ONE OF THE BEST CDRAMAS OF 2024

The writing is very well done as it is the live action adaption of "The marriage of di daughter". This story starts off with a strong plot that makes you root for the FL. Also that this show has a very handsome duke su that makes this even more beautiful/masterpiece. I rarely rave about shows but this is it!! The plot twists are hard to predict as you dont know who will do what and whats next this keeps me on edge. The only problem is that youku is only releasing 1-2 eps a day..

Best Drama 2024

An absolutely mesmerizing story..love both FL and ML acting lots of revenge which i love amd beautiful chemistry between the main characters. Side characters have also played their role beautifully. After a long long time am watching a beautiful c drama live. Much better than other on going c-dramas which have famous actors.. it shows acting and story is more important than famous faces ?..Please go and watch it. You won't regret!

With it flaws and it strengths, it was fun while it lasts

First, i'm not rewatcher type hence the low rate in that aspect.
Second, i genuinely wish to give it higher cuz initially i thought my hall of fame would get a new member. Then at some point when that initial thought ceased, i thought at least this could be my highest cdrama rate this year. Well, at the end of the road, here we are.

Let's begin with plot. Be honest, it's not the best plot out there, revenge isn't my top trope for various reasons. To fully enjoy one need many factors and self resilience (lmao), For me this one is great, the way she focused on her revenge and executed every step is admirable. I don't mind the slow burn, it's on character imo. Actually both of them is so focus on revenge so romance department is a bit neglected yet the romance is there, out loud in the room, i can't say they didn't do romance at all. They made the whole fandom cheered from hands holding only, it takes time to build that level of anticipation.
Xue Fangfei's revenge plot is pretty neat. Once the goal was clear, the enemies were out, she just worked her way out till the end. Meanwhile Jiang Li's revenge plot is mild and sometimes feels like a filler, not entirely bad tho, we need a break from intense plot sometimes. Xiao Heng own story is a bit shallow for me. His revenge, his purpose, even his relationship with people around him isn't really in depth. It's obvious that he has less screen time than FL, in consequence we got lack of his story.

The acting. Dang, it's acting feast right here.
My first time watching Wu Jinyan and i really enjoy her performance. I'm enjoying her performance with Xiao Heng from the balcony lol. Wang Xingyue still did his thing, idk what to say but i always watch him play mature role beyond his age. He's actually so good at it so i still remember how dumbfounded i was when i learned his real age. He still has a long way to go and more diverse role but for now, he excel this once again.
Our psycho cp. They certainly own it. Wanning character is pitiful, her misery (mostly) brought by men yet she directed her resentment towards women and innocent people. Instead of therapy, she got another a̶s̶s̶h̶o̶l̶e̶ psycho as her company. Li Meng did a good job as psycho princess, at the same time i can still see innocent little girl craving for love from her.
About Liang Yongqi, goodness, I need time not to feel sick when i see SYR in the future. His empty guilt stare made many believe and give benefit of doubt to him at the beginning. Who knows he rose up as the most disgusting villain on my list. His audacity, cowardice and spineless behavior just beyond redemption. His character just pure evil for me and the actor brought it out thru his facial expression, voice and gesture. He's way too good at his job.
Most side character also did, at least, a decent job. I found it pleasing most people can deliver something.

To sum up. Yes it's kinda going down as the show reveal it flaws, however it's still exceed my expectation since i didn't expect to be this obsessed. You can come for the plot but the acting and chemistry has little to no flaw. I enjoy the ride, it was fun while it last.

could've should've ending ruined the last episodes of the series

i had to narrow down my ratings after seeing the last few episodes but overall it was an enjoyable watch. let me start with the strong suits of the drama that kept me watching:
- good acting by everyone from the main cast
- great cinematography
- interesting plot
- lovely support characters (i really liked that all characters had their own ambitions in this story . we even got flashbacks of their past which added a lot to the story)
- chemistry is out of this world
- moral of the story: don't trust men
- women were portrayed as smart people, especially XFF
now the things i didn't like that much:
- at some parts downplaying SA
- promoting it as an angsty romance (there was no angst since the beginning, only yearning)
- cheap cgi effects (but it's slowly becoming a trademark of a popular drama)
the biggest mistake writers ever made the messy ending of the show. they were trying to please core audience the book lovers and viewers at the same time. it ended up blowing up to their face
- SYR just offing himself after writers portrayed him as the obstacle
- WN's forced ab*rtion
- don't get me started on the battle scene where everyone got offed followed by peaceful epilogue of the leads

Must watch!!

Story about female lead getting a second chance at life meeting male lead in which they use each other in a kinda way and the way their romance progressed gradually was beautiful
-really was scared of 'wanning',actress killed the role
I know many ppl have said this but the age --difference between female lead actress and male lead actress wasn't a problem
-Top notch acting
-I would rewatch it again 😁
-i really don't watch historical cos same old plot:living different lives, reborn, etc was skeptical at first but loved it

This Is How You Do A Revenge Drama

This drama is one of the best Chinese dramas I have ever watched. The acting, cinematography, music, and direction; everything has been top-notch. The music album, including the background scores, was probably one of the best I have ever listened. It really elevated the viewing experience for me. The chemistry between the ML & FL was so good and natural. The adaptation from the original novel has been really good. Though I had read the novel, the drama did not disappoint me at all. I loved watching a different version of the novel. What I loved the most was how this drama treated the women. Regardless of whether it was the protagonist or the antagonist, all were written beautifully. Their flaws, pain, and sufferings were handled with dignity. You cannot like them, but you cannot hate them either. The acting from the entire cast was top-notch. Their pain, emotion felt deep and complex. The pacing was really fast, and though it slowed a bit in many places, it did not feel boring to me. The story did not lose its main focus, which is the revenge of the FL. This drama was an absolute visual treat.

Even if people are powerless, justice always prevails unjustness.

The Double (墨雨云间) is a compelling tale that revolves around Xue Fang Fei, who was buried alive by her own husband but miraculously survives, and Xiao Heng, who investigates to unveil the corruption in the imperial court. Together, they embarked on a journey of revenge in the rightful/moralistic way and uphold justice to avenge their loved ones and protect the people.

The main story's pacing is well-balanced, it did not start off too soon and ended too late which makes sense because of specific circumstances, and the side stories were explored and wrapped up just in time. The drama also have fascinating cinematography, clever dialogues, and well-matched OSTs. The production team also gave attention and put effort even to the smallest details. It kept me on my seat as I got invested right from the beginning 'til the end. It was also too unpredictable, I enjoyed the twists and turns which made me and most of the viewers patiently wait on how the story will unravel.

I love how The Double stayed true to what it promised (the synopsis), and never took a 180° when the romance partakes the plot (unlike other revenge dramas), showing its consistency.

While the drama is executed almost perfectly, flaws are still inevitable. I could scarcely fathom some things about the plot, like how she dug herself out of her own grave and teleport beside the river, or how the people she convinced to speak up for her father did not agree at night, but suddenly all of them agreed the day after. I think it would be best to think that everything in this drama does not have to be taken under realistic circumstances, but rather on the creative writing style and entertainment value. Moreover, it would be better if the ending was also wrapped up better. Even if I am used to rushed endings, I still had high hopes in this drama, which therefore made me feel quite a sense of incompleteness (and the extra episode still was not able to fill in the gap in me). However, I can overlook the minor flaws because of how well this drama has been made. I am satisfied with the overall outcome!

The cast did exceptionally well in portraying their well-crafted characters. Wang Xing Yue undoubtedly excelled in portraying Duke Su / Xiao Heng, from his glare and stance to his bearing and articulation, perfectly delineating the ruthless (who uses others as a pawn) yet humane side (who cares for the well-being of the people) of his character. On the other hand, Wu Jin Yan's performance as Xue Fang Fei / Jiang Li is truly remarkable. Her facial expressions, especially her eyes, conveys diverse emotions which shows how her character was grappling with conflicting emotions inside while restraining herself to be overwhelmed by abhorrence. Liang Yong Qi as Shen Yu Rong and Li Meng as Princess Wan Ning also have impressive wide range of emotions in depicting the different sides of their multi-faceted characters. They managed to evoke mixed emotions within the audience and feel what their characters feel (without necessarily feel pity to them). Chen Xin Hai as Ye Shi Jie is an intelligent and righteous character, though his character was not much explored in the drama as much as the first four that I mentioned above.

The characters, especially the protagonists and antagonists, were three-dimensional and each have their own complexities. They were intelligently created and explored in-depth. Their backstories are also well-built, allowing us to understand the motivations behind the decisions and choices that they made, making us either sympathize with them or not. Even some supporting characters have their own related arcs that were not related to the main plot but surely worth it to see.

I love the supporting characters who served as the great support systems of the leads, whom they went through the mill with. These includes XFF's friends Jiang Jing Rui and Liu Xiu (together with Ye Shi Jie), and XH's comrades Wen Ji, Lu Ji, Situ Jiu Ye and Emperor Zhao Ye, who surely made them feel the true essence of companionship.

One of the most substantial part of this show, in my opinion, was how the leads' relationship gradually developed. Their bond went through many stages, from being a pawn and a master, to being a secret holder and a secret keeper, to being allies who have each other's back, forming a sacred bond that transcended the mundane. Also, their fervent and palpable chemistry had us giggling and tickling as they flirt in their own poetic ways. As a couple, I also love how they are on equal footing — they trust and respect each other as individuals, which is crystal clear in the drama. Their slow-burn romance has a perfect blend of all its ingredients, just up to my taste.

All in all, it was a well-written drama that is worth it to give a try, then see for yourself whether it is up to your taste or not.

Intense & Stunning

THE DOUBLE is an excellent revenge drama filled with memorable characters, fascinating storytelling, and beautiful costumes and visuals. This series was truly an amazing show and will stand out among the many wonderful Cdramas.

“A county magistrate's daughter loses everything but regains her life by masquerading as a minister's daughter, overcoming injustice with help from Duke Su Xiao Heng, rescuing her imprisoned father, and upholding justice.”

This series really shines, especially with Wu Jin Yan as our lead heroine (as Jiang Li / Xue Fang Fei / Xue Li). She is such a great actress. I’ve loved her in just about everything I’ve seen her in since far (Story of Yanxi Palace, Legend og Hao Lan, Royal Feast). She really brings some extra intensity to her dramas.

Overall, this was a really great series with so much to offer the drama world. Highly recommended for fans of Chinese dramas. A great show, with excellent plot and compelling story. Highly recommended!

? The Double - A Tale of Deception, Power, and Redemption ?

🔹 From the very first episode, I was pulled straight into Fangfei’s world. Her struggles felt real enough that I kept asking myself what I would have done in her place.

🔹 Would I rewatch? Yes

📕 Overview
🔹 The Double is a 40-episode historical drama
🔹 Wu Jinyan plays Xue Fangfei, a woman who loses everything but refuses to let it break her
🔹 Wang Xing Yue plays Duke Su, Xiao Heng, whose path slowly becomes tied to hers
🔹 What stood out to me is how it blends romance, shifting identities, and political intrigue, yet still feels intimate and moving

🌸 How It Felt Watching
🔹 I liked how the drama balanced loyalty and justice with the courage it takes to start over
🔹 Some moments gave me hope, while others had me holding my breath

✨ Cast & Acting
🔹 Wu Jinyan made Fangfei’s journey feel believable and layered
🔹 Wang Xing Yue gave Xiao Heng more depth than I expected, making him more than the usual male lead
🔹 Their chemistry grows at a steady pace, which feels natural instead of rushed
🔹 The supporting cast added humor, tension, and warmth, making the world feel full and alive

🎵 OST
🔹 “Watching the Snow (观雪)” by Cyndi Wang
🔹 “Live On, Love On (活下去爱下去)” by ZHONG CHENLE of NCT
🔹 “A Life of Wisdom (一世聪明)” by Faye Chan
🔹 “Ink Rain Clouds (墨雨云间)” by Jing Long and Jing Di

☕ Tea Notes
🔹 For me, The Double isn’t just about romance or revenge. It’s really about resilience and finding the strength to begin again after betrayal

⭐ Final Rating: 10/10

💭 As SpillTheDramaTea ☕, I’ll be rewatching this one. Like tea, you come back to it again and again, the flavor only gets richer each time

If you watch only one cdrama in your life, let this be it!

I have to applaud the writers for the beautiful, sensible plot- not once did I think they were writing just for the sake of episode numbers.
The acting is phenomenal. Special mention to Princess Wanning, oh lord I hated her in every single scene and that's a compliment. Shen Yurong was so pathetic it was annoying (compliment!). Duke Su, I will be looking out for your future works. A Li, you carried the show well, both in plot and acting!!!

The ending was imperfect, better than most cdramas but I really hope the industry starts recognizing the importance of a good, well-rounded ending. A romance drama can not give 3 seconds of a romance ending and call it. The 5 min special is a treat but should've been part of the show.

But overall, it still has tremendous merit. Commendable job, to the whole cast and crew!! Hope the industry learns from you <3

Not The good chinese drama i have been looking for since 2024 started..

I must say the 40 episode length drama format was, is and will never be my type (okay never say never but damn i always force myself to finish the drama) ....So many things didn't make sense, we had really little of the romance (i wasn't there for the political plot or whatever since i knew from avenueX's review that to enjoy this drama you had to overlook that part and that is exactly what i did), and the messy ending..... I should listen more to avenueX in the future lol .
After watching all 40 episodes, i kind of regret watching this show, although i enjoyed the first 20 episodes, i think it could have been better, we the audience deserved better .
That said, i think this drama is overrated for me 7,5/10, 8/10 will be too much since i saw better dramas get a lower score here, so yes definitely 7,5/10!

A MUST WATCH!!!

This series was absolutely AMAZING!!! It had me on an emotional rollercoaster. I laughed, cried, was sad, and angry.

It captured the true meaning of selflessness, hardships, betrayal, and unconditional
love!!!

I will definitely watch this again. The cast, director, producer etc did a phenomenal job!!! One of the greatest period pieces I've watched so far.
