Good drama but WAYYYY TO LONG

I got really hooked on the characters from the start, in fact I was more for Heesu x Chan young, but as the episodes went on, I was really captivated by Seung Won and his beguin for Heesu. Unfortunately the series is too long for the content, so a season 2 is inevitable. Even the side story about heesu's sisters, I didn't follow anything, same for chanyoung's tennis maths which have nothing to do with the confession scenes in ep 9, I was just passing them by. In short, I'm so hooked on the characters that I couldn't resist just one season, this kdrama/bl is worth a 7/10.

Disappointing Straight Washing series

As someone who read the novel I felt this show was really underwhelming.

I know that they had to dilute the story so it could appease Korean public, but it made Heesu look pretty much like a support character in his own series.

So let's dive into it without spoilers.

The series has a promising start with the I fell in love with X by mistake or unintentionally, it is a common trope and it if explored correctly it would be amazing.

The case is, it wasn't, they switched the order of some reveals including confessing to X, they didn't leave the ending ambiguous as if X was in fact in love with Heesu from the beginning and they had a unnecessary couple that took too much screentime.

They also changed several plot points which hurt the actual script and made little to no sense. In the end they are left with a stark bland adaptation that could have been one of the best series in a while, but got lost in interpretation.

adaptation that didn't adapt much

I have been a long time fan of the manhwa, so i had high expectations to be honest. I don't consider it bad but i think the story drifted away waaaaay too much from the original plot (which was perfect, the manhwa is very well written and has a good pace i love it). To be fair, it was entertaining and the acting was very good!! i feel like the essence of heesu at least was very well captured but i just can't put aside the fact that so many crucial scenes were cutoff from the plot to the point where the main relationships at times felt like a side one........

Don't read the webtoon before

Usually I don't write reviews but I'm so disappointed in this series that I needed to say something. I read the webtoon before watching it and probably it was a mistake because I ended up watching something entirely different from the original BL. First of all the characters, Heesu is quite irritanting, so much that I get annoyed when he is in the story, he seems a bully who only cares for his best friend and wants to get Seungwon a girlfriend so desperately that he even comes out as forceful and rude, Ji Yu was nothing like this in the original story and some relationships don't even exist. No character in the webtoon is so irritating, snob or annoying like in this series. I recommed you to read the bl which is very funny and cute but I don't recommed watching this series at all

Two Bros Sittin' In A Bench 5 Feet Apart 'Cause They're Gay (?)

I went into Heesu in Class 2 without knowing the webtoon, no expectations, and only a handful of other Korean series to compare it with. None of those were exactly the same genre, but they shared that familiar mix: a lad figuring out his sexuality, messy confessions, dumb misunderstandings, and a soft landing at the end. The show definitely delivers that kind of comfortable, frustrating, fluffy emotional ride.

What surprised me most was how much attention the secondary couples and plots received. That’s not inherently a bad choice, since plenty of shows juggle multiple relationships well, but here it felt like it came at the expense of the main story. The series is named after Lee Heesu, yet more often than not, it felt like Ju Chan-yeong and Choi Ji-yu were the real central couple. Heesu’s journey sometimes slipped into the background, which is a bit ironic considering how much of his story is about being unseen.

Acting-wise, though, everyone was great. The cast sold every feeling, and the actor playing Heesu in particular really carried the emotional weight he was given. You can also feel the higher production value compared to many similar Korean LGBTQ+ shows, which still often have to do a lot with limited resources when queer stories are involved.

I picked this series up mainly for two reasons: the gay romance tag and the longer format. Ten episodes with decent runtime isn’t that common. And I did enjoy it overall, just… not really for those reasons.

As a coming-of-age high school drama, it works really well. As a gay romance, it feels like it pulls its punches. I wasn’t looking for explicit scenes or anything over the top, especially with high school characters, but the ending still felt rushed and emotionally thin. After nine and a half episodes of longing and miscommunication, we basically land on a quiet bench scene and call it a happy ending. Honestly, the happiest, most convincingly developed couple might have been Shin Ho-sik and his girlfriend, whose name I don’t even remember.

So yeah: for me it’s a 7.5/10. Sweet, soft, and sometimes very touching, but also underwhelming in the areas where it seemed like it was supposed to shine. Some viewers might love the gentleness and ensemble focus, others will feel like Heesu deserved more of the spotlight, and I’m somewhere in the middle, slightly wistful about what it could’ve been.

Cute but Underwhelming: A Slow Story That Missed Its Potential

The series was cute, but honestly more annoying than enjoyable at times. Most of the side-couple scenes felt unnecessary, and I often found myself skipping through them. I really wish the story had focused on Heesu, because there was barely any depth or real backstory for a character who seemed central. The plot stayed very surface-level, which made it hard to feel emotionally invested.

It was painfully slow. With 10 episodes, most of the interesting moments only came in the last 10 minutes of the series. It felt like the story was trying to go somewhere meaningful and could have become a really good show, but they missed the mark badly. So much had to be explained instead of naturally shown, and we didn’t get the deep dive into emotions and experiences that the story could have delivered.

Overall, it’s the kind of show you put on just to watch casually. It felt underwhelming, especially compared to the expectations it set. I was hoping for that high-school crush excitement, but that emotional payoff just wasn’t there. The romance came and went too quickly, without enough buildup to make it satisfying.

It also felt like BL was used mainly as a selling point, while the story’s focus leaned more toward the straight couple. That made it a bit misleading in terms of what it promised versus what it delivered.

There were some cute moments, and the actors did okay, but it lacked depth and emotional impact. I’d give it a 5.5/10 fine for casual viewing, but don’t expect to be wowed.

it would be a perfect 10 but.....

Dont judge me but I forced myself to not care the chanyoung story and I only focus on heesu and its not bad. I know my rating is too generous way generous actually. But this is for heesu and seungwon . I love them so much and I would die for them. Even I can not take it when they just touched what more if they
iaeuhdiuefebfiljyewuyeugfub . Yall dont understand I read the manhwa and I just think that as a separate entity lol. but hey at least my boys are happy. and Im happy too. I know some are disappointed and didn't like it and jts okay. I hated, enjoyed, etc but Im satisfied at least so yeah. uhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhu having a crush so fun hsshshshahahhahabye

Wholesome and sweet high school romance

This show is so cute and in my opinion perfectly paced. It features 2 couples, one M/M and one F/M. Their stories are closely intertwined, so we see all of their backstories and perspectives. The characters are shown as flawed and well-rounded with diverse families, interests, dreams and insecurities.

The direction, cinematography and acting are all high quality.

Some may feel the story or romance is slow-paced, but I think it is perfect, since Heesu must first get over Chanyoung before he can start a romance with someone else. Furthermore, they are high schoolers, so even holding hands is a big deal here.

Heesu in Class 2 Figuring Stuff Out SLOWY

ᴍʏ ʀᴀᴛɪɴɢ ꜱʏꜱᴛᴇᴍ: 8 = [ᴇɴᴊᴏʏᴇᴅ ɪᴛ, ᴡᴏʀᴛʜ ᴀ ᴏɴᴇ ᴛɪᴍᴇ ᴡᴀᴛᴄʜ. ꜱᴏᴍᴇᴛɪᴍᴇꜱ ɪ ᴍᴀʏ ᴅʀᴏᴘ ᴀɴ 8+ ʀᴀᴛᴇᴅ ꜱʜᴏᴡ ᴅᴇꜱᴘɪᴛᴇ ᴇɴᴊᴏʏɪɴɢ ɪᴛ, ʙᴇᴄᴀᴜꜱᴇ ɪᴛ ᴅʀᴀɢɢᴇᴅ ᴏɴ ᴏʀ ɪᴛ ʙᴇᴄᴀᴍᴇ ᴘʀᴇᴅɪᴄᴛᴀʙʟᴇ.]

Despite all the whining surrounding this show, I liked it! If you're not oversensitive to present day social gripes, you'll enjoy iy too, for what it is. A show about a gay teenager who's struggling with who/why/what he likes and he's gotta' take it step by step according to his circumstances. Also he's kinda cutely dense.

Overall;
Eps 1 through 8 were well done, good pace, nice acting, all enjoyable.
Ep 9 fell off a bit, the writer might have been drunk or hungover when writing this episode.
Ep 10, I'd say landed well enough, about 75% good, and the other percent of it was shit, but the show was saved after all.

The SHIT bits of Ep 10:
Singing. I ALWAYS skip singing in ANY BL, as it is, waaaaaay too many BLs have some person singing something and it's NEVER entertaining, EVER. The scenes with Heesu and CY continued to be a waste of everyone's time because that friendship is shallow bs and nobody gaf. CY is one of the worst written 'friend' characters I've seen in a while because this guy's 'me me me' complex is exhausting jfc.

The 75% HIGHLIGHTS of Ep 10:
- Heesu coming out to his sister was a great scene, so well done!
- Heesu confessing to Seung Won in that classroom was well done too!
- Seung Won telling CY to (essentially) eff off and mind his own business was fantastic!
- Everything following Seung Won returning the confession to Heesu was SATISFYING AF. The line, "I wanted to show the stars." while sitting on that dark track field feeling all blushy and awkward and newly minted as mutually liking each other was Seung Won playing his sloth game at maximum level! LOL

And my 100% PERSONAL HIGHLIGHT OVERALL for this whole show:
- Lee Sang Jun, I RARELY find SK actors attractive, and he is one of those rare cases. He's 👌
Apparently he was in Connection, but it's fair I overlooked him, I saw no one but Ji Sung in Connection. He may be going on my fave Asian celebs list after some more consideration.

Right so, when I think back on eps 1-8 (which I enjoyed) and deduct 9 (which wasn't great) and then add the 75% of episode 10, weighing it up against my personal rating system, I'm giving this 8/10. Over all it's worth a one time watch. It won't make my recc list though, watching or skipping it, neither is a major loss.

A second season or special episode likely won't happen because I'm sure a majority of people are gonna rate and drag this down based on their personal sensitivities and tank any possible hope of that, but if they ever did make a follow up with Heesu and Seung Won continued, I'd watch it for sure.

So yeah, it was fun ✌️

I know some people kinda hate this because of the straight couples. But for me it doesn’t really matter, and I hope other people feels the same too.

With this comment i want to give support, and love to this drama, so that the negativity in other people’s comment will lessen. I really really hope that the haters stopped the hate, and just give their love and support ❤️❤️❤️

absolutely 100% scam (what was the scriptwriter thinking are they drunk)

this drama 2 eps open with high expectation the story, the camera view point, the duration it make me have a big expectation, but after 3-10 eps it's just waste of my time

i dont say you must not watch it, if you like :
- come out series teeneger with him not the main character ( llike what even the bff strugle about tenis have to do with the story??)
- straight couple overshadowed the main couple
- unimportant story
- addition unnecessary charcters
- worst adaptation
- never read the manwa
- oh and nothing hapen between the main couple (but the straigt couple in just 3 ep can have clingy part and the main couple like what just skin touch and that wil like 1 second in ep 8)
i will totaly recomenden to you 100%

A nice story about a nice guy next door who happens to be gay

I am straight so I am writing from that perspective, as an outsider observing something new, in this case, the lgbt+ AUDIENCE here, ppl who totally shocked me with their vile comments about this drama. Wow. They want a steamy fast thing in a 100% gay world. Sorry. That's not REAL life and real art. Dont gay ppl have friends who are not gay???? To be honest, I think the grumpy audience are asking for trashy porn. Yeah criticize me but that it the essence of what they are asking for.
I LOVE THIS KDRAMA BC IT IS REAL. IT IS ABOUT MATURING, LOVE, BEING WHO YOU ARE, BEING HONEST, HAVING DREAMS AND GOALS AND MAKING THEM HAPPEN, PUTTING EFFORT INTO YOUR LIFE TO BE HAPPY AND DO WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO. And life is not gay or straight, it is **** diverse **** and underneath, everyone is the same. I will quote another reviewer here who in one sentence, said what this kdrama is about - "Far from being just another of the hundreds of LGBT+-themed productions that are increasingly appearing on television channels and digital media, 'Heesu in Class 2' surprises with a complexity and attention to detail that transcends its genre, with its fresh and emotional take on what it means to find one's own path in the midst of adolescence. "
YEAH and this same recipe holds for ANY stage in life.

The entire plot can be moved on to any age and situation. The fact that the 2 main characters are gay is just one aspect of who they are. But gay or straight, everyone has the same issues of finding their own path and being true to themselves.
Being lgbt+ is a bit more tricky bc ppl can throw stones at you out of disgust, but ... anyone poor, ugly, etc.. gets similar treatment :) For example, any one of those school kids who were bullied... Think of "The Glory" and then tell me, why would a lgbt+ person bitch about mistreatment as if they are the only one being mistreated?

But anyways - I think this drama has perfect pacing and great acting and shows life as it is. ANd it is slow bc it takes time to fall in love, to accept being a gay teenager, to be brave to tell someone you like them, etc. etc etc.

HEE SU GOT SMARTER TOWARDS THE END AND HE TOLD CHUN :) I am waiting to see Chun's reaction.

I loooooove the straight character Summer, she is soooo wise and mature and a wonderful person. I love the friendship between her and SW

. THe first thing that shocked me is that the lgbt+ viewers complained that this is not a BL drama but a straight drama, that there was no relationship development between Hee Su and Seong Won and that Chun and Ji took too much time. IT WAS SHOCKING TO READ THAT. So what is the idea of "relationship" that these people have??? just jumping into kissing right away.... ??? I didnt realize how immature and greedy this audience was.... They wanted to see dates of Hee Su and SW. They didnt want any straight couples. It pissed them off that the original manga wasn't followed and Chun had a girlfriend instead of being gay. They quoted me Love in Big City as an example of a good BL kdrama. I havent watched that yet, I just saw the cover images, it was lots of sexual contact and nudity there, so I was put off by that. And it is not necessary here. Hee Su is 18 years old *kid*. Yeah technically he could make babies but emotionally, he is still a child. Also, even when he makes his sexual debut, he wont be a promiscuous or overzealous individual. He will be a healthy boy next door. I think that is the value of Hee Su's character, he is a decent PERSON who just happens to have a certain preference. His sexual preference is not something he picked. His CHARACTER is something he works for.

To me this kdrama is more about character and generic issues of love in general and people in general rather than some hot steamy BL encounters. And that is why I like this kdrama. I think the actor who does Hee Su is great in his role and Chun and SW and Ji too. They are really acting in realistic ways and the kdrama feels real.

To me, the value of this kdrama is showing a mix, a diversity of people who get along well. I think the potential of this kdrama is to make the lgbt+ ppl more socially acceptable. Hee Su is a really nice kid. All characters are. They are vulnerable, open, honest as much as they muster, often brave, or scared, and making steps forward.

Well except Hee Su. He was brave enough to hang out witih Chun but he was so stagnated there, never making a move forward, ignoring his own inner preferences, scared of societal and Chun's rejection.
THEN WE HAVE SW who openly confeses to his friend Ji, and she doesnt judge him, it was normal, his friend was in love with someone and that someone happened to be male too. That was not a big deal. The big deal is that SW turned out not to be a recluse.

So to me, the value of this kdrama is to show that love is love and people are people.

The value of the straight couple is that it pushed HeeSu into CHANGE. HS was stuck slaving away to adore Chun, and he was a coward. He did NOT plan to confess... he did not plan to make a move... he was scared, he was deeply closeted, and he cheated to keep the status quo. SO NO LOVE WAS POSSIBLE. IN FACT, IT WAS NOT LOVE.
Also SW does not love Hee Su yet. SW is lying to him and praying on him, not saying what his intentions are and who he is. He is a ... stalker LOL it is like having a pet that later turns out to want to eat you. It is unfair to lie to someone and get close to them just for the sake of pouncing on them.
And Hee Su is not ready. He is deeply in the closet, he is using SW for his own self serving interest to keep Chun...

SO ... Hee Su and SW have some growing up to do first before they can date...

is my opinion.

I see plenty of relationship development with Hee Su and SW. At first Hee Su was 100% about Chun and SW was just a little noise. Then SW said hi, asked HS to come to the club, talked to him, waited to go to school, went out to intercept LOL, went out to that coffee shop, ..... ...

The value of the straight couple is that we see that Chun was inspired by honesty of the girl. Chun was bored with stagnation and made a move to GROW.
Hee Su's childish admiration in lying was not inspiring.
Once Chun decided to explore new paths and GROW, HS got forced to do new things, and to meet SW.

Life is like that. Gay and straight realms mix and match in real life. Ppl are one or the other or mix and match. I think the value of this kdrama is to SEE HOW MUCH EASIER it would be for everyone to say up front what they prefer. Most of plots and comedy and hurt of this drama are due to confusion that happened because of hiding and lying adn misunderstandings.

So, from my point of view. I would find it boring and artificial to watch just 2-4 gay gays on dates. I think life is diverse and I think Chun having a girlfriend makes it more interesting, because Chun kinda behaved gay but then the girl inspired him/

And on the personal note: my interaction here was educational. Since I am aware that lgbt+ ppl can experience a heavy harassment, I naively expected that they will be more aware about human condition and deeper finer meanings of life.

I was blamed here as a stupid person because all straight ppl are stupid and dont understand. Unfortunately, the lgbt+ community isnt aware that aids and social prejudice are rampant for straight people too :) Check out syphillis and AIDS and opiates and drugs billboards all over LA, San Fran or NYC.... Every 3rd american has genital herpes... and straight people too fight for social status and acceptance... All women anywhere are a major target of harassment... Any minorities, Natives, brown skin, immigrants, disabled, elderly, .... experience MAJOR MAJOR harassment and societal prejudice. **MAJOR** And of course, the planet Earth itself, so abused. And poor people anywhere. Poor people are actually majority LOL but they are abused more than any minority...

So... if you want some better karma, be nice to others and support other minorities. Which I haven't seen. I have seen only elbowing forward from this group. And it paid off. There are many rich and famous and popular public figures who are lgbt+.

In the usa, so many lgbt+ people are rich and/or famous, they are all over entertainment industry, and all over the public arena, have good jobs, etc, and many vote in very conservative ways and exploit others. Just google "rich and famous lgbt in the USA" and you see links with lists of politicians, billionaires, stars, etc .
I personally have met several sharks who were gay. Not nice at all.

The bottom line is: IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT GROUP YOU BELONG TO.
The only thing that matters is WHAT YOU ARE ON THE INSIDE.
The bottom line is: *****EITHER YOU ARE A JERK OR A NICE PERSON ***** and that is determined on what is INSIDE YOU, your character
JERKS AND GOOD PEOPLE ARE ANYWHERE

if you are straught, you are not automatically evil and dumb, and if you are lgbt+ you are not automatically saintly angelic wise person

SO LET US NOT BLAME ANYTHING ON ANYTHING. if you arent happy, maybe it is not bc of your sexual orientation but bc of your CHARACTER. Wake up and take action. Yeah straight people can be super mean and harmful to lgbt+ but please realize:

****** ANYONE CAN BE MEAN TO ANYONE FOR ANY REASON ****** ppl love to find SOME reason to be mean. So, if you are in some mean environment, then MOVE. Go live in San Francisco, LA or NYC or another big city that provides support. Or somehow change your local environment. If you are a nice person and a hard worker, you WILL find a way to thrive. So do it.

and if you complain that straight people are not nice to lgbt+ ppl, then why be mean to straight people and do EXACTLY what you complain about... ?

I think this is 21st century and it is time to do to others as we wish others do to us. It just makes sense and is a LOT easier, at least in the long run.
