The prisoner of beauty - explosive chemistry and the best love story

Moony💕✨
Yet another drama in my plan to watch lists that I wasn't anticipating at all. I added this drama solely for fun without being aware of the plot. Later Liu Yuning's drama TSOPG aired and I really enjoyed his acting there. This was the main reason I gave The prisoner of beauty a try and didn't regret it at all. It was way beyond my expectations.
The story starts with the alliance between the Qiao and Wei clan that turned into hatred. To get revenge for the old grudges, the ruler of the Wei clan - Wei Shao decides to take down the Qiao family. Helpless, Qiaos seek peace through a marriage alliance. Can this marriage resolve the 14 years of hatred and bring a lasting peace?
When I first started the drama, I had no high expectations but, from the first episodes, I already knew it was a promising one. The story follows a love story more than a political story which made it way easier for me to follow with the storyline. The story includes tropes like enemies to lovers and arranged marriage. I enjoy both of these tropes so you can already guess that I was hooked. The tension and chemistry between the lead couple was insane. From their first meeting, you could see that spark- the chemistry! But, it’s not solely romance, it’s also the characters and the plot that moved me. This drama avoids common clichés and misunderstandings that often can be seen in other dramas with similar plotline. Characters are intelligent, calculative, emotionally strong and also receive massive character development.
I want to start off the base of review from the development of romance. As I latterly said, I like the fact that it’s more about a love story because, besides being easy to catch up with the plot, I think it made a strong base for the drama as well. At first, the couple didn’t trust each other. They had hidden motives and were very calculative towards each other. In my opinion, following with how they developed trust and started believing each other eliminated future threats. You could see a clear, step- by-step growths in their relationship. As they got closer, they started understanding each other more and more which helped them to overcome any misunderstandings.
The first contributor of the relationship was Qiao Man. She is a pretty smart and lovable character. Even though she was spoiled on her own home, she endured all the hardships for her family and country. Manman is a really caring person and a true beauty! She is patient and is really thoughtful. This is the reason why Wei Shao loves her so much and is willing to open his heart and show his vulnerable moments only to her. Even though Wei Shao is hard to understand, Manman didn’t walk away and changed him a lot. As a wife, she is thoughtful about her husband, but, as a woman, she had to the fate of two clans in her hands. She is brave, even with little troops, she supported him during the war by chasing the enemy away.
Wei Shao on the other hand is cold on the outside and kind on the inside type of character. Once he starts to care about someone, he fully accepts and protects them at all costs. He is not good with words but tries his best to express it through actions. His love language is acts of service for sure. Because of Manman, he started opening up and improved his relationship with his mother. His character arc was also really noticeable. His target was to obtain Yanzhou and start a war which could have harmed the lives of innocent people. After the change, he was willing to get rid of past grudges and seek peace.
I also want to mention our shippers also known as cupids. They added so much fun to the drama. I always enjoyed the scenes with them. Especially, when they give advice to Wei Shao about how to communicate with his wife. Those scenes never made me fail to laugh. They added a hint of comedy and laughter to the drama

Villains like Lady Yu lou and Liu Yan were pretty relatable characters. Both have suffered a lot growing up. One was only special because of a fake birthmark on the forehead and the other one was solely an option to be crowned but never the choice. As much as I pity them, I can't forgive their evildoings. Having struggled in life doesn't mean you need to do foolish and brutal things. Lady Yu Lou has always wanted to be loved but in her mind she wasn't. She was loved and cared for all the time but it was herself who caused the death of the people who cared for her. When she realized it all, it was too late.
The ending, in my opinion was really satisfactory. Unfortunately, we lost our favorite character - Wei Liang on the way. Despite that, I was happy that they were still spiritually together. Our main couple got the sweetest ending possible. The special moments they had with their daughter, Feifei melt my heart because of how adorable they were. At the last minute of the drama I loved what Manman said "He is willing to be my prisoner and I'm willing to be his". It showed that after so much they went through they became closer and stayed truthful and loyal to one another. Most importantly, people of the Central plains were finally in peace, no more wars or famine. It was such a beautiful journey that will never be forgotten!!
Finally, I want to talk about the acting and cinematography in this drama. I have previously watched one of the recent dramas of Song Zuer. I was once again impressed by her acting. You could read the emotions from her eyes. This was the same for Liu Yu Ning. Perhaps, this is the reason why they had so much chemistry together.
The scenes were taken from really good angles making it a really pleasing experience. The editing was not the best but it didn't ruin the drama for me. I was obsessed with the song in the intro, so I made sure to not skip it and enjoy the masterpiece. Overall, this drama was driven by a quite nice plot, acting and music. It's infinite out of ten for me. Sadly, I'll have to say goodbye to this drama and end this review here...

Foresee the ending, change the fate

A dream within a dream (2025)
I cannot believe that this drama has ended. It has been in my “plan to watch” list for a long time now. It unexpectedly started airing but, I was happy since it was another Liu Yuning’s drama after “The prisoner of beauty”. I came to enjoy his acting here too and luckily ended up with an intriguing story as well.
The story is about a “slacker” actress who happened to get a role with a famous actor. However, once she read the script, she realized how “trashy” it is. Unfortunately, the least expected happened and she transmigrated inside of the novel. She tried changing her fate as a Female lead who was treated like a plaything. She soon realized that her fate is unchanged but, something surprising happens towards the end…

The story might not appear as something new or refreshing, but it actually is. The beginning started with comedy and I saw many people dropping it thinking it was just another cliché transmigration drama. However, drama has a unique style. For example, I loved the way they mocked common and overused tropes like male lead does not die or falling off a cliff will not kill you. The side characters being named with alphabet letters is so funny. Unlike many other transmigration dramas, many characters knew that the whole world is a storybook, even if they found out about it towards the end. Especially the female lead explained all the story to the male lead was finally a common sense being used in such type of dramas. Another thing I love about this drama is that, it used a reference to other dramas like Bai Lu’s drama “One and only” and Liu Yuning’s drama “A journey to love”.

Besides its unique concept, the comedy was my favorite too. Although the drama does not heavily focus on comedy, it does not fail to make me laugh whenever there is a comedic scene.
As for romance between the leads, I would say they have a good chemistry. It is just that, we did not get enough of sweet moments after all of the misunderstandings between them were cleared out. Hesitation both from male and female lead was seen during the time they were building their relationship. Male lead was hesitating because his second identity captured female leads heart, not the real Nan Heng whom hated by many. Female lead was hesitating because of the future and the ending they could potentially experience. However, at the end we were finally able to see them facing the future together with trust and an unbreakable bond.

Characters & descriptions

Song Yi Meng or Song Xiao Yu – in my opinion, she was an amazing character. Her character development was good although many people found her to be annoying. However, I think the choices she made later made sense. If I transmigrated into a novel or a script where I have a horrible life, I would do worse than she did. She was slacker first, like she was in modern times but she has changed overtime. At first, she hated Nan Heng out of the fact that he was evil in the original script. Her avoiding Nan Heng was completely reasonable and it was to save her life as well. Next, she knew he was not evil, as he appears to be, however, there were other obstacles, which are iconic scenes. This time she truly changed. It was not out of her own greed or her precious life but because she cared about the other characters around her. Characters development was executed perfectly. She treated them as fictional characters as it should be but after getting to know them, she understood that they all are living people not solely characters made up for a story.

Nan Heng/ Li Shi Liu/ Nan Feng
Nan Heng is the character that suffered the most in this drama but he got justice later on. I saw NH as a closed character. He never wanted to explain himself to anyone even though he was framed or blamed. For this reason he created a persona (Li Shi Lui) where he could be free without anyone hating him. His second identity helped him discover the side of people where they trust him just like how he discovered Song Yi Meng is not as bad as she seems to be. From youth, he simply wanted a close friends and a good parenting figure who trusts him. Unfortunately, he did not have any of that until he built a group of nightwalkers. Towards the end, he finally ended up with his beloved person Song Yi Meng after taking the 99 steps out of 100 as Song Yi Ting said.

Song Yi Ting – I found her characters to be smart. I love one line she said “Humans can’t fall in love with idiots. They are another species.” She has her standards when it comes to love and I like her for that.

Shangguan He or should I say Chu Gui Hongs temporarily brother?
He is the funnies side character and a lovely cupid. He is good at giving advices that involve others love life except his. He just needed a little push.

Chu Gui Hong
Your typical righteous and protective second male lead? Wrong! Pure evil person. Since everyone’s characters differs from the original script so does his. He became so evil towards the end that he did not really have a purpose to get revenge anymore. He was full on fighting for throne and killing the innocent. I thought he would at least start to understand Nang Heng and make up for the old grudges but I was mistaken. I understood his intentions at first as he did not know about the whole thing that happened during the war but later? His actions were irredeemable, he had no excuse to be such an evil person.

Emperor
I thought he would get a proper reason for his bad fathering but I am grateful that he at least got a character arc and became a better father figure in the last episodes.

Nan Rui
His character was indeed unintelligent at first but I believe that he had good traits as person. He knew the difference between the righteous and evil. Lastly, I loved the fact that he was brave enough to save his father, the emperor in the end. Although, he is a character mostly seen as incapable, he did a very good job during the finals

Acting
Acting is of course top tier. Especially the main leads like Liu Yuning and Li Yitong. Liu Yunings acting seems to have improved a lot compared to his previous projects and he killed this drama with his acting range. The emotions? The way he expressed through his eyes is simply amazing, you can literally read them.
It is my first time watching Li Yitong except the time in Love between fairy and devil where she was a guest role. Here I think she played well as cheerful and comedic character but her crying scenes?? They were amazing. Both of the leads had a good chemistry and I can’t see anyone else playing their roles other than them.
Background music
The background music used in this drama are very unique and they even used OST’s from another project of Liu Yuning. The music effects never seemed unnecessary, just perfect!

Ending
It could potentially be the best ending among the transmigration or generally among the dramas I have watched. Like many commenters said this drama includes all types of endings possible. Happy ending, sad ending and open ending but bad ending excluded because I think it ended in the best way possible!!
Overall, this drama brings more refreshing take to transmigrations dramas with a well written story and amazing characters. It is overall 10 out of 10 for me!
I have been waiting for this drama but I am happy and sad at the same time that it ended. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful journey with all of the discussions with MDL people

May our love last every lifetime

When destiny brings the demon 2025 (16.08.2025-01.09.2025)
Review

When destiny brings the demon appears to be a classic transmigration drama but there are several reasons that it stands out from the rest. At first, this drama was not my priority because I had many other plans like “Legend on the female general” and “Shadow love”. Surprisingly, I only watched this one because it was the only story that could captivate me. Just like that it moved to my top priority drama.

The drama is about a girl who is a regular office worker. The fate is unpredictable and she transmigrates into a fantasy land filled with immortals just before a car crash. While she is learning new things about the world surrounding her, she comes across the Grandmaster, Sima Jiao who has been in seclusion for 500 years. In reality, Sima Jiao is a victim of 8 palace heads, who sealed him away to use his blood for cultivation. Everyone hopes to kill him or use him. In the time where everyone wants to harm him, why is she an exception? These questions make him wonder about her ulterior motives. Female lead, Liao Ting Yan on the other hand has no wish to kill anyone and just sees transmigration as an opportunity to go on “vacation” or a chance to slack off, “salted fish” in terms of Chinese.

The story is introduced with amazing CGI. It actually reflects something you would call a fantasy. Just like the main character, you feel like you have also fallen into this strange world. The plot is very balanced both romance and angst wise. Witty dialogues, although don’t last long, leave a memorable impression. I remember each comedic scene by heart.

The drama is divided into 3 eras: Immortal realm, demon realm and mortal realm. There the main characters go through different obstacles but one thing remains the same, they will fall in love with each other over and over again!

Not to say other eras were bad (They were all amazing), but among them all, immortal realm is easily the best. Angst, romance, comedy and discovery of soul bond. All together happens there and perhaps this completes it as the best episodes of the drama. Besides that, we get to see Ting Yan helping her Master Sima Jiao. However, at a times I wonder who the true master is because Jiao Jiao let’s her slack off often times. I need to also talk about truth spells, it is not for getting the truth out of people but to hear Ting Yan’s unpredictable thoughts. This scene is especially my fav:

- Look at them all. Each one would be a figure to be feared outside. But look at them now. How pathetic. What are your thoughts on this? *Truth spell*
- Your waist is so slim.
- What?
- I think you must have been locked away too long and starved into this shape
- You are not wrong. The pain I have endured will be repaid.

Another favorite scene of Ting Yan’s unpredictable thoughts:

- So you don’t want to come with me?
- It’s not that I don’t want to.
*Truth spell*
- Why don’t you want to?
- I’m afraid I might see dead people.
- A person from the Demon Domain is afraid of dead bodies?

Little does he know that she is from modern world.

The amount of truth spells used is quite a lot but Ting Yan pulls the UNO reverse card on him.
Honestly speaking, I’m glad that he has a truth spell. He is a very wary of his surroundings and suspects everyone. Not only that, the spell also adds a comedic sense so why not?

And the soul bond? They already mention it within the drama that it is the most intimate bond and I could not agree more. It is beautiful.

The second arc happens after all the angst and during that time Ting Yan loses her memories unfortunately and sees the villain as her father. Yet something inside her believes that it is all fake. Although, she doesn’t restore her memories even after trusting him, she knows that he only wishes the best for her and simply melts my heart:

- But I have lost all of my memories. Surely you have ways to help me recover them, don’t you? So why haven’t you done it? Wouldn’t that get you what you want much faster?
- True. But you deserve to move at your own pace.
- What if I can never recover my memories?
- It doesn’t matter. We have plenty of time. We can start anew.

The second arc is just not a memory loss but also a plan of their beautiful wedding.

- What is there to celebrate?
- How about a marriage between an immortal and a demon?
- Are you proposing to me?
- If you think of it that way, I cannot deny it.

Unfortunately, Sima Jiao’s life wasn’t meant to last long and Ting Yan’s life was in danger. Sima Jiao gave up his life to her.

He had a chance to live, but did she choose to save him at the cost of suffering the pain of spirit fire?
Yes, she did.

In this arc, Ting Yan had a character improvement especially after gaining power.
Then the story moves on the mortal realm arc where Sima Jiao is a crown prince without any of his memories. And now it was her turn to revive his memories. This arc could have had the best ending but on their wedding day Ting Yan gives up her life. To eliminate all the evil for him, just so he could live carefree without any worry just like how he protected her in the past.

She wakes up in the hospital room, confused whether all of it was a dream or a reality. Nevertheless, her job doesn’t wait but the person she was assigned to meet is Sima Jiao?

- I found you again.
- Do you know me?
- Of course I do

They say those lines with the brightest smile ever
This is meant to say that, in all lifetimes they will find each other once again and their heart belong to one another in every life.

This is the best ending they could give us since the censorship and I don’t complain because it leaves a little room for imagination. The favorite scenes I wrote above don’t sound touching but when you really see their acting, expressions, you will realize how deep it is.

Characters:

Liao Ting Yan

Definitely a sunshine characters. A Female lead who is very comedic and it is not forced at all. She is such a foodie. Her character is pretty unique to me because she is simply a salted fish. The actress did an impressive job considering it is her first xianxia/costume drama. Her longing expressions will stick with me for a long time.

Sima Jiao

Overpowered character but the plot balances it out. However, the superior power is what makes him the bloodthirsty and cold character. As Ting Yan said “cool king” as he is, he is also a major sacrificer.
“If I don’t let you die, you won’t die”

This man proved his point three times and he would do thousandths of times if needed. He is a very smart character and I noticed it from the start. He always plans ahead. He has suffered a lot, in the past in present yet he was able to contain it all to himself. Concealing his injuries. He appears to be a villainous character who kills for no reason but he had every rights to kill those people. Knowing his backstory, I would join “The dark side” too. The actor who played as Jiao Jiao is the first time I saw him and I’m looking forward to his next show. This should explain it all.

Eight palace heads

The real despicable people. These people are ruthless. They have been using the Sima clan, sealing them away for years, drinking their blood. Lucky for us, the first 10 episodes already contain some of their death which was satisfying but Shi Qianlv deserved much more worse death than just a simple quick death because he started it all, he was the one plotting behind all the time. He never truly cared about people’s sacrifices at all. This pathetic only thought of surviving and getting revenge was just a part of his plan. He was blinded by power.

Love story

I don’t have comment anything about it. It is simply done perfect and I myself watched it for this aspect. Every single interaction, kissing scenes are done to perfection. The way they both had wedding rings and how Sima Jiao learned to use her modern words!!?? Simply sweet!

Plot

Yes, expect a lot of potholes if you observe too much. For me personally, it was enjoyable without skipping a second. It wrapped up beautifully as well. I love xianxia with a good romance and I enjoyed it to the fullest

Costumes, CGI, make up, every single details is awesome

The song? Amazing. Love the fact that they put the same song in their first meeting and during their first meeting in mortal world. Same song different feelings and it was portrayed beautifully. It is my 2nd ever time loving the intro song. Something about this song is beautiful.

Ending- the best outcome for them. There is a little hope that Sima Jiao has his memories and it ends just like and the rest for our imagination. 10/10

Perfect combination of comedy, romance and angst!!

Moony💕✨
I randomly added this drama to my page and soon after it started airing, I watched with no high hopes but oh my, I was hooked from the first episode. The banters/interactions between the characters were amazing!!!
Acting. Actors/Actresses did a really good job. This is the reason why while watching this drama, I cried, laughed and felt everything with them.
Storyline. The storyline is perfect. Some regarded female lead as the weakest character, but I think it is totally otherwise. Every character has its place just like a puzzle and they fill the gaps. This drama uses a found family trope, and I love it! Also, the plot twists were really good and actually unexpected.
Romance. Male and Female lead have great chemistry even though there are no kissing scenes (I hope that it is not a spoiler). In my opinion ML's protective and FL's caring sides were just enough as the main focus is not about romance and when I say great chemistry, I mean it! (watch the series, trust me)
OST/BGM. I think the background music really made me feel like as I was a part of the series. (Especially "Little poem/verses" and "Unintentional big dream" available on YT with pinyin and English lyrics). While some liked the background music, some didn't. But I think it's tolerable.
Comedy. The comedy in this drama held a special place and every single joke characters made didn't fail to make me cackle.
Action scenes. The action scenes were incredible that I had to make a special passage. Firstly, I love the weapons characters used (even the weapons have their backstory and quite interesting one actually!) Secondly, the fighting scenes between main and second main male lead were very professional (They have trained a lot BTS to show us such masterpiece)
Conclusion. The drama has only 34 episodes, yet every character's backstory was clear and well explained. Is this drama worthy of your time? Heck yes!!
(Maybe there were flaws but nothing is perfect so, I rate it 10 stars)

✨The double✨?

Moony💕✨
The double (2024)
I don’t know what the heck I was doing by the time it was airing, and I didn’t get to discuss with mydramalist people. But still I picked this up in 2025 march out of boredom. Many dramas were expected to come out that month but there was no sign, so I jumped in for this one. I had watched so many edits of them, so it was quite interesting for me.
I have never watched romance and revenge as the main genre, so it was quite interesting to try a new one. I want to mention few things I liked about this drama
- First of all, we had characters that were despicable however they had their own background and as why they are like this now
- Justified revenge for all of the characters
- Not too fast or not too slow build of the romance, just perfect
- Banters between the leads. Especially their words with hidden messages and flirting
- Not physically but mentally strong/ smart female lead. The fact that she still gave a chance someone to fall in love with her because she knew he was the one which was unexpected. She didn’t push him at all, she knew she was a good man (Jiangli/ Xue Fang Fei/ Ah Li/ Little leopard cat/civet)
- Strong and smart ML and what I liked about him is that he let her go according to her plans and he didn’t interfere unless it was really needed. He knew what FL was capable of. (Duke Su/ Xiao Heng)
- Emperor who is loyal to his country
The latter was some things that I liked but there are more to go.
The justified ending was all I needed. Grand princess died so did Shen Yurong. Zhang Wei and other characters who betrayed their own country and people got their respectable ending as well.
I was also afraid that Xue Fang Fei’s fake identity might be a problem, but it was all resolved perfectly in the end.
I liked how they added the element of women standing for each other. Xue Fang Fei wanted to die before meeting Jiang Li and since the time she gave her a hope knowing what happened between her family, she decided to take revenge for both of them.
I thought Ah Li has lost everything, her father and her brother but I was content how they both survived.
Before watching the drama, I thought that Xiao Heng was a red flag type of characters. But I didn’t see that in him. He was loyal to both his country and his women. If you have paid attention to his interactions with women, you will see that how he respects them. He observes the show and admires how smart of a woman Xue Fang Fei is, and I love him for that.

Favorite scenes/ quotes
-Yesterday, you mutilated yourself. Today, you ask to be tied up. You are a bold one.
-Are you intimidated, Duke?

- This is the life that I'll use for the bet
-I introduced this physician to you. This is an act of betrayal, you know?
- If anything happens to you, I will take my own life in return.
- Die with me, huh?

"I already knew you liked me. But do you know that I like you?"

- You're so handsome
- How shameless

- I'll take you home
- I don't have a home anymore
- What a coincidence. I also don't have a home anymore.

- My rule is, I need to know the source of this map.
- I can guarantee it with my life.
- I've heard this kind of speech so many times.
- Xiao Heng!

- This is a fight to the death, without a thought of survival
- Xiao Heng, you are abandoned.
- Who said he is abandoned? The holder of the talisman shall die. Longwu army, remove your armor!
- The loyal soul of great Yan empire Xiao Heng
- Xue Fang Fei

"Ah Li said you were shallow. I can see that's true"

"I'll definitely remember your kindness. You look handsome when you're angry"

-Xiao Heng
- Ah Li

- I have never seen you this panicked
- This is not my business, it's your business.
- So, you mean I am very important to you.
- Xiao Heng!

"I have a soulmate. He is standing right in front of me"

- Duke Su, I thought you didn't like to ask around. Why monitor my every step so closely then?
- I don't even need to ask around. Once I hear of it, it feels unsettling.
- Then next time I'll bring some orange peels.
- What does that mean?
- To alleviate jealousy

- I don't care about Wanning
- I know. You care about me.

"Little Leopard cat isn't adorable when it cries"

"Your carriage leads to the road to the underworld. I dare not ride it again"

Reborn- a drame that lives up to its name

From when I first saw the trailer, I thought it was more about mystery but I was wrong. From the poster it looked like a fluffy high school drama. Both of my thoughts were wrong but I wasn’t left disappointed. I instead saw something I don’t see often in dramas. These things are bad choices, family arguments, parent’s wrong teachings and restrictions in teenage times. The dark themes are often ignored in many dramas and fluffy romance is more preferred. This drama takes up this job and executes it perfectly. It is these things that make the drama close to reality but I would say the female led, Qiao Qingyu had it difficult.

This youth drama excels at showing how you change from a teenager to an adult. It also emphasizes how young people have miscommunication with their parents and how it occurs frequently. The characters like Qiao Qingyu, Ming Sheng and Mumu were suffering exactly with this problem and they had to go against their parents. However, as they grew up, they started to understand them and relate to them. Going from hating them for their poor parenting to taking caring of them. I wouldn’t blame them for hating their parents as teenagers because they are not the only ones who made the mistake. Parents also can be seen trying to protect their child but in the process end up hurting them more. The drama beautifully captures this stage of life.

Qiao Qingyu is one of the bravest characters in the drama. I love the way she seeks justice for her sister and clears the honor of her family. She succeeds and achieves her goal despite being unsure whether her choices and consequences were worth it. She was silenced by her family and her actions were seen as immature. Gradually she realized all that and thought that some truths need to be hidden but, I don’t think she ever regretted revealing the truth of her sister’s death.

Qiao Qingyu’s parents are not necessarily a bad or a good character. They deeply care about their children but fail to express it. The care takes forms in shouting or restricting from everything. At the same time, I don’t think they are bad parents because how they are right now is a result of the bitter past.

Ming Sheng is a typical high school green flag who is always around the female lead whenever she needs him. That doesn’t make him a poorly written character though. I would say that he is kind and silently helps people. He overall has quite a lot of good characteristics. He didn’t have much of a problem with his parents but it was just a momentarily misunderstanding. He gradually learned the truth and his bond with his parents was repaired. Character arc, same as the female lead but it is set in a different background.

One problem I had is that; the drama was constantly changing its mind about tropes. It wanted to be a mystery drama once and fluffy high school romance in another or lean more into realistic side of growing up. The side romance and a little mystery trope was developed but not well enough to convince me that it is at least a side trope. However, I enjoyed the drama as it is.
I love the main couple’s chemistry together. They didn’t have many moments together and it felt like as if male lead was receiving less screen time yet we still ended up with an adorable love story.

Ending was just amazing. In my opinion, the ending was cherry on top. Misunderstandings were resolved and we were left with a happy family and a loving couple. I would say 23 episodes were just enough to avoid dragging but, at the same time it wasn’t enough! Reborn drama truly lived up to its name, the ending was just the beginning for them, like a fresh start...

Overall, I would give this drama a 10/10. Sure it had flaws but I think the well written characters and an interesting story covered for them

The first frost- we shape each other into our best version✨?

Moonly💕✨
After discovering fantasy dramas, I didn’t come back to modern dramas for a long time. This one however, brought me back to modern dramas again. It all started with two tiktok edits I saw about “The first frost”. I hesitated at first, but, after giving it a try, I realized that it is really different compared to other modern dramas I have seen.
The story starts with two high schoolers, Wen Yi Fan and Sang Yan. They study in the same class and become close friends with a hint of mutual love. They promise to enter the same University but a broken promise separates them. It was until they met again after 8 years when they saw each other again. Their second meeting was a second chance for them continue their unfinished love story…

This drama is all I could ask from a romance drama. Their journey together is simply amazing. Healthiest relationship I have ever seen.

Once they became roommates, all the fun started. Wen Yifan’s sleepwalking definitely helped them a lot! I shouldn’t forget about the guy whom Sang Yan borrowed a basketball from to impress her, literally the main reason they grew closer.
Although the plot focuses mainly on romance, there is a side plot about trauma and how it affects your life.
Wen Yifan was abandoned by her mother, left to her uncle and aunts care. Unfortunately, she was seen as an outsider and they have always been harsh to her. Losing her father and grandmother left her all alone. She was also SA’d by his own uncle as well as men who shared a flat with her. She couldn’t seek any help and felt insecure because all the people who should be close to her left her out and made her feel unworthy. This shaped Wen Yi Fan into a person who is distance from everyone, even her friends who support her wholeheartedly. She felt unworthy to be with Sang Yan but he put so much effort into relationship and made her smile once again. Sang Yan was explained as her sun and it couldn’t be more true. He supported her through hardships and became a man whom she is comfortable with. He gave his all to understand about her sleepwalking and didn’t want her to keep things for herself because it would hurt her more and more. He is a type of character that makes you say “He is unfortunately fictional”. It’s truly difficult to explain how good of a partner he is. He is considerate and caring. My all-time favorite scenes of him are of course his fighting scenes with the people who tried to take advantage of her. Sang Yan changed Wen Yifan so much. She was happy and radiant. Her wings were broken but he repaired them ❤️ There were moments of Sang Yan being so considerate and it gets better every time. Such moments always leave me in awe.
Wen Yifan also changed Sang Yan to his best version. He was unmotivated and didn’t want to study at all – a type of boy who only goes to school because of the person he likes. She gave him hope and he became the man he was today. Just like that a chemistry that is powerful formed between them.

The romantic scenes never disappointed. The hesitation and yearning for each other were done right. Sang Yan flirted first but let her continue and waited till she was comfortable enough to respect her boundaries. He was the only exception ❤️✨

Besides from the plot and characters I want to mention about acting and visuals. Bai Jingting and Zhang Ruonan’s acting is impressive because they were so much in their character. Another thing I want to mention is the intro and outro songs. Intro spoke Sang Yan’s thoughts while outro had Wenyifan’s words to him. I enjoyed how story slowly unraveled with a bit of their past life and their current life. I love how each episode had its title as well as Sang Yan or Wen Yifan’s pov to give us further explanation.

Sentences that simply melt my heart:
- I want to live 6 years longer than you.
- Why?
- That way I can love you for 6 more years. To make up for all the days that I left you behind

- Also, I don’t feel comfortable living with male flat mates.
- What about Sang Yan?
- He…He is an exception

- I know; I have a face that makes people want to commit crimes. But, we are both adults. Can’t you have a little self-restraint?
- I can’t

I enjoyed this drama so much and it is a 10 out 10 with no doubt!!

**✿❀ Love of the divine tree (2025) ❀✿**
★Started: Feb 7th and March 9th (The reason it took me so long to watch is because I literally had no time not because the drama itself is boring) ★
•┈••✦ ❤ ✦••┈•
Honestly speaking, it wasn’t the drama I was anticipating but it exceeded my expectations. I add up new dramas every month so it’s natural that I have lots of “plan to watch” dramas and it was one of them. I picked this up after Moonlight mystique as I had nothing to watch afterwards. At first, I was thinking that it’s an overused reincarnation, master and disciple relationship which I wasn’t wrong about, but the way they executed it was different. For example, it’s my first time seeing a character become a master of his own master.
Watching Love of the divine tree made me feel like as if I was in an adventure. Usually, many dramas focus on one problem till the end which makes it boring, but it wasn’t the case in this one. Whilst watching, I thought the main crisis or trouble we have to solve here is Su Yi Shui’s cultivation with ice lotus (emotionless mantra) that was preventing our main couple from being together, along with him being the demon’s child but there was a twist. I love how writer could keep the actual trouble for later. What I mean by that, is that throughout the story, the villain was well hidden even though they clearly gave hints. Wei Jiu and Su Yu were the people I suspected of being the main villain, but they were just a pawn.
I love how there was used the most annoying tropes (master-disciple, love triangle and an evil sister ones) but at the end it still was exciting to watch.
Romance was something I truly appreciated in LOTDT. I start to lose interest once main couple get together and it makes it feel like the storyline is not interesting enough to keep me there, but it was quite different here. They were kind of in love from the start and they had mutual love for each other for the rest of the drama, but I was engaged with story despite that because they were in a forbidden love situation. They had problems to solve before actually having a relationship and I think this is what made us reach out for more and more episodes. The romance was not just about the sweet scenes they gave us but also the way they understood and cared for each, especially the female lead. I love how they are not “all bark and no bite” when it comes to sacrifices, they are quite literally ready to die for each other and they both did die once for each other. (Lmao I can’t help but think of Su yi shui doing 360 to make sure she wasn’t injured). My favorite addition to their romance was how they both fell in love with each other again and again.
To sum it all up, I can say that it is a drama with pretty refreshing storyline with good plot twists. I’m not an investigator when it comes to watching stuff so as far as I know there were 2 plot twists that both surprised me honestly. I also want to talk about the cinematography and special effects and CGI which they spent all their money on to the point where they didn’t have money to advertise it. After all, I think it was worth it. Especially the first ever episode where they used some kind of animated drawing. The CGI’s (dragon, Ling xiao) were so good.

Characters & my impression
★Mu Qing Ge/ Xue Ran Ran★
Who says you cannot make a character that is cute but also strong and savage? She was the best character in this drama IMO. She was positive, kind, skilled and caring.
At the beginning, I had doubts that she is evil, and I turned out to be right.
When I saw her taking Su Yi Shui as her disciple, I knew from the start that she never wanted to kill him even if he became evil. After the reincarnation, she still stayed as bold and reckless as she was before. She was also the one who was able to keep her relationship with Su Yi Shui, no matter how he treated her because deep down she knew that despite all the harsh words, he was secretly and openly protecting her. Clearing up the miscommunications between them was also done by her. She is a good example of green forest FL. (This girl changed Su Yui Shi really quick, multiple times.). Her character was so well written that when she regained her memories fully, she became someone between Mu Qing Ge and Xue Ran Ran and I love how it’s well explained and the fact that she got to keep both of her characteristics. Voice actor made Mu Qing Ge and Xue Ran Ran sound different but also the same indicating that they are the same person and that was amazing

★Su yi shui★
He was some kind of a complex character but it’s understandable due to his background. Imagine being locked up in a room with a fierce beast for a long time. He was a red flag character at the start because of his childhood trauma. He was the character that had the greatest character development throughout this drama.
After Mu Qing Ge’s death, his character arc started. He repaid her kindness and faced his mistakes. Although he came out as a really cold and aloof character, he was there for Xue Ran Ran all the time. He might not be a good person, but he is the best lover. He didn’t like the things she liked before but eventually he started liking them and opened up just for her.

★Su Yu★
At the beginning, he seems like a character that is just there and doesn’t contribute to the plot, but I of course started suspecting him because there is no way he is just “there”. I was right. Although I have known that he would be somehow an evil character, the plot twist shocked me. His plan was well done. His backstory is really sad. He got betrayed by the person whom he saved. But what I didn’t like about him is that he was selfish. I was actually having 2nd male lead syndrome until I found out that Mu Qing Ge was also part of his plan. I think he understood his mistakes near the end because of Zhou Fei Hua. After all of that, I don’t feel good or bad about his sacrifice but just think that it was worth it. He was in this scheme from the start after all.

★Mu Ran Wu★
Here comes our FL’s sisters who claims that she doesn’t like her sister but insists on using her identity. She was right about fate being unfair to her, but she blamed her sister for it and that is where I don’t support her. I think her sister has done so many things just to keep them alive when they were kids. She was ungrateful. After all of her evildoings and being reborn with her sister’s power, she could have just let her go but of course her obsession with Su Yu made her to become an obstacle in Xue Ran Ran’s way again. She told Su Yu that he has to accept the fact that someone doesn’t like them and that they should cherish people around them. She doesn’t follow her own rules. I mean she now had the power that she has always wanted but she gained nothing from 2 lifetimes and made stupid mistakes. Despite the switch up of the roles, she was one who was still left out because she didn’t have character arc at all unlike most of the evil characters out there. At the ending it wasn’t clear how she ended up, but one thing I can hope is that the part of her life that wasn’t shown is the time where she gets a character development and revives her bond with Mu Qing Ge

★Wei Jui★
Funny side character! He is a character that wants to act like a villain but just a kind person deep down. He was an interesting character and the funniest third wheel. But his love life was a mess. Someone teach Wei Jui how to confess properly. He always said the exact opposite of the words he meant to say. Still, he was a decent character and I’m assuming that he confessed or apologized to Tu Jiu Yuan at the end. I was hoping to see more of them since Tu Jiu Yuan was pregnant but still glad to see those side characters survive.

★Other side characters★
Zeng Yi, Qiu Xi Er, Bai Bai Shan, Yan Liang Yu also played their part really well. Zeng Yi was a good disciple and a good friend to Su Yi Shui and the way he couldn’t say anything when he wanted to scold him every time was funny.
Qiu Xi er and Yan Lian Yu were another little side couple to keep it interesting. I like the Qiu Xi er’s ability to smell emotions. I think it added a little touch to the drama.
Bai Bai Shan taking Su Yi Shui’s position was kind of unexpected in the end, but I think he was worthy of it despite not being in the plot too much. He still proved his loyalty throughout the drama.

★Ending★
I'm just relieved that this drama got happy ending because first of all, they deserved it and second of not all the cdramas with similar genre get a happy ending. It ended perfectly without any side characters dying except for Su Yu. Our main couple finally get married, and we can also see them with their children. Just a little happy family. The ending could have been improved but it is good on its own. They could add the endings for characters like Mu Ran Wu, Wei Jui and Tu Jiu Yuan. Overall I can consider as a must watch 10 out of 10 drama

Moonlight mystique- a romantasy with a solid plot

Moony💕✨
It was truly an amazing Journey filled with kindness, killing, hatred, love, greed and a true love in a good way of course. There were many sacrifices on the way. My most hated characters became my favorites. Unfortunately, not all of them made it to the end. I hated the villains but envied their loyalty.
One of the biggest reasons why I enjoyed this drama is its solid plot. From what I have seen commonly, many dramas use comedy, bickering banters or unnecessary misunderstanding between the leads to fill each episode. But it was different in Moonlight mystique for various reasons
Main couple had a strong bond, trust and loyalty towards each other. If there was a confusion between them, they would talk it out and not just drag it till it makes a big misunderstanding -There weren't holes in the plot. It felt like as if by each episode the questions on my mind were being answered, everything happened for a solid reason
Perfect amount of romance
Lots of likeable characters with a good personality
I didn't really like the FLs personality at first, but it was her temporary boldness. She wanted to become stronger in order to avenge her father and she never gave up. I can't say that she was a badass female lead. She was more of a smart character but damn in one episode she saves Fan Yue from cold spring palace in a really gorgeous red costume which added up to the atmosphere and her lines were so smooth
"Even if I, Bai Shun, am just an ant, dying by your hand is not my destiny"
After this she launches an attack towards the enemy just like Fan Yue taught her before and Injures her opponent greatly. Other than the character, the actress Bai Lu did a really a good job. Especially the micro-expressions were on top. I also really liked how natural and touching her
crying scenes were.
Moving on to Fan Yue and his characteristics. It was the same with Elai Shuo at the start, I didn't really like his character because his attitude towards the FL wasn't good or bad, it was something in between which I didn't like but after 2 or 3 episodes it was all fine. As for his role in a
relationship, I would say he was a whole green forest. For example: When they were captured in an Outlander's city where the magic is restricted, he used his seven burning stars in order to protect her, risking his own life. He listened to her through a shell phone despite being busy and heard what she did throughout the day. The Fan Yue who appeared to be a cold-hearted character at the beginning turned out to be a faithful and trustworthy lover.
I also the appreciate the world building. Every single world whether it's a Bright moon palace, Cold Spring palace, Outlander's city or Bodhi village, they had their own aesthetics and cultures. I really like the costumes designed for each place.
Second couple's relationship seemed too complex, but it got better after Fu Ling regained her memories as Bai Xi
Revival process of Fu ling's and Bal Shuo's sisterhood was truly touching, unfortunately Bai Xi left Bai Shuo after a short time.
I think my mast hated and loved character at the same time was Fu Ling. She indeed made
unforgivable mistakes but deep down it wasn't her choice. From what I remember, there was a small detail where it shows tears falling down from Fu Ling's face when she caused her own father's death which meant eve without her memories, she still had a connection with her family.
Sadly, she had to die near the ending.
Ending was a happy one with a main couples wedding. They didn't ignore the characters that we have lost on the way but gave us hint saying that they might come back sooner or later. Overall, I enjoyed this drama. Maybe I didn't notice the flaws because it was my favorite genre and actress, but I think it deserves a chance to watch and re-watch multiple times. It was a 10 out of 10 for me in all aspects!

A lovely teenage drama.

It’s my third drama that was written by Zhu Yi and her dramas never disappoint. First, “Hidden love” and then “The first frost”. Now, it’s “When I fly towards you”.
I didn’t want to believe the hype but I should have and earlier. I watched it after finishing “The first frost” since I love loved it and found out they were written by the same author. I didn’t think it would make my heart melt. I thought that it was just a regular high school drama but it was so much better.
The friendships, the relationships – they are all well written. The story is not complicated yet beautiful. I have no words to describe how much I loved the friendship of the lovely quintet. I don’t remember the last time I laughed or smiled so much in another drama I have watched. It made me feel so much happy. It’s certainly because of the cutest banters they had between. The digital dairy that Su Zai Zai had is what I want to have as well. It contains so much lovely memories. I haven’t finished high school yet it makes me miss it already. Having friends like them in real life might as well be the best thing!
RangRang and ZaiZai are the cutest couple possible. It started from a little high school crush. It was lovely to see how they went through separations but ended up together in the end. Their confession and the embarrassment ZaiZai had to go through gave me second hand embarrassment but it was quite adorable on its own. Besides, this is the reason why the novel is called “She is a little crazy”
Jiang Jia and Gu Ran were also a cute couple. The way they didn’t admit their feelings but the way they cared so much about one another was like a silent confession. I adored them so much.
Guan Fang, another well written character. The fact that he changed for his grandma gave him the best character arc possible and he is surely the best 5th wheel among the two couple!
Overall, it was the best mix of high school, growing up and friendship drama. It is so sad that it ended quickly but I understand that it was to make the drama less draggy. The drama ended in the best way possible and the proposal, I don’t even want to explain how lovable and unique it was. I regret how I finished this quickly but grateful for watching it at the same time. Simply the sweetest masterpiece!
