CasualCDfan:

How layered is LXY as a character in the novel compared to the drama? He feels so one-dimensional in the drama.

He is pretty one-dimensional in the novel as well. His core story and character growth revolve around being a Yesha and dealing with the curse placed on him. He is a cultivation prodigy, and that talent comes with a certain arrogance. Although it implies he was a prodigy because he was a Yesha, Most of his actions throughout the novel are either meant to protect Lifei or done for her sake.

In that sense, he is not really the main character of the novel. Lifei is the true protagonist. The drama was adapted to shift more focus to LXY. Since he is now a Demon Lord in the drama adaptation, and with the event still unfolding as in the novel, I wonder how the reveal of Lifei's Master book will be handled.

This here is my opinion: with all the flashbacks to Demon Lord and "Fairy Lifei", I hope it's not some generic love story between a devil and a fairy. It would be too boring for me.

Did the FL and the SML kiss in the novel? If they did, what was the context? Was it forced?

Yes, it did happen; it happened shortly after the illusion that he faced in the drama. So at that time the whole gang was on the mission together when they faced the demon that placed everyone under the illusion. Most of what happens in the drama for that event happens in the novel.

Things specific to the novel that did happen. LXY basically confessed to JLF, and from that point onward in the novel, they were a "couple," without the back-and-forth of misunderstandings in the drama. JLF was unaware that the SML basically lives an entire life as her husband in the illusion, which deeply impacted her, as she lost everything in that illusion. I need to emphasize that it wasn't a simple illusion; in SML's mind, he really lived his entire life with JLF until she died and his kingdom came to ruin. This became his obsession to prevent all of this by getting stronger.

almost everyone in the group JLF included told him and advised him that it was only an illusion, it wasn't real. But none of them know what he went through as he never told them. This moment really marked the descent into darkness for SML. There was another point in time outside his control that pushed him even further. mainly the Yue Kingdom and Xuan Shan Zi actions.

But the kiss, it was after the mission that they were departing, SML just kissed JLF by surprise, and she was shocked by this. As she was not expecting it ( mind you, at this point, everyone, including the SML, knows that LXY and JLF are a couple).

But after that, JLF realized that the friendship she had with SML was lost and that they were no longer friends, and she pretty much avoided contacting him.

Thanks for your insight, now I start reading the novel and from the beginning it's already feel smooth and hilarious comparing with the drama. LXY calling XBC as big brother when they first meet is my favorite 🤣 they really nerfed XBC, the novel version slightly better. The drama even left the small detail like how XBC couldn't eat meat and always vomit when she's try it, is that because she's divine tree? Because its totally make sense and keep the mysterious of her origin. Riyan interaction also more interesting, because I still bummed when you says he's one of favourite character but in the drama they rarely shows him. The drama really push agenda LXY as the one who always protecting XBC, while the novel she's basically stand on her ground most of the time even stand up for LXY when he got bullied at start.

For sure ! but even as you read the novel, you can see why some of the thing in the novel couldnt be adapted into a drama format... I dont think a male lead would want the same role as LXY in the novel compare to the drama. Maybe a less well known or upcoming male actor. But someone like SWL wouldnt want role of LXY in the novel.
