*I can fix him ahh drama, Li Xun and Zhu Yun of another universe.*
This drama was twisted in so many ways. Loved the acting.Loved the cast.
Loved the aesthetic and vibe of the drama.
OSTs.. chef's kiss.
The set up was good, from childhood to school to university. Basically a good slice of life drama. But I won't waste my another second on this again.
Loved the mauturity of side characters but the main lead's thought processing failed me. FL YingTao made her entire existence about Jiang QiaoXi, our ML.
In simple words, the FL kept chasing the ML, while ML kept pushing entire crowd away along with FL. Until he gave up and hugged her in hongkong.
(I wish i opened more reviews before watching it, because i kept hoping for good episodes while getting nothing till the end. MDL pushed the reviews that optimistically praised this drama for idk what fact.)
(If you want brutually true details, continue reading--)
"So c'mon superman say your stupid line-", "Don't forget me yingtao, wait for me a bit more yingtao." Uh... Our bro Qiaoxi has found several ways to drag this drama in a way it ragebaited me. There were many scenes which gave me cringe coated in embarrassment, all done by the FL. Her entire goal throughout the series was 'I can fix him.' And yes she was fully unaware of it, thinking it was love. Yes it was, maybe, it aligned with her personality ig. Because a well raised daughter picks up the most ruined guy to love. Make him her project. And our guy qiaoxi didn't fail to be that perfect project. Any guy who needs fixing has endured a trauma in life, which was, by his mother, trying to force maths on him. To keep being the prodigy. Like his brother Jiang mengchu was. I repeat, 'was'. So yea, according to yingtao he deserved immense love. Which he got. From everyone except his parents. But kept pushing everyone away because he f believed 'the current Jiang QiaoXi....me, don't deserve love.' While telling the FL to not give up on him and keep loving him. THE AUDACITY. Until he gave up when FL chased him all the way to Hong Kong till she turned 20, and told him she's tired and giving up on his self loathing bullshit. And he suddenly his senses rang to him and he finally decided to stop pushing her away and love her finally.
'He loved to play and she loved to get play with.' But in a sad, ragebaiting, twisted way which was potrayed like a sakura.

don't use your western lense
ZJM(FL) I don't think she does many cheesy easy urban dramas. This drama is heavy not as heavy as stand by me but a little heavier than Amidst a Snowstorm of Love and if you not ready for the emotional toll then skip it but do they have some great quotes and themes to inspire and motivate...YES.First major theme-running away from problems will not solve anything but create more problems. ML dad and him move away from ML mom cause she needs to do work but there are hints she might have been having an emotional brekadown and didn't want the ML during that time.
Second or simultaneously theme- you can't replace one thing for another. you can't replace a child with one you lost, you next child is not the same as your first. A rabbit is not a cat.
Third theme that is more underlying-get therapy,
Fourth theme- have friends to support you during the hard times. For example, the ML mom had no friends (obsessed and crazy) but ML's dad had friends so he is way more adjusted than the wife/mother of ML. The friend group shows how having true friends help you get through the rough times. and can push your forward.
Biggest Theme- parental projection which is when a parent projects their own, often unfulfilled, needs, beliefs, or desires onto their child, essentially trying to live vicariously through them. Or A child raised with parental projection may feel pressured to conform to their parent's expectations, rather than forming their own opinions and beliefs. This movie is saying that this type of parenting is not good. We see that most of the friend groups family give them the choice to choose their own life but the ML family does not, instead it is what the ML mother wants.
Other reviews that it is toxic relationship- not really, somehow the FL feels it is her job to help all people who came from her hometown you are made to understand this very early and then in later episodes when the parents are talking. You learn about it in the stories, she is liked because she is the one always helping others. In the first or second episode when they are kids the ML grabs the FL arm and keeps her from falling and we later learn in later episodes helps her in math. I think this was to let the viewers know this is why ML and Fl were so connected. The ML helped her as well. During the show the families always talk about the FL and how she was always helping the other kids and bringing a smile to everyone. Uncle Wang who was always down because didn't have job or couldn't keep steady work. The lottery she one was not really a lot of money but it was enough to make a splurge. Once again the FL was spending it on everyone else and not her self. The ML also points this out, how she is always thinking of others. I understand the ML for "ghosting" her during his worse time and feel embarrassed. I have done the same thing, because is so hard to be vulnerable and raw in front of people who knew you when your were great but I know being vulnerable and real with your friends is the best way to heal. I think that is the last theme. Falling doesn't mean you have to stay at the bottom forever. You can get back up again especially if you have the right people in your corner.

what do you look for in youth drama?
when i look for a youth drama i want to see a good mix of romance and the situations arise at that young age and the consequences of your actions. where most cdrama don't touch upon the latter this was different.i was hooked from the first episode to the last. it's not draggy it doesn't feel cringe and there are no blinding plot holes.
1. story- as an avid watcher of Youth dramas this was very refreshing for me it actually deals with the problems of youth like arrogance, innocence, high school embarrassments and first love and heartbreak but what's different in this was it showed the not so fun parts with great deal od empathy for the characters like financial struggles , regret, failure especially in academic life and losing your dreams. I genuinely felt so refreshed seeing it.
2. Romance - I'm a sucker for aa childhood sweetheart romance. and i personally like characters like the main leads especially the girl. Someone who doesn't wait for the other to take the first step she can take the initiative on her own. someone said in a review it's a wrong message to send to girls but i love to see anyone chase after the other if they're worth it for them no matter the gender.
3. Uniqueness - one thing about cdrama you see is the characters all have good life ahead no matter what situation was previously. this drama is more realistic in that sense it shows that sometimes things just doesn't work out. the universe doesn't care if you're a gifted genius or genuinely a good person sometimes bad things happen just because and you have to do your best.
this drama in my opinion gives out very good messages likr not taking opportunities lightly and not letting your insecurity and perfectionism get in the way of happiness you deserve as a human and you're not a failure just cuz you didn't accomplish your dreams . I highly recommend it.
this is my first review and it's only my opinion. sometimes different things touch you in different ways and this did it for me.
there are some cons like: i wish the turn around of the ml was done in a different way but that would have taken a few more episodes and i didn't see any actual apology from either of his parents (but thats honestly very accurate for Asian parents lol)
Honestly I'm glad i didn't check out the reviews when i started this series. it's ironic that I'm writing one after reading the negative reviews... BYE

So far not great
I was very excited for this drama because I’m a sucker for these type of romances and the genre in general but this is disappointing me. I’m in episode 8 and all I feel is frustration. At first, I was all happy and giggly because they were so cute as kids. When Qile moved to the city, I was rooting for her to toughen up a bit and let the guy suffer more. But I shouldn’t have expected because of course, they had to make her this weak FL who’d go crazy for the boy even after experiencing sh1t.
Her friends and their friendship is what kept me going until this episode but her girl best friend riles me up a bit. I guess there’s no doubt that they all have a sense of immaturity but her in ep8 with what happened between the FL and the other guy… idk she just rubs me off in the wrong way.
It’s at Episode 8 and all I’ve felt was confusion about where the FL and ML’s relationship is heading. It’s getting tiring 🥲
Yet, I’m still giving this a shot because maybe I’m just frustrated with the current turn of events and maybe I’m writing this out of frustration 🤷🏻♀️

Soft, but heavy
A beautiful and moving series. Perhaps it generates a little too much frustration. The story is beautiful, the acting even more so. It has a soft atmosphere, but at the same time it is heavy and at times painful. It shows various aspects of life, in particular how we can change, succeed, fail, feel lonely and inadequate in a world that demands so much, when in the end the problem is that WE don't accept ourselves. It shows the importance of presence, both in family life and in friendships and relationships. I was disappointed that the relationship with the protagonist's family was not explored in more depth at the end, given that it played a fundamental role in the first half of the series.

Lazy writing. Don't waste your time!
Had big expectations from this one, who wouldn't after the Princess Royal.I believe even youku and others expected big from this.
I was sad that cctv dropped this show, but also read that they were confused that this didn't fit into what they wanted at all. Now I understand why.
This is neither a youth show nor a romance one.
Except building up of Yingtao' character, it's like if they didn't even care about the rest characters at all.
Qiaoxi is a tortured boy who likes Yingtao. Few minutes and viewers should be OK with it.
The squad: one like Yingtao, one is infatuated with the other, the rest two have no ambitions or real meaningful sentences if not related to Yingtao.
I got that this story revolves around Yingtao, but this isn't just revolving because all other characters are so uni-dimensional, zero character growth, zero character depth. Mere objects just fit in to support Yingtao.
In fact I would say that everyone are doing only guest appearances in this show because they don't have anything else to make them endearing to a viewer.
For me it's a failed adaptation completely.
If you want to really enjoy a good youth show, with all friends having an arc, meaningful arc, then this is the wrong show totally 😂.
Don't waste your time.
Only gave a rating of 6.5 because of actors and the kids in first episode.
Adding to my review above:
any so-called chemistry between Yingtao and Qiaoxi are only because viewers like both actors and they have a off-air natural chemistry, because storywise it makes zero sense how and why these two should even be in love?! infatuation maybe, purely physical attraction- but love? sorry you lost me here! They hardly have any worthwhile scene to prove this ardent so-called love.

“Not perfect in pacing, but perfect in emotions.”
Our Generation is a warm and emotional coming-of-age drama that takes us through the lives of Cherry (Lin Qi Le) and Jiang Qiao Xi — from their childhood innocence to the struggles of growing up and falling in love. The early episodes showing their childhood are especially touching, making you feel like you’re growing up with them. The drama captures the sweetness of first love, the comfort of friendship, and the bittersweet pain of separation.
What makes it special is its nostalgic, slice-of-life tone — it doesn’t rely on big twists, but instead on small, heartfelt moments that feel real. The acting of the child and young leads leaves a lasting impact, and the atmosphere is warm and relatable.
On the downside, the romantic chemistry between the leads feels a little weak, and the pacing sometimes suffers because the story was cut down to 24 episodes. Some moments feel rushed, especially in the later part of the show.
👉 Final Verdict: Our Generation is not a perfect drama, but it’s a heartfelt one. If you enjoy stories about youth, friendship, and first love with a nostalgic touch, this is a beautiful watch that stays with you.
✨ Our Generation isn’t about dramatic twists or grand romance — it’s about the quiet, simple moments that shape who we are. It reminds us of childhood laughter, bittersweet first love, and the friendships that guide us through growing up.
While the pacing feels a bit rushed and the romance chemistry isn’t always strong, the drama shines with its warmth, nostalgia, and emotional depth.

Should be a 12 episode drama
Terrible writing, no climax. I thought there would be something when she arrived on giving up on him but just few sweet moments with the guy and she's all over him. Duh! Might as well be a pokpok! The music was good, the acting was okay but the writing is terrible. There is no suspense. If they planned this as a 12 episode drama then it would have been fine!
Dropping this on the 6th episode because I can't with how they made the FL into this fluffy, stupid girl troupe who can't seem to move on from a guy she met when she was so little. Would have made sense if there was also something with her friends than just her running constantly to a guy who can't defend her. I mean, are girls really that st"pid? When you have great friends and loving parents, you'll revolve your entire life to a guy whom you've shared fewer years? She really is a pokpok , maybe write that down instead.

I am hooked!
At first, I am planning to watch it until all episodes are completed and not during airing. But with the clips I’ve seen in the reels and clips made me watch 1 episode. But after watching Episode 1 and then give another for the next episode. Before I know it, I finished all the 8 episodes in full night ang now waiting for the next episodes to be available. I didn’t expect to be hooked in this drama. But when I watched it, the drive to see more of Zhang Linghe (Jiang Xiaoxi) made me stay. I want to see further developments of the story. And with the pace I find it in a good pace. I want to see how they would endure and thrive in this circumstance. I wish that Jiang Xiaoxi would be brave enough to stand uo for himself and not being scared of his mother. I want to see that in the next episodes. Also I am so happy to see Zhang Linghe in a young looking face that suit to his role as teenager. He is just so cute and eye candy! He is just a versatile actor as I see him as Jiang Xiaoxi and not as ZLH and not even the other roles I watched in his other dramas. He is a very good and versatile actor! Very gorgeous and handsome actor! 🫶

Very mediocre
I love, love C dramas and have watched hundreds but this genre is not my cup of tea. It starts nice enough about kids growing up together in a very nice, supportive community. That jumps to a little bug eyed girl being obsessed with one of the visiting kids who moved away and now grown up. He is a hot, very handsome, math genius who is very popular in school. The FL lead hasn't seemed to age and still looks like the same bug eyed little girl. Casting is totally off as there is absolutely no chemistry between the ML/FL whatsoever. Plus the fact that the FL is totally obsessed with the ML and stalks him from the beginning. Don't really want to watch more of this mismatched pair. This is just my opinion, others may love this genre. Was this review helpful to you?
