Zhang Qiling fanfiction brought to you by...BEER! (and bugs)
So this was alright?I'm gonna say upfront - my expectations were zero. After "Explore With The Note" (which was unbelievably awful), I was pretty much done with the series. And this show dragged so long to release that I expected a mangled carcass cut up by the censors.
That said, it is quite clear that the censors did have issues that needed to be worked around - the episodes have quite varying lengths and you can often notice entire scenes where the dialogue clearly doesn't match what the actors were actually saying.
This was probably inevitable what with the whole Ultimate being a thing, the Bronze Door and that kind of stuff.
But it wasn't as bad as I feared at the beginning - after a weird and slow start the show kicked off pretty well.
It was also quite difficult, I can imagine, to do all the flashbacks they did. And to reveal the story bit by bit so it still made sense. You can tell it was difficult, because there are several scenes purely for exposition and they do feel quite clunky. But overall it works ok.
It took me a while to get used to this Wuxie, he actually looks and acts quite old while not being as cool as the ones in Reunion or Tomb of the Sea. But he does well with the philosophical and emotional stuff.
Fatty is consistently good, this actor is the ultimate one in my opinion. (though his comedic relief felt a bit much at times)
Zhang Qiling is...well, they always choose the same type of actors, you don't get much acting from these guys.
Overall this is actually a pretty solid return to form as a tomb raiding drama - you get the foreigners who don't mean well who the protagonists have to race against, or temporarily team up with. But this time that dastardly foreigner gets a redemption arc! Neat.
The various story subarcs and locations are fairly interesting, the sets and props look decent and there's even some location shooting - you can tell they actually went to the mountains and shot in the cold.
And it all eventually stumbles (as the show itself accurately calls it) to a satisfying ending.
I still prefer Reunion by a lot, but this was good - surprisingly so.

Another Fun Adventure by the Duo/Trio
I have to admit that I did not have high expectations going into this show. I did not think that I would connect with nor enjoy the story and the relationships in this drama, so color me surprised. This was pretty well-done despite the fact that multiple episodes were cut off by the censor board.PROS
-The writing of the characters: It mostly matched the actual characters in the novel unlike some other sequels (cough cough Explore with the Note cough cough). I have to admit that it was definitely weird (but, not bad) to see Xiao Ge talk so much. I enjoyed how a lot of characters were not written as neither completely good or completely bad. It made the characters more humane and understandable. My fav was defo Pangzi though. His character has been so consistent and pangzhi-like. It also helps that the actor was also in Reunion, but the character feels and acts so familiar, which I can appreciate.
-Acting : The acting is this drama is pretty amazing. I didn't see any actors who removed my attention from the actual story, so that in itself tells you how good the actors were.
-Foreigners are not only bad! : As much as I enjoy the dmbj series, we have to admit, there's always the "foreigners are evil and selfish" propaganda in every single sequel. Now, I initially did not mind this, since every country does this, but it obviously gets tiring when you have to see it in every single sequel. That is where this drama differs. I love the fact the foreign characters here have a "redemption" arc and shows us there are good foreign people too. Obviously, there are also evil ones in this drama, but the way their characters are written makes them understandable. I can understand why they're feeling/acting the way they are, unlike some of the other sequels.
-Tight plot: starting is a bit slow, but once you get into the actual story, it gets intense and exciting (which made me binge this drama in about a week).
CONS
-Now, the actor who plays Wu Xie (Edward Zhang) is a brilliant actor. We cannot deny that, but we have to consider the fact that this show takes place only 5 years after Ultimate Note. So, I was expecting an actor who still had that youthfulness. The production did their very best to make Zhang look younger and it did work to some extent, but I have to admit that it was jarring to watch after watching Reunion (where the actor playing Wu Xie is younger/more youthful than Edward Zhang). It also doesn't help that they made the Wu Xie in this drama act a but older than the character's age.
-Lack of human needs during the adventure: I do know that we don't need see scenes of the characters eating, resting, or washing their faces, but to me personally, tiny snippets of those add a sense of realness and time to dramas. Throughout the adventure, we barely see them eat or sleep, which removes the element of realness. They seem like robots.
-Disjointed continuation in certain areas due to episode cut.
Overall, this still was a very enjoyable adaptation of the dmbj series. I personally would say it's on par with Ultimate Note and Reunion, so I recommend giving this show a try even if you have some reservations. Happy Watching!

PingXie Romance Spanning over a Decade!
Wu Xie- I will keep him company from now, solve his problems and lead an ordinary life with him. This is one of those love stories, that never gets old. I have watched it umpteenth times and still Iām always absorbed in their world like it is my first time. The intriguing sequel to āUltimate Noteā where Wu Xie and Zhang Qiling face separation, āAdventure behind the Bronze Doorā is a resonating saga of love nevertheless. The only glitch being that our loving couple, PingXie donāt have much scenes together. The show solely focuses on retracing Zhang Qilingās life and memories; Wu Xie spends the entire time trying to figure out Qilingās origins and solve problems that might affect their future. It might sound astoundingly boring, because the franchise banks on the chemistry between the actors playing the protagonists (which is like a revolving door with each installment featuring a different set of actors). āAdventure behind the Bronze Doorā didnāt have too many scenes between the lead couple; it was a solemn journey with Wu Xie waiting for Zhang Qiling to return from the Bronze Door. He took it upon himself to figure out Qilingās origins and clear the issues that have been plaguing the Zhang family. The show is a story of two lovers separated by age and time, reuniting and existing peacefully. If you are looking for PingXie romance, you will be disappointed. But if you want to learn more about our superhero, Zhang Qiling; then āAdventure behind the Bronze Doorā has all the answers!

Touching moment Zhang Qiling meet his mother
Story is good, Zhang Qiling role played by handsome actor, just i felt upset why this version less chemistry between Zhang Qiling x Wu Xie, i hope they have more chemistry just like PingXie from Ultimate Note. Sad moment when Zhang Jiuri died, if he still alive, i just thought he would be rival for Wu Xie. But overall this Tibetan Sea Flower drama is much better than drama Reunion: Sound of Providence (i hate annoying Bai Haotian from this drama). Was this review helpful to you?

They still got the chemistry!
It's worth the watch! I read previous reviews regarding people's opinions about Edward Zhang playing Wu Xie and wasn't expecting to love this title as much as the others but it exceeded my expectations!Edward Zhang did a great job encompassing Wu Xie as both still naive but also getting older and having to rely on himself more.
My favorite part of this entire series is the chemistry between Wu Xie and Pangzi! It was delightful and I burst out laughing so many times. It's absolutely worth to give it a chance and learning back story on our darling Xiaoge was the cherry on top.

A highlight and important part in the franchise
Honestly, I didnāt except much of this new show. But really just because of the mess, and weird way the parts were released over the years. The overall plot is huge and often hard to follow anyways. Because letās be real the storylines are often strange and you couldnāt really much make out of it, because you only saw certain parts. And donāt get me started on the ever changing Castā¦.
But here comes Adventure behind the bronze doorā¦.and finally gives us a frame for all the small pieces we watched over the years.
And of course esp. the background story to Zhang Qiling and also huge parts of the secrets around the Zhang Family, but also it grabs hold onto all the older adventures and connects it back to the present.
Which helps you a lot to grasp all the things that happened and finally see a picture in it.
And they did it nicely with flashbacks, that are very well made and narrated.
The cast was also great. Yes, the actor for WuXie seemed a bit āolderā than needed, but he grasped the concept of his part perfectly and slayed the part.
He also handled it very well to show, how his character changed and will change over the years, because of all the hardships and that he simply had to handle the stuff without Xiao-ge coming to his rescue!
Also I was absolutely enlighten to see Chen Minghao again as Wang Pangzi ā¤ļøHe portrays the part with such easiness and for me he is perfect.
But also the rest was perfect and the acting was flawless.
Same goes for locations, settings and cinematography. Thereās nothing to criticize in any way.
They also put focus on small things, like WuXies scar on his neck^^ He only has it in the last episodeā¦.
Which brings me to the last episode. Safe the best for last, huhā¦..
Can we have a season just with stuff like that??? pretty please š„ŗ
It was like Fanfiction come real. It was one of the nostalgic, calm, every day life fanfics. With them a bit calmer, but happy to be together and enjoying their time. Lounging around and just letting life roll by.
And it was so beautiful to see Xiao-ge just being himself, all loose and relaxed āŗļø The actor was also so well casted. He has those nice eyes, that always looks so mysteriousā¦..but he had no problem to portray WuXieā¦portaying himself š

The ML did an awesome job in 3 Body Problem as a professor but here, it's all wasted. Only the oldest version of the Candle In The Tomb series was worth watching. The rest, esp those starring idol faces, are full of poor acting, plot holes, illogical sequences and a few lads trying to look cool. The series went from bad to worst as years pass. Nothing short of trashy.
They're not taking this seriously at all. Maybe most viewers are nymphoic and don't care about sensible quality storylines. How else can I reason the many trashy productions involving idol faces??? Watching this reduces my intellect. Makes one angry and irritated for no good reason.

Story
Speedy review.. It was average.. The one thing that put me off is I thought Wuxie although a good actor he looked old to play ML. Most females like to see certain goods looks and and an enthusiasm in the ML but this one didn't fit the bill. I dropped it after 5 episodes. I just couldn't get into the story. I have watched most of the tomb series so was really looking forward to this latest adventure but for me it failed..Was this review helpful to you?
