Wow this started as if it's a flash back to part 1 about there daughters and what has happened to them when they grew up. Remember it's only 6 episodes and full of so many twist and turns.. It about Princess zhauhua and princess siwan the adopted daughter and how they always fight to get and keep what they want. Now Zhauhau has been engaged to la Wang xouer for 5years, but he does not like her and so Siwan makes her move on him, but zhauhua gets jeousle. Then with the help of fu Kang an he teachers her how to be good and attract lawang xouer, but at the same time he's helping Siwan to get Zhauhau worked up and go a little crazy so wangxouer will stay away. Fu Kang instead start to fall in love with zhauhau and his plan to destroy her an her mother empree Ling for killing his mom. The fighting goes on, but fukang admits his love for her, but not sure if it's real they go back to Yanxi palace and she tells her mom she in love. As he picks her up she slaps him and walks away in a daze as he is appolized and explained he wanted her to feel is pain caused by her mom. That night still in a daze she walk down a road and here's voices and she screams now the next day comes and wonders off wangzouer show up at fukang place and demams to know where the princess is he deny knowing. They start seeing her move really fast as they separate and hear siwon scream so fukang looks for zhauzha and duoer looks for siwon when he finds her and he starts to pass out and the in sent puts him to sleep. We next find fukang going into a room and zhauzha stabs him and starts to argue with herself then ties him up and looks for siwan who is tied to a chair and blindfolded and questions her about her kidnapping and cuts her wrist and tells her she will bleed out in a few day's and to listen as it drops drops dropes. She then goes back to fukang and again tries to stab him and he keep calling out zhauzha and she drops the knife and he tells her he's sorry and that she's not crazy then she picks up the knife again and he stabs himself as he talks about her to live and get rid of what's inside. Next we see the king/queen and siwan is telling them that zhauzha is trying to kill her and that she crazy and needs a doctor as she bleeding out, they try to explain it's only a scratch and so it appears she went crazy and fukang was healing and Wang doer also. Since zhauzha was OK the king stated that wedding is in and so we are at zhauzha room as fukang goes in and tryed to talk her out of it she says if only you told me you loved me then it's to late now.. She and Wang doer say goodbye to the family and upon gher etting into the sedan they both ask each other a question?????? and they leave. Youust watch for all the missing piece it's worth it. I really enjoyed most of this season as a little appetizer. Some familiar faces, tie up some familiar plot lines, get in some good palace intrigue and romance without drawing this out for dozens of dozens of episodes.

Then the last episode and a half happens and it goes really weird. The cap the season with an explanation, but it made this super short season a little draggy since it was off topic and weird.

So aside from that strange tangent, it is a tight and focused extension of the original series with a bigger budget if the costumes are any indication. You do need to know the original series to enjoy this one since most of the plot is based on storylines from that. If you don’t remember every detail, they give enough detail to jog your memory.

Overall, enjoyable as just a little taste of a series, but that weird turn was just too weird.

What can I say? What a twist! I’m always a sucker for a good romance and a good historical fiction. I came into this thinking I could easily binge it, since there’s only 6 episodes, but I soon found myself getting consumed. I haven’t watched the original series since I don’t have 70 hours of free time to kill, but maybe I will.

This series is good if you have seen the original. This one is about their daughter. The first couple of episodes seem a bit unoriginal and boring, but I urge you to stick with it because there is a intense last few episodes. The acting is the same in that way, kinda blah at first but then WOW. The twist at the end is expected by the viewer if you can catch it, but still crazy! Check it out if you have time!!

1st of all I LOVED Yanxi Palace like loved loved it. So when I saw this was happening I was excited but also scared. All I can say is I never missed a 50 episode series as much as I do now. With only 6 episodes they do a good job of staying true the Yanxi palace universe as I call it but it was rushed and I felt could have been developed way better with more episodes and time. Though I'm not knocking it for the amount they had they still made it work.

It was very nice to see Wu Jinyan back as Wei Yinglou which was actually prob why I decided to watch this to begin with who can't get enough of Wei Yinglou's antics, even though she was only support I very much enjoyed seeing her and a few of the old cast again felt very nostalgic.

If you watched Yanxi palace this is a nice short spin off to enjoy you won't be disappointed .

Somewhat Disappointing

Different from the original. Not what I was expecting. The original was entertaining, well acted, good story and even had humor in it. I laughed!

Well, it the original was a hard act to follow. In this the lead princess Zhaohua was unlikeable. The story wasn't clear either. It did become clear when it took the weird turn in the house of the Step Empress. I was able to put everything together, then. Some didn't like it, but I did because it explained much. The actors took too long to tell the story.

I did enjoy seeing the leads from the original series, though.

After watching Story of Yanxi Palace many many times and all the fuss about a sequel, I have to admit I was as disappointed as many seeing the number of episodes.

If the decors, the costumes, the musics and the aesthetics of Princess Adventures are as good as its parent story, the plot is unfortunately overall rushed and wrongly paced. We jump from point A to B without so much in between and make the lot not as interesting as it could have been.

But as disappointed as I was, I was very happy to see the cast and characters once again and see Wei Yingluo as a mother. It also let me know of Rain Wang, which might be the most beautiful Chinese actress I have seen in a while, and jump immediately in Colorful Bones.

A nice wrap up

It's cool to see the same characters in a continuing branch of the original story. For something so short, it did a great job at capturing the spirit of the original drama. I liked seeing some of the loose ends tied up from the first series and seeing some of what happens to characters that were mentioned briefly before.

I started watching Yanxi Palace mostly because I saw that Charmaine Sheh was starting to make the move over to mainland China productions. I grew up on TVB and HK dramas, so of course I'm her fan!

Just like the parent story, I'm not familiar with MANY of the actors in this drama either. But it was a cute/CRAZY follow up to the parent story. I actually thought Rain Wang looked so SIMILAR to Qin Lan (Fuca Rongyin)!

This drama was a huge twist though, from Zhao Hua having some sort of "mental" issues, and then Fu Kang'an being led astray buy his uncle. The story was just so intense and sort of closed some of the loose threads we had from the parent story.

The only qualm I had was this drama was too short! I liked the shenanigans and I felt it was a bit rushed.

A Shadow of Its Former Glory: When the Spin-Off Fails to Deliver

Yanxi Palace: Princess Adventures tells the story of a resolute Qing dynasty princess who faces palace conspiracies and a family vendetta while navigating the perils of love. Like its predecessor, the drama revolves around revenge, harem intrigues, and romance.

Despite featuring the original cast, OSTs, and high production values, Yanxi Palace: Princess Adventures fails to live up to the original series, mainly due to weak writing, uneven acting, and flawed execution. The story begins with Princess Zhao Hua attempting to win over the aloof Prince Lhawang Dorji, aided by Fuheng's son, Fu Kang An, who harbors his own personal vendetta. To be fair, the spin-off consists of only six episodes, but I still wish the writing and pacing had been stronger to make the most of the limited runtime.

The story feels immature, and the pacing is rushed, jumping abruptly from hate and indifference to love and sympathy. Character development often feels jumbled and questionable, while the over-the-top camera shots and dramatic effects, intended to create intensity, instead made me chuckle.

While the original cast delivers solid performances, some of the younger actors were less convincing. Rain Wang and Xu Xiao Nuo, playing Princess Zhao Hua and Princess Si Wan, did well portraying their characters, and Wang Yi Zhe was competent as Fu Kang An. Unfortunately, poor writing sometimes made Fu Kang An’s character remind me of Eunuch Yuan, which was unintentionally cringeworthy. Worst of all was Wang Yu Wei as Prince Lhawang Dorji—his expressions were stiff and unnatural, with certain scenes, like his “surprised” reactions, unintentionally funny.

If you loved Story of Yanxi Palace, it’s best to stop there. If you decide to watch this spin-off, do so at your own discretion. I recommend watching it at a faster speed while having a meal and not overthinking the plot.

Cute!

Giving this show a cute 7 stars because Ying Luo made me cry at the end. She didn't want to let go of her daughter😭😭 Anyway, this was not as sharp as the parent story, and the plot and characters felt quite juvenile - no surprise since the characters are younger -, but this was nonetheless nice. I think I enjoyed this even more because I loved SOYP so much, it's literally my Roman Empire; saying goodbye to Ying Luo and co for a second time is just cruel. Her scenes ate as always, she literally mothered. I loved that we got to see her playful and scheming side, and how she let Zhao Hua do her own things after gently getting her on the right track. The story itself is honestly kind of crazy (ha!), but it's a cute little 6-episode show that won't hurt you. It's nothing extraordinary, but it delivers nice sets, costumes, decent acting, nice music and a dash of madness. Overall, cute show with some of my favorite characters💞.

Spoilers

A spin-off from Yanxi telling the story of her daughter Zhao Hua and Fu Heng son, Fuk Anggan coming to seek revenge.

The only problem, there is only 6 episode.
The produces could have spin a longer story, rather a simply revenge plot

But overall it was memorable, heartfelt, ( watching the children in Yanxi grow up)

Worth to pick it up (However, historically most of Ling fei daughter's died young, so it did not really matter who she ends up with... cause she will be dead anyway)

Watch the Original Yanxi Palace First!

I see most of the reviews are from 4 years ago when this originally aired on Netflix. It's an easy binge watch, maybe half a day due to the length of the episodes and there are only 6. It popped up on my feed and the story quickly sucked me in.

The costumes and acting are beautifully done. Not having seen the original Yangxi Palace drama first, I did not have the nostalgia most viewers who have seen it seem to exhibit for the music and original series characters.

As a stand alone series it seemed very rushed, with not enough screen time between the ML and FL, simplistic plot and a few decent plot twist reveals at the end.

In the last episode, I had trouble believing Zhaohua was marrying Lhawang Dorji and kept wanting something to change. They were hardly together on screen. Nothing really dramatic ever happens between them, how can they end up together? The relationship developed between Zhaohua and Fuk'anggan, while fraught with lies seemed to have more depth and chemistry.
