Bonds in the Series
The story mostly tackles friendship than romances. The only intimate interaction was when they kissed. The rest were only intense moments or more on friendship. Although the main lead, Sheng, shows signs of attachment, he does not realize it and pushes the notion that he only sees him as a brother. Meanwhile, Tian, despite his romantic feelings for Sheng, doesn't make big moves that throw him off as someone who likes Sheng. He does small gestures as someone who admires Sheng but is hardly noticeable. Over time, they grow attached with each other. Was this review helpful to you?
A Flawless 10/10 Masterpiece Cut Short by Reality: A Heartbroken Review of The On1y One
Adapted from the immensely popular web novel Mou Mou by Mu Su Li, The On1y One (2024) is an absolute triumph in the boys' love genre. Directed by the visionary Patrick Liu, the series crafts an incredibly poetic, deeply moving coming-of-age story that completely raises the bar for youth dramas. The production value, the hauntingly beautiful cinematography, and the brilliant soundtrack create an atmosphere that feels heavy with nostalgia and deep emotion, earning a definitive and flawless 10/10 rating. The absolute soul of the drama lies in the slow-burning relationship between Sheng Wang (Benjamin Tsang) and Jiang Tian (Liu Dongqin). Brought together as reluctant stepbrothers and classmates, their transition from distant strangers to each other's ultimate anchor is handled with breathtaking delicacy. There are no rushed or forced tropes here. Instead, their bond is built on subtle micro-expressions, stolen glances, and an intense emotional tension that feels completely natural. Tsang and Liu deliver masterclass performances, capturing the raw, bittersweet essence of first love and the heavy pressure of navigating hidden feelings in a world that doesn't understand them. The first season concludes on an incredibly painful, bittersweet cliffhanger that leaves viewers desperately craving closure and aching to see Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian finally overcome their hurdles to live a happy, peaceful life together. While director Patrick Liu confirmed that the script for Season 2 was fully completed, the fandom was hit with devastating news regarding its production. Due to severe conflicts with the capital-driven production company and a critical lack of funds, Season 2 has been officially canceled. It is an incredibly tragic and ridiculous consequence for such a highly successful show. The actors and director expressed deep love for the story and a willingness to return, but a big company will always put money first, leaving this beautiful story stranded without the financial backing it deserves.Ultimately, The On1y One remains a masterpiece 10/10 experience, but it comes with a heavy dose of real-world heartbreak. It is a spectacular, emotionally resonant work of art that deserves every ounce of praise it gets. However, knowing that a second season is dead in the water simply because the production lacks the money to bring these boys back together makes the final episodes incredibly bittersweet to rewatch. It is a rare gem that showcases how cruel the entertainment industry can be to romantic, high-quality projects, leaving fans around the world left only with the hope that a miracle might one day rescue this unfinished love story. Was this review helpful to you?
From classmates to enemies; from step-brothers to friends, or ¿something else?
Could be just another scholar show, but the characters are so very mature, a full psychological journey on each of their minds, their own past haunts them, but they keep a great charisma, innocence and love bites in every episode. The director Kuang-hui Liu delivers another beautiful masterpiece of younger lovers in the discovery of their sexual orientation.
This is a must-watch series if you appreciate great acting and lovely production about the mental journey of two young classmates in a very stressful institute, that suddenly becomes step-brothers as their parents started dating.
This is a "college themed" series, their exploration of friendships limits, sexual awakenings, lots of inner family issues and just an emotional discovery of themselves.
It's a step-brothers normal love story, but they begin to start feeling something more for each other till the very ending of the series, making them to take hard decisions to rethink about this moral issue, the ending is still open, waiting for a second season.

If you don't like an uncertain ending, don't watch this series. it's not bad, it was one of the best series I've seen in this Genre and theme of the series, but the lack of a season two really broke my heart.💔.Was this review helpful to you?
Why The On1y One Leaves a Lasting Impact as a BL Series
One of the best Taiwanese series I’ve watched. While the plot is a familiar one in BLs, this film sets itself apart by showcasing the realness of emotions and how they gradually come to light. It feels authentic and heartfelt. It's unfortunate there's no season 2—I’d love to see the story continued. I also read parts of the novel, and the film does an amazing job of staying true to it, capturing its essence and emotions perfectly. It’s rare to see such an accurate adaptation, and that's what makes this series even more special. I also really liked how the actors played their roles—my favorite character is Gao Tianyang. He's so fine and cheerful, and his energy adds so much to the story.💋💋Was this review helpful to you?
one of the best taiwanese bls i have seen
The acting is very good, I enjoyed Liu Dong Qin acting the most. The storyline is not very unique, but it still steers me in very nicely. The cinematography is very beautiful and well done for me. I binged the first three episodes today and i am SOOO excited for the upcoming episodes. I am kinda worried about the timeline when they start their actual relationship. I hope this BL keeps its pacing the same from start to finish>>>>Was this review helpful to you?

Masterpiece
IMHO, The On1y One stands as one of the best BLs of all time. Few series have ever resonated with me on such a deeply personal level, and I doubt anything will surpass the emotional impact this show delivered. My only concern? The possibility of it not getting a second season, which feels like a disservice to the brilliance of this story.Storyline: The narrative is masterfully crafted, seamlessly blending elements of romance, personal growth, and emotional depth. The adaptation is not only faithful to the source material but also elevated by the thoughtful liberties taken by the director, producers, and editors. These creative choices didn’t just complement the story, they enhanced it, creating a richer and more immersive experience. The attention to detail in the lighting, cues, and soundtrack left an everlasting impression that I’ll carry with me for years.
Themes and Dynamics: The way the story explores two people, Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang, who are so similar yet fundamentally different, is nothing short of captivating. The trope of "love at first sight" intertwining with a slow-burn passion is executed with precision. Jiang Tian’s immediate infatuation with Sheng Wang contrasts beautifully with Sheng Wang’s gradual, growing love, creating an emotional push and pull that had me enthralled from start to finish.
Characters and Chemistry: Their connection, from an initial brotherly bond to a romantic partnership, is profoundly moving. The evolution of their relationship feels natural and deeply heartfelt, making their moments together all the more impactful. The supporting characters, often overlooked in many series, are given such depth and backstory here that they enrich the narrative and make the world feel authentic and lived-in.
Production Quality: The visuals and sound design are exemplary. The lighting choices highlight the emotional tones of each scene, the cues subtly underscore the themes of love and growth, and the soundtrack is nothing short of magical. It ties every element together, elevating the series to a level of artistry rarely seen in the genre.
Final Thoughts:
The On1y One is not just a series, it’s an experience. It’s a story of love, growth, and connection, told with a depth and artistry that sets it apart. The profound bond between Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang, paired with the exceptional storytelling and production, ensures this series will remain unmatched in my heart. A second season would be a dream come true, but even as it stands, The Only One is a masterpiece that deserves all the accolades and appreciation it can get.

Unoriginal, Don't Even Want To Continue
Okay, this BL has a lot of good reviews, high ratings, in my book that's a big red flag, most high rating shows aren't up to my liking nor standards but regardless I watched the first episode, let me just say it didn't hook me, it's your typical stepbrother story, same old same old with Taiwanese BL's. I mean I got nothing against that but like make it more unique and interesting? It's always the same, enemies to lovers type of thing, a dead parent or divorced parents. I've watched too many BL's like this and most of them are not that good cause they're so repetitive. I did some research too and the story seems to be dull and like a slowburn, nothing wrong with that again but at least give us something later on. But no... apparently it's one of those BL's that end and literally make us crave more while a second season is yet to be confirmed. So, I'm gonna save my time on this one and rate it a 7. I could rate it lower but I know theres quality and potential there. I saw some of the dropped reviews and they looked like they were AI generated, they all had a 10 star even tho it was dropped. Maybe it was a mistake, but regardless I'm trying to be honest, and if anyone is looking for a similar opinion like me after watching the first episode then it'll be easier to find. If this show gets a second season and I find out about it and it's also better, maybe I'll give this show a try. But right now. No, thank you.Was this review helpful to you?
boring
The most boring bl I've watched this year already starts with that clichéd plot of the fake brothers that nobody can stand anymore, but now comes the worst part: 12 long episodes that have nothing to say, it doesn't seem like gay romance, it's not bromance...what does it seem like? Tedious math lessons, supporting characters that no one cares about, bad acting and a mediocre ending. The director probably had a second season in mind but forgot to make the viewer care about the story and the characters from the first season. Was this review helpful to you?
