entertainment drama presences that Meteor Garden’s popularity trampolined him into. He might have portrayed a stoic unflappable character whom Wen Bing mirrors to the bone in a profusion of ways including, income, social status and mannerisms that they might as well be carbon copies of one another in different societal settings. Even the zigzagged confusion between the appalling way of visually expressing his feelings and the extreme effort to make them stand out were a hit. What was amiss in My Unicorn Girl was the nonexistent second male lead attitude in a male lead role. People have flaws. Characters have flaws. Everyone has flaws.
Sebrina Chen on the other hand despite not having Darren’s female equivalent status quo in the industry nor the imperial visibility to stand out yet brought vibes of Megan Lai's acting including in her onscreen chemistry with Baron Chen, here, rather, Sebrina with Darren, which works marvelously like two witty peas in a lotus pod. It’s so interesting and jovial to watch their banter episode in, episode out that at the end of the series, the only regret is that is over. Bromance transmutted into true love. The end.
Overall rating: 10 out of 10.

it was good
the show was really cute . HELL all the characters in the show was really cute ,I love them all . Hats off to the actors, actress, writers, producers and other staff members for creating this cute show. I was literally screening when i saw the FL she was totally cute. THis show was totally cite where i just wish it was BL instead of straight romance.well anyways i like the red notebook drawing there are really cute. i am just gonna repeat the word "cute" because the whole show was cute for me. i liked all the character except for 1 Meng Na [Figure skater] (Miranda Ma) i don't hate the person i hate the character she was given, hell i hate characters that doesn't take a hint that a person isn't into them but they continues to come back this was the only character that i seriously dislike. I would rather see Miranda Ma act as a different character because her character in this show was kinda a waste to her talent. Was this review helpful to you?
The drama to watch after A love so beautiful
Okaay so this is my first review and the only reason I’m doing it is because I wanna spread the happiness this drama game every time I watched it. Yes the plot is a bit typical but the chemistry between the leads, their wittiness makes up for it and more . I’m gonna be honest here, Chinese dramas aren’t my cup of tea but after I’ve stumbled across *A love so beautiful*I could never recover. That drama was so good -A MUST WATCH- that I couldn’t find anything with the same amount of heart fluttering moments and funny happenings until I decided to give *My unicorn girl*a try and let me tell you I so loved it and from episode 1 and that doesn’t happen with me a lot ... The cliffhangers are so good you’re just gonna be constantly updating the page for new episodes. The story does not disappoint because it gives each character it’s time to chine, how each friendship came to life and how they grow stronger with each bump on the road to their dreams. Finally all I can is it’s super funny, very romantic, heartwarming, the guys know exactly what to say especially the lead around the end of the drama *Some Iconic lines that guys should remember for life*, actually whoever wrote the dialogues of the entire cast is a genius that deserves appreciation ... guys my first ever drama review but it’s so worth it.Was this review helpful to you?
You’ll SCREAM
I’m still watching this drama and I can’t wait to write the review lolThe drama is super light & cliche (in a good way). I wonder why everyone was talking about cliche in the review section. But now I understand! There are tons cliche moments BUT i LOVED it!! Not cringy at all! Perhaps I’m biased with the ML. I never know he is a good actor lol
The music was good also, the typical happy music in romcom drama. And they have lots of Big name support roles, I really appreciate that.
More episodes to go~ I’ll update you guys whenever I finish it.
