Travelling across the time to protect the person who has been protecting you all the time.

This is actually a drama which shows a man who has always been protecting FL for a very long time without letting her to know that he is protecting. That makes us wonder can there really be a man who loves a girl to this extent.

For some reason the ML dies by jumping over a lighthouse. FL travels back to stop it again and again. The story becomes interesting when she travels back to the beginning of her third year of her senior grade, when they both fell in love with each other gradually, those were the beautiful episodes. But still at the end she failed to stop him from dying. Then we should be prepared with whole box of tissues coz after that the drama will let us know how much the ML loves FL secretly and protect her from all the hassles leading him to the death finally.

I was crying hard... knowing how much he loved her, how much he wanted her to be safe, and how much he endured alone to protect her. I'm damn sure no one in this world can be like this and that's why this drama is so special for me. I will never forget 'Zhang Wansen'.
The actor himself did a very great job. His acting was soo good. I loved it. Thank you for the hard work

Kept me glued to the tv until the end

Story starts with a disappointed FL travelling to ghe past after her fiance breaks up with her a few days before the wedding… originally the plot revolves about her, getting kver her ex-fiance… but slowly, plot changes.
Her time travel is attached to an incident with a classmate that suicides… the more she looks into it, and gets to know this guy, the more complicated everything gets… this is the ML… loved her forever, she just did not notice him until too late.

The story has fun, sad, happy and a lot of slow romantic moments… successfully manages ro keep it interesting.. even with 24 episodes.

Music is lovely… whole production is nice.
Bad point… the ending! Literally the last 5 secs leave thw whole thing open… but still.. liked it enough to watch the movie that is supposed to explain more…

He's a stray of light warming me all the time

A bittersweet school romance. This drama was more depressing yet fluffy than I expected . To be very honest plot holes are everywhere but a well written heart wrenching love story. They were like star crossed lovers but not meant to be together. Had a good cry watching a drama after so many months. Both of them tried their best to protect each other silently. I got a bit frustrated how the story was going back and forth between real time and college entrance day several times. But everything was worth. Not gonna lie I'm not a very big fan of open endings but i love how the makers left it for viewers to make their own interpretation. But i really wished everything to be clear for my mental peace so I made 2 interpretations but of course i won't spoil here. Read further at your own risk. Contains a little spoiler which is not really a spoiler. So only if she could manage to save him in her 1 year space journey, it would've been the best ending. Happily ever after? No we don't always get a happily ever after in real life. Their fate didn't allow them to be together anyway so hoping for happily ever after was useless. But i still have a ray of hope it was a happily ever after.

Cried way more than I expected

I went into this one expecting a light-hearted school drama but this one turned out to be a surprising tear-jerker.

There's some inconsistent pacing with certain arcs taking a lot of episodes and other arcs flying by way too fast, and the way the time travel works — by starting from scratch every single time — does get a little repetitive and frustrating sometimes. But ultimately, I found this drama extremely heartfelt; the leads are both likable and adorable together, and the male POV that we get is so touching and memorable.

It's true that the ending leaves a lot to be desired, but in the grand scheme of things, it didn't lessen my enjoyment of the show at all. Will be watching the film next!

Shining For One Thing (2022) is a Time Travel School Life Romance Drama (contains no spoilers).

Short Review

Sometimes you pick up your next drama by following a favorite actor from the previous drama that you watched. I followed actor Qu Chuxiao from ‘Wandering Earth’ to ‘Shining For One Thing’. This Chinese drama is a Time Travel Drama which is very technical and science rich in story construct, but very romantic. The Chinese are often sticklers for technically sound plotlines. The writer was very careful to try to stick to the modern Scientific constructs of time travel/displacement thinking. I have covered the different modes of Time Travel in the past, like the differences between Time Travel, Time Slip, and Time Blend as a writing style for a story. ‘Shining For One Thing’ goes one step deeper, to try to explain Time Placement. It covers which timeline you are breaking, the possibilities of where you end up and the consequence possibilities when you travel into different Time Displacement zones. While this may sound too scientific for some, ‘Shining For One Thing’ really breaks through by making the explanations uncomplicated and informative, producing a very entertaining Time Travel drama. Shinning For One Thing is a “Time Travel” drama, because the mode of traveling through time is a definite object, an outdated phone. Great OST! Great love story. Although many time travel dramas use time travel only like a cab ride to the past, Shining For One Thing uses great writing, great concept, and a great use of time travel itself, to produce a great time travel story.

The female protagonist in this drama uses time travel to go back and forth in time to change her dismal future/present. Through it all, she gets hooked up with a young male student whom she knows (in the opening segments of this drama) dies in the past. She then makes it her mission in time travel to change her future/present, but also try to save this boy too. Along the way, she falls in love with the boy. The story is complicated, but totally intriguing. It progresses very slowly, I suppose this is so that the viewer can keep up with the action and the science. You have to sit with this one. However, there is a grand payoff in the back half of this drama.

Time travel is a modern construct, which is not believed to be naturally occuring. It has been given meaning by humans who believe that time travel is a definite possibility. In Shinning For One Thing (2022), the time travel was caused by the inexplicable use of an old phone and by deleting the messages to cause time travel to that point in time of the deleted message.


Extended Review

The female protagonist traveled to a new past each time she attempted to go back in time. She kept failing to enter an open loop of time where changes could be made to the future. To fix the future she needed to enter the right alternative universe.

Most travelers who claim to go back to the past did not enter the closed structure of the wormhole universe. Instead, they enter the crack of a parallel universe. Female Lead—So I did not travel to the past. I went to a new time and space (parallel universe). No wonder nothing changed (when she traveled through time).

At the end of the Korean drama ‘The King: Eternal Monarch’, the male protagonist had to search through many alternative universes to find the right one which held the right circumstances and the woman he loved. This became necessary after his mode of time displacement (That family heirloom) was broken. The Wormhole had to be manipulated manually in The King: Eternal Monarch. In Shining For One Thing, the girl knows the outcome, the death of her schoolmate. We find that out in the opening minutes. She makes several attempts to enter the right time wormhole universe, which would allow her to change the past, but she keeps failing. She needs to enter the time and space where changes are possible. She must find the open time loop, instead of the closed time loop where changes can not be made to what has happened already. Along the way, even with all her course corrections, she finds romance.

This is time travel with a definite mode of travel, the outdated phone. With some travel, you are just an observer and can change nothing (closed time loop). With some time travel, you can change the outcomes (open time loop).

The female protagonist keeps failing, because she is not entering the open time loop section of the time wormhole. She is entering the crack of a parallel universe and is not able to change anything in that future. Same with the Chinese Drama Someday or One Day (2019), you must find the right time wormhole with the right set of circumstances, before change is possible. With the Korean Drama A Time Called You, the right time wormhole was entered on the first try in this time travel Korean drama, using a Song Cassette and Walkman as the means of time travel to the right alternative universe.

Unexpected good surprise of the plot

I watched this 2 years ago, 2023 so I have to rewatch this to be able to remember the details.
All I can remember is a very warm love story, not the fluffy cheesy type, that was made exceptionally well, as well as the time travel part. Topic of time travel is hard to tackle but this drama was made excellently, imo. I was actually not prepared that the flow of the story differed from others I have watched( not that I watch many but time travel is one of my favorite genre) and it was a good surprise plot( I would not have known that it would be a love story)!
I love the personality of the male lead. Never can I imagine a shy introverted boy can be made romantic too but qu chuXiao who playing the character wansen fits perfectly to his role. Love him here!
The lady lead is also quite good with her role here.
After I had watched it, I listed this drama as my favorite time travel related drama. Highly recommended for its cohesiveness and coherence in its narration.

Waste of my time...

I finished episode 7! I can't continue this!! Where is the story development?? And why is a freaking thirty-year-old woman acting like she's ten with little to no IQ?? I’m tired. Most of the episodes so far are just filler moments. Why do Chinese writers always drag out most of the shows?? When I started this, I thought, "This seems good! I'm glad I found something similar." In the past, I watched a K-drama called Blue Birthday (if I remember correctly). It’s similar to this one—it also has time travel. I mean, it’s similar, but with the difference that the female lead goes back to save her crush, while in this one, she doesn't even know him. Anyway, in short, it reminds me of that show. Go check it out; it's really good! But as for this one, I’m dropping it, and I probably won't pick it up again. The female lead is annoying in so many ways. Such a waste of my time!

edit:After reading some of the comments and getting spoiled (which is fine since I won’t watch it), I realized it has no similarity to Blue Birthday in terms of direction. The idea at the start is almost the same, if I remember correctly, but aside from that and the time travel aspect, the shows have nothing else in common.

I'll be your umbrella....

Après la déception de «"Someday or One day" , romance et time travel ne faisaient pas parti de mes envies du moment. Ayant commencé "Reset" avec ado n°2 et mon chéri et "Jirisan" avec ado n°1 et chéri, un drama simple et frais aurait été le bienvenu lorsque la solitude s’en vient. L’image me plaisait, et ô cliché suprême, l’acteur principal avait une belle prestance sur l’illustration.
Ni une ni deux, je lance le premier épisode. Drama finit en 2 soirs.

Hum….un début classique.
2020, une trentenaire fiancée à son amoureux de lycée se retrouve soudainement rejetée, lamentablement, par dudit fiancé. S’apitoyant sur son sort malencontreux, la délaissée retrouve son ancien téléphone, obsolète mais fonctionnel. Un téléphone qui par magie la transporte en 2010, soit 10 ans en arrière lorsqu’elle était encore lycéenne en dernière année.
Rien de nouveau….Lin Bei Xin, après un petit temps d’adaptation, comprend que sa venue dans ce passé est étrangement lié à la mort d’un lycéen, Zhang Wan Sen, durant le 高考 (gāokǎo), la période d’examen des lycéens conditionnant l’entrée universitaire. Toujours classique me direz-vous. Car bien sur, ici nous comprenons rapidement que Lin Bei Xin doit tout simplement empêcher Wan Sen de mourir. .
Les deux premiers épisodes avaient un petit air familier…..Bei Xin se retrouvant soudainement projeté en 2010 à chaque action de sa part, un petit clic nous indique qu’elle change d’époque. Se décidant à protéger Wan Sen, Bei Xin le poursuit assidûment, calquant minutieusement ses pas aux siens au grand étonnement de son entourage dont….le futur ex-fiancé se faisant joyeusement rembarrer par celle qui hier encore l’idolâtrait.
Oui, un petit air "d'Extraordinary You". Juste un tout petit air. Mais très agréable (Haru me manque!)

Le scénario est rempli de cliché : Un premier de la classe maladroit et réservé, une héroïne sans peur et avec une extraordinaire joie de vivre, un personnage en conflit permanent avec son père qui plus est directeur d’école, un voyou au grand coeur, un futur ex-fiancé qui finit par réellement tomber amoureux de sa future ex-fiancée….oui tout est cliché.
Mais le traitement de l’histoire, des personnages est tellement bien fait, tellement joli que j’en suis tombée raide amoureuse. Les atouts de ce drama sont à mes yeux indéniables : des personnages attachants, une jolie romance, une réalisation avec un budget limité qui s’en sort plus qu’honorablement, une OST apportant une douceur apaisante…. Encore une belle réussite pour l’auteur de « A love so beautiful », les fans apprécieront sûrement ce nouveau drama.

Le scénario est plutôt simple. Bei Xi doit sauver Wan Shen. La mort du jeune homme est classée comme un suicide au lendemain des examens. Déterminée à le sauver, Bei Xi fera plusieurs aller-retour entre 2020 et 2010 avant de comprendre ce qui se cache réellement derrière la mort de Wen Shen. Le voyage dans le temps est ici simple à comprendre, ce qui est intelligent de la part du scénariste. Cette simplicité, loin de desservir le drama, donne une très grande fluidité à l’histoire. Je n’ai pas eu besoin de faire travailler mes neurones et je n’ai eu qu’à me laisser emporter par le flux. De plus, la logique de ce voyage dans le temps, pour une personne comme moi qui a souvent beaucoup de problème à comprendre et donc à y adhérer, est imparable. Il y a une raison à ce voyage dans le temps, une façon de s’y rendre et une façon d’y revenir. Il y a peu de place à l’ambiguïté et c’est appréciable.
Les interactions de Bei Xi à chaque voyage avec les personnages nous apportaient toujours un peu plus d’indices et il était génial de la voir, avec ses souvenirs intacts, interagir à chaque fois avec les personnages, passé ou présent, qui eux n’en gardaient aucun.

Protéger avant tout Wen Shen. C’est ainsi que tout commence pour Bei Xi. Un voyage qui ne la laissera pas indemne. Ce qui commence donc comme une simple histoire se révèle au final un peu plus complexe. On apprécie la logique et la mise en place du puzzle de l’histoire. Tout prend son sens au fur et à mesure que l’intrigue se développe jusqu’à la finalité. Les raisons de ce tout deviennent une évidence à la fin.
J’ai adoré. J’ai été impliqué émotionnellement dès le départ et je n’avais qu’une seule envie. En savoir plus à chaque épisode. Que Wen Shen survive!!!

La relation d’amitié entre nos deux protagonistes progresse rapidement, d’autant plus qu’on en apprend un peu plus à chaque fois que Bei Xi voyage dans le temps. Chaque face à face, chaque interaction entre Bei Xi et Wen Shen étaient adorables et rempli d’émotion faisant battre un peu trop vite mon petit coeur. Leur alchimie était parfaite. Le naturel et la simplicité de leur relation étaient d’une pureté apaisante. Le couple nous est présenté dès lors comme une destinée. Leur amour a cette force et intensité qui traverse le temps. Qui défie la fatalité! C’est la beauté de leur amour. Prêt à se sacrifier sans aucun remord, sans aucune peur. Sans rien en échange, si ce n’est le bonheur de l’être aimé heureux. Même si cela implique offrir sa propre vie. Cela parait niais, mais mon coeur ne s’y pas trompé.
Censure oblige, ne vous attendez pas à de fougueuses étreintes ou de baisers langoureux. Que nenni, et pourtant, aish, la chasteté de leur étreinte et leur « presque » baiser m’auront plus d’une fois mise en émoi. Ce drama aura su jouer sur mes nerfs, j’aurai voulu pour une fois un bisous! un câlin! Du concret quoi!

Bei Xi est l’archétype de l’héroïne pleine de vie et de bonne volonté. Sa bonne humeur est communicative et sa façon de poursuivre Wen Shen sans relâche adorable. Sa force de caractère est appréciable et sa bravoure d’autant plus touchante que l’on sait qu’elle reste fragile physiquement.
Loin d’être frustrante, voire lourde, Bei Xi joue la carte de la franchise dès le départ envers Wen Shen, ce qui a l’avantage d’éviter les malentendus. Je me suis surprise à sourire bon nombre de fois lors des pitreries de Bei Xi. Je ne dirai pas que j’ai été impressionnée par ce personnage ou bluffée par l’actrice, mais je pense qu’elle s’en sort très bien.

Wen Shen….Ahhhh j’ai une faiblesse pour ce type de personnage!! Non seulement il est joli garçon ( cela est subjectif), mais en plus, il a un sourire à soulever des montagnes et un regard d’amoureux transi à faire pleurer dans les chaumières! Sa maladresse et réserve du début évoluent lentement et c’est avec émerveillement que je découvre un protagoniste d’une force et d’un courage hors-norme. Ses sentiments envers Bei Xi sont ceux d’un chevalier!!!! Le symbole du parapluie qui revient souvent dans le drama est d’ailleurs très parlant…
Wen Shen donnant ce tout, ce lui entier pour Bei Xi, sans compter, jusqu’au dernier épisode. Cela m’a remuée toute entière. Sincèrement, comment ne peut-on aimer un personnage qui ne demande rien si ce n’est de voir la personne aimée vivre sa vie dans la parfaite insouciance? Pas moi en tout cas.

La bromance Wen Shen/Maizi est de celle qui donne ce petit souffle magique au drama. Maizi, bagarreur et « violent », a été un sacré coup de coeur. Son amitié avec Wen Shen est une des réussites de ce drama. J’ai adoré les voir ensemble. Une relation faite de respect où aucun des deux ne jugent le statut et le choix de l’autre. Cette loyauté sans faille de Mazi envers Shen Wen était magnifique…
Si je devais faire un reproche, c’est le peu de temps à l’écran consacré à leur amitié et surtout, le rôle de Maizi dans la dernière partie du drama. J’aurais tellement le voir un peu plus et surtout savoir ce qu’il devient. Nous avons un aperçu pour tous les autres, sauf lui…

Un petit mot sur le futur ex-fiancé, Zhan Yu…. Je pensais que j’allais applaudir à chaque fois que Bei Xi le rejetterai encore et encore. Après tout, nous n’allons pas nous mentir, il l’a bien mérité. Imbu de lui même et d’une arrogance insupportable, Zhan Yu apparait comme le parfait rival amoureux que l’on aime détester, incapable d’accepter que l’on puisse l’ignorer au profit d’un rat des bibliothèques. Et nan! Les clichés ont la vie dure hahaha. Zhan Yu évolue et c’est avec étonnement que l’on ressent une énorme peine à son chagrin d’amour. La sincérité qu’il nous montre et les efforts incroyables qu’il déploie m’ont beaucoup touché. C’est plutôt rare, mais j’aurai presque aimé qu’il réussisse….

La réalisation du drama est plus que correcte. Les couleurs sont chaudes et certaines scènes sont vraiment très belles. J’ai adoré la scène, classique, où Wen Shen rattrape Bei Xi, une scène exploitée un million de fois mais qui fait mouche encore et encore, quand le ralenti et la prise vue rendent cette scène sensuelle et magique. Ou encore le « presque » baiser : Un des personnages dort et se réveille, le visage de l’être aimé quasi collé au sien. Oui, oui un autre cliché. Et pourtant, la beauté de la mise en scène, la position des personnages et l’angle de la prise de vue ont rendu ce moment très sensuel et j’aurais presque crié de frustration si je n’avais eu peur de réveiller la maison à 4 heure du matin.
Le bémol est, pour ne pas changer, le bruitage et le doublage….Il ya eu pire me direz-vous. C’est un peu dommage car parfois le décalage du son avec le mouvement des lèvres était parfois un peu agaçant. Heureusement que cela finit par se faire un peu oublier.

L’OST est jolis et apaisants. Sans trop en faire, les BGM et chansons insufflaient l’ambiance nécessaire.

La fin est super joli et la dernière image, symbolique. J’avoue être tout de même restée un peu sur ma faim. Mon imagination étant fertile, j’ai laissé la dernière image prendre forme dans mon esprit. Mais j’aurais aimé, ne serait-ce qu’un peu… un tout petit peu, le voir.

En conclusion, une romance qui traverse le temps et l’espace, un scénario de voyage dans le temps simple et pourtant solide, je lui donne pour ma part une place parmi mes grands coup de coeur en ce début 2022 sans hésiter. Si je devais regarder à nouveau? Sans hésiter.

Para ser una historia con todos los clichés imaginables es un drama que roza la perfección, y lo digo siendo una chica que suele evitar los dramas modernos yo veo fundamentalmente históricos y xianxias, pero Shining For One Thing es ahora parte de mi top 5 de cdramas favoritos.
Mi corazón se va a quedar mucho tiempo concentrado en Lin Beixing y Zhang Wansen, que desde ya son una de mis parejas favoritas de todos los tiempos, no solo de los cdramas, sino en general.
Esta historia tiene todas las emociones y los actores hicieron un gran trabajo.
Todo el mundo debería ver este drama :)

Lo mejor:
- La pareja principal, Zhang Wansen y Lin Beixing son una pareja perfecta, sus interacciones son 10/10, con muchos sentimientos, ambos son muy soft y se preocupan genuinamente por el otro.
- El plot con los viajes en el tiempo y el misterio de por qué suceden y qué es lo que debe hacer la protagonista, todo eso es muy interesante.
- Tal vez es una opinión impopular, pero el angst que pasa en la segunda mitad del drama es genial, aunque me hizo llorar varias veces.
- Aun así el drama también tiene momentos hermosos y felices que te hacen sonreír y creer en el amor.
- Amo a los personajes secundarios como Maizi, Chaoyang y Gao Ge. La amistad también es importante en este drama y lo ame.

Lo no tan bueno (porque no creo que haya algo malo con el drama):
- No soy muy fan del ost, no me pareció memorable.
- El final abierto (que espero que se resuelva con la película el otro año).
- Esto lo vi en un comentario de algún cnetizen, ¿acaso era tan difícil llamar a la policía desde un principio?
