entertaining but that climax NOPE!

This was good. The first show I’ve seen where a girl goes after her father’s killer. They set that and the organization up pretty well.

The characters were good. Han So Hee really shines bright in this. I loved how badass and independent she was. She really had fire in her eyes and nailed the anguish and anger that Jiwoo felt. It’s impressive that the actress chose to gain weight and go to action school for the role as that shows her dedication. The scenes where she interacted with the organization were always satisfying to watch. Choi Moo Jin was a scene stealer for sure. Park Hee Soon was mesmerizing in the role and I wouldn’t mind him playing a mafia boss again in the future because he’s just that good. Lee Hak Joo was good in TWOTM but I like him much better here. He was the charming and loyal right hand man to Mujin yet he had a humane and soft side that was pleasant to see. It’s almost like sometimes he regretted certain actions but you were never really sure. Pil Do was a good support system for Jiwoo. He didn’t fully understand her but he did recognize that she had to complete her mission and offered to help her.

All 8 episodes were enjoyable in their own right but I have to admit that things got repetitive after a while: Jiwoo would be told a piece of information that she thought would get her closer to the killer only to find out the info was a loose end and she would start again. I wanna note that the intimate scene between Jiwoo and Pildo was special. It wasn’t overly sexual but relevant to the story because that was the first time Jiwoo found someone that understood her pain and allowed her to let her guard down. It was beautiful actually. The payoff wasn’t worth it imo. We never got an actual reason as to why Mujin lied to Jiwoo in the first place and it irked me even upon second viewing. My best guess is that he wanted to see if Jiwoo would become like him during the process of finding her father’s killer, so stooping as low as he does would make her worthy or something. Idk yall. That angered me. Jiwoo literally threw away her life and a great future only to discover her mentor and trusted ally was the perpetrator. I was just as livid as he tbh. Overall, entertaining show.

Vengeance is My Name

The ending left me with several hanging curiosities such as:

1. What ever happened to Ji Woo? Did she escape from a supposedly highly organized organization of this big drug syndicate? How?
2. Did Captain Cha Gi-ho helped her in clearing her name being the 'mole' and accessory to disband a highly organized drug ring?
3. Did the drug syndicate organization got a new leader after the death of Choi Mu-jin?
4. What is it in the title 'My Name' that made it significant and synonymous to the story? I find it too blur and less significant to have its impact as the title of this tv series.

Female John Wick meets Infernal Affairs; revenge for a dad instead of a dog and goes undercover

Female John Wick meets Infernal Affairs; revenge for a dad instead of a dog; go undercover for the mafia leader; Still easy watching, great flow with lots of action and stress level like the shows mentioned above

Life is too short for stressful drama. Why spend all that time watching and be stressed? Don’t our lives already provide enough of that?

Summary of the series:
- What life with out revenge right? Just you think you can stop, they pull you back in
- Amazing action overall, making me like all these actors and actresses; make it believable
- Likable characters even though they may not be the side you are rooting for
- Lots of villains, FL peels the onion and will take them down one by one and sometimes, 50 at a time
- Great chemistry on the MLs and FL, if it was cheesy, I would have drop it quick since I am comparing this to some good movies
- ending was done succinctly which is ok, its like an action movie where it just ends with a big explosion

Great watch, its edgy and full of action. At occasions it may bring some tears but not because of sadness, but for perseverance and vindicated moments.

If you are looking for gratuitous action/kick ass FL, frequent fighting scenes, no romance and just kick butt, then this is for you. beware of some gore

Helping Yoon Ji Woo go undercover is Choi Moo Jin, the boss of, the biggest drug crime group Dongcheonpa in Korea, whose true motives are not easy to read. With the help of Choi Mu-Jin and to uncover the reason for her father's death, Yoon Ji-Woo joins the police department and becomes a mole for the drug group. Jeon Pil Do, a police detective in the Drug Investigation Unit. He becomes Yoon Ji Woo’s partner when she joins the police. Cha Gi Ho, the team leader of the Drug Investigation Unit. He and Choi Moo Jin have long been enemies, with Cha Gi Ho vowing to take down his crime ring before he retires. Do Gang Jae, a former member of the drug ring. After causing problems and getting kicked out of the gang, he vowed revenge against them.

Main: Yoon Ji-woo is seeking revenge for her father's murder.
Jeon Pil-do is a detective. He initially disliked Jiwoo but he ended up falling in love with Ji-woo and ended up getting killed by Mu-jin in front of her.
Choi Mu-jin is the boss of Dongcheon, which is Korea's biggest drug ring. He was best friends with Ji-woo's father.

Review: Liked everything about the drama, i mean everything besides Pildo dying, that was really sad ._. I just want it to be a happy ending for Ji-woo. I think she deserved to be with someone that could love her and be with her in the worst times of her life

Nice start but disappointing ending

Acting
Everyone played their part perfectly, Han Sohee and Park Heesoon were magnetic in their roles. I was less convinced by Jiwoo's partner but it might be because I had a hard time not associating him with his Yumi's Cell character.

Story
The beginning episodes were engaging and left me feeling intrigued. The action scenes were so well done with the flow keeping it understandable but still intense (even though they have the getting-stab-but-totally-fine trope going on). There wasn't much suspense about her father's killer by the middle of the series as the captain was too obvious and no other suspect had been introduced by then so the plot twist wasn't that impressive.
The relationship between Jiwoo and Choi Mujin was the show's highlight for me with this blend of hatred and love, trust and mistrust between them. However, it was the only thing that I cared about as Jiwoo's character is nothing beyond her revenge, so I couldn't care less about her relationship with Pildo which was really out of nowhere and out of character for me. Big eye-roll for the ending, the logical outcome of the final fight would have been a nicer ending but well...

Good one time watch if you're looking for suspense thriller.

I was going through a drama slump. There was nothing thrilling to watch, and I really wanted to watch a thriller & that's when I decided to watch 'My name'.
Truth be told, I wanted to rate it a 10/10, but the climax hit me. It kept me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, upto episode 6 . But then the last two episodes came along 🙄 Episodes 7 and 8. They have too many loop holes and weird trajectories, that changed my opinion regarding the story.

Upto Episode 6 it was just wonderful, pretty much awesome . Things were interesting.
Episode 6 onwards, ...
Why? why did she kill Taeju, and then destroyed the evidence simultaneously. Their actions made no sense. Once it was clear to her, who's her father's killer, if she was so desperate that nothing mattered to her, she had many chances to get back at him.
The last episode romance trajectory between her and Pil do, didnt make much sense. Never throughout the series did it ever felt like she had any kind of attraction towards her sunbae. Then why choose this plotline, only of he's gonna get killed in next 15 mins.
Another weird plotline : when Mu Jin was clear that he wanted to kill the girl, and left to get revenge from her, why why on earth did he kill Pil do & left her unharmed like that. He could've killed either only her or both of them right there. Honestly the last episode didnt make much sense & I just dont get it : if the captain survived, why on earth did Pil do had to die.

Enough about the negatives, now coming to the positives in the story :
Honestly speaking, from episodes 1 to 6 the drama is a gem. Right from the 1st episode the way fl is introduced, her dad's story it was really interesting to watch. Initial couple of episodes were fast paced and interesting. The plot handled really well and the story felt like a beautiful tapestry.

All in all its a good watch.
An action packed thriller.
A short drama, perfect for binge watching.

The price of revenge is becoming a monster

I loved it! Though story is predictable and a cliché, still I enjoyed binging the entire series! I am always fascinated with Mafia/Gang/Yakuza/Underworld stories, I can't explain it. Maybe despite and in spite of the dirty world: including drugs, crime, violence and death involved with it, still I loved and enjoyed anything that has a touch of it.

Anyway, I love Han So Hee here! What a revelation! From a sweet and demure characters to this one badass, revenge driven lady she became here. Kudos to everyone involved in the mini-series, they all did a wonderful job! I also enjoyed watching Ahn Bo-hyun here, maybe he's too convincing as an asshole from Itaewon Class that I don't like watching his works anymore, 😭😅 but I love him here. And will watch his other works again.

The action scenes kept me on edge, and was rooting for Ji Woo to finally catch the person who killed his Dad.

Just a precaution, if you don't like violence, and also, it has substance abuse here, stay away from the series. But if you're okay with it, go watch it! Definitely worth your time!

Pure perfection..

Excellent. Consistent in its plot, straight to the point with just enough episodes to say the story without diverting to irrelevant sub plots, strong character development, great acting from all the cast, with a female lead that understood her role and made it her own, suspenseful action scenes, very nice OST with some low bap bits that I personally favor and a finale that for once made sense. I wish more dramas were that good.

10 out of 10 from me.

P.S No need for a second season. This drama is complete as it is and there is no need to expand or try to repeat it.

Not as badass as it seemed in the trailer.

This drama has dark-heavy plot. Storyline is ok ish to me, it could get better, who knows. So far, the plot is going steadily, pace is on the slow side.

I really wanted to give Han So Hee another chance after Nevertheless but she doesn't fit this role.

FL in this drama supposed to be a woman who knows how to fight, strong willed, a gangster daughter. But the way she beats people up screams weak, the posture and spar technique is not convincing. Facial expressions looked like someone who's given up on herself rather than someone who seeks revenge. It doesn't bring out badass girl aura. She was out of breath and panting beating people up even after she 'grew up and received years of training'. This alone puts me off bcs I solely came for her and had such high expectations after watching the trailer.

Ripped my heart out and I still say thank you

I haven’t written a review in a while, so bear with me. I won’t put any big spoilers. I just put the warning In case anyone wants to go in completely blind.

Triggers - I include this because I am triggered by SA and I don’t know this had that.

Attempted Rape, a LOT of violence, drugs

The story is good. I like police and crime dramas. It starts as most revenge stories do, the death of a close family member or friend (family in this case). But it got more into the organized crime side of it, kind of like lawless lawyer but also very different at the same time.

This is not a happy drama and there is not perfect ending in this kind of plot (when executed correctly…).

The biggest thing for me was that this really did make me feel things, all kinds of emotions and I was also conflicted at points. I don’t usually cry at dramas, I can think of maybe 4 that have accomplished that for me.

The ending is complex but the chain of events was necessary to push Jiwoo to her limit. I finished this drama feeling heavy and teary. But still, it was good and I am gladded to have watched. Now I need to watch something super sweet so I’ll fall asleep peacefully.

Thank you Han So Hee and Ahn Bo Young.
