a perfect serie that lighten your mood
this serie is good for lighting your mood up and is entertaining asfid say this is giving me cherry magic vibes, light ,comedy and fun with an amazing plot
the plot of this serie is perfect i give it 10/10, my only complaint is the overreactions of Kota, most of the time it felt too much, while i know that there is an overreactions too in cherry magic but the difference is that it felt natural there while in this show it felt so over the top, but at some point i got used to it, mostly because i coudnt turn this serie down because of the great plot and Naoya.
im so in love with Naoya character he kinda remind me of kurosawa, such a gentleman all the time and so in love and loyal to the other ML, i love guys who give it their all, he is not even afraid of Kota's bad luck, not only he helps out but doesnt care if the bad luck effect his good luck. a perfect boyfriend and husband material
not just that but also a king of consent omg, he is like "im not going to force a kiss on you thats assault" and that he will wait until he is ready, yesss, what more someone can ask for? such a green flag
my only wish that we get a kiss in the end ,like how we got one at the start but anyway thats not a big deal at all, overall i really did enjoy this so muchhhhhh, i highly recommend it!!!!

Overall sweet and watchable, but some big flaws
The story is about the unlucky Kota and lucky Naoya, both seniors at a university, perhaps majoring in psychology. Many small disasters are shown to plague poor Kota in the beginning, and he decides to hang around with the always-lucky Naoya for a cure. Naoya misunderstands Kota's reason for approaching him, and the two start to "date", although they don't go public nor do they have any sexual activity, even proper kissing. The relationship ends not very far from where it started actually, but the characters more open and trusting of each other.Cons:
1. The shyness of Kota was a pain after a while. For God's sake, all that drama just for a kiss?! They do say that he has never been kissed before, which might be the explanation for the reluctance, but it is still annoying.
2. That weird and unnecessary sub-plot with the hostage taker.
3. Friends not dealt with properly, perhaps because of the shortness of the series (8 episodes x 25 min).
4. Roka's overacting a bit cringey.
5. Relationship doesn't move much, in spite of all sorts of inner revelations they both have. At the end, Roka is still acting frightened + secretly horny, even when he is in the same bed as his professed love.
6. Too much time wasted on flash-backs. But the FF button exists for that.
Pros:
1. Naoya was very charming, especially when he smiles. He was frank about his lust.
2. No toxic exes, temporary breakups, and long drawn-out misunderstandings that are actually resolvable with a short talk.
3. No hint of them living in a society with homophobia. Some of Roka's behavior might stem from internal homophobia, but that was not a given.
4. The psychology lectures were very interesting. Now I want to read the professor's books!
5. The complexity of the concepts of lucky and unlucky handled well. We are reminded how unlucky things can sometimes have very lucky effects also.
6. Pretty much everyone was good-looking.

Funny and cute
Kouta was just sooo funny man all his thoughts he wud think out loud were hilarious and the unlucky things he went through were just so ridiculously funny.Nayao was so cute too he was patient and caring but only a dream for someone to actually exist like that. It wasnt really cringey more funny and cute and no like inappropriate scenes almost friendly type of drama.
Its short and enough for their story.
Definitely a drama not of a common production mainly due to koutas acting the Drama was 90% better.

Not so unlucky, because it made him find love
I liked this drama a lot, but i would have given it a 10/10 if they didn't use the overacting to make it funny. It was a fun and very cute story. The visuals were great and the music was good.
Great acting by all the actors, but i didn't like the overacting of Sota Ryosuke when someting had to be funny. I would have liked it a lot more if he would have just used normal expressions. But i don't think dat was his fault, it was probably the idea of the director, i see this more in Japanese drama's when they want to make it funny.
The chemistry and dynamics between the mains was great! It had only one kiss and it was a one sided lip to lip kiss, but it was sweet.

Lovable Characters are the Strength of this Bromance
It's a simple plot but the characters are likable and engaging. Naoya (Sato Yusuke) plays a strong lead as a guy who has no baggage about liking guys --- Kota (Sota Ryosuke), in this case. Kota is "questioning" his same sex attraction, and this is fine but his character is just a little too slapstick -- and that's the main failing of this drama, it can't seem to find the right tone. Is it a serious drama or a farce? Thankfully the Naoya character keeps us grounded for most of the series. [Update, 2 years later] So I just watched the whole series again, 2 years later, and my initial thoughts are the same. Noya's character is one of the most realistic gay characters I've ever seen in cinema. None of the kissing scenes work. I think these BL dramas try too hard to force same-sex romance into the story. A bromance between two guys is sufficiently dramatic and, since this is a Japanese movie, they could have gone to an onsen to establish their level of intimacy. The conclusion is the typical BL cop-out: to never suggest actual sex. That's why I think they should just aim for bromance because the audince never gets the implied payoff. And, for that matter, any kind of simulated sex scene in movies, gay or straight, is so cringe that I usually skip through that part. I don't think filmmakers grasp there is a vast audience of men who have no interest in women and would prefer to co-habitate with a male best friend who shares similar interests with no romantic baggage. Was this review helpful to you?

Went in with low expectations; still disappointed
Listen, I wasn’t expecting a masterpiece; it is a light rom com after all, so I was expecting some things to be over the top and I was liking the show overall, however I felt more and more bored as it continued.Dislikes:
- The kidnapping subplot was SO random and did nothing for the story. Legit added nothing and didn’t change either of the characters. It was silly and felt cheap.
- I hated that Naoya was waiting all day for Kota to show up in the beginning of the show. That’s just going too far. Naoya stayed liking Kota 10000x more than Kota likes him. Kota is just way too immature.
- Kota makes a show of “please let me stay at your place” at the end, when at this point it has been WELL ESTABLISHED that Naoya wants him to stay at his place. I could no longer handle the obliviousness from him, and the lack of romance in general. The kiss in the first episodes dupes you into thinking they’ll have more skinship.

when the luckiest guy on campus meets the unluckiest guy on campus
It was another very cute Japanese bl that targeted the very beginning phase of a relationship. The narrative of being with someone for their luck was actually very fascinating and unique. Acting was good considering that it's pretty obvious that they are going for an animated vibe for Kota. His expressions and actions are all very overexaggerated but it was fun to watch. The actors definitely did a good job.Only real complaint I have is that this was way too short. I wish this was 12 episodes because 8 episodes were only enough for them to scratch the surface of this relationship they are having. However, I don't regret watching this at all. This drama would definitely deserve a season 2.

CHARMING CAST AND STORY REMINDS US OF CHERRY MAGIC
CAST. Just like another Japanese series, CHERRY MAGIC, the two main leads of this series are its best asset. Both are adorable, especially Sato Yusuke who plays Naoya. Both the actor and the character are endearing. Acting is also natural. As for Soyta Ryosuke who plays Kota, his exaggerated acting makes you feel that you are watching an anime. Even the delivery of his lines are very cartoon-like. And it’s also charming.10 / 10
STORY. Story is cute, although I feel that the writers should’ve written in about the two main character’s families. One can’t help but wonder: Why are both characters living alone? Where are their families? Who pays for their tuition/rent/bills? I love the maturity of Naoya and how he handles situation and how he respects Kota. Also love Kota’s character development towards the end.
I read some comments from viewers who are disappointed that there is no kissing scene at the end. Hey guys, we got one at the beginning, right? Also, series like CHERRY MAGIC worked and are well-loved despite the lack of kissing scenes.
9 / 10
CINEMATOGRAPHY. It’s still a puzzle to me why Japanese and Korean BLs use so much filter. I know some series/movies use filters to hide the cast’s age, but in this case, the cast are all young – so what gives? Some Thai series are guilty of this, too. It’s ok if white filters (diffusers) are used for dream sequences or fantasy scenes or flashbacks, but for present day scenes, I don’t think it’s necessary. MUSIC is also mediocre, nothing impressive.
7 / 10
REWATCH VALUE. 10, if only because of the two male leads. Haha!!

THIS DRAMA IS SO FLUFFY AND WARM
I absolutely loved this drama....the chemistry....the story....the acting.....the fluffiness everything about this drama was just perfect.I loved how cute and natural the love between the two main leads were.
The story was also told really well and used the short time it had really well. The pacing was also well done and didn't drag at any time.
This drama also had a deeper meaning when it comes to the lucky and unlucky parts of the drama because the lucky characters life is so perfect that he constantly wonders if people are nice to him only for his luck and the unlucky character tries to stay away from people to avoid affecting them with his lack of luck. But because of the unlucky characters both leads meet and they both begin depending on eachother to live normal lives.
The fluffiness of the relationship was also well balanced and didn't make anything seem cringey or annoying.
All in all I loved this drama and once again Japan has did it again with delivering a beautiful drama.

Mr. Unlucky has no choice but to Kiss! - Vintage BL review
Fukuhara Kota (Sota Ryosuke) is a living danger zone of constant catastrophes happening to him and often enough involving those around him. As he meets Mr Lucky Naoya Shinomiya (Yusuke Sato) an interesting story evolves around them."Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice but to Kiss!" is a nice Japanese BL series, which I enjoyed to watch, especially I remember the Manga, which I liked. Given, it is a short series and more a snippet of a story. What was there was enjoyable and the actors, especially Kota's two personalities, how he deals with his permanent real bad luck.
While it is nothing big to write home about, and alas, we get no real BL scenes, I could... "assume" they were in love, and they say it, at least. Still the lack of intimacy if there had been no dialogues just watching might have just the same been good friendship, which in BL I am getting a bit tired of. As such between having fun and lack, I am not clear of a rating. But since unlike others I use the full spectrum of 1-10, despite enjoying it, and recommending it for a lazy day or to steam off after deeply emotionally pushed by some uber emotional BL to relax, I shall give it a
6/10
considering it has barely real BL, but the story and acting is alright and fun enough in itself. Whether you like it or not will however highly depend on what you expect in this more than in other shows. (Note: It has the typical retro Japanese Anime over-acting, which you may like or hate.)

In defiance of the title, Mr. Unlucky strives not to kiss!!!
But he will win you over regardles. From start to finish, this drama never fails being entertaining, impossibly cute and at times, devastatingly heartbreaking. It's very much worth the time you invest in it, more than once. What I particularly liked:
1. Shinomiya is THE perfect boyfriend. Literally a fairytale-like prince, inside and out. He's hot. He's sweet. He's a good friend. He respects your boundaries and makes fun of you in the nicest way possible. He voices his feelings!!! For real.
2. Fukuhara has been funny and relatable for the vast majority of the show. I wanted to strangle him only like thrice during the show, each time lasting mere seconds.
3. The soundtrack is catchy and fits the ambience very well. For people looking for it, it's called "Perfect" by "OCTPATH".
What I particularly disliked:
1. Their relationship can get a bit repetitive with not enough development at times. You might hear they lack intimacy, which I personally wouldn't have minded if there was additional progress to compensate for it. Alas, I wished for more towards the end.
2. The subtitles aren't that good. There are few minor issues I can look past, one annoying one that bugged me but didn't ruin it for me, and one major problem I will feel salty about to the end of my days. I'll leave a spoilery comment under the review pointing those out.
3. Pomeranian. You'll understand after watching it.
Overall feelings:
If you're looking for something light on plot, short and sweet, this is the show for you. Just be warned that like many japanese live actions based on shounen-ai manga, this one is also very ridiculous and innocent in its portrayal of love.

So cute and heartwarming
I have watched this three times now, and I like it a bit more every time. I love that there's no real drama or toxicity, just two lovable characters with funny, cute and heartwarming interactions. You can just feel how much they care for each other from the way they look at each other. The actors did a great job conveying their feelings despite the silly situations they find themselves in. The music is also great and really adds to the mood of some scenes. My new go-to when I'm in need of fluff. I really hope we get a sequel eventually! Was this review helpful to you?
