cute short drama
The storyline wasn't complicated. It's basically a love story between the Princess and her new guard. Their story was nice and they have good chemistry. There are also some political schemes but it's also not complicated. The costumes was really good too. All episodes combined is 1 hour long. It's perfect if you want to watch something short.
It seems like a low budget production, but they definitely make the best out of it.
Overall, not the best drama ever. But it's still worth the time.

Did It All In a Nanosecond
Even with the low production value, and 2 minutes per episode, this conveyed the essence of a whole historical drama in a nutshell quite well. It even managed to show some erotic moments and censored relationships quite convincingly. This just proves you don't need 40-50 episodes with a bunch of side characters and dragged out angsty shit to portray a good plot. Big budget productions = take notice. LMFAO!
I'd actually like to see this in a full length version, since I feel like it would have no unnecessary parts.

Microdrama rule #1: Cast chemistry this hot deserves a real budget.
I picked up this drama because I saw the two leads in another microdrama — and unlike most pairings that fizzle out once the script forgets what it’s doing, these two actually had spark. So naturally, I chased them into Zhang Gong Zhu Zai Shang, and thank the drama gods, it delivered. No bait-and-switch, no wasted potential — just consistent romantic tension that knew when to smolder and when to shut up and kiss already. The setup flips the Dong Lan Xue dynamic: Qi Xia Xia is the royal this time, and Jin Chao is the quiet, dutiful guard who could kill someone with a hairpin if they blinked the wrong way. It’s not groundbreaking, but the reversal works. Their dynamic actually feels earned — there’s push and pull, power imbalance, and enough “forbidden but not really” glances to keep me invested without rolling my eyes every five seconds. Plus, Jin Chao’s stoic loyalty with just a hint of barely-contained emotion? Yes, thank you, more of that.
It’s a quick watch, and surprisingly, the palace intrigue doesn’t feel like filler. There’s scheming, poisonings, framed crimes — you know, the essentials — but it moves fast and doesn’t pretend it’s Nirvana in Fire. And honestly, that’s fine. This drama knows what it is: a short-form ride with pretty people, political tension, and actual pacing.
Still, I couldn’t help but think — with a real budget and a major TV time-slot, this could’ve hit harder. Some plot threads deserved more than five minutes of runtime before getting resolved by monologue or offscreen arrest. But even with its limits, it never lost sight of the core: Qi Xia Xia and Jin Chao. That pairing carried everything, and I’m glad it didn’t disappoint. Not all microdramas get that right — this one did.

Lighthearted princess and the bodyguard tale with good antagonist arc
I liked Dong Lan Xue a lot so I was delighted to know that Qi Xia Xia and Jin Chao have another collaboration. I literally just finished watching this drama and yes, I liked it but not as much as Dong Lan Xue.What I liked:
1. Main characters - I liked that FL was sharp observer - she's not a spoilt princess. ML was good at his undercover mission.
2. Romance - Slow and steady. There was nice push & pull moment but it's missing emotional connection.
3. Styling - I liked the Turkish princess and her maid's outfits. Very pretty. Of course FL's outfits were beautiful too.
4. Antagonist arc - I enjoyed it despite it being predictable.
5. Supporting characters - I liked the other guard (ML's work rival) and the emperor.
6. Length - Fast-paced drama under 60 minutes.
What I disliked:
1. Storytelling - Overall it's a fine story but I felt like it's missing intensity. So this story does not standout in a sea of microdramas set in historical China.
Favourite scene
When ML saved FL from antagonist's attack

But the story was insufficient. For example, while he could defend himself with his sword and cut off the attack with his sword, it seems to me that the person did not turn his back and was seriously injured. There could have been a little more action in this episode. It has been taken for granted. To make abbreviations. More precisely, it was as if it was a series translated for actor training. I didn't get the emotional intensity either. I was not excited. I wasn't worried. There was no feeling. I just watched. I didn't want to give a much lower grade either. Only for young players.

perfeito
