New Threats, Old Wounds, and the Weight of Power

Coming back to The Uncanny Counter felt less like jumping into a sequel and more like walking back into a story that never really stopped breathing. The noodle shop still buzzes. The team’s still scarred but standing. And the stakes? Sharper, more personal, and far less predictable.

What worked right out of the gate was the chemistry — that familiar dynamic between the original Counters hadn’t dulled in the slightest. If anything, it felt even more grounded. These weren’t shiny, overpowered superheroes now; they were veterans. Worn down, wiser, but still clinging to the same stubborn drive to protect. Watching them back in action, side by side, was like seeing a band reunite — a little older, a little bruised, but playing tighter than ever.

And then came Ma Ju-seok.

Yoo In-soo’s arc as Ju-seok turned out to be the emotional engine of the season. It was less about good vs. evil this time, and more about grief curdling into something darker — how tragedy doesn’t always create monsters, but sometimes reveals the rawest parts of what’s already inside. His descent was painful to watch, not because it was shocking, but because it was understandable. The show didn’t paint him with broad villain strokes. It let him unravel, slowly, heartbreakingly, until the line between victim and threat started to blur.

The action sequences? Still kinetic and satisfying, maybe even more polished this time around. There’s a sleek brutality to how the fights are staged now — more controlled, more deliberate. Less flailing rage, more surgical takedown. But the show never loses its emotional thread in the noise. There’s always a beat — a glance, a hesitation, a scream held too long — that reminds everything unfolding has weight.

That said, there were moments where the pace clipped along a little too quickly. Certain plot developments felt like they deserved more time to land. Some new characters were compelling but didn’t get quite enough space to bloom. The villains, while intimidating, lacked the eerie, soul-curdling presence of the first season’s darkest antagonists. But the heart of the story — the struggle to hold onto humanity while wielding power meant to destroy — stayed intact.

What struck hardest was how much this season leaned into moral ambiguity. The Counters aren't invincible. They're not always right. They make messy choices, they react from pain, and sometimes they fail. But that’s what makes the show hit differently. There’s no neat justice here — just people trying to hold the line between right and wrong when everything around them is shaking.

By the end, the door’s clearly cracked open for more. And while this season wrapped its arc with real satisfaction, there’s still that itch — the sense that these characters have more story left to tell. Not just more battles, but more growth, more reckoning, more chances to heal.

Counter Punch didn’t just follow up the original — it expanded the world, raised the stakes, and darkened the emotional palette without losing the warmth that made the first season shine. Not quite flawless, but close enough to make that next chapter feel not just welcome, but necessary.

an all time favorite

i will literally never forget this series and if they make a third season, (which i kinda doubt) best believe im tuning in. i don't really have much to say because my opinion is almost like everyone else's, but i don't think this season is as rewatchable as the first one. dont get me wrong, it's a great season and i cried a lot, but i feel like i won't feel the need to rewatch it for any reasons. this season will stick to me. i would rather just rewatch the first one and maybe rewatch the second one. or just watch specific episodes. im sad that some of the fighting scenes were so long and i wish we got to see more of mo tak's background because out of everyone, his was shown the least but the show didn't seem rushed at all and the whole crew did a great job on it.

better than s1? let's see

honestly i loved the uncanny counter S1 and decided to watch S2 I expect alot from the S2 and yeah it was good but not better than S1 although there are some things where S2 got a win against S1.

Q. Why was S2 not better than S1?
- The storyline was good but there were many faults and some things which didn't sense at all also they made too dramatic scenes which feels like typical indian serial so it was rlly distracting

Q. What were some things that were better than S1?
- The villians and the action were/was rlly good most prob better than S1 (acc to me). especially last two eps got the win..it's def fun to watch

Q. Should I watch S2 then?
- Def you should but can not guarantee if you would like it as everybody got different taste of watching kdramas but it is indeed a good one but not better than S2..

Final conclusion : i personally recommend you to watch the uncanny counter S2 even though there were some things not comparative to S1 but it is still worth watching!

· opinions and ratings : love this kdrama and it was rlly fun to watch..solid (8/10)

The Uncanny Counter Season 2 is just fine not good as Season 1

The start of the season was good but after that I feel bored sometimes.Season 1 was so good and it was my first k drama and I loved it.I don't know they follow the webtoon good or bad.Because I have checked few chapters they all are practicing to fight hwang pil.In this season they are just eating noodles etc.Ga Mo-tack is so weak in this season. He is not fighting good don't know why.All of the time he was looking confused. He can't save his partner from hwang pil and run away was so bad i laughed. He was strong in first season. The new smell counter irritates me when he smells evil spirit he just ewww this is so bad.He didn't develop a skill in whole season like controlling his power of smell and fight evil spirits .Villians are good Ma ju seok and hwang pil.Whole season they are just dependent on so mun.In their new base they are just eating you can check the episodes just eating eating eating very less practicing.Ha-na was good she fights very good in this season.Last episode action was good the scene where so mun enters ma ju seok body the scene is excellent. But I feel this season is just okkish fine. But It was my first k-drama that's why I want season 3.please make it good like season 1.So mun was badass in this season.

It made a joke out of the first season.

I couldn't finish the second episode from how bad it is. I thought I would like the season because of season 1's hype and its many things it did well. But season 2 is a flat season. I thought Yoo in soo would help, coming from the good bad mother, his comedic timing and seriousness were perfect- but here? It's so bad.

The relationship between the group feels numb now, unlike in season 1 where their personality shined, now Mun is way less serious with them. It shouldhave needed in season 1.

Season 2 should have stayed on my plan to watch

This season was such a mess. It focused way too much on the counter stuff and not actual on their human lives or emotions. So Mun's friends barely got any screen time and they were such an important part of the first season. His grandparents were also barely present. I also did not like how we introduced a love interest, old flame/friend for Hana. Mo Tak didn't get enough screen time too. I truly did not like how they wrote his character.

I also couldn't care less for Mr Ma and his storyline. By episode 4 I was already over him. I truly don't understand why he got soooo much screen time. The other villains also let me down. They also overpowered So Mun waaaaay too much. That truly lessened my enjoyment as well.

Overall the writing truly went downhill and it's honestly such a shame what they did with the second season. I absolutely adored the first season! They kinda ruined it with this one.

The first season of The Uncanny Counter established itself as a fantasy gem thanks to its perfect balance between the emotional weight of its characters and a grounded, serious plot. Unfortunately, Counter Punch seems to have lost its way, delivering a sequel that feels disconnected from the essence that originally made us fall in love with the show.

Here is a breakdown of why this season fails to land the expected punch:

1. A Radical Shift in Tone
What was once a supernatural drama with deep, personal stakes has transformed into a production that leans too heavily on farce and histrionics. Subtlety has been replaced by exaggerated comedy that shatters the tension during key moments. While the first season treated the protagonists' pain with respect, the humor here feels forced and, at times, entirely out of place.

2. Characters Who Lost Their "Spark"
Despite seeing Mun step into a leadership role and veterans like Ga Mo Tak balancing police work with spirit hunting, the group dynamic feels diluted.

Lack of Gravitas: The organic, protective connection of the Counters has been swapped for interactions that are lighter and less substantial.

New Additions: Although the arrival of Na Jeok-Bong was meant to refresh the team, his integration contributes more to the divisive comedic tone than to the team's emotional depth.

3. A Narrative Going in Circles
On a plot level, the season suffers from problematic pacing. Although the villains led by Hwang Pil-Gwang present an imposing visual threat, the story feels stagnant:

Ma Ju-Seok’s descent into darkness is dragged out unnecessarily.

There is a sense of redundancy, where conflicts repeat themselves without truly moving toward a satisfying resolution.

Final Verdict
The Uncanny Counter 2 is a frustrating experience for those seeking the maturity of the first installment. By trying to become "bigger" and "louder," the series sacrificed the heart and seriousness that made it special. What was once a captivating tale of justice and grief now feels like an over-the-top action anime with too much filler and comedy that never quite lands.

The worst part: The loss of identity and a script that makes a once-fluid story feel heavy and repetitive.

Their growth from season 1 was really showed during season 2

From season 1 where they battled their most powerful enemy, a level 3 if I'm not mistaken, they showed some growth. They adopted psychokinesis to their fighting style and it improved it. Season 2 showed very powerful enemies and the plot really navigated the story really well. From revenge to salvation, it shows that people despite succumbing to a blinding path of revenge have some humanity remaining deep within their soul and that helped the ML in overcoming their dangerous situation. The new member elevates their overall capabilities since he can detect evil spirits despite not having the territory.

Too Many Overpowered Characters it Got Lame

Sadly this is also one of those Netflix series that shouldve ended with single season instead of having sequels. The evil spirits become more ridiculously powerful as even the afterlife beings that were supposed to govern the world could not anticipate their powers and abilities. How mindblowing is that? It’s fine to have one superhero that could harness unfathomable powers, but to have even the demons do so is too repetitive of the same thing. They never explained how Hwang first become the most unpredictable demon but then decide to create another with even more powerful than him. I was like, really? So now we have 3 humans, Hwang, Ma, and So suddenly becoming this superhumans with superpowers that constantly evolve without any governance from the up and above?🤣😆 The writer ran out of ideas is it? For higher beings, the Yung people definitely looks too clueless at their job.

So Mun also became awfully emotionally-attached in S2. His tendency of letting go Ma Juseok when he couldve been captured on multiple occasions keep on reducing the counters’ chances to summon Ma Juseok while he was still in control of the demon, and then So Mun dares to give off disappointment looks when the rest of the crew voted on elimination. I mean, hello! You are the sole reason why Ma Juseok’s situation escalated to almost beyond saviour, don’t look at the crew like they have completely given up! 🙄 this is why in the law enforcement, you don’t get to handle cases where you have any interests in it. Policemen don’t get to investigate cases against their own family or relatives, the same goes to prosecutors, cuz it is naturally impossible to remain objective and unbiased in such situation. How So Mun reacted to Ma Juseok is exactly why he shouldnt be involved at all. First he can’t bring himself to summon the demon in his beloved Uncle Ma, then he can’t bring himself to catch him, then he can’t bring himself to kill him despite seeing Aunty Chu draining her lifeforce trying to revive and fix all the people gravely injured by Ma’s rampage. That brat deserves more than a punch from Ga Motak because his obsession of saving one man led to countless of others getting injured and killed. I am totally with Ga Motak on this one. And the plot armour around So Mun is ridiculous. All this while Ma Juseok cant even take control of his body but suddenly he could heal Han-ul after breaking his neck? 😌🙄 that is just the plot trying to make So Mun the flawless hero again.

I thought S1 had enough bawling and crying by the male characters, then come S2 that blasts episode after episodes of So Mun and the rest of the crew bawling their eyes and snot out. OMG, it got so repetitive and predictable that the FF button had to work extra hard this time. The writer also tried too hard to create many sentimental and touching scenes that they became corny instead. Oh gosh i dont know how much eye-rolling i did throughout the series. That last reunion of Wigen? Totally unnecessary. I think the actress was rather bad in S2 too.

I liked the actress for Gelly though. She was so damn awesome here. She really did it with Gelly, i think she shined more as a villain than Hwang and Ma. The one who played Ma Juseok is pretty good too, cuz he needed to play 3 different characters here, the kind-hearted firefighter, the vengeful husband and finally Hwang the supervillain that didnt give off super vibe much. Well done.

Lastly I am disappointed there wasnt as much screentime for Juyeon and Ungmin here, I missed those two very much.

All in all I am not impressed at all with S2. And if they ever come up with S3 I dont think I’ll be watching.

A total waste of a masterpiece

Season 1 got me hooked up on these counter things. S1 was made very well and garnered a lot potential. It’s just a shame that S2 failed to meet pur expectations. Otherwise, these could have been a a great series like even the characters will get to changed,it will still be liked since it’s all about being a counter and fighting evil spirits. S2 made those evil spirits almost as powerful as the counters in S1 even more since Mr.Ma can even read/see then from the territory. These could have been fine if they made the counters a lot more powerful (gaining additional unique individual powers) and smart too (with their past experiences fighting the #1 evil spirit in S1- Sin and a more years of training). But to our dismay, they made them appears as "can’t win a fight unless with Mun" . They made Mo-tak (power:super strength in s1) seem to be an ordinary counter in s2. They could have just retained his super strength as powerful as Mun, the only difference is Mun has a lot more additional powers like psychokinesis, agility, etc. OR if they want to show that Mun is the most powerful counter, instead of weakening the other counters, they could have made the counters a lot more powerful on their powers + additional unique powers then made Mun possess all their powers too. Then the character of the newbie counter was a total flopped. He was made like a sniffing dog. How wonderful it is if Jeong's power is a quick sense of smell(he can tell if it’s level 1,2 3 4) + he can travel in a lightning speed (or the power to communicate with animals)? Then Mun can summon the territory keeps moving towards the smell ,then Hana can see what's in there (better if Hana can now also see the past by sensing a certain place).

I was actually excited to watch the S2 but im sorry but i had to skip from ep.7 to the final episode. But just in case they'll make a S3 either with the same characters or new set of counters, they I'll still definitely give it a try to watch. Fighting evil spirits is unending, so this Uncanny Counter has a very high potential for a great number of series.

Disappointing sequel

If you are like me and you went in to this season right after finishing the first season than you most likely also feel like you picked up a completely different show. This season does not feel like the previous season; especially if you are going in to right after watching the first and it is fresh in your mind. If you are picking this up after having seen the first season when it first came out then you might find it more enjoyable.

If you are coming into this season hoping to feel the magic of the first then you'll be disappointed like I was. The first season did an excellent job of setting up the plot and characters that you kept you bound to the screen. The characters all had depth and their own stories that made them all endearing to you as a viewer. The main plot was well thought out and executed with the subplots contributing well to the overall picture. While So Mun is the main character and you do find yourself attached to him and his story the writing for the other characters was also done very well all the way down to the side characters that had little screen time. I rate dramas based on my enjoyment and season 1 kept me captivated from the first episode and I never wanted to fast forward through any part of the show which is very common for me to do in kdramas.

This second season however ignores many of the rules that were established in the first season while also abandoning the original character profiles for the main cast. The characters are supposed to be 2 years older in this season and obviously SO Mun has grown both mentally and his powers have also grown quite a bit. The writers firstly did not do a good job of explaining the power growth as it does not feel very reminiscent of the first season. While psychokinesis was touched on last season, this season it is now in every move all the characters make, even the villains, making the production feel more cartoonish and over the top. This season is also more about the villains from the very first episode to every episode after that. The villains are also made to be the evil version of the counters and while villains are not meant to be likeable these are downright obnoxious to watch. They get so much screen time but no backstory or explanation for how or why they are doing the things they are. Even Mr. Ma became more powerful so quickly that it did not make sense based on the rules you previously understood in season 1. While the first season made you feel like these people could actually exist, this season has turned them into super heroes instead. The humbleness that you felt in all the characters before is no longer present. The addition of the comedic relief new counter just leaves you frustrated any time he is on the screen instead of finding him funny.

I wouldn't recommend you watch and just let the end of season 1 be the end for you.

Dropped it after watching second episode

this is not related to 1st season
the main character is different Mun from dickless dimension
Mun moved on from his crush on HANA because his dick got chopped off while jerking off

and he become a cheap copy of Superman without dick.
he is so powerful that he moved on without any reason.
HANA is now like his sister, who stare at there sisters butt in season one, of that Mun isn't this mOOn

Most of Korean drama confuse sister and girlfriend because OPPA is used for both husband and brother
DO the don't know the difference between brother and boyfriend or they don't have a word for brother because to them both are same
