Although set in different time periods, When Life Gives You Tangerines and Our Movie share a common essence.
The message that life is worth living despite hardships and even in the face of bitter realities like death, whether of people or dreams is the emotional backbone of both stories. While When Life Gives You Tangerines carries an autobiographical tone, Our Movie unfolds through the lens of metafiction.
Both dramas are rich in symbolism, visually stunning, and accompanied by unforgettable soundtracks.

both shows tell about generational struggles of koreans (especially women), who lived through hardships and poverty and worked hard to secure the better future for their children.
husbands of the main female characters are quiet, caring and protective. main female characters face losses and grow from naive girls to resilient women
because both stories are set in 20th century, through non-linear narrative, we see parallels, and shift of opportunities across generations. and the heart of both stories is, of course, family

Both these dramas gave me the same vibes of parental love, growth and family struggles. Starts with the same nostalgia era. Of course, When Life Gives You Tangerines is more well made and prettier.

Although one is a movie & one is a drama the vibe seemed similar to me. Each with strong FL & ML actors who deliver enchanting characters.

Both span 40+ Years and use biographical style storytelling. Lots of character growth because storyline lasts so long.

WLGYT is from 1960s to 2020s.

MG is from 1980s to 2020s.
