Prepare your tissues..........
This review covers both parts of The Blue Whisper. The show, in many sites are shown as 1 with a total of 42 episodes but it's separated into 2 parts, first part is 22 episodes and Part 2 is 20 episodes. The entire series is a recommendation, if you love fairies, immortals, mythical beasts etc. The storyline is nice and amazing, alot of teary parts - hence the reminder to prepare your tissues. Throughout the whole series, both Part 1 and 2, there are alot of emotional moments that somehow feels like it could just rip you apart. There are also many funny moments to be found but alot of sad and betrayal moments.
The casts did a splendid job on this series, both the Male and Female Lead are superb. They really did a great job portraying their characters, especially the merman. The innocence along with all the other mix emotions from happiness, sadness, betrayal etc has been portrayed remarkably by Ren Jia Lun (Male lead). Dilraba also did a remarkable job - at times, you don´t even know if she really meant what she said or was it just a plot to get things done.
The soundtrack for both parts are quite nice. Although the beginning song for Part 2, in my opinion, was just too shrilly. I love the song that Ren Jia Lun sang - The merman song - but unfortunately couldn't really find that song with him singing it instead of the original singer.
I would recommend to watch, if you like the synopsis after reading it. Rewatching wise, well, that would really depend on individual opinions. But I have watched it more than twice already. xD

Simply amazing writing and acting. You will feel as if your watching real life!!
Between episodes 1 -12You will cry so much, your heart will break so much, but it will all be worth it.
Because there are 30 more episodes to go, and that will give you hope. It's either S### going to hit the fan or justice will be served either way it's worth the wait.
And the music OMG I don't even speed up to the other episodes lol 😂 I let the music play each episodes 😅 especially the music at the beginning.
So far 10star for me, any drama that can get me to put my phone down while watching is a 10 as I only speak English so I have to read the subtitles to understand therefore if I am on my phone means the drama is boring.
I literally had to pause the drama to give you a report, lol 😆
I love it.

High expectations but eh what happened
Okay so the director made some great dramas. I think he was trying to go that direction with this as well however I feel that the screen writer just wasn’t right. The idea was there along with amazing cgi and great actors etc. But the content didn’t really match.I can see why others loved it but I sorta felt this was extremely slow and a bit repetitive. I feel that they could have done this entire series within the first half but there’s so many useless scenes and was just so slow. I took me awhile to finish this cause I just kept losing interest.
With ashes of love there were a lot of unnecessary episodes etc but it was written well and the side stories (most of them) and couples kept the drama going. This one well it just jumps around and then sorta tells one side then not really. Then there’s so much history going on between all the characters. I felt that they should of did a prologue instead of part 1 and 2 then finish it off with a combined part 2. This way it would have reduced the confusion with diff characters. The small flashbacks really didn’t help either.
The drama is a bit contradicting. I mean ML says all this stuff then does it the opposite. I don’t think the screen writer put enough thought into the process.
I don’t know if I recommend this but I feel like it would attract a younger audience not someone my age (mid to late 30s).
I did feel they did a good job with the jokes and puns. But you would need to know Chinese to get it.

It pulls you in, but doesn't always keep you there
This is my review of part 1 and 2 in its entirety, not the individual parts. While I enjoyed the beginning and the show kept me hooked til the end, I do think it missed on a few points.
First, the things I liked: I loved that Yun He was smart and powerful. Many of these shows make the female lead a person that gets herself into trouble but needs help getting out of it, normally by the male lead. Her intelligence, wisdom, and strength made her a fascinating and interesting character.
I also really liked Chang Yi. I felt that his character was very realistically portrayed and he, too, was a powerful, intelligent being. It's rare to find a show that is willing to make the male lead naive and sweet, and it was nice to watch.
Many reviews state the lack of chemistry between the main leads, but I would disagree. I actually felt it to be pretty solid. Not mind-blowing, but good.
As for Hao Qing, it was interesting to see him basically similar to his father (minus the manipulation) towards the end. He was also in a wheelchair, and his attendant was also in love with him. Not sure if I liked his somewhat bittersweet ending, but it wasn't too bad.
The world-building was well done, and while the CGI wasn't always great, I've seen worse!
Our main leads' ending was left open ended, but I felt satisfied.
Now onto the things I didn't like as much.
I honestly disliked how this show treated Shunde. I'm not saying what Shunde was good, in fact I very much hated her, but compared to the other bad guys she felt more two-dimensional. While the other big bad guys got redemption arcs (Lin Cang Lan not being truly evil, he just so happened to be forced into the situation; Ning Qing ultimately sacrificing himself to atone for his sins), she did not. And yes, while we did get some other powerful, good women in this show, the fact that the only evil woman was treated differently than the two other (significant) male antagonists was a bit questionable.
I also really disliked Luo Luo. A lot. I am not a fan of the ditzy, silly best friend who means well but because she can't read the room ends up causing the main leads more trouble. Shows always want to portray this type of character as cute but I just find it immensely annoying. Not to mention the really frustrating "pretty-fication". At the start, she was supposed to be not very attractive (she has freckles and slightly darker skin; apparently this is considered unattractive) but then she finds love and magically loses her freckles and gets lighter skin. Not only am I so tired of the casual racism this trope implies, but also the message that you can't be average-looking to find love.
Overall, a fun watch, but I did occasionally have to use the fast forward button to get past drawn-out parts (or parts featuring Luo Luo).

I didn't like the first episode and I still think the start was so unnecessary.
But I do live the interactions between the main characters. The funny scenes of Chai Yu and Jin. I am not really a fan of Dilraba from her previous works but she really did a great job on this series and she is so pretty.
Same goes with Allen, his acting was prowess to the point that I almost forgot he is married because his acting seems to real.
I have watched this series for almost 5 times

The visuals are amazing. The acting good. The Story not so much.
Even though thought the two leads are visually stunning and good actors, together they don't seem to work at all. There's such a lack of chemistry. The story also fails them. The FL approaches the ML with a ulterior motive, dupes him for a while but falls in love with him instead. Ultimately, to protect him, the FL lies to ML and kicks him off a cliff with a stab in his chest, expecting him to live. The ML finally believes her lies and we can't really blame him for it. He comes to hate her for it and in the end, just as she leaves one prison, she is captured by him and imprisoned again. The FL just keeps exchanging one prison for another.
That's a concise version of the entire story. Despite its amazing visuals & stellar cast and characters, It is so damn boring, I couldn't have finished part 1 without the fast forwarding. But for some reason, I'm glad that I watched it.

Part 1: The Beginning of the Ride
Hi there! This review will solely be based on part 1.The beginning of the drama already showed me what I need to know, that this drama was going to be angst heavy. As I was readying myself for the ride, I felt pleasantly delighted by Dilraba’s character Yunhe. I admired that she was strong, that she earned her position as one of the top guardians of her valley. My initial perception of the FL changes a variety of times while watching part 1. One moment I’m in awe of her strength and the next I felt like the writers were giving her so much adversity but little character development.
I was interested in Allen Ren’s portrayal of Changyi however. I loved the special effects, the beautiful tail and I enjoyed seeing Changyi grow and change in temperament because of Yunhe. The chemistry was always there for me while watching the two leads on screen. Watching their romance develop slowly was one of the more interesting sides to part 1 because of it’s forbidden nature.
The cinematography, ost and costumes were all well done for me. I enjoyed watching how it played a part in the storytelling of TBW.
While I enjoyed some aspects of part 1, I expected more in character development from the FL and I wanted to see her gradually progress more towards becoming stronger. She struggles often in this season and when she doesn't, it happens so abruptly without a healthy medium.
Lastly, I felt like many things that may seem trivial but would help with our understanding of the characters, are hidden from the viewer as you watch part 1. You’ll know what to expect after watching episode 1, so I’d make a decision based on that episode on if this is the right drama for you.

boy what the heck
when i first heard about them filming this drama, i didn't expect it to be godly. re ba's acting is mid (my opinion don't come for me) and she's gonna be another fox?story:
well. this story is different than most other xian xia dramas, just because of the mermaid aspect. but while i was watching like two episodes of it everyday as it came out, i wasn't really excited and i wasn't like "ahh it's so good". but i've started it already so i might as well watch part two. there's a lotta xian xia dramas that top this one, so i wasn't really surprised or anything lol. i guess some of it is cool though. it has the basic plot of "i don't want you to die so i will sacrifice myself for you and not tell you anything and make you hate me so you aren't sad" which i'm so tired of seeing. can people start coming up with new ideas lol... this one was too similar to the long ballad, which i also. did not like very much. i think they have the same director? not sure, saw a couple clips on douyin.
acting/cast:
i already said that i don't think re ba's acting is very good so we can move past that. the dumb smiling annoys me lmao. but ren jia lun's historical drama look and acting skills are pretty decent i won't lie. he has the... (idk how to say this word in english but) 气质 that a historical drama male lead should have. i also recognized a lot of the cast from previous re ba and jia lun dramas.
music:
well. i usually like historical drama ost's but this ones also mid. i know mao bu yi sang one of them but idk it doesn't really hit different compared to other ost's.
rewatch value:
yeah i won't be rewatching lol
overall:
i know a lot of people like this one, it's decent... if you're bored and have nothing else to watch. if you want a good one to mess with your emotions that's also xian xia and has the "i dont want you to die so i will sacrifice myself" thing but on another level, watch love and redemption.

Visually lush and musically pleasing
Initially I imagined that with a super cast and a spectacular director the drama would be quite enjoyable, but the best word to describe this drama is disappointment. The biggest annoyance is the dubbing. I've never watched a Chinese drama where the dubbing was of such low quality. Some small errors are acceptable, but the amount of scenes in which the mouth and voice are not synchronized is exorbitant. It's unpleasant to watch a drama in which the mouth moves by the actress and the voice is by the actor and vice versa. There was a lack of care in the editing of the drama in this regard.
The script is not captivating, until the end of the first season did not say what it came to. The characters do not conquer, as they have ambiguous personalities. Until the final scene, I can't say precisely who is fighting for a just cause.
The performances are good, but far below others performed by the same actors. Regarding the romantic couples, I didn't feel any "chemistry" between them.
The CGI is impeccable, the soundtrack extremely pleasant and the costumes exuberant.
In short, I got to the end without having a single laugh and without shedding a single tear.
Perhaps in the second part the gaps will be closed and I will be able to praise the work of actors and director that I cherish so much.

Too much heartache
The opening scene was eye catching with the storyline picking up as it unfolds until it hits a snag. The major flaw for me was the relationship between the two leads. The typical storyline of "let me sacrifice my happiness for the sake of mankind" while in the meantime their love relationship is nothing but lies, deception, pain and suffering. Cruelty for the sake of protection. This drama left me feeling unhappy and frustrated throughout the whole drama. Adding some blissful moments instead of constant pain and anguish would have been nice. I would not recommend this one unless you're okay with constant turmoil. Was this review helpful to you?
Beautiful setting and music, mildly frustrating plot
I’m not sure why this show is broken into Part 1 and Part 2, except to get around the 40 episode limit. It’s not a natural break in the story. I’m rating on the whole package of Part 1 + 2.This show really tugged on my heartstrings. Beautiful scenery, beautiful music, beautiful people, all trying so hard- I wanted so much for everyone to find happiness, and I really cried for them and hoped very hard.
Which is great and all, except at a point it became a bit much. I was constantly worried or feeling bad for the characters. Too much self-sacrifice with bad results, and good intentions executed not-quite-right causing misery and heartbreak all around. I honestly felt really frustrated watching some of it. In particular I remember fast forwarding through about 10 episodes desperately looking for the moment when their misunderstandings would finally be resolved, and it kept not happening- by the time it did, it felt like the show was mostly over.
I think part of it is just the source material, as a big chunk of the novel does indeed have them torturing each other. At least the drama does a good job softening this relationship (eg giving them some happy moments together first, making him doubt her betrayal, having some friends there to express the frustration I shared, etc). This comes at the expense of some logic, such as one too many pearls, exchanged a bit too early.
Besides the main couple and their angst-filled saga, there’s an overall save-the-world arc that develops in the latter half. It’s slightly cliché and also not in the book, making it an interesting intentional choice. Dramas seem to really like to turn things into good-vs-evil.
Also given a bigger role in the drama are lots of good looking side characters with their own stories. I personally really liked Xue Sanyue and Li Shu, I was really rooting for them. The little butterfly was cute, but I didn’t quite like how her story evolved (the whole desperately seeking male attention arc she had). For Lin Haoqing, I thought his liking the FL was cliché and I sort of wish they stuck to the book on this one, but it’s still nice to see a more complex character.
These characters, and others, were fairly well developed. I thought the show did a good job with side characters. For better or worse, many of them end up paired up. But, many of their stories also made me cry. It was honestly a bit much… I spent too much of this show feeling sad.
Angsty story aside, this show is quite beautifully done. The scenery is magical, and I especially love the northern lands and the feelings they invoke. I have to give a big shoutout to the music. Of course music is subjective, but I absolutely loved the piano BGMs. I do think it was a bit overused, because the music would start before a scene got going and foreshadow what was coming, which was like a bunch of micro spoilers over and over. However, I still think the music was very evocative, and I might have stopped watching if this music didn’t keep pulling me back.
Styling for humans (costumes, hair, makeup) was well done. Everyone looked good, and it’s always fun to watch good looking people. I thought the acting was also quite good, from main and side characters alike. I heard Dilraba lost a lot of weight to portray the tortured form of Yunhe and I admire this dedication.
Overall, although it doesn’t feel right to rate down a show for not showing me artificially happy scenes just because I want them- sad shows that make you feel your emotions, aren’t necessarily a bad thing- I still can’t deny that I spent a lot of this show feeling worried, frustrated, and otherwise angsty, which is not enjoyable.
ENDING – READ AHEAD ONLY IF YOU WANT TO KNOW, CONTAINS SPOILERS
It’s an overall happy ending. What I think they do well, is they do roughly tie things off and show what happens to many of the side characters. I could have used more, but it’s already better than a lot of Cdramas.
What they do less well, is how they tie off the main characters’ story. The last 5 minutes give you their happy resolution, though it makes no sense. You have to google and find some snippets of deleted script that explain what happened. Why would they cut such important scenes?

Plot let it down
I am a fan of both Allen Ren and Dilraba so I was really looking forward to this show, especially after how long it ok to get English subtitles. I got to episode 27 before I gave up on the series (which is technically part 2).First the good things about the series.
1. As to be expected the two leads gave us some great acting, their skills as actors never let us down.
2. The costumes and sets on this show where amazing, someone had obviously put alot of love and effort into them.
3. The music was enjoyable although nothing spectacular it was still a definite positive.
4. The secondary and supporting actors where all good and the secondary couple defiantly had some good on screen chemistry.
This leads me to the big negative which ended up ruining the show for me. The plot!
By episode 27 they had used the 'will she die, wont she die' idea about 3 times in succession, which led to around 10 episodes of almost no character development for the main characters, either separately or together. It seemed like nothing at all was happening between them and then all of a sudden something would emerge about how much they loved each other..............despite the silly lies and hurts that could have so easily been avoided. I know this plot structure is used alot in dramas but after 10 episodes of it the show had just stagnated and I was bored, it needed to move on. This was nothing against the actors, it was purely the problem of the plot which was lazily written.
Also in the plot it seems to glance over a few things I personally would have thought was important. For example I can understand how someone as naïve as ChangYi would fall for Yunhe but it doesn't seem to cover why or how Yunhe falls for ChangYi..........feels sorry for him........yes.........sees her own love for freedom in him.........absoloutly.........sees him as her way of getting redemption.........yep............but love......its not clear.
I wish I could have watched the show to the end but I simply couldn't.
