Unexpectedly Beautiful ❤️

I've always been a go to k-drama watcher, for me they produce always the best dramas out there, but sometimes i also watch c-drama when it's over hyped or the actors and actresses are so popular.

It's my first time trying to watch a drama without any expectations or any knowledge about the plot and the cast, and oh boy it surprised me, i never thought that c-drama could produce a show like this, and i can say it is on par with those popular k-dramas out there, and for me i can say that it even exceeded those.

Life is a journey with full of challenges, it can be everyday, or sometimes. But the lesson you will get on this drama is, even though it is really dark and you feel like there is no hope, there will always be a light that will come after the darkness, it may be in a form of someone, or something but believe in it it will come.

I love this drama so much it is truly worth the watch, a slow burn for the ages indeed,

Bai Jing Ting and Zhang Ruonan, truly delivered with the acting, im a new fan 🫶. Bye bye Wen Yifan and Sang Yan, i will miss TFF so much. 🍃❄️

Absolutely amazing

How do I even begin to describe how much I loved this drama. Everything was perfection. I can’t think of a single thing I would change. It had just the right amount of everything you need for a perfect show.
The actor’s chemistry was 🔥🔥🔥. The secondary cast was 😍! The story was beautiful. The music was very good! The production was beautiful & flawless.
I never write reviews and I couldn’t watch this show and not leave some kind of admiration for it.
My husband who doesn’t really care for my dramas watched some of it. I know y’all don’t know my husband or me, but that’s saying a lot 😂😂 I wish I could watch it again for the first time. It’s that good.

Don’t miss watching this gem!

From beginning to end, this is a great drama! It’s a dramatically told love story than spans several years of love found, then lost and later rekindled. After watching literally hundreds of dramas over the years, I put this drama in the league with the 10 best I have ever seen. the acting is stellar, the love they have for each other is palpable and you feel it. The male lead is outstanding and sincerely expresses his love and devotion to this girl he loves so deeply. The female lead shows raw emotion in her deeply troubled unfortunate life and her low self esteem and feelings of inadequacy, leading her to feel she doesn’t deserve such heartfelt love. It really is a superb drama, so don’t miss it.

"More Than Just a Sequel — The First Frost Stands on Its Own"

I first came across this drama through Instagram reels, and when I was in the right mood, I finally decided to watch it. One of the comments mentioned that it was available on YouTube, so I searched for it and found a 10-episode drama titled The First Frost. I watched it till the end, only to realize that it wasn’t actually the one I had been looking for. Instead, I had just finished Reset—which, to my surprise, turned out to be an incredible drama as well. That was the moment I started to take notice of Bai Jingting. Intrigued by his performance, I searched for more of his dramas and eventually found the real The First Frost that I had initially wanted to watch.

What can I say? This drama was absolutely worth it. Despite being a slow-burn romance, I found myself completely hooked, episode after episode. The storytelling and character development were beautifully executed, drawing me into their world effortlessly. The actors delivered outstanding performances, making every moment feel authentic and emotionally resonant.

After watching, I explored other reviews and noticed a mix of opinions. Some viewers felt the drama was overhyped, possibly because it’s a sequel to HL, while others were disappointed with the change in cast. However, from my point of view, The First Frost stands strong on its own. While it shares a similar coming-of-age setting—depicting high school life and its aftermath—its storyline remains unique and engaging. Interestingly, I didn’t even realize at first that it was connected to HL. Yet, even after knowing that, I still believe that this drama holds its own value and is not solely dependent on the popularity of HL.

As for the cast change, I personally didn’t find it to be a major issue. The actors in The First Frost portrayed their characters remarkably well, bringing depth and sincerity to their roles. Overall, I genuinely believe this drama is worth watching, whether or not you’ve seen HL. It’s an emotionally rich and well-crafted story that leaves a lasting impression.

I’m a Kdrama lover, but TFF is one of the top 10 list in my most dramas i love.

Overall is the best drama for 2025 for me. It’s just so addictive to watch, usually i don’t like ongoing dramas because I’m impatience to wait every weekends, but this every day they give episodes daily but feels like waiting every weekends. Love is not always give butterflies to your stomach , it also encounter hard ship.

The First Frost: A Slow Burn That Doesn't Fully Ignite

The First Frost has been a highly anticipated show that I’ve been waiting to release ever since I finished Hidden Love. At first, I was bummed that Victor Ma wasn’t playing Sang Yan, but I’m actually really glad Bai Jingting landed the role. This drama is definitely a slow burn between the leads, with their love rekindling ever so slowly as life pushes Sang Yan and Wen Yifan together.

The First Frost touches on sensitive themes that are typically not mentioned in Chinese media, and I think its representation was well done in the way the characters react to the world around them. The OSTs were beautifully crafted and purposefully included throughout the scenes. Bai Jingting absolutely nailed his role with his facial expressions—I honestly don’t think anyone could have done a better job. He truly embodies the character Sang Yan was meant to be. Zhang Ruonan was good for the most part, but I found her a bit bland, and I think her acting could have been better.

To be honest, I found the chemistry a bit forced, and their relationship lacked depth. There is absolutely no context as to why Sang Yan has obsessed over Wen Yifan for years, even to the point of traveling to another city just to catch a glimpse of her. That is weird, and Sang Yan doesn’t really have much of a personality besides "I love Wen Yifan." She has already pushed him away multiple times due to her trauma and circumstances, and I think Sang Yan should have packed his bags a long time ago.

I did enjoy the appearances of Yuan Ye as Mu Chengyun and Zhai Xiaowen as Xiang Liang—they were refreshing additions to the show. I also would have liked to see more of Duan Jiaxu and Sang Zhi. In Hidden Love, they seemed to have a very close relationship with Sang Yan, but they were only sparsely mentioned in The First Frost.

Overall, it’s a good show, and I rate it 7.5/10.

a slow burn that lingers forever

I started this drama because it was written by the amazing Zhu Yi. As expected, she continues to raise the bar, crafting male leads so gentle and loving that it’s evident they were written by a woman. Much like "Hidden Love" and "When I Fly Towards You", the characters in this drama are beautifully written making them impossible not to adore.

Sang Yan’s unwavering love for Wen Yifan, his quiet, selfless nature, and his willingness to give without expecting anything in return are utterly captivating.

This drama warms your heart and keeps you up at night with a strange yet lovely feeling. It’s incredibly comforting—just like the other two dramas I mentioned. This kind of chemistry is exactly what I look for in a drama.

If you liked any of Zhu Yi's other works, then this is definitely for you!

This drama made me cry and I rarely do. I experienced sa before and it is so haunting. I love how it is captured and the ugly shadow it casts over the victim's behavioural patterns. Wen yifan deserves the world 💕
I know sang yan is suffering, but I can't bring myself to reset wen yifan for what she did that is why I love their match so much bc he gets her and is gentle. I am now at ep25 and I am waiting for their happy ending 😭😭😭

His job is just Yifan

My biggest gripe with this show is how ML has absolutely no motivations, goals or personality aside from Wen Yifan. All his hobbies, jobs and interactions are motivated only by FL and getting close to her. He doesn’t seem to care about this family, even lies to Yifan at the beginning saying it’s them who don’t care about him. It’s very sad. And since it’s a modern drama it’s also rather concerning. If he wasn’t considered handsome (I think he’s ok looking but nothing too crazy), he would be called out for being a stalker. But since Yifan likes him, he gets a pass.

I can very easily see the show turning into a triller or horror if she didn’t like him. Maybe it would be more exciting then.

I like Wen Yifan and her backstory. Main actress did a good job in conveying her awkward and stoic personality. Sometimes her awkwardness made it hard to see any chemistry between the leads though. It was rather hard to watch them close when her eyes are shifting. I’ve only ever seen her in Everyone Wants to Meet You but she plays almost the same way there so maybe it’s just her?

First kiss, aka ML kissing FL while she’s sleepwalking is very concerning. Like please, you could have very easily avoided her lips. But it wouldn’t be a straight cdrama without some forced physical contact/borderline harassment presented as romantic.

Yifan’s relationship with her family was straight up heartbreaking, so kudos for trying to portraying such a difficult topic. It’s only a shame that her issues with physical contact never manifested into her relationship with Song Yan. He’s just this special I guess.

I really wish cdramas would stop putting dogs into shows, just to have them dying for some cheap emotional trauma to the characters that will be resolved almost immediately.

2FL was very cute but her plot was so underdeveloped, it’s a missed opportunity. I also liked the grandpa, I think he was very charming. And the music is pleasant enough, I even saved once track for my playlist!

Was ML paid extra for being wet? I swear he’s either sweating or out from shower every second episode. That would make a good drinking game while binge watching.
The poor cast forced to constantly drink all these yogurts and strawberry beer while eating Pizza Hut and fruit jellies, sponsors could be less obvious.

Overall you get what you would expect from a straight romance drama. It’s not bad, it’s not brilliant. Has some strong sides (FL’s backstory and her struggles of self acceptance and topic of sexual harassment) and some very weak ones (ML’s obsessive behavior and no personality outside of FL). It’s good enough for a background noise and Chinese language immersion.

Pure garbage and nothing compared to Hidden love

I’m not sure where to begin, but the headline says it all. I can’t understand how people are even comparing this mess to Hidden Love. Sang Yan’s character takes a complete 180—he turns into a borderline stalker, lies about his parents not caring about him, and his entire personality revolves around the FL. The sleepwalking kisses, repeated flashbacks, and awkward acting, paired with subpar music, made it impossible for me to sit through more than a few episodes. The story dragged on endlessly. Honestly, the only redeeming part might be the second ML and FL’s storyline and acting.

Worth the wait! One of the best dramas I’ve had so far.

This C-drama is simply heartwarming and easy to watch. The kind of storyline that tugs one’s heartstrings and that I look for during after work to relieve the stress during the day. Both Bai Jingting and Zhang Ruonan portrayed Sang Yan and Wen Yifan really well and literally gave life to the characters. The novels written by Zhu Yi always hit the spot and never disappoints.

You won’t regret watching this!

This is one of the best modern dramas.
As a fan of novel, Bai Jing Ting and Zhang Ruo Nan are amazing to bring the characters alive. Their on screen chemistry is also fire.
Just because it’s Sang Yan’s story, you won’t get the same vibe of HL which is sunshine and fluffy, it’s more like the vibe of slowly healing from sad, gloomy trauma of fl and longing of ml.
As for fans of vibrant, strong willed Fl, you will be a little disappointed because this FL is timid and shy, a little detach, a little gloomy because she has fear of rejection, avoidant, thinks she is unworthy of love and doesn’t deserve good things due to abandonment from her mother, emotional abuse from her relatives, suffered SA every place she went/stay and malicious rumors from her school, work place. So you need a little patience to see her opening up to ml, trying herself to come out of shell to believe in love and to be with ml. (She was distancing herself from ml as he is the best thing ever happened to her and she didn’t believe she deserves ml.)
ML is greenest forest ever. He never forced FL to come to him. He tried to understand her and respected every decision she made even tho it breaks him. He is just waiting patiently and longing silently for her. He is the medicine for fl.
I am loving the story by far.
And the scenes are OMG…. The diary like story telling, episode titles, ml’s pov at the end of every episode are amazing.
The storytelling is superb. It’s so well executed.
