The ending

This is my first time leaving a review. I just wanted to express what I feel after the ending. They were too many sacrifices. I understand that they had to happen for the plot but they could've been less. It was really emotional for me even tho I only teared up. I really loved it tho. After watching till the end of the moon I felt the same way. But in MM I felt less sad since atleast they got their "happy ending" (even with all the deaths of these great characters) unlike TTEOTM. It'll take time to move on but I'm glad I watched it. It can really change your perspective of some things, especially love. With the story of jing yan and xing yue they proved that even with immortality love doesn't wait. We have to live in the moment and love while we have the person next to us. A really great xianxia that I wouldn't want to rewatch cuz of the pain! If I do rewatch it it'll be after years maybe. It deserves 10/10!

First Time in Xianxia drama NO Misunderstanding Between Leads.

After one year, I watched a Xianxia drama, the last one was from the same universe, The Last Immortal. At first, I was hesitant to watch it because it has a 40-episode side effect of watching K-Drama, which usually has 16 episodes. But in the end, I watched it. Honestly speaking, I didn't regret watching it. It was good. The CGI of the drama is good. For me, having decent CGI for a Xianxia drama is important. Because that's the first thing I noticed.

The  Best Thing about it was that NO Misunderstanding Between Leads, which is very rare in Xianxia dramas or C-dramas. C-Drama is known for creating unnecessary misunderstandings between leads. The 1st drama I watched which had zero misunderstanding between the leads was The Starry Love. Both the dramas have the same director for which some settings or places are similar.

One thing I have noticed is for both the spin-off dramas that cast the top 2 popular actresses as leads. Which helps both the dramas to be in hype.

Love the background song sung by Sa Ding Ding.

I've no complaints about Bai Lu performance. She always slay in her characters. I love that Bai Shuo isn't a timid nor a crybaby female lead. She is smart, uses her brain, calculative, mature. In most of the C-Drama, FL is shown as a timid, foolish, immature character for which lot of misunderstandings happen. As Bai Shuo is a smart & mature person who thinks about every move that Fan Yue takes for which there was no misunderstanding between them.

I never noticed that Ao Rui Peng is so tall. This is my 3rd time watching him after Wrong Carriage, Right Groom & The Blood of Youth. There I never noticed his height. Here his height is very noticeable. He played Fan Yue very well. Also, his & Bai Lu chemistry is also good.

One great thing is that Chong Zhao didn’t lie to Bai Shuo that the poison was spread by Fan Yue. Instead, he chose to tell the truth. Usually, in most dramas, this is how 2ML creates misunderstanding.

Chang Hua Sen is again playing a positive & negative character.  I liked his portrayal of both Chong Zhao & Mo Li characters.

Overall, I liked the drama. Really enjoyed it.

A Fantastic Tale of Love & Forgiveness

I'm not a huge fan of Bai Lu but I started watching this show in between waiting for epidoses of Pursuit of Jade to drop. Moonlight Mystique presented a far superior contrast in storytelling & character development, & is a reminder of how there are very good shows out there that don't get a lot of hype.

Bai Lu plays Bai Shuo, a human noble woman destined for great power. She holds the key to the survival of the fatally cursed Demon King, Fan Yue, played by Ao RuPeng. Together they go through the steps of tribulation & ascendency of Bai Shuo in a series of challenges that further develop the back stories of all of the characters. I liked the balance of each character's storyline, such that there was no wasted time or stalling of the pacing in the show in general.

This drama is as bloody & gruesome as xianxia's can get, but all of the characters demonstrate that a balance of good & evil is present in every individual. Too many believe that beings can be divided neatly into distinct groups that don't mix, ie humans, demons, & eternals, but the main characters all exhibit mixed properties & attributes that don't fit "standard norms". Somehow there's strong message in this for our modern society, that people in our big wide world can't be categorized separately.

No action is what it seems & everyone does things to each other for a reason. Revenge killings are ever present but what transcends is the power of forgiveness. This seems to be the core of the story. It does get heavy on the melodrama, however, with a seemingly endless body count & characters dying repeatedly. It turns out the main characters are reincarnations of 60,000 year old supreme dieties, destined for yet another final showdown. The ending might not be satisfactory for some as it falls deeper into trajedy than most other stories, but neither is it a wrong ending as the whole drama starts & finishes with Bai Shuo. It wasn't until the end that I realized how much ground this drama covered, with Bai Shuo remaining true to herself in spite of all she that she goes through.

Overall, Moonlight Mystique was captivating to the end & is one of Bai Lu's better dramas.

Light yet Enchanting

Moonlight Mystique follows the journey of Bai Shuo, a human clan, and Fan Yue, the Demon Lord, as they collect all five emotions for the Wu Nian Stone.

This is my first xianxia drama that I've actually finished. I'm not usually into costume dramas or the fantasy genre in general. I've tried some popular xianxia dramas before, but the stories were too hard to follow, so I dropped them all. Moonlight Mystique was different for me, the story is light, easy to understand, and beginner-friendly. The conflicts are clear and not overly complicated.

Another thing I noticed is how pretty everything looks, the costumes, settings, and CGI are all great, colorful, and visually stunning.

I also love the message the drama conveys, no matter your origin, you're the only one who can decide who you want to be.

Overall, this drama has some flaws here and there, but it's still really enjoyable to watch

Still Thinking About It… and Still Watching Every TikTok Clip

I didn’t expect Moonlight Mystique to stick with me the way it did — but here I am, weeks later, still thinking about it. And every time the theme song pops up on TikTok, I have to watch every single clip on my FYP. That’s how much this drama got under my skin.

The romance and chemistry between the leads was so well done — full of longing, tension, and emotional pull. You could feel their bond evolving in every scene. I know a lot of people watched for Bai Lu (and she did great), but for me? It was Ao Rui. He absolutely embodied the role of Fan Yue, the cold and powerful Demon Lord who carries the weight of duty, grief, and hidden softness. Guarded at first, but slowly unraveling as he connects with Bai Shuo — his character had so many quiet layers, and Ao Rui brought it all to life. Also… let’s be honest — he’s got that look 😍🫣.

The fight scenes were also a highlight. Stylish, emotionally driven, and beautifully choreographed — especially the ones involving shadow magic. They added meaning beyond just action.

Was it flawless? No. The ending felt rushed, and some side arcs (like the fox clan) dragged a little. But the main story, character depth, and emotional payoff made it worth every minute. The OST still hits, and every time I hear it, the emotions come rushing back.

If you’re into fantasy with a powerful, emotionally guarded male lead who falls hard for a strong female lead, if you love romantic fantasy dramas with emotional weight, strong character arcs, and gorgeous visuals, this is one to check out.

I’m already thinking of rewatching it — and that says a lot.

A certainly alluring watch

Bai Lu's enchanting visuals brought me running to watch this drama, and her exceptional acting kept me all the way to the last episode.

Let me start by bringing the spotlight on the amazing visuals of the entire cast. Everyone was so beautiful, it seemed like that was a requirement just to make it to the audition room. It certainly made every scene a treat to watch.

I absolutely adore dramas with a multiple reams plot, especially where the female lead's origin is packed with a punch of surprise where it turns out she's much more powerful than it seems. Add a seemingly cold male lead who turns out to have a heart of gold, and you've won my heart.

Bai Lu and Ao Rui Peng have delectable chemistry as Bai Shuo and Fan Yue; I could not get enough of them. Their performances both separately and together were praiseworthy, and they've definitely earned a loyal fan in me. You could feel every single one of their emotion amplified, as if you were right there with them, experiencing it all.

Dai Lu Wa played my favourite character(s) as Fu Ling and later Bai Xi. She's a great performer and always seemed to know exactly what to do with her characters. She showed every angle of their complex personalities with an admirable ease, and I simply must applaud her.

All the side characters were intriguing and fun to watch. They ranged from playful and funny to tortured and serious, and each one of them grabbed your attention. The costumers were magnificent. This is one of the best dramas when it comes to the costume and makeup departments, I cannot let that go unsaid. The use of colours to depict the changes in personality and progress in journeys of characters did not go unnoticed by me.

I also adored Ling Long and Rong Xian's story so much. I really wish they could get some sort of spinoff, perhaps a reincarnation story. It was so beautiful to watch. Very few dramas can successfully manage to have subplots focused on other characters, but the writers of Moonlight Mystique did it without breaking a sweat.

This drama did not disappoint in any way, although the CGI isn't exactly the best, but that's not reason enough to peg any points.

It felt like a sad ending regardless of their reunion, because everyone else was gone. In the end Bai Shuo failed to protect those she cherished, except for one. It's sometimes sad, isn't it? To live in all the joys you dreamt of, but have no one to share them with. To make it to the end of the journey, and look back to see almost none of the faces you started with.

All but one of the petals of Bai Shuo's flowers wilted and fell to the ground, hopefully to be reborn in another tomorrow.

A Drama That Took Its Time

At 40 episodes, this drama felt a bit long—it could’ve ended at 30. But those extra episodes gave us *heartwarming, tragic, and unforgettable moments* that made the story richer. The pacing wasn’t perfect, but the emotional payoff was worth it. It’s not without flaws, but it’s those imperfections that make it memorable.

**Rating: 8.5/10**
*Worth the patience.*

I love this show!

Not only is the acting incredible, I love the sweet moments they had and I cannot think about anyone else that can act in this show as good as they did. It was so natural! Dai Lu Wa's visual and great acting got me. I did not know her before this, but after watching it, it made me want to watch all of her other dramas. Bai Lu definitely did not disappoint! Her acting is on point, and she was as beautiful as ever! I never thought that she could have better chemistry with anyone after Luo Yunxi. but Ao Ruipeng proved me wrong. Their connection is nothing ive seen before. I heard a lot of people comparing Bai Lu and Dai Lu Wa together, but honestly, they were both so good it'd be so hard to choose! I will definitely watch it again when I can!

Finally got myself to watch it... sort of wish I never did :/

Here's the thing with my drama priorities-- idk if it's sad all throughout, as long as the outcome is happy. That is why my Scarlet Heart Ryeo (Korean) will forever be my Roman Empire.
This has a happy ending, okay. BUT the process of it, is just too much heartbreak. The leads get together, but at what cost? Literally every single character dies lmao I have never watched a drama-- except SHR as mentioned before, that kills every supporting character off.
Sure, it's like 99% self sacrifices. But still, what's the point of the couple getting their happily ever after if their friends and mentors and everyone they love is gone. Is it really a happy ending? No. Hence my saltiness about this drama.
Sure, the leads are beautiful. The story is typical xianxia.
But... not my cup of tea I guess.
Even killing off the divine gods, XingYue and JingYuan, was such a waste of a parallel happy ending. smh.
My favorite part of this drama has to be the ost. It was beautiful, and gave me Ashes of Love vibes.
But because it just ticked off the boxes of my least favorite drama qualities, the highest I can give this is an 8/10.
The ending was beautiful in itself though, and I am not hating on the writing in any way. Death can be beautiful too, and it was portrayed with meaning for each one, it's just my weak heart can't accept all the sadness🥲

Is it really a happy ending? (;′⌒`)

It's been a year since this has been released, and I just finished watching it. And why did I keep putting off watching this gem of a Xianxia?

The storyline? Girl, I am hooked! It's about the human, a mortal wanting to be an immortal met a demon AND IT GETS REALLY INTRESTING FROM START TO FINISH. I expected that Bai Shuo has something to do with the Demon Lord that saved her and Demon Lord itself is Fan Yue what I didn't expect is that they really separated them. Unlike other dramas that they will become the same as their past lives; they separated them and that's what I love about this. You don't have to be the "you" from the past, you can be your own person and that's alright.

THE ACTORS? GIRL THEY'RE ALL SO LIT I REALLY LOVE BADAHH FU LING I KNEW IT THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT HER CHARACTER THAT PULLS ME IN AHHHH AND SHE'S LITERALLY SO PRETTY HUHUHU WHEN SHE BECAME BAI XI? AHHH SOFTIE LOOKING FU LING BUT STILL BAD AHH

Applaud to all the cast of this drama for perfectly portraying their characters. I know I'm a year late but y'all did so well!

MUSIC? GIRLLL STOP I LOVE SAEWALI YAHA HUHUYA HUHUYA YOHOOO

I will definitely not rewatch because this hurt me so much. ALL OF THEIR FAMILY DIED HOW IS IT A HAPPY ENDING? HAPPY ENDING COS THEY HAPPILY DIED, SACRIFICED??? HUHUHUHUHUHUHUHU but will probably watch some tt clips ✨

Not the Ancient Love Poetry Continuation I Hoped For

This drama felt like two different shows to me. One was all about the subplots, whose storytelling resonated with me the most. Their soul and passion gave the entire feature its momentum. Then came the second part, which centered on the two couples’ stories—and that’s where it lost me. It deviated heavily from the Ancient Love Poetry universe, and I struggled with the reframing. I love Bai Lu and Cheng Huasen, but losing the Tianqi–Yuemi narrative—and seeing Xuanyi, who was compellingly grey and layered in Ancient Love Poetry, reduced to a maniacally love-stricken Mo Li—was disappointing.

I had hoped for a continuation of Ancient Love Poetry that would offer closure on Tianqi and Yuemi’s story—but that’s not what happened. Moonlight Mystique is more of a reinterpretation, and taken as an independent feature, it unfortunately wasn’t the version I was hoping for. I also found the second leads problematic. Their transitions didn’t feel fully developed, with no real epiphany or accountability until the very end. Ultimately, this just wasn’t my cup of tea. I’m not even sure how to rate it, because the inconsistencies were ... well, inconsistent. The side stories were top shelf for me, while the main storyline fell flat. So, although the drama had a strong start and initially captured my heart, the ending didn’t land for me once the subplots wrapped up and the lead narrative dominated.

Great story but lacking a bit in the chemistry department.

I enjoyed it... Some things were really predictable, others not... I like how all the sub-plots were interconnected and served the main one... This should have been tagged "tragedy" though, because it's basically tragic stories piling up on each other.

But for some reason, I could never believe in the main couple... It's my first time seeing Bai Lu in a drama where I just can't feel any chemistry with her co-star... I see what the drama and the actors want me to feel, but it just felt fake so I couldn't connect.

I liked the story of the 2nd couple better though I think they moved from enemies to lovers a bit too fast which removed part of the credibility of their story... Also, they should have avoided making them kiss. They only had one kiss together and my GOD, it SUCKED SO SO BAD.

The CGIs and costumes were great. I loved all the colors displayed especially in the lunar sea.

Overall a good watch.. although I didn't like it as much as I thought I would.
