Use of aesthetics to cover a lacking story
Honestly, I was not very keen to watch this drama but given the ratings & hype I decided to give it a try. Visually the drama is very pleasing. I liked the first half where it told a story of a young girl having one sided crush on an elder guy who happens to be her brother's best friend. It reminded me of my childhood when I had a similar type of crush. There were scenes which was so relatable such as when she found his name spelling like the excitement was so real! I suddenly recalled those moments when I was 19-20 y.o and my entire day used to be blooming just because I found my crush's info- his full name or fb profile. So yeah it felt so so like a normal crush story.The second half however was meh and i ff/skipped a lot. There were two reasons for that:
A. The storyline was bland. There was nothing going on plot wise. The leads just met in different clothes & different ambience with flashbacks which was shown like 15 mins ago. Their conversations were like that of a constipated person. The entire line of side characters were made just to make the relationship arc shine which felt redundant. They wasted resources on actors which had no purpose and could have been done by one actor alone. The scope was so limited.
B. The infantilizing of the FL was way worse compared to other dramas. ML attended her PTM, buy pads for her, changed her shoes, cooks and clean for her, picks her from office basically treat her like a 5 yr old. FL parents controlled her too much, yeah one can say this is common in Asian families but that makes you a kid and not a person suitable for romance drama. This portrayal of women is not new in dramaland and has been a constant hit amongst audience so I won't waste my energy on saying like please give us a semi-independent FL or least someone with half a dime of brain, so i'll let it go.
My recommendation- go for a mature plot , there are plenty ones out there. This is not worth it no matter how good looking the cast is and how aesthetically good the production.

Such a good watch. Topic: brothers best friend
Boy was I concerned when I started this drama and the FL looked like a baby while the ML was a full ass grown man.After watching it I have to say they solved this age gap pretty well.
The ML is a green flag and I fell in love with him BUT the FL was just perfect not only is Zhao Lusi breathtakingly beautiful I also really enjoyed her acting. They really casted a good match.
Not to mention the big brother who was just perfect.
This drama contains the usual long and painful bild up before their first touch but plays it out really well.
I hope you enjoy watching this drama because I sure did.

Favorite Drama of all time
Forever grateful to whatever stars aligned to make me watch Hidden Love. It was the first CDrama I have watched, and I am yet to find another cdrama that can keep me as bewitched by the drama and even the bts. Although the story itself is nothing extraordinary, and there are no real plot-twists etc, the viewer is kept hooked by the sheer chemistry of Chen Zheyuan and Zhao Lusi. Both of them were so beautiful and bewitching, there was no need for anything else. They could have been reading out the recipe to boil potatoes, and we would have been just as hooked. The OST was also chef's kiss. Forever star has become one of those unskippable songs.Was this review helpful to you?
real-life struggle and finding a loved one
One of the best dramas that shows real-life struggle and finding a loved one. romantic. from school life to working life, smooth transactions. the overall scene is very relaxing. with so many dialogue and scenes that affect the watcher's emotions. Beautiful composition. and inspiration to love only one till your last. first love and successful love. Here both support each other to work and reach the goal. shows how to care and the girl thinks of his man more than herself by wanting to support and protect him.Was this review helpful to you?

No tengo palabras para describir lo que este drama me hizo sentir!Estoy impresionada, ver como cada vez hay más hombres escritos por mujeres, nunca te decepciona!
Esta historia te llega al corazón, te identificas con el personaje femenino, es dulce y simpática pero no al punto de ser molesta. Y del personaje masculino no puedo decir más que: Él es el estandar, green flag andante, llevava mucho tiempo sin ver un personaje que realmente te haga pensar: ¿porqué no hay más hombres así en el mundo real? (se imaginan, sería todo un sueño), este tipo de romance te hace elevar tus expectativas!
Pensé que iba a ser aburrido ya que no hay muchos giros en la trama, pero ver el proceso de enamoramiento de ambos fue muy agradable, nada forzado, es muy llevadero, te hace querer saber que va a pasar y les deseas lo mejor a cada uno. Simplemente encantador!
Y los personajes secundarios 10/10.

Well-written, light and heartwarming drama
Finally, have finished watching all the 25 episodes. You may see some comments I made while watching the drama in the "Comments" section.Tbh, I seldom watch Chinese dramas, let alone write reviews, but I think this drama deserves my review. It is a very well-written, light and heartwarming drama about a young girl who had a crush (or "puppy love" as they called it) on her brother's best friend when she was a teenager, which develops into genuine and unconditional love for him when she enters university and becomes an adult.
I love the storyline, it's simple, light, and heartwarming, without any major villains -- the only so-called "villains" would be the ML's ex-creditor who kept on harassing him, and her friend who happened to be the FL's superior in the company where she's interned, and some schoolgirl bullies who bullied the FL's friend when they were still at school.
The rest are all positive characters with heartwarming relationships and their respective chemistries. I love the brother-sister relationship between FL and her brother, as well as between FL and her brother's friend with whom she is secretly having feelings. Love how they act as protective elder brothers to protect their mei mei from bullies. Love the bickering between the elder brother and the younger sister. Their acting is awesome and feels natural.
I also love the buddy friendship between the ML and the FL's elder brother, as well as the friendship between the FL and her three roommates at the university. I also love the FL's parents, both the mom and dad are portrayed as ideal parents who eventually are very supportive of their daughter.
Everything is being portrayed warmly. I believe this is partly due to the amazing acting performance of the actors, not only the main actors but the supporting actors as well. Their acting is awesome and feels natural. The main lead actress, Zhao Lusi, stands out for being able to portray the main FL character from her teenage years until she graduates from university. She is very pretty, cute and adorable. I also love the acting of the SML Victor Ma, who portrays the FL's elder brother. His bickering and interaction with her little sister (both the young and the adult version of the sister) is very heartwarming to watch - thanks to his superior acting skills.
Another thing, the younger FL character is depicted to be 14 years old (8th grade), but the young actress portraying the character (Zhang Xi Wei) seems to be younger, around 11-12 years old, I think? Her acting is awesome for a child actress her age, it's always a delight watching her on screen in the earlier episodes. I predict she will become an amazing great actress when she grows up.
It's a highly recommended drama everyone should watch.

I am envy to their love story .
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet drama centered around a boy and a girl who hide their feelings from each other. The girl falls in love with her brother's friend, who has always cared for her like a big brother. Despite seeing him as more than just a brother since childhood, she never confesses her love, fearing she might lose him. This often places her in awkward situations.The reactions from her brother and family are portrayed as justified. Her brother's perspective is understandable: if his friend had fallen for any other girl, especially one younger than him, it would be acceptable, but falling for his sister is a difficult pill to swallow. The family's concern for her is also depicted in a relatable manner.
I particularly liked the proposal scene; it was the highlight of the drama. The main male lead was, as always, amazing, and the brother was also very impressive. The female lead, their friend circle, and her parents, who are the coolest couple in the drama, all added depth to the story. The supporting characters further enriched the narrative.
Overall, a big thumbs up for this drama!

Sweet romance❤️❤️ this was a great series. Obvious why so many viewers gave high ratings. Highly recommended!!This had just the right amount of everything (young love, sad and tragic past for ML, true love, belief in the goodness of the other person, having that person realize that they're worth it..... overcomes all obstacles making a person whole again, giving purpose, dedication and happiness). Actors did an amazing job portraying their respective characters. Loved the Male and Female lead (the chemistry and the way they interacted with each other felt like a real love story) and along with all supporting characters.
Overall 10 rating as I can't give any critique. Rewatch value 10.

This drama is beautiful. It had a lot of emotions, I cried but also laughted. It showed how her parents treasured and loved her. Her brother loved her very much even when they were arguing, when he heard she got boyfriend he got worried and in the end was very happy for her. Jia Xu didn't take her for granted but took care of her because he loved her. He also didn't want to give up their relationship even when her parent didn't support them yet. ep 4 she says tht she is in love with him ..7 she finds out that he is dating some1 so she goes to Yihe as excuse to meet her online dating guy and sees tht duan jiaxu is with a girl and she is unhappy abt it and cries thinking tht she is his gf..n how he broke her promise tht he will tell her when he is dating some1…9 she find out tht he is unwell so she hurries to his office n while waiting 4 taxi he accidently kisses her on the forehead..and takes him to the hosp..10 she takes care of him in the hosp n all..n she takes revenge or splashes back the water to the obsessive gurl (was too cool) they have a moment..11 he thinks of her not in sister way and is worried for her..12 whn he found tht she is drunk at a bar he comes together…tht state she blurts out that she likes some1 and tht he is nice to her n every1 basically she describes him without saying the name and thn he asks her while she is sleeping in car tht if he can "is it ok if i become like him.."..omg..my heart🫠🤗🤩😘 in the morning whn picking her up to drop her to the airport the guy who likes zhang zhi confesses his feeling to her whn duan is in the car and she rejects him saying tht she likes someone else..n then she tells y she was drunk by duan seems to be upset he interrogates her abt who she went with n abt tht guy…funny scene anyways🤣🤣..13 she asks him if he has gg and he says no and he says
