The acting is so over the top and stiff that it feels like the cast is reading from a script instead of bringing their characters to life. The cinematography is no better every shot is either too dark or too bright, with no sense of artistic direction, making it feel more like a soap opera than a grand historical epic. The CGI is laughably bad I’ve seen more convincing special effects in a 90s video game. And don't even get me started on the casting it's painfully obvious that the actors are way too old for their roles, which completely ruins the believability of the story. Instead of feeling immersed in a historical world, it’s like watching a group of middle-aged people trying to play pretend. This drama fails on every level. Well i don't know if it will be good in the future episode i will still continue to watch this though this was just my opinion no offense to anyone.

Gorgeous cast, beautiful costume, beautiful makeup/hairstyles but way too many deaths.

I love the cast, one of the rare Chinese dramas where I like all the main cast (Bai Lu, Ao Rui Peng, Dai Luwa and Chang Hua Shen). The costumes and makeup in MM is insanely beautiful, I really want to know the name of the person in charge of it. The story is interesting but also feels forced in many aspects. It also turns repetitive, everyone in this drama is so eager to die, the death counts are crazy, almost everyone died, even Fan Yue died twice, nobody has a good ending except for FY & BS. But it doesn't truly feel like a happy ending when everyone else died imo :(

Love the cast, love the music, LOOOOOVE THE COSTUMES & MAKEUP but I don't think I would ever watch a drama written by Xing Ling again xD

OK WHAT. This shocked me. I was not expecting this show to be this good. I watched it bc it was one of Bai Lu's highest rated shows and a new 2025 one and didn't expect anything out of the ordinary. But this literally almost deserves a 10. If I could rate it somewhere between 9.5 and 10 I would. But literally, Moonlight Mystique is amazing. Idk where they got that flowery extravagant name from which made me have a little speculation about the show, but it did not mean anything bad. Thankfully. Everything in this show is basically perfect. I thought Fan Yue (Ao Ruipeng) would stay dead and leave Bai Shuo (Bai Lu) to live her life alone in a cottage, but he returned as a real person at least, not a random ahh vision who appears under a tree shrouded in light. At least we get clarification that he's real unlike so many other xianxia dramas that have made me suffer through that typical "died and mysteriously appeared again" endings. The ending of a drama is really important for me tho idk why, but for this drama specifically was maily bc I lowk just needed closure after both Fu Ling/Bai Xi (Dai Luwa) and Chong Zhao (Chang Huasen) died painful deaths and I was expecting Bai Lu to kill her man to save the world which is not something she hasn't done before (cough cough TTEOTM), but Moonlight Mystique is genuinely good. There's no unnecessary drama between the two, the feelings get acknowledged, and the development between both main couples is well thought out. Shoutout to Tian Huo (Zhang Xin) who is dead, and the two ppl who liked her: Cang Shan (Cheng Tao) who is dead too and Mu Jiu (Chen Hongxin) who is dead three. Everyone close to the main couple are all dead. And that 1000 year turtle. Which I lowkey felt bad about. But overall, 100% recommend this show, go watch it now, it's really great.

A Stunning fantasy drama by excellent direction

Moonlight Mystique is a beautifully made drama that combines strong performances, impressive visuals and thoughtful direction.
The director’s skillful storytelling balances the mystical elements with emotional depth allowing the characters and plot to develop naturally without feeling rushed.
Their attention to detail in pacing and atmosphere really enhances the viewing experience making the drama feel immersive and captivating from start to finish.
Bai Lu as Bai Shuo portraying her character with a perfect mix of strength, vulnerability, and charm.
Ao Ruipeng as Fan Yue brings a mysterious and captivating presence that adds layers of intrigue to the story.
The chemistry between the leads feels genuine and keeps you invested in their journey.
The supporting cast also does a great job, contributing to a rich and believable world.
Visually, Moonlight Mystique is stunning. The sets, costumes, and special effects are all meticulously crafted, creating a vivid and magical atmosphere that pulls you deeper into the fantasy realm.
The director’s ability to weave these visual elements seamlessly into the narrative helps elevate the drama beyond typical genre fare.
Even though some plot points feel familiar, the emotional resonance and character arcs make the story feel fresh and engaging.
Fans of fantasy romance will appreciate the emotional journey and the captivating world the director has crafted.
It’s definitely a series I would recommend and gladly rate a 9.0 for its many strengths.

Bai Lu is so cool and amazing.

Bai Lu is so pretty. Only reason I could watch the show. Otherwise the vast no of deaths in the show, I'd drop it without any second thought. Why unnecessary kill so many loving support characters? Just to make story impactful! Parents, friends, lovers, teachers, entire clans; the writers keep killing every few episodes, Shame!

I have seen better

I wasn’t planing to watched this, didn’t look interesting to me, but watched it anyway mostly because of the hype and I have an objective of watching as much as cdrama as possible in 2025😂😂

So what I liked :
- Acting was fine
- costumes looked great
- the colouring and cinematography was pretty
- maybe overused, but the ost was good
- like the intro
- great cast
- the different friendships, the bond with ML and TH and ZS
- Fu Lin and CZ : He was annoying at the beginning, classic delulu one sided love SML. She was doing very evil thing. I think the worst for me was probably when she made him kill that guy, that whole scene really. I was like, how can we go back from that. But honestly, her story in the end got me. The actress was really good and her costumes/make up was so beautiful in the later episodes. The only times I almost cried was scenes related to the seconds lead if I remember correctly… I think that was good how they made her be the bow. It was always close to FL all this time and him, falling in love with the weapon meant to kill him. I came to like this couple and their story.
- the side characters and side story we uncounter through the plot
- the best thing about this drama I would say is the romance and relationship between the leads : it developed well and it started relatively early. Pretty healthy and good relationship, which is not often seen in xianxia, I really appreciated that. Good communication, no misunderstanding or breakup. Helping, protecting each other. The proposal scene was beautiful. Just for that, I am gonna give this drama a bit more point. Skinship and kissing scenes was relatively good. They always edit kissing scene less good then are they are in reality in cdramas. Chemistry was average though
- enjoyable characters in general
- think the villain was somehow interesting

Negative point for me :
- don’t think the plot in general was that interesting and somehow boring
- the past was disappointing to me. So what was the point of Xing Yue and Jing Yuang ? Though this was about reincarnation/ falling in love again, reuniting after 60000 years, but in the end, FY is not JY, he was just a normal child that was like possessed by JY for some time, BS is also not XY ?
- didn’t really find either the flashback and XY and JY story interesting

Other random points :
- all the deaths didn’t really bother me, think it also gave some good scenes and moments and some sadness, sacrifice. But still was pretty intense killing everyone off except the leads
- ending was okay to me, the added wedding clip was cute, but just felt like to me dropping a clip, not that satisfying.
- didn’t feel that invested or emotionally attached to the leads. Some drama I can be glued to my screen or giggling because the chemistry is so good to me, or the love story of the leads is so beautiful to me, makes me emotional and feeling their story or I found the plot more engaging or there is something that just catch my intention or stand out (I have some in minds). I don’t know, something or whatever was missing to me, even with the great relationship between the leads

So, definitely not the best cdrama or xianxia I saw, but still a fine watch

A Feast for the eyes!!

If there is a must-watch Xianxia drama every year, Moonlight Mystique undoubtedly earns this honor for 2025. The plot unique and characters are wonderful, the love story between Baishuo and Fan yue is pretty much a beautiful forbidden love, their relationship is different from the usual toxic relationships in xianxia dramas, they have such a mature relationship, they respect and love each other and that's the good thing here, the visual affects are one of the best so far and the acting is great.

A love that transcends beyond races, ages and times!!

Moonlight mystique is an excellent xianxia masterpiece, in my honest opinion.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Though in the beginning, I felt a bit confused, the latter half totally engaged me in the story and twists and turns. I truly enjoyed watching the Outlander's, stone clan, bodhi village and the divine race arcs.
The costumes were excellent matching with beautiful sets that perfectly suit for the plot.
The special effects and action scenes were superb.
All the actors were truly fabulous in their performances. Bai Lu, Ao Ruipeng, Dai Luwa, Chang Huasen and others were excellent💯
A special mention to Han Dong for effortlessly playing a sinisterous antagonist👌
The drama takes us on a journey of Bai Shuo who, meets Fan Yue and together gather contemplations for their own purposes, in the beginning, but face many hurdles and life and death situations and heartwrenching separations, and gradually uncover their past life and finally putting an end to evil, therefore, establishing peace in the world.
Truly a MASTERPIECE!!
I am sure you will enjoy each and every moment.
Kudos to the director and everyone🤗for such a beautifully crafted, marvelous xianxia drama!!

The familiar troupes with some nice surprises

Got better towards the middle. Some interesting story bits regarding the villian, the sister and the lotus which was unexpected. The usual troupes but thankfully some restraint on level of misunderstanding. Sacrifices are better thought out than most dramas. Dangly bits in the hair was a bit annoying but thankfully the FL didn’t sleep in it, unlike another drama she was in.

The make up trend of shading the eye-nose bridge area (rise of ning) is here as well.

ML is good. Nice love story and no unnecessary jealousy. Glad the second ML got his own love story as well and I liked his story of how he ended up with the sister - a little twist that was quite well done.

Also loved the little Fox and his story and his sacrifice.

I enjoyed this fantasy drama

LIKE

Similar to Qing Mu and Hou Chi but the main switched with sides this time

Every death and parting had me cry till death

Poor Ah Xi lives a miserable life all her life

Annoying cliches but I still enjoy watching every sacrifices

A long time ago, Ah Xi already revealed the true identity to us

Yin Zhun the snake so loyal just like Bai Zhe clan who is loyal to Demon God

Yin Zhun probably likes Ah Xi unknowingly - I kind of shipped for them

DISLIKE

Nothing much

MUSIC - my fav

花落无痕 Hua Luo Wu Hen - 萨顶顶 Sa Ding Ding
相拥不放 Xiang Yong Bu Fang - 周深 Zhou Shen
爱不悔 Ai Bu Hui - 井胧 Jing Long
月下 Yue Xia - 不才 Bu Cai
月光曲 Yue Guang Qu - 陆虎 Lu Hu

REWATCH VALUE

If I have the time, I may re-watch some day
