Two Bros Sittin' In A Bench 5 Feet Apart 'Cause They're Gay (?)

I went into Heesu in Class 2 without knowing the webtoon, no expectations, and only a handful of other Korean series to compare it with. None of those were exactly the same genre, but they shared that familiar mix: a lad figuring out his sexuality, messy confessions, dumb misunderstandings, and a soft landing at the end. The show definitely delivers that kind of comfortable, frustrating, fluffy emotional ride.

What surprised me most was how much attention the secondary couples and plots received. That’s not inherently a bad choice, since plenty of shows juggle multiple relationships well, but here it felt like it came at the expense of the main story. The series is named after Lee Heesu, yet more often than not, it felt like Ju Chan-yeong and Choi Ji-yu were the real central couple. Heesu’s journey sometimes slipped into the background, which is a bit ironic considering how much of his story is about being unseen.

Acting-wise, though, everyone was great. The cast sold every feeling, and the actor playing Heesu in particular really carried the emotional weight he was given. You can also feel the higher production value compared to many similar Korean LGBTQ+ shows, which still often have to do a lot with limited resources when queer stories are involved.

I picked this series up mainly for two reasons: the gay romance tag and the longer format. Ten episodes with decent runtime isn’t that common. And I did enjoy it overall, just… not really for those reasons.

As a coming-of-age high school drama, it works really well. As a gay romance, it feels like it pulls its punches. I wasn’t looking for explicit scenes or anything over the top, especially with high school characters, but the ending still felt rushed and emotionally thin. After nine and a half episodes of longing and miscommunication, we basically land on a quiet bench scene and call it a happy ending. Honestly, the happiest, most convincingly developed couple might have been Shin Ho-sik and his girlfriend, whose name I don’t even remember.

So yeah: for me it’s a 7.5/10. Sweet, soft, and sometimes very touching, but also underwhelming in the areas where it seemed like it was supposed to shine. Some viewers might love the gentleness and ensemble focus, others will feel like Heesu deserved more of the spotlight, and I’m somewhere in the middle, slightly wistful about what it could’ve been.

its good but the fact that you are watching thing because of BL content and the focus of some episode like episode 3 is the second lead which is straight kind of love weird? hoping that the other episode showcase more moments of the lead couple because it only consist of few episodes. just my thought hahhahah

Unrequited love

The actors are handsome and the height difference is great and the story plot twist stubbed me in the back, I didn't expect it to change from unrequited love with a 10 years friendship to another new love journey . Can't wait to see how it goes .but directors should increase to at least 15 episodes.... let's make boy love series trend more with handsome characters and great story lines just like K-dramas.... Avoid tension in series, can you do A mafia falling in love with a student boy love plzzz but the story should be 15 episodes. Or you can do the Alpha and Omega world where men are able to get pregnant.

Scam Adaptation a nuisance to all BL lovers

i havent seen a SINGLE episode of this crap adaptation. i saw one tiktok showing THE GIRL BESTFRIEND not even being canon with the male lead in the manhwa END UP BEING THE CRUSH??? WHAT IS THIS absolute abomination that the script writer pulled up who freaking approved of it and why did the author allow it??? plus, it seems heesu himself is more of a side character rather than the mc himself by the looks of epi 4 where he barely showed up 💀 so disappointed that the poster is just clickbait for unknowing BL viewers who think its gonna be cute gay highschool romance when its just another straight cliche highschool drama. i wanna know if the actors even questioned the script when they signed up for the job

bl with kdrama feel, ADORABLE and WORTH IT!!!

I adored this show!!!!! I went online expecting to see everyone praising it, so I was surprised to see some people had issues. in my opinion, it gave off realism, slice of life, slow burn vibes from the start. I wasn't expecting a huge makeout session (sometimes they barely kiss in straight kdramas hello??) I was just happy that they realised and confessed.

for me, it was really lovely to see a more realistic portrayal of lgbtq today, and especially in kdrama format!! it used to be ridiculously hard to find lgbtq dramas, and often they would be like 5 episodes of 20 minutes, extremely low budget, and have a really different feel. as someone who has been watching straight kdramas for years, it was sooo lovely & validating to see a well-done, quality kdrama with the same vibe, but the leads just happen to be gay. also as a woman with a girlfriend whose mum is not happy about my sexuality and my dad doesn't know, it's just nice to see more representation of the problems of coming out. if I had come out to my friends in high school, they wouldve reacted like chanyoung, if not worse.

anyways, all that to say I LOVED this drama, it's really for the queers, heesu and seungwon are my babies and everyone should watch it, just remembering that it's more restrained than like a thai bl.

DISAPPOINTMENT......

this series had so freaking much potential it's actually not even funny i absolutely loved all the actors like everyone is so good but they managed to make the MAIN couple into side characters like can't describe how freaking boring the straight couple was like it wasn't even interesting because there is ton of straight dramas that are 1000% better i skipped all the scenes with them and ended up watching the whole episode in like 15 minutes.

the first few episodes were only chanyoung and that girl then we got tiny bit of the main leads but that tennis guy still was in every single scene

the confession?? now that was criminal we got in the last few minutes of the drama LIKE NO that is in fact not acceptable.

i have never read the webtoon so I can't judge but i heard the plot was changed and other stuff, so i am sorry to everyone who actually waited for this drama because I went with no expectations and still got disappointed

they shouldn't even call this a bl it was just a mid straight drama and not even a decent straight drama OH GOD I AM SO FREAKING MADDDDD

IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT ADAPTATION GO AHEAD AND WATCH!!

This was a typical kdrama thing and the fact it was filmed few years ago makes it more understandable..

Loved the characters and they did great with their acting! It's a drama that focuses on the both heter and BL relationship!

Apart for their usual dragging of the storyline, it's pretty much a decent drama! If you missed the old teen kdrama plot then this is also for you.

Oh I didn't like the way the confession was done they should have allowed the other guy to be the one to confess first!

Anyway it was a cute, fun and friendly drama!!

Good but too much wasting time.

I want to vote 7.0, but many bad story of K-drama I still give it 6.5-7.0, this is better than that, but I won't recommend anyone to watch it because it wastes the time.

Production: very good
Story: concept is very good, but how deep story showed and *structure arrangement* is huge problems. You will feel so much unnecessary things, unless you have free time.
Actor and acting is in its best, but only straight couple achieve convincing story
Visual FX and OST is good

Because all main actors/actress is quite popular and young, audience should prepare themselves about love service that can show to us. This production plays too much safe.

Overall=good and very high potential but end up with normal serie, *abstract narration comparison to life is very high score, I think it is unique thing in this serie*. You will have high expectation for first 2 episode, but you will have lower and lower after episode 5-6.

Anyway, I like it, and good to watch it. If I need to recommend others, I will pick more safe serie than this. Still sorry to manhwa fans.

The Poster Doesn't Lie.

Disclaimer: I don't know the webtoon and don't understand Korean as well. So, to me, the drama was exactly what the poster promised -- you don't know who the main character is or what I was signing up for.

I had seen people going off after the trailer, but since I didn't understand the trailer, too, I was 100% in the dark while beginning this one. Also, this drama has apparently been marinating since 2023 or something.

☆ The positives?

--- Technical: Standard production with plenty of colour and convincing performances.
--- Story Highlights:
1. Heesu's internal struggles.
2. Seung Won and Ji Yu's friendship.
3. Heesu and Seung Won.
4. Ho Sik, Heesu and Chan Yung.
5. Ho Sik and Hee Won.
6. Hee Su's family.

Hee Su was the most interesting character. His monologues, introspection and fears were what made me rate this a 7/10. Not to mention, Ahn Ji Ho was perfect for that role. The second would be Seung Won by Lee Sang Jun.

☆ The Cold Pricklies:

-- Chan Yung's individual storyline. Not gonna lie, it was plain bland and boring. I skipped most of his scenes and that 10 tennis practices or so that were stuffed in between. (That's why I cut off 3.5 out of 10 points. They took up a lot of runntime.) An episode or so of it might've been enough to let us see his struggles; but making it an important plot point which revolves around him was useless. Which was often excessive and did not progress well or add anything much to his character.

(EP10 had a whole "insert song" when it should've been spent to speed up the other characters' storylines. Not that the song was bad, but hey, dude! This is not High School Musical.)

Considering that I adored little bit of glimpses of romance we got from other couples such as Hok Sik and even Bob girl, Chan Yung's storyline should've just stuck to the same pattern. I liked Ji Yu as an individual character, but their romance was somehow pale when compared to both Hee Su's and heck, even Ho Sik's and Hee Su's sisters' lives. Probably because they were pretty generic unlike the other characters'; who had to struggle and face rejection.

Keeping aside the romance aspect, the way the character Chan Yung is written might be a major reason why I skipped almost all his scenes. It could've been interesting without making me feel as if I was being forced to choke down his scenes. I didn't care about anything happening in his life. The actor, Cho Jun Yung, did what he could with what he was given and I appreciate him for that.
Chan Yung might be a gem to Hee Su, but not to me.

Also, I don't get 'why' Chan Yung was all that great to Hee Su. That was another aspect that wasn't properly conveyed. Even the currently airing silly 'Something is not Right' and that JDrama 'Kimi Ni Wa Todokanai' does an excellent job expressing why the main character likes his best friend.

☆ Final Thoughts:
Could've been A LOT shorter. And don't get me wrong, there are plenty of JDramas and even KDramas that manage to deliver convincing stories without dragging out the plot.
They should've renamed this something like "Tennis and Class 2" or something like that. I get why so many people are pissed by this adaptation; but as I said; I didn't even know who the main character was while checking out the poster. So, I think a 6.5 or 7 from my side is a good score.

okay...first of all, i liked it. but are a huge things that are completly insane that make me freaking the h3ll out. how can we call this a bl when the second couple which feels like the main had literally 7 eps of couple while heesu and seung a 10 mins holding hands???

anyway, i like the way heesu grow up a lot, stop thinking about chan young as a star and himself as a planet which is in orbit around chan...

the evolution is clearly there, after him realizing that chan young isn't everything, and once we give up on something, other things can come into our life.

about the straight couple, idk what im supost to say, i didn't feel any quimic around them, and the tenis parts were annoying and idk, everything is just a little bit weird anyway.. i like the song summer sings in the final ep, is pretty beautiful. no hate to them, i just cant.

it was nice if we had a special ep or something for HEESU AND SEUNGWON! bc, im fired of the others 2, they have their own time.

from my point of view, idk if i can calls this a bl...i put my expectatives so high and it was painful.

Great show

Overall this is a great show, BUT it could have been better
too much focus on secondary couples, no kiss scenes, and everything feels rushed at the end
i wish there is more to this i really enjoyed it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------}

A 10 out of 10!

It is indeed that this novel "Heesu in Class 2" turns into reality, from fictional to an actual. I just saw this novel when I was scrolling on my tiktok, I just noticed a particular novel that they do adaptation. I watched it and waited for the episodes and I'm too stunned to speak.

It is 10/10! I love the story line and flow of the acting. It is indeed though that it is relatable, especially me, I experienced what Heesu felt on a particular person, especially my guy best friend before, that back then we didn't communicate anymore.

I love that part that this movie gives me knowledge and ideas how to confess and end.

To the people out there, seeing this review, try watching this series, Heesu in Class 2.
