Wholesome and Heartwarming
This is such a beautiful show. It's been a while since i love any youth drama, and i'm glad to be able to watch this show. Ending my 2025 and starting 2026 with Always Home is one of the best thing i did.I especially really love the ending, unlike any youth romance drama, this one feels more realistic and mature. I love the family, the friendship, the romance, the joyfulness of youth, the hardship of adult life. Everything is depicted so beutifully yet still feels realistic.

Fantastic ending
I don’t know why this slice of life youth drama isn’t getting more traction. Loved that the extroverted jock ended up with the girl and not the cold head of the class. Enjoyed the journey and just general life that all of the characters experienced. my heart actually broke that is was over. they did such a wonderful job of closing the story. My only complaint was I wish there was more time of them as adults before the closure. And you never got to see Song and DuMan actually get together. but definitely one to add to my rewatch list. Was this review helpful to you?

Nostagia, Childhood, Youth.
Always HomeI realized from this drama that youth dramas just hit different. I love the community around them, where everyone is so close with each other and will help, support, and protect each other as well. I love the bonds, friendships, relationships, and support that is formed within all youth dramas and how that friendship can carry on through adulthood. It’s truly the perfect portrayal of what everyone wants to obtain from their childhood, but very few people end up getting.
My thoughts after finishing it. Whoo! My favorite part of this whole drama is it’s portrayal of growing up. I have watched many youth dramas before, but none of them portray it as accurately as Always Home. The ups and downs of family, relationships, friends, careers, and homes are just perfect. Nothing is ever going to come perfect, but the people and the things that you care about and dedicate yourself towards will never leave you. “There are many times that will come and go, people, hobbies, events. However, I believe that they will always follow you and support you through all your future endeavors.” No matter what challenges are faced, everything will work out in the end. Good friends will stay good friends. Bad people will leave and life will go on. This drama’s big point is not even surrounding the romance. That is a sub-plot to me. It’s just the character growth and realization of how true reality is in life.
From the very start, I love this drama. I love the youth and school setting of it. The way that Xichi and Huan’er hit it off so quick. I love their dynamic, it’s definitely like a childhood best friend teasing dynamic. And Song Cong is the parent of the dynamic. He’s the calm and mellow one that controls when things get too rowdy.
I’m really moved by something that Huan Er said “Just because you have a planned life doesn’t mean that it’ll make you happy.” That’s a rlly impactful quote for everyone growing up and at an impasse. Even if there’s a path laid out, if it doesn’t make you happy, it’s not worth it.
I feel so bad for both Song Cong and his mom. I understand both perspectives. His mom is just working to try to make his life as easy as possible, so he doesn’t have to go through the same struggles as she did. However, Song Cong is his own person and has his own thoughts and wishes. If he doesn’t want to go study abroad, then he shouldn’t be forced to because he will never be happy that way. Something that Xi Chi said also stuck with me in that moment, “if u truly love something, then you will let it hurt you over and over and never regret it.” That’s such a true statement. You would be willing to give up everything for something you love.
The start of this drama with everyone’s baby crushes is so cute. It’s a love square. Xi Chi likes Qiqi. Qiqi likes Song Cong. Song Cong likes Huan’er. Huan’er likes Xi Chi. It’s a whole chain where there’s not one couple that reciprocates their feelings.
I really like Li Tian for some reason. He’s such a relatable character who helps people in need, but also tries not to bother them. He’s under so much pressure from his parents and they don’t even listen to what he wants one bit. I was really happy when Xi Chi, Song Cong, and Huan’er helped him attend that English competition instead of the math comp that his parents wanted him to go to. It was really sweet and he was able to do what he wanted for once.
Aww…Jing Xi Chi injuring his leg make me really really sad. That is his one dream in life and he’s trying so hard to be better and prove all the people that says he can’t do it wrong, but in the end, he ended up hurting himself even more. I still feel bad for Song Cong. He feels left out of the dynamic, no one truly understands him, they view him as this perfect guy when he just wants to play and mess around like everyone else.
When Song Cong’s mother was in the ICU and Song Cong was really devastated about it, Huan’er comforted him about it. She revealed some of her own struggles when she was sick as a kid and reassured Song Cong that his mother would be ok. Song Cong was really grateful for that and moved by her kindness. UGH I AM GETTING SECOND LEAD SYNDROME FOR LIKE THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE AFTER LIKE 30 DRAMAS WATCHED. I also loved how Li Tian stuck up for Song Cong too in the class when they were all gossiping about his mother’s situation.
The kids all caring for their parents more and thinking about them getting old is so relatable. I love this familial aspect of the show as all the kids understand how limited time is and how much the need to start caring for their parents wellbeing as well.
When there was the power outage in class before the Gaokao, the teachers speech got me rlly emotional. He reminds everyone to always try their best and live their life differently than everyone else. A test is important but it doesn’t determine your life. All of the kids crying shows just how affected they are. Not only are they great students, but they all understand the maturity of the world they’re going to enter. It’s so relatable esp when being close to becoming an adult, because u realize u have to part with the lie u once knew and adjust to the real world. I LOVE how this drama is so relatable. Huan’er getting sad thinking abt how everyone is moving so far away.
EPISODE 16!! WHAT THE HECK!! WHY DID EVERYONE CONFESS AT THE SAME TIME AND THEY ALL GOT REJECTED. Song Cong bro, he seemed so dejected after. ILL TAKE U IF SHE DOESNT. He asked Xi Chi first if he liked Huan’er because he thought of his best friend over his feelings. Then, he worked up the nerve, got rejected, then completely was like not himself after. He was no longer the stable, mature, Song Cong. The one time he tries to be honest and truthful, it fails. MY SECOND LEAD SYNDROME IS SO HIGH. AND THEN HE PUT THE GLASSES BACK ON😭😭. My heart is broken for him bro. Him and Huan’er is such a perfect match and I will stand on that. Huan’er and Xi Chi are too similar, but Song Cong balances her out. UGHHHHH💔 He even came to her and apologized for making things awkward saying to forget he ever said it. When he asked if they could still be friends and she said it would be hard, my heart broke for him even more bro. Not only did he lose his love, he lost his friend, and told her to think of him as a neighbor if it’s too hard for her. He’s always thinking of other people.
I’m not going to lie, I don’t really connect with the lead couple that much as I keep watching.
Awww I knew this would happen but it still hurt me. Tian Chi is so mature. He knew that Huan’er didn’t like him and still decided to reveal his feelings but then tell her that he understands. His giving back of the book from years ago was like the end of a book. That chapter is closed. Ugh Tian Chi deserves someone good. My 2 favorite characters rejected by the same girl: Song Cong and Tian Chi. They need happy endings.
Song Cong and Qiqi just don’t seem right to me. They come from 2 diff worlds no matter what Qiqi tried to do. She’s used to the luxurious lifestyle and always having money, living in big houses, and expensive gifts. He prioritized his family, small acts of love, and quality time. I actually hated how Qiqi didn’t realize that Song Cong paid for that expensive of a bill and how that affected him. Like, not everyone has unlimited money, so for Song Cong, that simple meal cost a lot. Yea, ok after that scene at the bar, it gave me a big ick. Qiqi knew he had a test tmrw and still forced him to drink with her. Not only that, she had the audacity to say she had to change for him to like her. He ate her up with that line: “is it fair if ur changing me into a person I don’t want to be?” That is exactly how the relationship was heading towards. He and her have such different goals and priorities that it wasn’t ever going to work out.
WOW WOW WOW!! I never even imagined that Du Man and Song Cong would be a fit for each other. But man, they are literally perfect. They literally have the exact same perspective on life and Du Man understands Song Cong in a way that no one else does. She’s not overly feminine, overly emotional, but more rational. And that is exactly how Song Cong is. Not only that, but the fact they live so close and work together, they can lean on eachother for support. And when she kissed him, bro. That was a power move and boy am I glad she did it. I don’t know how far this relationship is going to go, but she is what Song Cong needs and likewise.
Ok, yes. So, this is exactly what I was talking about. I know that Jing Xichi has good intentions and he truly loves Huan’er but their personalities are just disparate. Like, he got so jealous over Tian Chi’s help for Huan’er when he should have been thanking him. What did he expect Tian Chi to do? Watch Huan’er faint and call Xichi to drive over when he’s in a completely different city? And then he got mad at Huan’er for Tian Chi dropping her off from the hospital in the middle of the night. Like what? Tian Chi is her senior, so he is supposed to care for her and protect her just like any friend. I really don’t like how Huan’er and Xichi are making him seem like some jealous ex that did something wrong. He never overstepped his boundaries and he helped her when Xichi could not. This is why I actually like Du Man and Song Cong’s relationship more. It’s just more mature and reliable. Like their conversation in the mountains in episode 29 was the first time I saw any declaration of how much each other means to them. And with this being a 30 episode show, like, the lack of emotional depth at the beginning was just a limiting factor for me with that main couple. Like, I understand this show is about growing up and learning how to do these things and be vulnerable, but how are they together for like years before ever doing this? Idk, the maturity between them and then Du Man and Song Cong just has such a big difference.

As expected, youth cdramas are always the best!
This one is a little underrated but so good!! Characters are nice, funny and cute. We get to know not only the main characters story but also their parents story. We also see the main characters growing up as teenagers to adults, going to universities and then working. Qi Chi and Huan Er are extremely cute together and also charming characters! They had a good chemistry together and the actors did a great job in general! The last episode was really heartwarming and leaves us with a good message about friendship, life and maturity. I wished Song Cong had a better closure tho but I really liked the ending in general and I think it was a good and emotion closure to the drama.
Really recommend this if you’re looking for a good youth drama about friendship, love and family!

"This ever-refreshing morningmade me believe that only when we lose the courage to start over,
does youth truly come to an end."
Hi I absolutely loved this drama
- Loved the development of the character, even the family of the leads. It was refreshing to see the relationships between the characters and their parents. The parents are LOVELY every one of them have their own distinct character. Their friendships with one another were wholesome. (yes i loved the mothers friend group)
- It's relatable and it hits home (just like the title 😝)
- Life lessons, coping with grief and loss, liked to see the growth of the characters
If you enjoy a warm and easy to watch drama (that is somewhat school-related) to unwind after a long day, I'd recommend you to try it out. And if you dont really enjoy watching school dramas, don't worry, its not like cringey type, it still has other parts of their life so it doesnt focus totally on school. It also shows their life growing up, transitioning, hobbies, relationships with family etc.
Didnt regret watching this at all. Chanced upon this after watching WIFTY and this plot kinda reminds me of it.
But also has some differences from WIFTY for eg, more focus on the parents too

JingXichi:
started off as seemingly slightly irresponsible --> more mature, and rational
ChenHuanEr:
started off as bubbly and slightly lacking in confidence --> more mature, and confident
𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬:
QiQi: one of ChenHuanEr's first friends in new school. i liked that her relationship with her mother did improve slightly. I didnt fully like her character, though i can kind of see why she is the person she was (partly because her mother is kind of cold, aloof too) i feel like she mostly thinks for herself. but glad to see her move on from her past.
SongCong: He deserved more, i am so glad that QiQi and him didnt get together in the end(even though on surface they might look matching) but this guy hes so precious pls ... he made earrings for her??? and it's handmade??? hes a keeper!!!pls you deserve more.
DuMan: Honestly I am not sure how I feel about SongCong and DuMan's weird romance going on... but i am still happy to see her, her character also has growth and there are struggles that she faces.
XinYan: bubbly, outgoing, extroverted. it was nice to see you class monitor :))) happy for her she has healed from her past crush on JingXiChi
LiTian: an intelligent and clever character who is quite comical in his own unique way, it did spice up the show. He ended up having a partner despite him saying “wise men dont fall in love (智者不如爱河)” LOL
can still see hints of the characters being the same person when they were slightly younger, which is GOOD, shows coherence with storyline.
𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝:
- homely environment, that the parents take turns to care for their friends' children (like cooking them meals) because they do night shifts, features a comfortable vibe
-the main leads truly care for one another i liked that they started off as friends, showing their very real sides, then becoming besties to lovers
-how JingXichi stands up for ChenHuanEr right in the very beginning caught my eye (it showed a soft side to his exterior, that he was actually a kind person and considered her as his friend, even before they knew each other very well)
-how ChenHuanEr encouraged JingXichi during his setbacks
-how the friend group in class goes out on outings together
- back part: how the main leads talk out and resolve their differences during quarrel, was quite realistic showing the struggles of long distance rls
- i liked the filming, directing, the angles and how the story was being told
- script was good, not super lame, i think it was quite natural
𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝:
i think certain characters' acting could be improved. i have no problem with the main leads but 2nd female lead may have limited range of expressions, though i think she did a pretty decent job already.
would have loved to see a little more of their home neighbourhood (家属院)scenes again and the family's scenes also in the back part (tho they did show them reuniting in the neighbourhood)
when they transitioned into university life i felt that i missed the life they had back then... though it was also important to show them transitioning into adulthood
the last episode felt a little bit rushed... thought it was a decent attempt at tying up the knots and all, and closure of the characters, but would have loved to see the parents for one last time too
𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬:
when the last episode ended, i was sad to see them go.. that feeling of watching a good drama the last episode is bittersweet. will miss them hence rewatch value is 9.5
if you read until this far, thank you for reading !! its my first review <3

Best school drama 2025
I absolutely loved "Our Secret" drama and now Always Home has also made it to my favorites list!Always Home" beautifully captures the essence of family, love, and the struggles of modern life. It is a heartwarming yet emotional story that explores themes of homecoming, forgiveness, and personal growth. The pacing is steady, balancing lighthearted moments with deep emotional connections.
Acting : The cast delivers outstanding performances, making each character feel real and relatable. The supporting characters also add warmth and humor, making the drama engaging from start to finish.
Music: The OST is soothing and perfectly complements the drama’s emotional tone.
Rewatch Value: This drama has a high rewatch value, especially for those who love heartfelt family, friend stories. Its comforting storyline, well-developed characters, and emotional depth make it worth revisiting.
Overall 10/10

If you loved WIFTY & Go Ahead - Watch this <3
super underated and i reccomend everyone too watch this if they love slice of life, school and friendship shows, with a bit of romance of coursethis drama was everything i wanted from Go Ahead, but didn't get and ill proudly say this beats Go Ahead by far!
the pacing was perfect - we had enough eps at the start to get us into the show, know and understand the different characters and their circumstances, including the parents! it was beautiful seeing how the 3 families had their different problems, whether it was with their children, their husbands or wifes and how each dynamic was unique but realistic.
it showed how to value your loved ones in the moment, because you never know when they will leave you behind or how it's okay to be selfish and do what you want to, get help when you always help yourself and others! how having a proper wedding after having kids and a stable income is perfectly ok and should be normalized & how everyones love languages are different but still love languages!!
jing xichi was by far my fav written characters! when he had to give up on his first love - football - and lost his dad around the same time was heartbreaking to see, because he lost his spark there an then. he became the quite, serious student who was getting top grades in his class, from being the fun, hyper and lively athelete :<. Nevertheless his progress was amazing! getting a job offer from companies because of a project he made for his friends in his first year shows how far he's come -- and even though it wasn't football that gave him happiness anymore, he got a replacement; Chen Huaner! A girl who admired from the behind the scenes and who supported him at his lowest. the dynamic of their relationship was beautiful
my only major problem was with Qi Qi character -- at first i understood her but as the story grew i didn't like her that much! her reconcilation with Huaner could've been better executed and I'm glad her and Song Cong broke up and went their seperate ways --- they were not made for each other, it seemed very forced. the ending for Qi Qi does her justice i'm glad her development was executed right! As for Song Cong, his development and character was also perfect at the end! he got to focus on himself & his studies and during that he reflected on his personality and fixed the void that was missing!
overall this drama covers many aspects in a meaningful and beautiful way <3

You might like it - give it a try
I understand that everyone has different tastes, and I know many people might enjoy this drama but personally, I found it quite boring. I usually love school-themed slice-of-life dramas, but for some reason, this one just didn’t click with me. Each episode felt unnecessarily slow, and I struggled to stay engaged or emotionally connected to the story. For context, I have really enjoyed dramas like When I Fly Towards You, Exclusive Fairytale, and Our Secret so I went into this with similar expectations. Unfortunately, this just wasn’t my cup of tea.
The actors did a decent job overall, though I didn’t see anything particularly outstanding in the performances. The storyline itself felt too drawn out, and I can't help but wonder if a shorter 24-episode format might have made it more watchable.
I honestly feel a bit disappointed after investing my time in this. I usually rely on ratings and genres when picking dramas, and I rarely drop shows with an 8.0+ rating but this one I simply couldn’t finish despite trying my best.
Again, I know this show might resonate with many viewers and that’s perfectly fine but it just wasn’t for me.

You don't get everything you want in life
At first, I didn’t expect Always Home to hit me the way it did. It’s calm, warm, and very slice-of-life, but slowly it grows on you. By the end, it feels like saying goodbye to people you actually know. The characters felt real, it felt like your grew with them.MAIN LEADS
The main leads were honestly the heart of this drama. Their relationship felt very natural, no over-the-top drama, just quiet understanding and growth. I really liked how their bond developed slowly and realistically, especially the emotional support they gave each other during tough moments. They definitely chose the correct actors for the cast cause how well they fit their roles.
SECOND LEADS
The second leads were surprisingly good. They didn’t feel unnecessary or forced, and each of them had their own charm. I liked how they added depth to the story instead of distracting from the main couple. It was pretty shocking how SML didn't end with the SFL. Honestly I didn't expect as cdramas always usually give a happy ever after to every character. But i kinda liked it that way , i didn't enjoy the SFL that much.
LIKES
I loved the realistic portrayal of family, friendships, and daily life. The warmth of home, parents, and childhood memories was shown really well. The pacing was slow but comforting, and the drama felt very healing overall. It is kinda heartbreaking how real this drama is, the character who made us laugh the most (ML) is there person who made us cry, His dad passing, him losing his dream career, everything felt real. I first hated Lian Tan but he was the only person who gave comedy in serious situations.
FAV SCENE
My favourite scene has to be the quiet moments where everyone is together at home—simple conversations, meals, and laughter. Those scenes really captured the essence of the drama and made it feel very real.
CONCLUSION
Overall, Always Home is a comforting and heartwarming drama. It’s not about big twists but about life, growth, and relationships. I would recommend this drama to people who enjoy slice-of-life stories, family-centered dramas, and something calm and emotional rather than intense.

RECOMMENDED
*I can't exactly express in words my awe with this drama, but I'll try!Starting this I was quite hesitant to watch. But as I watch more and more, I see it's beauty and worth.
This drama, starting from the cast, is splendid. I especially loved the acting of the Male Lead (Jing Xichi), he's very good, (at first I actually thought the Male Lead was Song Cong). And as well as other actors (I was kinda disappointed with QiQi a little). Their chemistry together is good, from friendships to romantic relationships. I also judged a few characters who were actually who I never thought they would be, in a good way. You can tell it's a good drama.
It's pacing was just right. Although at first I was a bit reluctant with how they felt close already, after just a short period of time. But as you watch more you witness yourself—they're growth with each other, the romance between the characters, and how they slowly become adolescents to adults.
This stands out, even just a little, from other romance dramas. Although the plotting of getting close, falling in love, and being in a relationship is cliché, they showed it in a nice and perfect way, where you won't get tired of it at all. It has flaws, but it's not something that tears the fact that you shouldn't watch it.
Their chemistry is actually like INSANE! The way the drama actually showed every little emotion and action that led them to falling in love with each other is just awesome. And the way their eyes show the affection, and how you can see through their hearts, that they're actually in love. Although I was a bit cringed with how they were when they first got together. They're still worth to be with each other.
It doesn't just revolve around romance and falling in love, it shows the pain, sorrow, grief, hardships, and challenges their families went through. It's good that you can feel those very emotions they intend to show. And their course in finding they're dreams, and fighting to achieve it. It simply shows reality.
I actually hoped there'd be more episodes, to show more of their future. But still, they ended the drama beautifully, just enough for you to witness.
P.S. This review might not be that convincing for you to watch this drama, but please do! It's worth it, that's what I can promise! I think I can top this off as my favourite, out of all the chinese drama I've watched! One more thing, it made cry quite a bit.

you guys must watch it because the plot is very unexpected
very good ahhh,i love the way qichi look at huan er healing, forgiveness, and the idea that home is not just a place — it’s the people you love. The show delivers a soft, heartfelt tone that makes it perfect for viewers who enjoy slow-paced storytelling and deep character development. The cast gives natural and believable performances. Even the supporting characters have meaningful arcs, and their relationships feel genuine. Chemistry between them feels comforting rather than dramatic, matching the drama’s tone. The drama revolves around characters who carry emotional wounds from their past. Instead ..of relying on heavy melodrama, communication, personal growth, and rebuilding relationships.they are to cutee

Experience a heartwarming story of youth, love, life, and the journey of growing up.
Such is my love for this drama that it has inspired me to do something I've never done before: write a review. It unexpectedly became an emotional roller coaster. The connection to the characters was so strong by the final episode that saying goodbye felt genuinely difficult. My first impression was that this would be the usual teen-centric romance drama, following the familiar high school-to-adulthood trajectory. Zhai Xiaowen was my initial draw. However, this drama proved to be so much more, and I found myself utterly in love with it.
Every character in this drama was a delight, from the endearing parents within the compound to the supportive group of friends. However, Huan'er and XiChi's love story was particularly captivating. Their connection felt incredibly organic and sweet, a genuine portrayal of mutual love and support. The actors, Xiaowen and XiZi, brought these characters to life with such natural talent and explosive chemistry. This drama is unforgettable and a definite must-watch!
