Excellent entertainment.Congratulations to Taiwan for this outstanding production in collaboration with Netflix. I watched all eight episodes in one sitting — the story is that engaging and compelling.
The casting was an excellent choice, the script consistently strong, and the direction sharp and intelligent. Everything works in harmony to sustain the tension and maintain the viewer’s interest without losing narrative coherence.
If you enjoy investigative dramas filled with action, featuring young protagonists and intriguingly crafted killers, this series is certainly worth your time.

Interesting Modern Detective Drama

MIXED IMPRESSIONS -- Lil Disappointed but Don't Skip!!
I'm a Crime Thriller and Murder Mystery Enthusiast.I have watched and loved Taiwanese dramas, especially some of their Crime Thriller Mysteries / Police dramas are Very Good.
And so, I was Super Excited to watch this, reading the summary.
But, To be Honest, Left with MIXED IMPRESSIONS by the end of this drama -- Not BAD but Not CAPTIVATING enough!! :(

The Summary is Very Interesting -- A tarot card reader predicts the deaths of social media influencers exactly, who dies one after the other.
The ML, a police detective should solve these death mysteries.

Plot, Story Narration are Good.
The Story is about the ML trying to find whether those deaths are coincidental and if they are murders, need to find the connection between these deaths, the reason behind them and capture the murderer(s) behind these multiple murders.

IT STARTED REALLY WELL.
First Two Episodes are Very Good.
The Mystery that all these multiple murders are connected and the Suspense of all these serial killings, with one or more murderers at loose, is Interesting.
But from ep 3 to ep 5, Pacing and Story Narration looked off and slow.
Though the Crime Story is Simple and Straightforward (like routine crime thrillers / police dramas), it's Good
but the Execution and Acting are lil bad or odd -- it gave a vibe that Something is Missing n went wrong here :o
U can really predict the murderer, his reason (routine revenge oriented crime drama with multiple murders) and who the "Witch Baba" is.
So the Mystery, though maintained well till ep 7, is Not Very Gripping and is not Nail-biting Suspense.
And these made this Crime Thriller Mystery Drama fell flat (So, I'm bored at times n little disappointed! :|)

Good to see Ekin Cheng (Hong Kong actor) in Taiwanese drama.
It started with him getting million followers in ep 1
But in eps 3 to 5, his character has less screen presence -- It gave a vibe that he is a support role in these episodes -- Looked like though he being the main detective, except him, everyone else is investigating the murders in their own ways.
His character looked dull n inactive, here.
(In remaining eps, I have no complaints about his role, haha)

Ep 7 concluded the main mystery and serial killings.
I wondered what more could be the story for Finale ep (1 hour run time) but started a New Mystery?! :o
The PLOT TWIST in the Finale, really helped this drama, worth to watch 👍🏻
Could have done this miniseries well in 6 eps than 8, with better Execution, Pacing n Narration.

P.S: If you are New to Taiwanese dramas or Crime Thriller genre, you can really enjoy watching this 👍🏻
But A die-hard Crime Thriller enthusiast might find this drama, Plain, Routine & too Simple.
But Don't Skip this as it is Interesting enough for an "One Time Watch" n can be Binge-watched easily.

Two Things I Don’t Understand
So I just have two major complaints about this show.1. How does a BB gun make a real gunshot sound? The guy shot his gun into the air, which was what got everyone’s attention, but the gun turned out to be a toy gun? I must have missed what happened there because that made absolutely no sense.
2. So the guy is driving with his pregnant wife, and these crazy kids are riding motorcycles recklessly in front of them and shooting fireworks back at them. Um, why does he not stop his car? Instead he keeps driving behind them, tailgating them to be exact, and crashes. Whose fault is that? Stop your damn car!!
I really didn’t pay too much attention otherwise. There ma have been other major holes I didn’t catch, thankfully.

Pour seulement ma deuxième chronique, en déjà cinq ans, d’un Drama taïwanais, je me retrouve un peu comme Ekin Cheng découvrant les réseaux sociaux. Un vieux père de 50 ans incapable de comprendre la jeunesse, ses aspirations et ses codes. Tout comme je suis incapable de comprendre les codes des Dramas taïwanais, après des années nourri uniquement aux Dramas japonais. Si les différences entre un thriller des deux côtés de la mer de Chine sont subtiles, elles sont bien plus importantes que celles entre Navarro et Derrick, des deux côtés du Rhin.Elles se jouent surtout au niveau du rythme et de l’ambiance. Si des thrillers comme Chou no Rikigaku arrivent à retranscrire cette ambiance crade et suintante dans un Japon ancré dans le réel, force est de constater que la plupart des thrillers japonais sont aseptisés et policés à souhait. Million-Follower Detective est dans la veine de ces séries brutes, sans concession sur le réel. Un réel que les jeunes de Taïwan fuient dans l’espoir de devenir riches et célèbres par le poison du XXIᵉ siècle que sont les réseaux. Si des dizaines de séries ont déjà dépeint les excès de ceux-ci, force est de constater que celle-ci va dans le jusqu'au-boutisme. Au même titre que Adolescent devrait nous faire réfléchir sur ce monde parallèle et sans foi ni loi pour nos enfants, celle-ci devrait nous alerter sur la santé mentale de la génération Z.
Quand le buzz pousse au crime, jusqu’à se retourner contre son propre créateur. Dans un Taïwan individualiste, sans espoir pour la jeunesse, la série aurait tout aussi bien pu se passer dans n’importe quelle mégalopole mondiale, où chaque petite fourmi, en voulant dénoncer le moindre crime pour se donner une importance et une conscience, devient une pièce du puzzle assassin de notre civilisation.
Je regarde cette série avec les yeux de la génération X, celle qui a créé le Frankenstein, incapable de comprendre la jeunesse mais rêvant que tout ceci s’arrête, alors que j’utilise moi-même les réseaux à cet instant même. La folie collective se ressent dans chaque scène, magistralement filmée et pourtant sans artifice, chose rare pour un Drama Netflix. Les personnages sont crus. Patty Lee en rookie et Ekin Cheng en mentor sont justes dans leurs rôles, paraissant dix ans de moins que leurs âges respectifs. Le jeu reflète leur expérience, mais la jeune garde d’influenceurs n’est pas en reste et se voit promise à une belle carrière, malgré leur rôle de parasites dépeint dans ce Drama. La série est entourée de mystère et vous tiendra en haleine un certain temps, révisant votre jugement à chaque épisode.
Les dérives des réseaux sont dénoncées comme il se doit, dépeints comme un Far West sans foi ni loi. La violence est partout dans la série. La violence sur le Net, dans le réel, pour tous les protagonistes. Sans concession, ce Drama est une bonne entrée en matière dans le monde beaucoup moins policé du Drama taïwanais, mais tellement plus en phase avec le réel du monde qui nous entoure. Si Taïwan est critiqué régulièrement pour sa vassalisation aux États-Unis, elle montre qu’elle est en avance sur l’Oncle Sam par bien des aspects, qui nous projettent dans un avenir désespérant.

c’est quand même dommage d’avoir un plot aussi intéressant aussi dingue et de passer malheureusement a côté de son sujet … ca commençait bien, mais je ne peux pas l’empêcher d’être déçu, on sait des les 1er épisodes qui est la sorcières baba … on devine rapidement qui est la tueur en serie et qui manipule, tout es trop téléphoné … dommage ! je regarde rarement des séries chinoises, mais je vais continuer car il y a de jolies trouvailles scenaristiques, mais contrairement aux séries coréennes, je préfères le genre policier dans les séries chinoisesWas this review helpful to you?
