The Eternal Fragrance

千香 ‧ Drama ‧ 2026

There are many differences between the novel and the drama. However, most of what happened up to episode 10 did occur in the novel. So it will be fun for me to answer any curious mind 😉

I will only answer anything you want with Yes, No, or Maybe about what happens in the novel. Give me your wildest theory!

any way you can give me a quick rundown of the "sanctions" ...? like groups I guess, big and small.

I'm confused bout the setting basically. I know they're at the Academy. Then there's a sanctuary, different states at odds with each other, etc. I always have a hard time grasping all the ones with Chinese names even as translations, if that makes sense.

Sure, So there are changes within the Drama compare to the novel. But there are only a few important factions.

Wuyue Court - Strongest Immortal Sect where Xiuyuan and Lifei end up
There 3 Peak or schools within Wuyue Court: Fuyun Peak, Yaoguang Peak, and Zhuiyu Peak
Xingzheng Hall - Immortal Sect backing Yue State - Ji Tongzhou end up here
Wanxian Sect - Was basically considered an unorthodox sect compared to the first 2 mention - Baili Ge Lin ended up here.
Longming Sanctuary - Another sect that rose to prominence, acting as an antagonist to Xingzheng Hall and Yue Kingdom

The rest are kind of irrelevant. Hope this helps

I literally just started this yesterday so im still a little bit confused but thank you for this. I will come back to this later once I get deeper into it.

one question though...

so what is the land they're on called, Yue? Im on ep 7 where they start training at the academy. Are the main characters from different lands? I'm guessing all the factions you mentioned above are still within the same state/country, just different, almost political, affiliations... like ik our ML is from a no longer existing "city" right? where the friends baili ge Lin are from also.

not like a typical Xianxia where there's a million different heaven earth immortal lands etc. (im guessing they will go deeper into the demon aspect of the story soon but im not there yet).

LOL so NOT just one question haha thanks

also if it'll be more clearly explained later on pls lmk also.

So let me be clear: the novel makes this distinction; I don't know how the drama will. This story is not like your typical one with multiple worlds. The main location was just called Central Land, it probably just China tbh... and there was the Eastern Sea as a location and the outerworld ( Just outside of Central Land basically).

Yes, all the immortal factions exist within Central Land. They actually prefer themself as the Central Land Immortal in the novel. Also, note I don't remember if it was mentioned in the drama, but those who do not possess spirit roots and train to a certain level cannot see places with high spiritual energy; i.e., immortal faction places usually have high spiritual energy.

There are probably many different kingdoms, like how the Warring States period of China had many kingdoms

Yue is just a kingdom within the central land

The Academy is somewhere in the central land and does not belong to the Yue Kingdom.

Yeah okay im confused because they are VERY vague with everything. but again, I feel like almost every costume drama is like that 😅

thank you for explaining! hopefully watching more will help me clarify some things :)

So what is going on here? Were they lovers in the past? He is that lord Yecha and she is the divine tree or what?

Maybe they deviated greatly for this; they are connected in the novel. But the ML is suffering from a curse that makes him so drawn to the FL. And not just him, his entire clan suffers from this curse

I say maybe because the setup is similar between the novel and the drama, but it wasn't really a past life in the novel. But it seems like the drama is adapting it that way.

So that one female senior from Wuyue court who knows LXY past and real identity? Did she having important role on the novel?

Yes, Yue Cailing exists; however, her role has largely changed in the drama compared to the novel. Very few people know LXY's real identity.

She is just a minor character in the novel; funny enough, she never liked LXY and, at times, held a grudge against him.

So did you think she will be LXY ally or will have other motive? Because from drama we only get glimpses of she's like Yecha sub-ordinate or something like that. Right now after his brother died, there's no one who actually on LXY side, kinda feel bad for him.

She is most likely an ally, yeah, that's all on the drama scriptwriter 😂 they're really making him bleed and depressed. Probably making you sympathize with him more, he was more arrogant in the novel, for good reason; he was a prodigy.

Will JLF do some chasing in the future, or will LXY continue to chase JLF like a creepy and desperate stalker for the rest of the story?

CasualCDfan:

In the novel, yes, funny enough, the novel kinda takes the opposite of the drama. In the novel's early part, JLF actually questions her relationship with LXY a lot. Mainly, does he have feelings for me or not? As well as do I care that much about him?

Good to note that the novel, while xianxia, is also a coming-of-age story; the start is at 11 for JLF and 12 for LXY, and when they are in the wuyue court, they are 16-17-ish. Near the end of the novel, they are a few years older.

I would say it is 65-70% similar to the novel; most of the events, characters, and things happen as they do. Some of the context presented in the drama differs from that in the novel.

Like LXY, the brother died before the novel begins, so he doesn't do all the things he did in the drama. Which, honestly, isn't a terrible change. Cause his brother was, like, just a random name at best in the novel 😅... but we get the drama version of LXY, with that change in his backstory.

So when does JLF forgive him and start doing the chasing? How long until that happens?
