The 15-year-old "good girl" Qian Jia Yue is admitted to a prestigious high school, where she faces various academic challenges. Her plan to confess to her neighbor, the outstanding student Xiao Han, ends in failure. Her foster brother, Mao Tou, is intelligent but always causing trouble. Qian Jia Yue befriends a new, bold friend, Chen Mo, and the girls grow through their friendship. Meanwhile, the parents go through a series of life changes, including family crises and restructuring. Chen Xiue, a former educated youth who returned to the city, has a strained relationship with her daughter, Qian Jia Yue, due to her long absence. When Qian Jia Yue’s grandmother passes away, the emotional entanglements between the three generations of women are resolved. Chen Peng Yu, who prides himself on being an elite, realizes after clashing with his rebellious daughter Chen Mo that each generation has its own "mission." Guan Ai Ping, a strong-willed woman, raises Xiao Han on her own after being laid off. "Small business owner" Zhang Qi Ming learns to get along with his mischievous son Maotou and, after many ups and downs, reconstitutes a family with Guan Ai Ping. Despite changing times, the warmth of family love and the neighborly care in the community remain constant. (Source: Chinese = Tencent Video || Translation = kisskh) Edit Translation

Slice of life of the late 20th century of Shanghai, China

This is a slice of life drama that brings back the nostalgic late 90s of Chinese high school students set in Shanghai.
Personally, this isn't amazing or nor is it bad. It just shows a day to day life of the main characters.

There are a lot of teenager issues that happens universally within the main characters circle. For example, one-sided love, secret crush, and forbidden love because China forbids young love in high school it seems. There's also characters who had to deal with weight issues, mother-daughter relationship problems that were quite relatable. Other topics this drama touched upon is remarriage, adult friendship and jealousy, etc. There's basically a plethora of topics this drama touches upon, but there's barely any romance if anyone is here to watch romance.
Personally, I think this was filmed very well cinamatography wise. I also love the use of Shanghainese to make this drama more authentic.
Acting wise - everyone did their part quite well, there's nothing phenomenal per say. It feels like the adults were more unserious and humorous compared to the kids.
Unfortunately, mid-way through the drama was when I was beginning to wonder if I should have dropped it because of how boring it became. I usually like watching 90s-inspired Chinese dramas, but I think there are way better 90s inspired cdramas than this one.

a comforting watch

Watching this drama i saw myself growing more fond of the characters every episode which gave me the motivation to complete it. The family portion of the drama was very warm and at point even made me cry, it's not the best family drama out there but it's definitely not the worst. The story at some point gets really slow. For me it's the characters that you grow to love and the setting that made it worth
