My heart danced, fluttered and skipped a beat

Call 911 because this drama just proved that Korea can do great BL’s.

Story: Episode 1 hooked me but, I completely understand why people don’t quite liked episode 2. It was slow paced, crammed a lot of things into one 10 minute episode and it wasn’t really realistic. Although, since when is any K-drama anything close to be believable? Oh well, people are gonna complaint either way. To summarize, overall, the story played wonderfully over the course of the 8 episodes, even when the catalyst that jumpstarts the series’ shenanigans is nothing but far from reality. Again, since when is any drama supposed to be “realistic”?

Acting/Cast: This series was beautifully casted, I hated who I had to hate and loved who I had to love. The boys are just lovable and the villains, although generic, worked well with the story and the setting.

Music: I don't love the swoosh at the end of the opening credits, it’s like nails on a chalkboard to me. But, the music in general was great and it fitted the ambiance every time.

Rewatch value: 100% will watch again. Periodt.

Overall: After some missteps, Viki is doing amazing work on putting out good stories without sacrificing characters or relying too much on fanservice. “You Make Me Dance” doesn’t have a realistic set-up, it’s a tv show, but if you put that aside and just watch the story unfold it will surely sweep you off your feet. *Including “Color Rush”, I see this as a great step forward for BL’s in Korea.

Korean BL's Continue To Tease Me

Why Korea!? Why are you making these series so damn short!? This is another one where if it had even more time to develop it could've been great, much like "Wish You"! I wanted more showing of dance and competition because that's heavily implied for the title. But trying to crame both a love story and competition into 8 episodes that are only like 15 mins each is virtually impossible. I don't blame the creators at all, just wished they'd start to realize that these series are worth more time into. There was also the storyline of Shi-On's mother. So a lot of material! What a crappy mom btw, you can get remarried and not literally ignore your children afterwards! She even took his loan money and didn't even care to pay back. Trash and he deserves better. Poor baby.

Maybe this one will get the "movie treatment" too where they cluster the episodes together and add in extra content?

I do think these 2 leads had way more chemistry than "Wish You" meaning I believed it more overall romantically. Maybe it's how progressive things were shown and it felt more natural? The kisses in this were wayyyy better too. Whereas in "Wish You" it was cute, but didn't really have any sexual tension. Shi On showing Hong Seok the audition dance was actually really well done and had me feeling butterflies the way it was laid out into the bed/love scene. Well done show well done! Also not something showed in many Korean BL's so yay! Progress!

The ending episode with the breakup cop-out was annoying, but it ended happily ultimately so whatever. I'm conflicted by this one, I think it will go in the pretty good pile. There were some things I really loved about it and others needed some work. Not my favorite of the Korean BL dramas (that still goes to "Color Rush", "To My Star" and "Long Time No See") but it's definitely worth a watch! I would even say watch this over "Wish You" tbh. Also the soundtrack for this one is really really good. So download that if you can!

Personally, I LOVED this. I feel that the storyline is very cute and the characters are pretty good at acting. I would definitely recommend this. If you just want a quick series to watch this is definitely a good choice. The episodes aren't that long and you can finish it in a night. I did. It may be my favourite korean bl! It is just so wholesome and the actors displayed their part perfectly, you can tell they are experienced. You could just feel the chemistry between the main couple. This is way too underrated!

unfortunately pathetic

it is i, the niel.

firstly, these characters needed more depth. they were nothing. the first episode made me want to drop the series entirely because of how cringey it was, imo. the logic of this show was certainly nonexistent, but that could've been partially due to how choppy the editing was. the music was over-the-top. although it was decent, it started feeling like a new song was playing every few minutes by the end of the show. the dialogue was so cheesy, and the tropes/random fluff made me physically shudder, i'm sorry. each episode was less than 15 minutes long, and yet i felt as if they were taking years off my life. episode 7 in its entirety was ridiculous. the pacing was decent at first, but then they decided to throw in every piece of conflict/plot during episodes 6, and 7, and 8.

i wanted to feel bad for sion, but he just felt like a dumb guy. it was almost pathetic at some points. how does he get injured and then is magically fine within the same episode? this could've been simply because of how the character was acted out, but i literally could not get a read on his personality or motives, because they changed every few minutes. i just don't get why they did any of the things they did. also the ending? weird. the acting felt ambitious, and i'm sure that these guys have done better work now, but man did i feel like it was too much.

also, why were we only given one snippet of "what could've been" in terms of hongseok and the piano? what a missed opportunity and failed aspect to add. come on guys.

unless you really like these actors or these characters, there is no reason to rewatch this or, honestly, watch it in the first place. i only found the presence of the 30-count carton of eggs to be amusing. a story wasn't being told here. the red string of fate is very cute on its own, but in no world do i believe that these two are destined to be together. i'm honestly disappointed with how everything played out, given the fact that the concept was intriguing and could've been executed with more than what we were given. after watching, i felt like it was just put out into the world to enjoy if you viewed with rose-tinted glasses, but without anything of substance to back it up? even if this was just for the purpose of comfort/cheesiness, it was giving nothing. the chemistry was nothing. the connection was nothing.

i slightly feel bad giving it such a low rating, because an attempt was made. however, i can't delude myself, so a 2.5 it shall be. so long!

best,

the niel.

I CRIED BUCKETS AT MIDNIGHT

One of the best Korean series of late. The story is so simple, so honest, no frills, pretensions. It’s like Si On’s dance body: muscular, lean and mean.

I have the same feeling while watching CHERRY MAGIC – maybe because of the age difference of the main characters. It also brought me back to the 80s – same feels while watching FLASHDANCE.

Super love, love, love this series. The characters grow on you as you go along. Get your tissues ready for episodes 3, 6, and 8. You’ll need them if you’re a crybaby like me.

No wasted scenes, no unnecessary characters. The music and cinematography are superb. Great acting, too, from the entire cast. Also well directed and edited.

I can watch this series again and again and again.

Not Good Enough

Korean Drama " You make me dance " had potential, but it failed to deliver.

The drama had a messy pace that was also accompanied by an irrational plot and that's not due to the whole credit creditor plot prompt. The characters acted irrationally most of the time, something that would never have happened normally. Like the boy-dancer getting mad at the guy who was trying to help him!! And not to his bullies, whom he called friends until he didn't, in a blink of an episode. He actually was, overall, an annoying character that acted like a baby most of the time.

In addition, the drama left a lot of things out, like the story with the mother. That would have been justified by the length of the drama, but, the drama included a lot of scenes that weren't really necessary (see the photoshoot sequence). The bully plotline was unconcluded as well.

Other than that, the radio theme was interesting and the couple was okay, but their love story was rushed.

So, overall, 3 out of 10.

You Make Me Dance is not my usual drama preference. But I really liked that one of the MMC's was a male ballerina, but not effeminate. And I liked that his romantic love interest was also a man who wasn't effeminate. They weren't overly masculine either. They were truly portrayed as people that could be you or me. I really liked that. Yeah, they had their own issues they had to overcome, but they weren't unrealistic or silly - something you could sincerely sympathize with. Their romance was sweet and innocent. The OST made it even more lovable as it was such a pleasing musical soundtrack to listen to! The only fault I can think about this drama is that it wasn't longer. I know it was supposed to be a short drama, but man! At the end of every episode I just needed more of each of those MMCs!

The drama presents a promising & mature concept, but its execution falls short. The interesting developments are concentrated in the final episodes, leaving The beginning episodes feeding slow & unnecessary. A more balanced storyline would significantly improve the viewing experience. While the acking is commendable, the character Personalities could be more consistent through better writing. Additionally, the numerous flashbacks feel excessive & could have been used to smooth out the abrupt Scene transitions caused by time constraints. it's worth watching if you have a couple of hours lo spore, but it's not
a must-see

Awwww

Another Korean BL that is a good watch. I enjoyed the story - it was original. The two main leads were very good. Their chemistry was good too. With these short and sweet ones - only 8 episodes and short episodes at that - it is sometimes hard to pick up on feelings and emotions - but they did a good job.

I wanted more from it, it could have been so much better, the storyline was good enough to be longer and have more content.

The romantic scenes were done well.

I liked them both.

I didn’t understand why he slept and ran....it didn’t make any sense to me and we never got an explanation either.

I would have liked to know more about them both.

When he was on the phone pretending to talk to his mum I did cry....

I’d you like your BL short and sweet, not too much drama then give this a go.

great but plot holes

I really enjoyed this show. It was a bit short and it had a bunch of plot holes that kind of frustrated me a bit. For example, the mom. His mom just up and abandoned him and we never got an explanation as to why. What parent is a seemingly great parent and then gets married and up and moves to a different country and abandons her son that she seemed to love? Makes absolutely no sense and we never got an explanation and it has been bugging me this whole time lol. Like he stated that she was an amazing mom and from the flash backs, we get the gist that yeah, she was a good mom but why would she abandon him? she literally changed her number so he could not contact her again and i just found that strange because she seemed like she was a really great parent. So confused on that plot hole and it will forever bug me lol.

This was really great. My only complaint is that it was so short, and that I wanted a bit more closure at the end.

The pacing across the overall series was perfect. I think the progression of the two characters falling for each other was great. In typical KBL fashion though, the actual content feels like it’s playing in slow motion. It’s perfect at 1.25x speed. The acting, from both leads, but particularly Shi On, was pretty good as well. It’s short, and the love story is simple without tons of conflicts, but it was well executed. The dancing was good enough to be passable for the story they wanted to tell. They were clever with the camera angles and cuts, and what was shown wasn’t mind-blowingly impressive contemporary dance, but it wasn’t so bad that it detracted from the story or anything. And props to this show for no dead fish lip presses! Nothing super steamy, but multiple real, proper kisses all the same.

My primary complaint is that I didn’t feel all the loose ends were tied up in the end. Hong Seok was being forced to go to Vietnam. Did his boss just completely let go of that after hearing Shi On’s confession? She was cold and uncaring the whole series so I don’t know why she changed her mind. Is she going to let him quit like he originally wanted to, and if so, what’s he going to do now? And what was her deal anyways? She was inappropriately caressing Hong Seok’s face sometimes, and that was never explained. What happened to Shi On’s mom? Is the end of that story line just that she abandoned him and we’ll never know anything more? And what about Jung Hoon? Is he not going to have any reaction to losing the audition to Shi On? And the show ends right when Hong Seok comes back to Shi On. They hug and kiss and live happily ever after I guess. I needed like 5 or 10 more minutes to see them actually happy together and see some semblance of what their happily ever after would actually look like.

No consent issues, but some minor boundary issues. Their first meeting, Hong Seok ties up and carries Shi On away over his shoulder — he’s a debt collector and Shi On was running. Following that, Hong Seok signs as the guarantor for Shi On’s debt, which Shi On plans to pay off by getting the lead role in his audition. Hong Seok starts entering Shi On’s house uninvited, essentially moving in, trailing him around, and micromanaging him, including force-feeding him and preventing him from working instead of practicing. Shi On says he’s uncomfortable with this, but it’s not really acknowledged. Hong Seok also demands that Shi On answer the phone whenever he calls. Hong Seok is very grabby — there are multiple scenes where he grabs Shi On by the arm to prevent him from leaving.

But overall, both consent and respect of boundaries were relatively good compared to other BLs. When Hong Seok starts staying over, he never presumes or insists that he sleep in the same bed as Shi On, and instead sleeps in a sleeping bag on the floor, even though the heat isn’t working. When Shi On tries to hold Hong Seok, and also when he tries to lean on his shoulder, Hong Seok immediately rejects him and Shi On immediately backs off. When Shi On first kisses Hong Seok, he gives him ample time to stop the kiss before making contact. When Hong Seok stops them and says it can’t happen again, Shi On listens. When Shi On says he wants to be alone that night, Hong Seok listens. I also appreciated that despite the creditor / debtor dynamic, there were no power dynamics between Shi On and Hong Seok. Shi On was confident and assertive, not afraid to voice his opinions, stand up for himself, or say no, and he was often the one making the first move.

It's a cute short BL Series, though I wish it could have been longer...

I'm glad that SK is producing more BL series. The biggest problem though is that it's too short. Most of the short BL series they've produced had so much potential to be a longer series like Color Rush, Where your eyes linger, To my star, Mr. Heart, Long time No See, etc.

What I can say about the Cons for this series is that the development or the progress of their relationship is too fast considering that it's only an 8 episode drama which has about 12-15 minutes running time per episode which totally saddens me. Like what I've mentioned in my headline, if this was a longer series, the series could've made more impression or impact with the audience /viewers because the plot and characters could've been developed well.

Nonetheless, the acting and production is actually good. Plus, the OST for this short series are pretty sweet. Especially, the opening soundtrack.

Moreover, it's great that the actors had a good chemistry going on. Their short and cute moments in the series were sweet and I'm glad they weren't awkward with each other.

As for the supporting actors with their side characters, there's nothing much to say about them actually because they had little screen time. Nevertheless, props to them for their support in the series.

In conclusion, the thing that really bothered me with the series is the PACING of the story. This really had Potential and personally, it felt like it was wasted. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a light or mellow short BL series, give this one a try... ;)

P.S. : I'm actually hoping or looking forward to SK for producing more series like this but with longer running time so that the story will progress better because a lot was definitely going on in most short BL dramas especially this one (Color rush, Mr. Heart, To my star, Long time no see, Wish you in my melody, Where your eyes linger etc. ) and I'm sad that the director, producer and writer have to try their best to mesh everything in the story so that it could fit in a series which has only 10 minutes running time.
