Best story of the 3 related shows….
Comparing this to both Ancient Love Poetry and The Last Immortal, I would say the story in this one was the best of the 3. Although all the stories are interconnected, they are all still written as standalones and can be judged separately. The Good
The character building, development and world building is what stood out the most to me in this show. I appreciate that each important member received a backstory, from Bai Shuo, Fan Yue, Cang Shan, Tian Huo, Qi Feng, Mu Jiu, Bai Xi and Chong Zhao. The directors allowed us to be able to connect with each character through their separate journeys which does elevate this story of the 3. The acting was also decent in here. Everyone did a good job at portraying genuine emotions with some characters shining throughout (Dai Lu Wa was definitely the star of this show). I enjoyed both sibling arcs of our main leads with damnation, redemption and sacrifice. It was truly heartbreaking to see. The relationship between our main leads was also written much better than most xianxias. No random break ups or misunderstandings. The two characters relied on and trusted each other throughout the whole show which was nice to see. I definitely enjoyed the soundtrack in this show. It helped elevate the scenes.
The Bad
There were some plot holes for sure. These were plot holes independent of the other 2 shows but things the director probably messed up on or just forgot the logic on. Happens in a lot of fantasy shows though. Wish the CGI could have been consistent. For the most part, it was decent because the production value was higher but when it came to the hidden power, the black goo looked terrible. Some of the characters lacked depth and were too one dimensional as an example, like most of the eternals were and especially characters like Mo Li. It makes some of those characters uninteresting to the story and hard to connect with because their motivations are too basic, making them hard to relate to, care about and unreal. This xianxia still followed much of the same formulas of past xianxias. I’m still patiently waiting for something new and fresh because I like the genre.

Second only to Love in the Clouds
Going in, I expected another xianxia tale built around fated romance and star-crossed lovers. What I got was all of that but with enough twists to feel genuinely fresh. I DID NOT EXPECT TO CRY.The central story does revolve around a fated romance, but what makes MM stand out is that it's really the supporting female lead's story at heart. The characters don't just surrender to destiny either, they push back, make real choices, and find their own paths. It kept the emotional payoffs from feeling predictable or cheap.
Bai Lu as the female lead is simply outstanding. She brings warmth, depth, and a quiet strength to her role that anchors the whole drama. Ao Ruipeng, meanwhile, doesn't have many lines but watching his gaze gradually soften over the episodes is quietly mesmerizing. He does a lot with very little, and it works beautifully.
The second couple's storyline is a genuine highlight too, complete with a plot twist I did not see coming. And the clan backstories, rather than feeling like lore-dumping, actually help you understand and care about the world you're in.
Production-wise, the makeup (and costumes) is stunning throughout - clearly a labor of love.
MM sits at the top of my xianxia list, second only to Love in the Clouds. This one is absolutely worth your time.

The plot delivers its message of love and sacrifice without being preachy. Moreover, it keeps suspense via subplots and surprising twists.
My two cavils : Some of the divergences dragged out to long, and I found the righteous clans uninteresting.
The drama overall is well worth watching.

A drama with a beautiful story and great visuals.
(I watched this drama in January, 2025 and forgot to write a review, so here I am).Intro:-
The drama follows the story of a mortal girl who wants to become an immortal. Her journey is filled with different challenges and we get to see a strong female lead who overcomes every hurdle with bravery.
Strengths:-
1. I loved that in this drama, every female is smart, strong, and mature. Mostly, we see that the females "especially the female leads" are shown as childish, but believe me this drama has all the strong females.
2. The relation between the leads is mature and beautiful. They have no misunderstandings.
3. The 2nd leads are my favorites. Especially, the 2nd female lead. She was awesome.
4. The world-building of this drama is beautiful. I actually liked that in this drama we get to see demons as main characters. They are more powerful than the so-called good eternals.
5. The performances are convincing.
6. The costumes are great.
7. The visual quality is great.
8. The OSTs are genuinely enjoyable.
9. I personally loved the last ten episodes.
10. A beautiful and strong story.
11. It's a happy ending for the leads.
Weaknesses:-
1. The start might feel boring, but after two episodes it will get better.
2. I feel like the ending could have offered a bit more closure.
3. The pacing got slower in some episodes.
Themes:-
Never give up on your goals (Female lead, Core plot).
Kindness and selflessness (Female lead's father).
Good VS Evil (Core plot).
Compassion bridging races.
Becoming powerful through hard work instead of being born with special powers (for both leads and other characters).
(These are some themes I highlighted without spoiling).
Final thoughts:-
If you enjoy:
Strong and mature female characters,
A healthy main relationship,
A unique second-lead storyline,
Excellent world-building,
Beautiful costumes and top-tier visuals...
Then this drama is for you!

THIS BROKE MY HEART INTO A MILLION PIECES IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE AND I'D DO IT AGAIN ??
I honestly don't even know where to start from. This drama was perfect in every sense from the casting to the chemistry to the special effects to the visuals everything was top notch. The chemistry between the main leads Fan Yue and Bai Shuo was so amazing OMG I loved them together. I also loved Bai Xi and Zhong Chao together. I literally cried so much while watching this drama. WHY DID EVERY SIDE CHARACTER HAD TO DIE WTH😭💔. I'm so happy that at the end they got their happy ending but what was the fault of other characters. Xi and Zhao deserved to live a happy long live with each other my shyalas. She suffered so much on the hands of Zhen Yu and then she didn't even get that much time with Zhao and Shuo. The past story of Xing Yue and Jing Yuan was also so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. And one thing about me is that I live for these kinds of heartbreaking stories. Like wdym they were fated to meet fall in love and then he was going to die (talking about Fan Yue) . Tian Huo and Mu jiu deserved to live a peaceful calm live travelling the world together (in my mind they are). I honestly loved the writing and how well every character was written. They weren't just there for the plot, the side characters also had depth and were complex with their own backstories. Also the villains weren't just there for the sake of being bad, they had a history and a motive, don't get me WRONG I still hate Mo Li. Overall, this was my first fantasy CDRAMA and it did not disappoint. Was this review helpful to you?

amazing world, outfits, interesting characters, but unfortunately falls apart
A very captivating and beautiful world that had a lot of potential. I think it could have been an unforgettable show if it weren't for the fact that the writing was not very good. i really loved the idea of the characters, the demon lord with a tragic past, a human that breaks the rules and climbs up the ladder ( although to be fair was kind of just given to her as the chosen one), and the redemption of A Xi in the cold palace. I also thought the the actor who played Cheng Zhao did an amazing job and I hope he gets some good roles in the future.Because of those things, I gave a better review then I would have, because the writing really gets bad especially when they get to the fox clan. Every character except Bai Shuo just starts dying and it just starts to get boring because you're just watching people die over and over and everything just exists for the main characters pretty much.
The story about Mu Jiu's parents was sad, but acceptable as a sort of ancient Roman tragedy.. but it should have ended there. His parents deaths was already a tragedy, and then insane efforts were put in to save him and keep him alive for 1,000 years and his aunts husband even sacrifices himself, and then he just commits suicide out of survivors guilt. Even though he had a marriage and whole life ahead of him while his aunt on the other hand was left alone by her sister, husband, and friends and had spend 1,000 years keeping him alive and now she doesn't have him either. It played it off as a beautiful sacrifice (as a prelude to the next many to come), but in reality it was just frustrating and tiring. You've already gone though a whirlwind and have been built up so long expecting this dude to survive. When he said he was going to become responsible after learning the truth I though for a minute he was going to learn magic and become the clan leader but ofcourse not.
Then the rest of the characters just start dropping like dominoes. It's too hard to get into the show after that point because it's like they think you only care about the main characters even after building you up with especially A Xi and Cheng Zhao. I even kind of liked them better than the main leads, which kind of became overkill with sappy scenes and corny piano music.

Chef's Kiss
I absolutely loved the opening episodes (1-5) of Moonlight Mystique! Waiting for the next episode is such a struggle, but it’s been a year without a Bai Lu drama, so here I am. Plus, Ruipeng is so handsome—I’ve been a fan since Blood of the Youth, so I’m excited to see him in this role.First, let’s talk about the female lead (FL): Bai Lu is absolutely killing it as Bai Shuo. She’s strong, smart, and super observant. By the second or third episode, she’s already piecing together the male lead’s (ML) plan, which shows how sharp her character is. Bai Lu looks stunning, and the outfits and makeup department deserves all the praise—they left no crumbs. Her line delivery has improved so much since her last drama, and I even found myself tearing up during her father’s death scene.
Now, the male lead: I know some netizens were hating on Ruipeng for taking this role, but I think he’s doing a fantastic job so far. His chemistry with Bai Lu is off the charts! He’s playing a no-nonsense demon, and he’s been serious and intense, which fits this role perfectly. I’m really excited to see how his character evolves as the show progresses. Honestly, every time he says lines like, "Don’t dare touch her—she’s mine," I couldn’t help but squeal. That dominating, commanding aura he brings to the character is everything this role needs.
Also, shoutout to his costume design! The dark purple, black, and blue color scheme suits him so well—it’s just chef’s kiss. The costume department really outdid themselves. On top of that, the lighting and color scheme of the drama are gorgeous.
The OSTs are also amazing—super pleasing to the ears. I noticed that I wasn’t skipping parts like I usually would in other dramas, which says a lot. The pacing is great, not draggy at all, and every scene contributes to moving the story forward.
The fight scenes? Wow. I especially loved the ones between Fan Yue’s subordinates and Chang Zhao. The CGI is surprisingly good—not overdone, which can be rare in xianxia dramas.
Overall, I would definitely recommend Moonlight Mystique. Xianxia dramas don’t usually grab my attention this early on, but this one has me hooked!

Try The Blossoming Love instead
This was a classic idol vehicle to highlight BaiLu and Ao Ruipeng's visuals. I think BaiLu cried more often in this drama than any other!... It tried to be fresh with dark moody sets and costumes but it streeeetched out the angst and guilt of nearly all of the characters. Watching The Blossoming Love at the same time, with many similar themes of clan clashes, found it was far more intriguing than this even though it was called Mystique....just my opinion! Was this review helpful to you?
Mmmh Yummy
It was pure eye candy, no doubt about that.I’m not even gonna get into how trash the CGI is in 2025—let’s just say they clearly didn’t have the budget for it. 😒
That aside, the acting? Chef’s kiss. It legit brought tears to my eyes during that first contemplation. The characters? Written so well, they felt alive.
Now, I’ll admit, the pace kinda hit fast-forward in those last 10 episodes. But hey, even after sitting through 40 episodes of painfully obvious CGI, me and my eyes are still feeling blessed. 👌
