The Eternal Fragrance (2026) Review
I’ve only watched 6 episodes, yet I’m already completely hooked. Two episodes a day doesn’t feel enough for me anymore. Anyway, Song Weilong was only 24 during filming, and the way he carried such a mature role at such a young age genuinely impressed me.I’ve always loved the enemy-to-lovers trope, but what makes this even more interesting for me is how their relationship is slowly shifting into friendship before becoming lovers. Watching their true personalities gradually unfold makes the drama even more engaging. I’m extremely curious about the upcoming episodes.
My rating is definitely 10/10.
I highly recommend this drama to everyone. The mix of magic, cultivation, enemy-to-friends, friends-to-lovers, and so many hilarious moments makes the drama feel incredibly lively and entertaining

The Plot Are Interesting
After watching the first six episodes of The Eternal Fragrance, I’m really enjoying it so far. The story starts at a steady pace as it builds the fantasy world and introduces the characters, but it becomes more engaging with each episode as the mysteries begin to unfold. Ju Jingyi and Song Weilong have wonderful chemistry, and their interactions feel natural, making the slow-burn romance enjoyable to watch. Song Weilong brings a calm, charismatic presence to his role, while Ju Jingyi gives a charming and expressive performance that fits her character well. The drama is visually stunning, with beautiful costumes, impressive cinematography, and a lovely soundtrack that enhances the emotional moments. Although the plot is still laying the foundation and hasn’t revealed all of its major conflicts yet, the first six episodes have done a great job of keeping me interested, and I’m excited to see how the story develops. Was this review helpful to you?

Finally......
I was intrigued by the way the production platform kept postponing this drama series. And then without much advertising promotion it is now being aired. Anyway, I'm glad the waiting was over.I'm finding this drama series very interesting and I am happy to say I'm hooked. The story is much better than the other wuxia series I have watched. The casts are great and I like the soundtrack. Song Weilong and Ju Jungyi have a nice chemistry and their visuals are great. Nothing can compare to them.

The Eternal Fragrance (2026) — Review
I have been waiting for this drama to air for what feels like an eternity, and FINALLY, it is here! Even though it has only just started airing, I am already completely obsessed and hooked. It has exceeded all of my expectations so far!The visual aesthetics and production quality are absolutely top tier. From the breathtaking costumes and stunning locations to the gorgeous CGI, every scene feels rich, immersive, and beautifully crafted. Song Wei Long and Ju Jing Yi have incredible chemistry, and they look absolutely stunning together on screen. Every moment they share is captivating and leaves me wanting more.
The supporting cast also deserves praise. Every cast member delivers a strong performance, bringing depth, energy, and emotion to their characters. Together, they make every episode engaging and enjoyable to watch.
After the first four episodes, I am completely invested. The story has done an excellent job of introducing its world, characters, and central conflict while building excitement for what's to come. The romance is developing beautifully, and the fantasy elements make the story even more compelling. Based on what I've seen so far, this drama has all the makings of something truly special. I can't wait to see how the story unfolds in the coming episodes and experience all the twists, emotional moments, and character growth along the way.
10/10 so far.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! If you enjoy beautifully crafted wuxia-xianxia fantasy romances with breathtaking visuals, compelling storytelling, strong lead chemistry, and outstanding production quality, this drama is definitely a MUST-WATCH.
To Be Continued...
(I will definitely write a more detailed review once the drama finishes airing.)

Could have been more better, expected alot
The Eternal Fragrance feels like it's lacking in many areas, partly because of the choppy editing and the fact that it's a drama that was completed around three years ago, making some aspects feel dated. While ju jingyi is doing okay with her acting, there's still room for improvement, especially when it comes to delivering more emotional depth and natural expressions. The cultivation genre itself has become quite repetitive, and this drama follows many familiar tropes, making it feel generic rather than refreshing. On top of that, its visual aesthetics and overall fantasy vibe are very reminiscent of, which makes it harder for it to establish a unique identity. Was this review helpful to you?
Disjointed
The pacing and execution seem off in the first few episodes of this series. While energetic and likable, the FL is something of a scam artist. She looks like a 14-year-old and those around her call her “child.” I think she IS supposed to be a child at the outset, at least according to the novel on which this series is based (I’m not sure about this). But it’s hard to take her seriously, at this point, because she gasps, shrieks, and overacts whenever anything unexpected happens. Other characters posture, simper, and exaggerate as well. The CGI is jerky, disjointed, and hard to follow, and the nine-tailed fox is especially crude. He looks like someone threw red paint on him. I should note that he changes sizes and appearance throughout the drama, even becoming human at one point.
The ML is surly and unfriendly and keeps trying to kill the FL (he’s actually after the nine-tailed fox), while she keeps giving him a pass. For all these reasons, I don’t have a lot of hope for this series. But I’ve learned not to judge based on first impressions–so we’ll see.
Further reports to come.
********************
Episodes 5 thru 8. There are still problems with the plot, the execution and the characterization in these episodes. Overweight characters are either evil or function as comic relief.
The background is often way too blurry, sometimes I can’t tell a tree from a bush. The “exams” don’t make a whole lot of sense. What’s being tested–other than martial arts?
One of the “exams” consists of a life-sized game of Go, but the rules aren’t explained. Everyone just suddenly finds him- or herself on a huge game board. The female lead is imbued with a “fragrance” that drives the ML crazy. He doesn’t seem to know whether he wants to kill her, marry her, or bite her neck.
This series certainly isn’t boring, but it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense either. Shanhua was hanging by a thread in Episode 1, on the edge of death. And now it’s days, if not weeks, later. Apparently he’s still hanging.
In Episode 8, the romance is front and center. Once again, the ML puts his life on the line to save the FL. Is this the sixth time? Or the seventh?
Further reports to come.
***********************
Episodes 9 through 16. The background is less blurry, and the story has improved somewhat. I wish I could say the same for the ML. This dude is still a pit of negativity with no hobbies, no interests, and no friends. Every once in awhile, his irises turn amber which is a sign to the viewers that he’s experiencing demonic (lascivious) impulses. Otherwise we’d have to depend on his acting to clue us in--which would be a real shame because he doesn’t do nuance well.
He’s pretty cute, though, so he gets away with it.
Speaking of getting away with it, our FL has a few issues of her own. When it’s time for the various sects to select their future disciples, on what basis do they decide her fate? Is it her grade point average? Her level of cultivation? The guys who do the choosing apparently take two things into consideration. First, they all think she’s pretty cute. But the number one reason is–she can cook! Of course she can--especially radishes.
Episodes 10 to 20
Ninety percent of this series seems to be devoted to two issues: 1) the fact that so many characters, both major and minor, are in love with someone who doesn’t love them back–and we all know what a tragedy that can be, and 2) the ongoing conflict between humans and demons, the latter often appearing as hairy monsters with bad wigs in makeshift Halloween costumes. The handsome and impressive actor, Chen Zheyuan, appears in Episodes 21 and 22–playing the role of an evil baddy.
When the two male directors run out of ideas, they just recycle a previous scene in which the FL heaps contempt on the ML–either for something he didn’t in fact actually do or for “following her around,” trying to save her life.
However, the ML begins to change a bit in these last episodes. He now seems to be something of a team player. Previously, the ML and the SML got along like two wasps in a jam jar, but now the ML is actually working alongside the SML to defeat the enemy.
I was pleased to see the “cloud whale” again, the gargantuan fish swimming in the air who appeared in Love Between Fairy and Devil. The whale has been streamlined and improved for modern audiences.

Here are my thoughts on this drama so far.As a massive heroine-stan, this show has been an absolute blast to watch! Even though it’s not labeled as a typical "female-centric" drama, the female lead’s actions, words, and choices give off major boss-lady energy. It completely breaks away from those tired old Xianxia tropes. She is incredibly realistic, completely immune to guilt-trips and gaslighting, and has rock-solid morals. She knows how to show gratitude but also stands firmly for justice. Honestly, it’s been ages since we’ve had a Xianxia female lead with this level of clarity and sanity. I don't mean to shade other Xianxia heroines, but Jiang Lifei is just built different. She doesn't just instantly forgive the male lead just because he "had his reasons" or played the pity card. A betrayal is a betrayal, a lie is a lie, and trust isn't something you just hand back easily. This is literally how a normal person would react! Like, sure, she gets that he wants to save his older brother, but since when does that give him the right to sacrifice an innocent person’s (Riyan's) life in a "one life for another" trade? Especially when Riyan actually saved their lives before. That's just fundamentally wrong.
Another thing I absolutely love about her is that she actually has a mouth and uses it! Seriously, in most dramas, the leads refuse to communicate, causing endless misunderstandings that make the audience lose their minds. But whenever Lifei has an issue, she confronts people directly to get things straight. She’s straightforward, doesn’t play mind games, and claps back on the spot. No internal conflict, no self-blame—if something is unfair, she will call it out right then and there. Her character writing is just top-tier. Every line out of her mouth is an absolute mic-drop quote:
"I know you want to save your family, your brother. And while I do sympathize with you, I am not going to help you. Everyone is busy; handle your own business yourself."
"Compensate me? If I had actually been killed by you, what were you going to do—cry at my grave?"
I am so obsessed with Jiang Lifei!!! Ju Jingyi completely brought this character to life. Honestly, she has so many more green flags, but I’ll talk about them as I keep watching. Haha! 😁

A Familiar Xianxia That Was Easy to Walk Away From
This is a partial review covering episodes 1–18 only.I've been watching Chinese dramas for a really, really long time, and I've probably seen more than the average viewer. They've been a favorite pastime of mine and have helped me through some very stressful periods in my life. The downside is that, after a while, many dramas start to feel familiar, so the bar for what truly stands out becomes much higher. That's what happened with this one.
For me, it's an okay watch. It doesn't bring much that feels new and shares many similarities not only with Beauty of Resilience but with countless other xianxia dramas. It follows many of the genre's familiar themes—conflicts between immortals and demons, fated or forbidden romances, hidden identities, tribulations, misunderstandings, and the larger struggles that often shape these stories.
None of those elements are a problem on their own; they're actually the kinds of stories I usually enjoy. But this drama doesn't present them in a way that feels fresh or memorable to me, so I haven't really connected with it. I don't think it's a bad drama by any means. It just feels too familiar, and "just okay" isn't enough for me when there are so many other dramas I can spend my time watching.
