My Honest Review (2025)
I wouldn’t call it a happy ending. Yes, Fan Yue and Bai Shuo survived — but at what cost? Throughout the entire story, they fought for the people they loved, protected their disciples, lost friends, and carried the weight of countless sacrifices. By the time they finally reached the end, almost everyone they held dear was gone.Characters like Mu Jiu, Tian Huo, Cang Shan, and Fu Ling weren’t just side characters — they were family, comrades, the emotional anchors of the story. Watching each of them fall, one after the other, made it harder and harder to hope for any kind of joy in the ending. And when it finally came… it wasn’t joy that greeted us. It was silence. Peace, yes — but peace after devastation. A kind of stillness that doesn’t comfort you, it just reminds you of who’s missing.
Visually and emotionally, the ending was beautiful. The reunion scene in the Moon Hidden Sea was tender and moving. Fan Yue’s return felt earned. Bai Shuo’s strength was undeniable. But emotionally? It still felt painfully lonely. Like surviving a storm only to realize you're the last one left standing. It wasn't a celebration. It was a soft, sad goodbye.
So no, for me, this wasn’t a happy ending. It was a beautiful tragedy — one that lingers long after the screen fades to black.
I genuinely loved this drama. The characters were deep, the world was rich, and the emotional weight stayed with me long after the final episode. It's the kind of story that breaks you a little — but it also makes you feel everything.
I highly recommend it, especially if you love stories that explore love, loss, loyalty, and sacrifice. But would I rewatch it multiple times? Honestly… probably not. It hurt too much. It's the kind of drama I’ll carry with me, but revisit only when I’m ready. And maybe, that’s what makes it so unforgettable.

The ending
This is my first time leaving a review. I just wanted to express what I feel after the ending. They were too many sacrifices. I understand that they had to happen for the plot but they could've been less. It was really emotional for me even tho I only teared up. I really loved it tho. After watching till the end of the moon I felt the same way. But in MM I felt less sad since atleast they got their "happy ending" (even with all the deaths of these great characters) unlike TTEOTM. It'll take time to move on but I'm glad I watched it. It can really change your perspective of some things, especially love. With the story of jing yan and xing yue they proved that even with immortality love doesn't wait. We have to live in the moment and love while we have the person next to us. A really great xianxia that I wouldn't want to rewatch cuz of the pain! If I do rewatch it it'll be after years maybe. It deserves 10/10!Was this review helpful to you?
First Time in Xianxia drama NO Misunderstanding Between Leads.
After one year, I watched a Xianxia drama, the last one was from the same universe, The Last Immortal. At first, I was hesitant to watch it because it has a 40-episode side effect of watching K-Drama, which usually has 16 episodes. But in the end, I watched it. Honestly speaking, I didn't regret watching it. It was good. The CGI of the drama is good. For me, having decent CGI for a Xianxia drama is important. Because that's the first thing I noticed. The Best Thing about it was that NO Misunderstanding Between Leads, which is very rare in Xianxia dramas or C-dramas. C-Drama is known for creating unnecessary misunderstandings between leads. The 1st drama I watched which had zero misunderstanding between the leads was The Starry Love. Both the dramas have the same director for which some settings or places are similar.
One thing I have noticed is for both the spin-off dramas that cast the top 2 popular actresses as leads. Which helps both the dramas to be in hype.
Love the background song sung by Sa Ding Ding.
I've no complaints about Bai Lu performance. She always slay in her characters. I love that Bai Shuo isn't a timid nor a crybaby female lead. She is smart, uses her brain, calculative, mature. In most of the C-Drama, FL is shown as a timid, foolish, immature character for which lot of misunderstandings happen. As Bai Shuo is a smart & mature person who thinks about every move that Fan Yue takes for which there was no misunderstanding between them.
I never noticed that Ao Rui Peng is so tall. This is my 3rd time watching him after Wrong Carriage, Right Groom & The Blood of Youth. There I never noticed his height. Here his height is very noticeable. He played Fan Yue very well. Also, his & Bai Lu chemistry is also good.
One great thing is that Chong Zhao didn’t lie to Bai Shuo that the poison was spread by Fan Yue. Instead, he chose to tell the truth. Usually, in most dramas, this is how 2ML creates misunderstanding.
Chang Hua Sen is again playing a positive & negative character. I liked his portrayal of both Chong Zhao & Mo Li characters.
Overall, I liked the drama. Really enjoyed it.

Fantasy drama with dreamy visuals and emotional themes
I started watching this drama because of Bai Lu who usually gives strong performances. In the beginning, I felt she did a decent job showing her character’s sadness, strength and inner struggle. She looked beautiful in the role and suited the fantasy setting well. However, as the drama went on, her expressions started to feel a bit repetitive. I still like her as an actress but I think this role didn’t show her full potential enough. On the other hand Dai Lu Wa (Fu Ling) was a major standout for me.
Her character was complex with both strength and vulnerability and she portrayed that balance so well.
Her chemistry with the second male lead was also surprisingly good and their storyline had more emotional weight than I expected. Speaking of the SML his character had more depth and charm than the main male lead even though he wasn’t always in the spotlight.
As for the male lead, while he fit the visual of a cold, mysterious fantasy hero, his character didn’t grow much throughout the series. I felt like he stayed distant emotionally for too long which made it hard to connect with him or root for the main couple. His chemistry with Bai Lu felt a bit flat and their love story didn’t develop naturally.
The romance between them felt underwritten and lacked emotional impact especially in the second half.
It’s not that they were bad actors but the script didn’t give them enough depth or meaningful interactions to make their relationship believable.
Anyway, Moonlight Mystique is a beautiful drama with great production quality and some strong performances.
It’s worth watching if you enjoy fantasy with dreamy visuals and emotional themes.

Still Thinking About It… and Still Watching Every TikTok Clip
I didn’t expect Moonlight Mystique to stick with me the way it did — but here I am, weeks later, still thinking about it. And every time the theme song pops up on TikTok, I have to watch every single clip on my FYP. That’s how much this drama got under my skin. The romance and chemistry between the leads was so well done — full of longing, tension, and emotional pull. You could feel their bond evolving in every scene. I know a lot of people watched for Bai Lu (and she did great), but for me? It was Ao Rui. He absolutely embodied the role of Fan Yue, the cold and powerful Demon Lord who carries the weight of duty, grief, and hidden softness. Guarded at first, but slowly unraveling as he connects with Bai Shuo — his character had so many quiet layers, and Ao Rui brought it all to life. Also… let’s be honest — he’s got that look 😍🫣.
The fight scenes were also a highlight. Stylish, emotionally driven, and beautifully choreographed — especially the ones involving shadow magic. They added meaning beyond just action.
Was it flawless? No. The ending felt rushed, and some side arcs (like the fox clan) dragged a little. But the main story, character depth, and emotional payoff made it worth every minute. The OST still hits, and every time I hear it, the emotions come rushing back.
If you’re into fantasy with a powerful, emotionally guarded male lead who falls hard for a strong female lead, if you love romantic fantasy dramas with emotional weight, strong character arcs, and gorgeous visuals, this is one to check out.
I’m already thinking of rewatching it — and that says a lot.

Beautiful love story but way too many sacrifices
This drama is similar to Love Between Fairy and Devil, with romance between two different race. But I love the characters in this drama better, the FL starts being weak but strong-willed and not useless for once (which is rare to find), both FL and ML are trying to protect each other. The episodes have many twists and not dragging to keep me hooked, the pace is almost perfect for me. But I think it lacks of actions, the fights are too short and conclude too fast. And most importantly, I hate how A LOT OF PEOPLE DIED. Well, I know it's about sacrifices and all but seriously?? They build the characters to be lovable with strong background story and they make them dead early just like that. So I'm giving this drama minus half point for breaking my heart lol.BUUTTT the drama is totally recommended for those who love xianxia movies with good romance like me. Music is great, casts are perfect, and enjoyable plot! Every characters have their own background story, and it's an emotional journey from start to end. The drama hooked me right from episode 1. One of the best xianxia drama everrrr ❤️

A certainly alluring watch
Bai Lu's enchanting visuals brought me running to watch this drama, and her exceptional acting kept me all the way to the last episode.Let me start by bringing the spotlight on the amazing visuals of the entire cast. Everyone was so beautiful, it seemed like that was a requirement just to make it to the audition room. It certainly made every scene a treat to watch.
I absolutely adore dramas with a multiple reams plot, especially where the female lead's origin is packed with a punch of surprise where it turns out she's much more powerful than it seems. Add a seemingly cold male lead who turns out to have a heart of gold, and you've won my heart.
Bai Lu and Ao Rui Peng have delectable chemistry as Bai Shuo and Fan Yue; I could not get enough of them. Their performances both separately and together were praiseworthy, and they've definitely earned a loyal fan in me. You could feel every single one of their emotion amplified, as if you were right there with them, experiencing it all.
Dai Lu Wa played my favourite character(s) as Fu Ling and later Bai Xi. She's a great performer and always seemed to know exactly what to do with her characters. She showed every angle of their complex personalities with an admirable ease, and I simply must applaud her.
All the side characters were intriguing and fun to watch. They ranged from playful and funny to tortured and serious, and each one of them grabbed your attention. The costumers were magnificent. This is one of the best dramas when it comes to the costume and makeup departments, I cannot let that go unsaid. The use of colours to depict the changes in personality and progress in journeys of characters did not go unnoticed by me.
I also adored Ling Long and Rong Xian's story so much. I really wish they could get some sort of spinoff, perhaps a reincarnation story. It was so beautiful to watch. Very few dramas can successfully manage to have subplots focused on other characters, but the writers of Moonlight Mystique did it without breaking a sweat.
This drama did not disappoint in any way, although the CGI isn't exactly the best, but that's not reason enough to peg any points.
It felt like a sad ending regardless of their reunion, because everyone else was gone. In the end Bai Shuo failed to protect those she cherished, except for one. It's sometimes sad, isn't it? To live in all the joys you dreamt of, but have no one to share them with. To make it to the end of the journey, and look back to see almost none of the faces you started with.
All but one of the petals of Bai Shuo's flowers wilted and fell to the ground, hopefully to be reborn in another tomorrow.

A Drama That Took Its Time
At 40 episodes, this drama felt a bit long—it could’ve ended at 30. But those extra episodes gave us *heartwarming, tragic, and unforgettable moments* that made the story richer. The pacing wasn’t perfect, but the emotional payoff was worth it. It’s not without flaws, but it’s those imperfections that make it memorable.**Rating: 8.5/10**
*Worth the patience.*

I love this show!
Not only is the acting incredible, I love the sweet moments they had and I cannot think about anyone else that can act in this show as good as they did. It was so natural! Dai Lu Wa's visual and great acting got me. I did not know her before this, but after watching it, it made me want to watch all of her other dramas. Bai Lu definitely did not disappoint! Her acting is on point, and she was as beautiful as ever! I never thought that she could have better chemistry with anyone after Luo Yunxi. but Ao Ruipeng proved me wrong. Their connection is nothing ive seen before. I heard a lot of people comparing Bai Lu and Dai Lu Wa together, but honestly, they were both so good it'd be so hard to choose! I will definitely watch it again when I can!Was this review helpful to you?

amazing world, outfits, interesting characters, but unfortunately falls apart
A very captivating and beautiful world that had a lot of potential. I think it could have been an unforgettable show if it weren't for the fact that the writing was not very good. i really loved the idea of the characters, the demon lord with a tragic past, a human that breaks the rules and climbs up the ladder ( although to be fair was kind of just given to her as the chosen one), and the redemption of A Xi in the cold palace. I also thought the the actor who played Cheng Zhao did an amazing job and I hope he gets some good roles in the future.Because of those things, I gave a better review then I would have, because the writing really gets bad especially when they get to the fox clan. Every character except Bai Shuo just starts dying and it just starts to get boring because you're just watching people die over and over and everything just exists for the main characters pretty much.
The story about Mu Jiu's parents was sad, but acceptable as a sort of ancient Roman tragedy.. but it should have ended there. His parents deaths was already a tragedy, and then insane efforts were put in to save him and keep him alive for 1,000 years and his aunts husband even sacrifices himself, and then he just commits suicide out of survivors guilt. Even though he had a marriage and whole life ahead of him while his aunt on the other hand was left alone by her sister, husband, and friends and had spend 1,000 years keeping him alive and now she doesn't have him either. It played it off as a beautiful sacrifice (as a prelude to the next many to come), but in reality it was just frustrating and tiring. You've already gone though a whirlwind and have been built up so long expecting this dude to survive. When he said he was going to become responsible after learning the truth I though for a minute he was going to learn magic and become the clan leader but ofcourse not.
Then the rest of the characters just start dropping like dominoes. It's too hard to get into the show after that point because it's like they think you only care about the main characters even after building you up with especially A Xi and Cheng Zhao. I even kind of liked them better than the main leads, which kind of became overkill with sappy scenes and corny piano music.

Okay
Moonlight Mystiques" is a love story between a demon god and a girl. I liked the first few episodes, but then the story became flat. When the demon god transformed into an innocent boy because his magic backfired, the story became a little interesting, but then it got boring again. The chemistry between the leads was good, and the supporting actors and actresses performed well.By the way, the male lead looked dazzling all the time.

Loved the purple hues
I don't understand the hate for this drama tbh. For me it's a solid 9/10, considering the story and the acting.> The story was amazing - up until ep 34 (if you're looking for a happy ending for all, stop here). I feel that everything after could have not happen.
> The acting was great, all actors could convey their inteded role and emotions. From all the Bai Lu dramas I've watched, I feel she did her best in this drama and I really loved her in this role. The ML had a stiff face, especially in the more intimate moments, he looked like he was forced to be there. But overall good performance from him as well. 2nd FL was really cute, hope to see her as lead actress in the future.
> The settings&CGI - they imagined awesome locations. I don't know if they created a whole new set for the Bright Moon Palace, but I loved the color pallete. Also It was fun to recognise some sets from others dramas I've seen.
> The costumes - fit the bill. Very colorful and daring I would say, with great patterns. Some of the best I've seen in such dramas.
> The music - mediocre at best. Only one extract from one song I could constantly hear.
> The ending - Altough it's supposed to be happy, for me it felt as bit forced (like facepalm cringe).
