An absolute Gem
This drama is an absolute Gem ...It is heart wrenching, touching and goes straight to the heart, the pit of your stomach sadness with overwhelming harrowing, heartbreaking, and heartrending feeling that is a tearjerker, yet poignantly heart warming that touches your soul, the laugh out loud moments that makes you want to watch it over and over again ...
I wasn't expecting to like this drama but thought I would give it a try, however, 2 episodes in, I am amazed at how captivating and mesmerising this is, it is a delight to watch Liu Yifei at her very best, she embodies and personifies extra edge that extraordinary natural talent brings is something that cannot be taught and is what makes great actors stand out … know what is required at a given moment by their viewers; to immerse in the drama
A profound, serious and thought-provoking story, I have watched all episodes and am totally immersed in the story... The acting is convincing, conveying the sense of power struggles and hardship of rural life in China, The injustice of class subordination, "there is nothing difficult in the world, but only those who have the will and belief, have Confidence; Perseverance and a rich Imagination, opportunities will become the driving force of courage to try... If the opportunity does not knock on the door, then build a door, success comes from finding and seize opportunities. The male lead Li Xian is unassuming yet effective in how the story unfolds, to stay true to oneself, the ideal and the underdog's path to justice, it is a poignant topic.
A drama you don't want it to end

The perfect slice-of-life, with a dose of romance, comedy and a bit of angst
This drama itched a scratch I wasn't even aware existed. Despite its very slow burn nature, from the very first episode I was absolutely sucked into the story.STORY
The storyline itself is pretty common, a girl who lived a life in the city goes through a major incident, moves to the countryside and falls in love. I've watched a few stories like that but this has been the absolute best so far. Both the leads are immensely loveable, you watch them fall in love slowly and realistically, while their relationship does have minor hiccups, you can tell that their foundation is strong enough to go through everything together.
Despite the sheer number of characters in the story, I really think I loved all of them. They all had their own stories, all of them were completely human. As a chronic fast forwarder, I thought a slow paced drama would mean I'd have my finger on the arrow key but it was the complete opposite! I wanted it to go at their own pace because of the gorgeous atmosphere created by the writers, you can't help but bask in the scenes and immerse yourself in the characters' emotions.
The only slight cons I had were; I didn't much enjoy the story of Manjun and Hu, those were the only scenes I felt very lukewarm about. Also I can't help but wish we had a few more scenes with our lovely main couple, but that's just wishful thinking, they did the best with what they had. Some of the writing also came off a bit preach-y, with the lines being like lectures to the audience; it worked in some places, didn't in some others.
ACTING
This was the first drama I've watched of both Liu Yifei and Li Xian, and I was just impressed by both of them! Liu Yifei's voice suits this show incredibly well, her soft tone really matched the ambiance provided by the visuals. Li Xian also did a great job as Zhiyao, he especially portrayed his love for LYF's character in a way that you can't help but swoon. All the many supporting actors and actresses did their characters such justice, from the old grandmothers to the four little kids.
MUSIC
The music was just amazing. I can't put into words how much I loved the OSTs for Meet Yourself. Even though I wanted to skip through the ending credit scene, once the song starts you really can't pull yourself away. There was another song - rather folky- that I absolutely adored, great use of music through out the drama. Also the audio added onto the visuals so well, some of the best comedy came from the audio editing team so shout out to them.
REWATCH VALUE
I'm not a re-watcher at all. I hate knowing how something is about to unfold and having to put myself through all that build up all over again. However, I have always had a couple of dramas on my regular rewatch that I must have watched 5 times minimum, and I have a feeling this drama might enter that rotation. I don't think I can put into words how much I absolutely adored this drama, as I finished it I couldn't help but feel like re-watching it immediately.
tl;dr,
Great drama. Slow paced slice-of-life. Romance with the main leads with incredible chemistry. Great writing. Breathtaking scenery. Amazing characters and plot. Strongly recommended to anyone who just wants to sit back, relax and watch a warm show to end your week!

The Best C-Drama
Initially, I was not too excited to watch this drama because I knew that the story would be slow, typical of the slice-of-life genre, plus the number of episodes is also quite a lot.But because it's Lin Xian and Liu Yi Fei, it seems a shame if you don't try to watch it at all. And that's the right decision. The chemistry between ML and FL undoubtedly matches the big names they have. I think this is FL's best chemistry with Lin Xian.
This drama is beautiful apart from the scenery and storyline that warm you. Especially those who are 30 years old and above must relate to the storyline and more or less understand the turmoil felt by Xu Hong Dou (Liu Yi Fei). After working for years and feeling like she has given her best, it turns out that life is still the same and feels like s, he has missed many moments but also doesn't know how to quit the existing routine.
Not to mention the problems faced by other characters in this drama, making us realize that everyone will have their problems. We fight our own battles.
The dialogue throughout the drama is also deep as if we are sitting with Xu Hong Dou, Na Na, and Da Mai or being advised by Granny Xie.
The best Chinese drama production in my opinion so far. Both in terms of the story, the clothes, and the cinematography. The slow phase is even an advantage because we are made to slowly get to know the characters and the village, so it's not like watching a drama but being a real villager LOL
After watching this, I wondered if it's necessary to break from all the routines and go faraway places without a single person we know to really know the purpose of our lives and who we really are, to meet ourselves.

YOU WILL LIKE IT>>>> DON'T HESITATE TO WATCH!!!!!!
story:An amazing storyline with beautiful details.... everything in the story is connected to one or the other. The story makes total sense. There is no confusion in the story or the characters... there might be some confusion in the character's name (for beginners) but toward the end, you could remember almost every single character's name!! wow!!
casts:
Not gonna lie..... every single person has my respect!! Casts have been beautifully chosen and they are perfect for their role(s). There are character developments and beautiful representations of friendships and they have shown the different points of view of people and people's struggles.. everything is shown in an understandable way!!
my points:
Guysssss!!! it's an amazing drama with everything you would like to see. YES.. it is a slow-paced rom-com but you know what? it's worth the wait... trust me.............. I was in an unbelievable state when they both start their relationship!!! they both have excellent chemistry and the understanding between them is just wow¬¬ this drama gave me butterflies in my stomach when there are any sweet/cute scenes.

Great tv for everyone
There are many moments, i don't know what to do, i'm not happy. In these times, i would like to watch a few eps of this show, it's so beautiful, heart-warming, makes me feels alive again.YiFei 's acting is perfect, she is not just a beautiful actress, but also a skilled one. She knows here character well, and know how to make the audience feels how she feels. I have watched some of the others show, like Mulan(2020), which is the most famous one maybe, she was a warrior in this moive, totally different from Xu Hongdou(In Meet yourself). Everytime, she will totally dive into the scence and the stories.
This show also present a beautiul please in China, which is the YunNan provience. It's in the southwest of china, near the border. People lives there are very happy, very different life compare to other places in china. Many of my friends would like to take a tour there after they watch this show.

I want to quit my job and live in a small town now.
What a beautiful drama. 🥺💜 This is my first ever review, normally I'll just leave a rating but I can't help myself to not write a review for this fantastic healing drama. The casts, the plot, the main storyline and sub storyline are all like a warm cup of coffee in a cold starry night. I watched this during my lowest too and even though I'm still having existential crisis, I will definitely keep in mind the lessons I learned from watching this show. Truly, I have no other words 😭. I'm still processing everything after I finished this show and now i don't know what to do post meet yourself. The ending is beautiful. Will definitely rewatch this if I ever feel down again. This is now my favorite drama. 🥺Was this review helpful to you?

Well spent 40 episodes drama
I rarely watch dramas with more than 20 episodes, but somehow it led me to watch “Meet Yourself”.A drama with 40 episodes, but it’s worth it. There was no dragging moments. It is well written, great actors, and sceneries were very detailed.
Whenever I listened to the drama’s OST, it brings me back to which part it was played.
About the love story Dou and Yao , I totally love it. There was jealousy, pride and quarrel but at the right amount, not a challengers in a drama. A healthy relationship.
Dou and Yao’s characters are my favorite, but it doesn’t make the other characters less. Just my personal preference.
P.S.
I can’t unsee Yao’s dance ☺️😍

This is a lovely small-town drama. The relationships between all the characters are so interesting and you can't help but cheer for them. There was truly never a single dull moment in a drama.
Main leads were mature and understanding. Their chemistry was excellent.i loved watching their interactions.
The nature the scenery was amazing.. the cinematography was so good I felt like I was watching a movie.
With an interesting story, complex characters, and beautiful scenery, it was hard for me to wait for the next episode. This show left me with a sense of warmth and content. I would highly recommend it!💕💕

"Persevere through the storm, things will get better"
Meet Yourself was a tranquil 40 episodes of slice of life in a small village where wounded people went to heal. The safest place you could ever travel to or live in, where everyone might not know your name but they were always glad you came. After the loss of her best friend, Xu Hong Dou escapes to a small village to reassess her life. In the place she is renting she is befriended by a writer, a singer, a man who meditates most of the day, a woman who runs the local café, and a man who is working diligently to put the village on the map and attract tourists. Numerous other people come into her life from all ages-from the auntie brigade to the munchkin squad. No one is allowed to hibernate, but all are encouraged to become involved in the village happenings and helping neighbors. Hong Dou is only staying for three months which becomes problematic when she and village problem solver Xie Zhi Yao begin to develop feelings for each other.
I will get what didn’t work for me out of the way. It’s a short list. I could not keep up with all of the characters in this village, especially as it seemed to grow day after day. Business bores me so I tended to check out when there were lengthy and oftentimes redundant trade talk. Singing sessions felt like filler more often than not. As in real life, there were characters I was invested in and those that I was not. That’s about it, which for me is a short list. Lol
I’m a sucker for redemption and personal growth stories and Meet Yourself had plenty of both. Nearly every character experience emotional growth except Yao’s grandmother who was practically perfect in every way. Nature was appreciated even as villagers came to realize that farming was not going to keep the young people from moving away. Traditional crafts and skills were encouraged as Yao continually fought to find markets for the locals’ produce and crafts. Beijing was praised but the drama pushed finding alternate forms of income for the village so that families could stay together and parents didn’t have to leave children behind to work in the larger cities.
No one ever went away hungry. In every episode people were cooking and eating, often in the outdoor kitchen. In this idyllic place, the open kitchen was never plagued by insects, rodents, birds, or any other multi-legged creatures attracted to the smell of food. With the exception of a few animated aunties, everyone spoke in the gentlest of whispers. Problems were solved with a can-do spirit and a little help from their friends.
Friendships old and new had unbreakable bonds of trust, loyalty, and forgiveness. Grief and tears were replaced with happy memories and smiles. There were no surprises and no real conflicts. Meet Yourself was simply 40 episodes of the nice being nice to the nice---the ultimate in soothing slice of life.

PERFECT ASMR show frazzled tired days
ASMR .. if ever a drama was made for relaxing ONLY .. and putting you to sleep .. Have to give it to the team for pulled one off ..It's like muzak (elevator music) ~ won't make your pulse speed up, worry you, plunge you, or even make your brain go into a tizzy. But it's not unpleasant .. just keep it running in the background as you go about doing other things .. you won't miss much or be bothered about missing either, if you pick and choose from any part of the show you soak in some village life ..
But it will be unfair if I don't mention that beginning was dramatic and had SO much pace and movement and going somewhere. The loss of friend and those scenes capturing grief (though too drawn out) were palpable and brilliant. The moving out to the country promised adventure .. and then it becomes a travel mag ;-p
I stuck around because the LEADS are too good looking to turn away from :-D
AND they are talented actors to boot .. BUT no chemistry really .. Li Xian tries so hard .. What a different role from GGS (Go Go Squid).
None of the characters make us worry about them ..
My fingers got sore from FFD ing.
SO MANY people compared it to "Hometown Cha Cha Cha" ~ THANK GAWD I didn't bother watching that either after an episode (when it had released).
I am not a fan of the ML in that .. he has no sizzle factor.
BTW it's NOT the SLOW pace that made me YAWN!! It's basically quite FLAT.
Compare a SLOW PACED RURAL setting show like "I'll Come when the Weather is Good".
That's great DRAMA IMO.
Not a travel brochure ;-p
YUP .. the first ASMR Drama I have watched

Expectation of life summarized in 40 Episodes !!
This drama is the perfect example of how vulnerable humas are !! It does not matter what color of skin or culture you come from, we all experiment a moment in life were feeling defeated is the common goal. This drama tells the story of a successful professional that learned the hard and sad way how life should work. This is how we humans develop relations that would make us feel alive. Understanding how different cultures help you heal when you need it the most makes this drama a gem. An example, I come from a culture that is known for its vibrant colors, the happy we live, how music plays a role and how exited we are to enjoy every aspect. Latin culture for most is that a set of extravagant people that dance to every opportunity we have. The other side of Latin culture that often people do not see is how important family and values are for us and how we respect and always remember to maintain those values.
Understanding how timing works in life and how every new thing we learn in life can make us better is the final message of this drama.
The characters, children, granys, and side characters ,make this drama develop a fond with everyone. A simple drama with a positive message that feels is meant for you in your OWN INDIVIDUAL way.
Do not hesitate and watch this gem !!!

Slow Burning Love
This drama is the same genre as Go Ahead. I might say it's somehow much better because it deals with more adult matters, and how the relationship of the main leads are very respectful and mature. The main leads have a very strong chemistry. Li Xian is so adorable, the way he looks at the FL, you can really see love! I wasn't really his fan before, even though I liked Go Go Squid, I watched it mainly because of Yang Zi. But this drama made me his fan!
Crystal Liu, she's so beautiful and so calming. I also wasn't her fan before, I watched her in Once Upon a Time (with Yang Yang). That movie made me cringe even though I love Ten Miles of Peach Blossom. Anyway, I love her in this drama.
The reason for not giving a 10 is because the side characters storyline. Some of them are okay, but some I really don't care about (like the singer, the guy who meditated a lot, the spoiled girl who's Dad has a supermarket, the novelist, the waitress - wait aren't they all of them hahaha). I understand the side characters storyline are important to bring the drama to intertwine together. And I did watch them all (fast forwarding the singer and the meditate guy).
They have lots of very catchy beautiful songs, some which I put in my Spotify playlist.
Overall a beautiful drama to watch and I will wholeheartedly recommend this (and recommend you to just fast forward the sideline stories you're not interested on haha).
