it's epic

can i have more drama like this where the FL(Han So Hee Yoon Ji Woo / Oh Hye Jin) can actually fight and take down a whole gangster organization? i swear i love the FL dude to the fact she is a fighter and she doesn't back away from the pain she takes everything head on now that's what i call a strong FL. the scene where FL (Han So Hee Yoon Ji Woo / Oh Hye Jin) found out that the person that she is working for is actually the killer that scene hit hard like i still can't believe that (Park Hee Soon )Choi Moo Jin was the person behind her father death like the dude treat FL (Han So Hee Yoon Ji Woo / Oh Hye Jin) like his daughter or so i taught anyways it frecking get my emotions all twisted up i didn't know what to feel for this dude to hate him or feel pity for him don't get me wrong he's not weak he's strong like a frecking rock his character build-up is great and all but dammit i was sad cause at the end he got no one with him he dies almost like a lone wolf.

adults watch but no kids

This drama is really awesome the fight scenes are actually realistic and not overdramatic. One thing the story line is interesting keeps thinking if the bad good is actually the good guy. It makes you think. I also the opening music is actually really good. It just hit all the spots that you need.If you wanted action, drama, and a little romance. The main female character is a badass and she just kick butts. I would recommend to watch this drama to anyone. There are sad scenes make you suprise but it's well done and good for the story line.

my name is the epitome of evoking emotion (specifically depression)

when i tell u i cried so many times over this show, it was heart-wrenching and sad. my favourite k-trauma so far. the fight scenes were all super well choreographed and i connected with jiwoo so so SO much and i suppose the twist was predictable but not for me cos i never predict anything. either way my name will always have a special place in my heart and i 1000% recommend!!

It is a show for me!

The show is one of the few where female characters are strong throughout the story. I just wish the ending is more happy for the main lead but it didn't stop me from liking this drama.

The actors are all suited the role and I admire Han Sohee for taking such taxing action and looks believable doing the fight scenes. That one villain guy is very good from a likable oppa at first then he became very greedy the acting is really good.

The fight scenes are also very realistic and the cinematography is setting the mood for more dark and sinister plot.

I don't really have much complaint maybe the rewatch value is kind of low cos I don't see myself watching it again. All my expectations was met except that ending but it's so minor.

Gritty revenge story in the style of John Wick

Korean Netflix productions are where it's at right now, apparently. Add this one to the pile of cool shit coming out of there recently.

It's basically a revenge story in the style of John Wick mixed in with Infernal Affairs, had it been stretched out to an 8-episode mini-series.

Aside from the titular character though, it's astonishingly lacking in female characters. It's like the entire police force and pretty much all speaking parts are men aside from the main character, so she sticks out like a sore thumb. Kinda feels intentional to reinforce how alone she is but… such a weird choice.
_________________________________________

Stunts - 85/100 | A bit of annoying CGI fixes here and there but nothing that bothered me all that much. Great stunt work for the most part.

Narrative - 68/100 | This show takes itself very seriously, it's dramatic and emotional and tense. It's also exciting and has quite a few enjoyable action scenes, however the last 3 episodes or so become quite a bit needlessly convoluted. Could have easily cut 1 episode overall for much better pacing. Lead actress Han So-hee gives a great, wide-ranging performance. As far as how she postures herself, she reminds me of Hong Kong action star Moon Lee in how earnest she approaches the role of a tough petite woman up against the world. She's not nearly as acrobatic though.

Fight Choreography - 80/100 | The fights start off pretty damn amazing in the first half but get progressively worse as the episode count increases, which bums me out because the earlier ones got me so excited. Early sequences have a wonderful flow to them. Precise and concise choreography, it looks real. Later on, overdone editing comes in the picture and, while it's decent, it looks disjointed a bit, and not as good. Sadly, it's a typical outcome in films and shows involving martial arts, fights, and stunts. The earlier fight sequences usually star background stuntmen and/or martial artists who can sell the hits and perform better stunts. As more important characters become involved in fights (because the narrative demands it), fights get worse because those primarily dramatic actors aren't so good at selling the hits, and performing the stunts. And so the director has to hide some things behind editing and framing wizardry. Or sometimes it's a different team and they approach the fights differently. Previs is key here to help prepare for that.

That being said, the fights in this series aren't anywhere close to being bad, they're great and the lead (who fights throughout the series) is really dedicated to selling everything she can. But the tumble in fight scene quality is quite noticeable between the first half and the second half of this show, it's actually interesting to see it unfold, and is a subject I wanted to broach one day or another, so this was a good time to do so. It happens in martial arts movies too, all the time.

Enjoyment - 72/100 | Thrilling show with lots of hard-hitting action and dramatic heft. It gets bogged down in some weird narrative beats near the end, but overall it's still an impactful winner. And I loved the killer synthwave soundtrack that started almost every time an action beat kicked in. That was simply awesome. If you want to win me over when making something, definitely do that!

Didn’t Live Up to Its Full Potential

I was honestly kind of disappointed in this drama… I’d still give it a 6.5 out of 10 because of the overall production and excellent acting. However, I found the ending to be pretty underwhelming. I’ll explain why below (SPOILERS AHEAD).

First, I understand that Pildo was able to get through to Jiwoo and convince her that revenge was not the best path forward. She embraced the idea of a new life with Pildo by her side. What I don’t understand is why Pildo had to die. Sure, his death motivated Jiwoo to once again seek revenge. But why did Mujin kill Pildo when he knew Jiwoo would come after him? Wouldn’t he benefit more if Jiwoo looked the other way (especially since she finally seemed content to move on and leave Mujin to his own devices)? And if Mujin wanted to get rid of Jiwoo to ensure that she wouldn’t share his wrongdoings with the authorities, why did he shoot Pildo instead of her? Thinking from Mujin’s perspective, he could have saved himself a lot of trouble if he had taken Jiwoo out when he had the opportunity.

Another gripe I have relates to the final showdown between Jiwoo and Mujin. I’m not someone who needs fight scenes to be super realistic. However, I was disappointed by just how unbelievable the scene ended up being. With the number of injuries Jiwoo sustained, it seems nearly impossible that she could have defeated Mujin, let alone survived to fight another day. Although I’m glad Jiwoo didn’t die, I honestly think her collapsing in the tunnel would have been a more fitting, albeit darker, ending to the story. Jiwoo got her revenge, but it took a toll on her. She lost everyone she cared about and gave everything to kill the man responsible. Now that Mujin is dead, Jiwoo will need to find another purpose in life, but we really don’t get any hint as to what that will be. If Jiwoo had died in the tunnel, it would have at least given us a solid ending to the story, rather than leaving it open-ended like so many kdrama writers love to do.

One final thing that stood out to me was how suddenly Pildo and Jiwoo developed a romantic relationship with one another. Now don’t get me wrong: I love a bit of romance, so this didn’t bother me as much as the previous things I mentioned. However, it still felt rather rushed. Pildo and Jiwoo gave no indication of being interested in each other until episode 7, at which point they quickly became romantically involved. To me, it felt like the writers threw the romance in at the last minute to make Pildo’s death more impactful—even though it didn’t make much sense based on how Jiwoo and Pildo’s relationship had been portrayed previously.

All in all, My Name was an enjoyable enough drama, but one that certainly had its fair share of plot holes. I wanted to love this show - Han So Hee is a great actress and I’m happy to see strong female leads take the spotlight. However, I felt like the execution of this story left something to be desired, especially after having just watched another, more well-developed mafia/mob drama (Bloodhounds). I know some people may disagree with me, but overall, I’d classify My Name as an exciting yet flawed kdrama.

Intense series.

I'll make it short. It's the typical revenge scenario, so nothing new here. On the other hand, I think it was executed quite well overall. Personally, I found who was the culprit from the first episode but it didn't stop me from enjoying the series.

I don't watch a lot of series with female leads because generally I don't get on with their often cliché characters, but here I liked the simplicity, yet the determination of a young girl to find out who killed her father. She was a hero that I loved to follow the journey. I felt for her and I rooted for her until the end.

In terms of production, I must say it's very good, the script really leaned on the emotional side, and if we could sympathize with the killer, with a psychopath ? What if we hated a police force that does its best ? Me, that's what I love, simple but well-crafted scripts that transport us emotionally.

Only one regret is that one of the detective died, especially in this way, I had come to love his character, and he deserved better.

Overall, a good mini-series, a good script, a good production with intense fighting choreographies, good actors. 8 episodes were enough, no need more or less.
I recommend this series.

Great show!

I loved My Name and I recommend other also watch this show. I liked the cast.but han so hee is lowkey problematic so idk, i mean she wasn't really at the time. The reason I didn't put a 10 was because i didn't like how they killed off the main lead, and i understand it's part of the plot so that she'll be able to carry out her revenge for herself and her lover. but it was so sad. Like they could have written him ib , but whatever, the show was still GREAT.

The theme of Betrayal

I literally cried for ten minutes straight, the thought of betrayal and that all her anger was towards a person who did no wrong and put all her trust in a man that killed her dad...
The whole show focuses on betrayal, ep1, when she came in the Gangjae, and welcomed her at the end he ended up being the one to abuse her and assault her. We thought Donghoon betrayal Gi ho but he actually betrayed the Munjin, the Jiwoo was supposed to betray the police but she will betray the gang because they betrayed her and kept the truth away from her.
28/01- I cried so much when pildo died, and it still hurts....

this show was really something, i thought I would cry enough when jiwoo discovered about her dad, but they had to go and kill pildo, I was so fucking done because why...homegirl lost everyone around her and she finally had someone to lean on then gone. oh yeah and when mujin said "I never once betrayed someone who trusted in me. so why does everyone keep betraying me" it almost made me cry because he thought he could find pppl he could trust he ended up getting backstabbed and this is why it is so hard to hate the supposed villain in this show. It didn't seem like Mujin was the villain to me because he also wanted his own revenge and peace iguess after loosing his friend. but pildo's death hurt...

Would be a 10 but...

I was really into this drama and wanted to give it 10/10. Loved the cast, story, the plot twist, emotion of the characters. But than the final episode happened. I'm sorry but the romance was completely unnecessary. They could be friends and it would make more sense since when did the feelings between them appear?
The sex scene.
Why? Really why?
Was there tension between them - yes. Did we need it - no. I think the relationship would be more beautiful if they were friends. But Pildo was killed in the end so goodbye.
The ending. I really wanted to know what happened to Jiwoo after killing Choi Moojin. She survived. But how? What did she do to escape the police? What is she doing know? Well I guess we'll never know.
Also the way some police procedures where handled - I'm not sure whether they were correct. Like did Jiwoo not face any consequences for shooting Gangjae? Or for letting Choi Moojin escape? I'm sure Pildo saw this.
Apart from all of this it was good. It was enjoyable. I watched it in 2 days beacuse I really wanted to know what's going to happen. I wish I could give it 10 but for the last episode I can't.
