I love it but i wish they have given more...

I watched because a lot of my friends suggested this to me. On the first eps im really hooked maybe also because of the main lead's chemistry but the story and plot was somewhat got lost on the last eps but its still good for me. I laughed, cried, felt sad throughout. It's a typical "fate" type of a story in kdramas but i will always still ate it up so 😸😸 How also they didn't focus merely on the fact that he's a demon but also showed the people's own evilness and demon.

I love that its a happy ending too, idk about u all but i love my kdramas with happy endings idc if its unrealistic but its a fantasy drama in the first place so! Also, i love that they made the male lead still immortal because it stays with their "fate" plot that even on their next life they will always find each other thing.

On the main leads, they played it well even the side actors. I didn't know Song Kang can play comedy lol and throughout the drama, one thing is always on mind - HE'S SO INSANELY BEAUTIFUL😭😭 the same goes with the female lead, i always knew her and watched her past dramas and i know she will always kill it.

For the OST, i love it too! it carries the fantasy vibe of the story. I added all of it on my playlist.

Overall, its a typical fantasy drama that's been going on in kdramas but it still delivered! Song Kang in here is like a breathe of fresh air for me. Would recommended but will i rewatch it? maybe? it didn't really leaves an impact to me or that feeling of wanting to see it again and again but who knows i might find myself watching it. If you're a sucker for fantasy & romance drama, this ones for you.

Strong aesthetics couldn’t distract from the demon who fell faster than you can say “contract"

A dark, supernatural romance, but delivered a baby-faced demon, predictable villain, and a full moon’s worth of missed potential.

Disclaimer: This review is 100% my opinion — I’m not here to hate, just to share my thoughts! Also, SPOILERS AHEAD, so proceed with caution if you haven’t watched yet. Watch it, come back and let’s see if you agree. Let’s keep the discussion respectful and fun! 💕

The Good

Ga Young’s Character Development
I didn’t expect to like Ga Young as much as I did by the end. While I wouldn’t say she wasn’t annoying, she definitely gave second-lead energy in the worst way. But her character genuinely grew on me. She toned down the obsession, started thinking more rationally, and even formed a healthier relationship with Goo Won. A few people found her annoying throughout the show but when you think about it, her actions are valid. Her constantly reminding Do Hee that she was the problem? Valid. Her wanting Do Hee to die instead of Goo Won? Still valid. Goo Won saved her from an abusive father (more or less), and Do Hee, at least in Ga Young’s eyes, was the reason Goo Won was losing everything. She didn’t owe Do Hee anything, and her willingness to sacrifice Do Hee for Goo Won’s survival came from a place of loyalty. It wasn’t villainous. It was real.

Her “Reliance” on Goo Won
Some people complained that Do Hee became weak once she started relying on Goo Won. I disagree. She was still capable and grounded, just not superhuman. He was literally a demon with teleportation powers and the ability to launch grown men across rooms. And she? She was a regular human dealing with a deranged serial killer and an entire company of people trying to sabotage her. Why would she not depend on him? Hiding behind a guy who could literally bend reality isn’t a flaw, it’s called knowing your odds.

The Bad

The Villain Reveal Was… Exactly What We Expected
One of the biggest letdowns of this show was the villain reveal… or should I say, the lack of one. Most of us thought the villain was actually Seok Hoon but nope, the most evil-looking character really was just evil. That’s it. No subversion, no surprise.

It also would’ve been a great twist to see Seok Hoon as the villain, especially since that actor always plays the second lead who never gets the girl. Watching him step out of his usual role and into something darker could’ve been a refreshing change.

Goo Won Looked Way Too Cute to Be Scary
Let’s be honest, Song Kang is attractive. But not in the “hot, intimidating, soul-snatching, rip-your-heart-out” way. He’s attractive in the soft-boy, pretty-face, “are-you-wearing-tinted-lip-balm?” kind of way. Like, here he is about to drop a man off a rooftop, and all I could think was, “His face is so pretty.” Scene intensity? Gone. Mood? Ruined by the baby face.

The Historical Romance Tie-In Felt Tacked On
Maybe it’s just me, but that whole historical storyline felt random. Yes, the Wolsim and Yi Sun arc was tragic and well-shot, but it ultimately added nothing to the actual plot. If Goo Won had remembered her from the past and been drawn to Do Hee because of it, maybe it would’ve worked. I wanted to enjoy it more but without a meaningful connection to the present, it just became a beautifully tragic detour that didn’t go anywhere.

For a Demon, He Fell Hard and Fast
Let’s talk about the timeline. They fell in love in a month. Not exaggerating. One full moon to the next. The gas station fire? Marked their one-month anniversary.

This man had spent over 200 years making shady blood contracts and mocking humans, but suddenly he’s ready to give it all up for a woman he met four weeks ago? Please. That’s emotionally impulsive behavior with a supernatural backdrop.

This is where the historical flashback could’ve actually served a purpose. If he remembered Wolsim and that connection drew him to Do Hee, their quick relationship might’ve felt less ridiculous. The more you think about it, the flimsier the romance becomes. They’re ready to die for each other by week five. Be serious.

Side Characters Were the Worst
Rom-coms need to stop making their side characters aggressively unfunny. I mean it. Every time those assistants popped on screen, I had to fast-forward like my sanity depended on it. Their “romance” was the kind of forced comedic relief that should’ve been left on the cutting room floor.

Final Thoughts
To wrap this up: this drama was overhyped, to say the least. When everyone started obsessing over it and the leads were giving runway-model energy, I really thought I was in for something great. I wasn’t.
There were just too many cracks to ignore, and after a while, I got tired of pretending I couldn’t see them. Between the painfully obvious villain, the baby-faced “demon,” the plot holes, and that random historical twist no one asked for, enjoying this drama started to feel like a group project where only the OST showed up to work.

~~~
What did you think? I realised this may have been a bit harsh so I can’t stress enough how this is all fun. I meant no disrespect to any of the actors or people involved. Brutally honest is my thing so that’s what you get.
I didn’t include everything, so if you want the full version, lmk!!
It couldn't decide what it wanted to be
My typical disclaimer: This is totally my opinion, so please don't come at me with hate.
I will admit to being a romance junkie. I love sweetness, cuteness, and happiness. I was so looking forward to the pairing of Song Kang and Kim You Jung. But, to me, this one seemed like it was all over the place, trying to find a place to land.
Story: Not original by any stretch of the imagination. I kept thinking that I'd seen certain things in other dramas and the one that stuck out the most was him burning up, a la Goblin. So, he became a demon because he killed himself? If the crazy family member that died in jail became a demon as well, that would have been interesting. So, we've got the past lives that we've seen so many times. I do have to say that the past lives parts were beautifully filmed. Slow motion of her dancing with the swords, her hanbok billowing out, that was lovely. Evil family - check. Red herrings - check. 2ML Lee Sang Yi as Seok Hoon has the look of a villain and they took advantage of that. That character had no purpose other than to show that someone else is pining over the FL. The title of the drama could have been better titled "You think you're a demon? Wait until you meet my family!" Yikes, so much evil. Irritating 2FL that will do pretty much anything to get the ML - check (I am SO tired of this!) Quest for power - check. Everyone in the family has their own wants, they all hate each other and will do anything to gain power. Female hobo that is God - the thing that stuck out most to me was in some scenes they forgot to use makeup to make her teeth look rotten. Then we had the obligatory "things that make you go hmmm" scenes. The police couldn't arrest the bad guy because they didn't have enough evidence? They had him dead to rights, yet they arrested her with no evidence, mainly because she didn't do it! When Koo Won went away toward the end of the drama, where did he go? He went away, but not, he'd come to her at night. And can I just say this woman must be a REALLY deep sleeper if she never knows that he's rubbing her hair, her face, and getting in the bed with her.
Acting: Good, except for the sister of the head guy in the family. She was seriously overacting.
I normally put what I liked at the top, but in this case, I had to rate lower because of all of the above.
CHEMISTRY: Oh, so, good. Both romantically and comedically. They were just such a darling couple together. The wardrobe department dressed them in complimentary outfits, so the attention was on them and their actions. And it doesn't need to be said, but I'll say it, both Song Kang and Kim You Jung are SERIOUSLY beautiful. If I could have seen more of them and less of everything else, my rating would have been much higher.
Kim Hae Sook at Chun Sook. I LOVE her in everything, and when she got killed off early on, I was mad! But here, I was glad of all the scenes where she showed up to comfort Do Hee. The Christmas scene with her, and her family, at gift to Do Hee from Koo Won, was especially beautiful.
I wouldn't tell anyone to run away from the drama if they asked, but I can't really recommend it either. I was so disappointed. I kept holding off on watching it because I thought it was going to be my new favorite. Alas, it was not to be.
Could have had a more thoughtful ending
Full disclosure: I watch way more BL than straight drama so this was already at a disadvantage. But that's also part of why I gave it a fairly high rating; opposite sex, same race couples are boring to me yet I kept coming back to watch this one.
I'm surprised by the amount of hate this is getting, but I understand why some folks are disappointed, especially with the ending.
I like the idea of this show. The representation of the devil as having emotions, a backstory, and a sincere purpose. The evil that men do, and the price of complicity (duplicity? ). Families are complicated. Etc. And I didn't totally hate the execution. But, there was room for improvement.
I wanted more of the assistants story. I really liked them a lot. I wanted more of some of the other characters too. It was so focused on the mains that we missed out on some of the interesting and fun side stories. I wanted a better ending. I'm all for the happy ending, but don't pull it out of thin air. It needed to be stronger and more grounded in the weight of the story. They wrote a suspenseful drama and gave it a rom-com finale that was tied up a little too nicely even by that standard.
Also, I don't know why, but it took me a VERY long time to finish this one. It was months of starting and stopping, but not for any particular reason. I think I just found other shows that were more interesting and this is the one that got paused. Again, I'm more likely to be watching BL so this is probably a me thing.
Overall I enjoyed it, but I doubt I'll re-watch any of the episodes.
Side characters were funny
I don’t usually take to k-Humour… but I found this drama quite funny;) Kudos especially to the side characters- the office colleagues, the two assistants and the Wild Dogs gang! Amidst the dark, mystery thriller plot, their light -heartedness and slapstick comedy made it quite enjoyable.
Of course the visuals of both Song Kang and Kim You Jung speaks for itself, and their chemistry was quite believable. Stylist did a good job with his and hers outfits and hair.
Some of the underlining storyline and character roles were a little confusing, and it can be a little scary with some scenes. All in all it was a good watch.
Perfect balance of fantasy and romance
My Demon surprised me with how well they managed to do a romance drama while still keeping the fantasy elements all the way through, and keeping an entertaining storyline. I will say that most of the twists were fairly predictable, but even still the story itself was very enjoyable to watch.
Jung Gu-won (Song Kang) plays a demon who makes deals with people in exchange for their soul. Additionally, he has powers that essentially make him invincible. Do Do-hee (Kim Yoo-jung) is the CEO's favorite potential successor of Mirae group, though she's the only non-blood related candidate. This naturally creates tension within the family of this corporation, and the lengths to which the other family members are willing to go to in order to destroy Do-hee become clear as the story progresses. When a twist of fate bring Gu-won and Do-hee together, they both reluctantly become reliant on each other, which leads to unexpected romance between them.
Overall, a great fantasy romance. They somehow managed to hit every romance trope and still pull off each one. The actors have great chemistry together, and the development of the relationship is well-paced and fun to watch.
Goethe’s Faust as a Fantasy Romance Drama?
Ok, not entirely but “My Demon” definitely contains many elements of Goethe’s famous classic drama “Faust”. “My Demon”, however, is awesome and sweet. A very enjoyable fantasy romance drama.
The acting is very good, and I really mean every actor. There is not a single weak performance and every actor matches the character that they play perfectly. The good cast elevates a story that is probably not that new and innovative. But the story is also well paced. After every comedic passage the tragic twists hit me in the guts.
“My Demon” throws quite a lot of things in the mix that can or cannot be believed and/or can or cannot be criticized - rebirths, God/universe, heaven, hell, various religions … Sometimes humans are eviler than the devil himself. Human greed and moral corruptness are infinite and the few pure souls are being crushed.
However, the final episode ultimately proves that we aren’t watching a classic tragedy but a romance drama where good wins over evil - those that are able to love and make sacrifices find salvation. Although, we as the audience have to swallow some sad moments along the way. The ending is VERY sweet - for some maybe too sweet - and entirely glosses over the past deeds of the demon and the perspectives of a relationship between an immortal and a mortal person.
But even if you don’t like the story at all, you can still enjoy “My Demon” simply by marveling over the handsomeness of its two leads, Kim Yoo Jeong and Song Kang, (and their outfits - kudos to the costume designers). These two people are incredibly gorgeous individually but together they are UNREAL - and their unrealness is probably one of the points this drama wants to make…
About making choices, greed and doing the right thing
I like this drama based on fantasy and supernatural. As human we tend to make decisions irrationally, then get you into trouble feeling regrets. The demon or angel in the story just gives you the feeling that there is no other way out but to take the deal from him. Dunno if I will do that. In my opinion this drama had presented a lot of whys and how the hell questions for me with those situations feeling helpless and desperate. We argue, hate and destroy each other, and we also love, help and save each other in the end. Happiness comes from misfortunes? and other trivial things. Feeling happy IMO is all different experience. It's an okay drama for me. I cried a little over the FL feeling sad and alone in some scenes with flashbacks of losing parents and having to love your savior and be abandoned again. Will I rewatch this? maybe or maybe not.
Not the Biggest Fan.
I was watching this with a friend and while it made it better, it still felt like ten nuclear bombs came at me an episode. It was overwhelming and yet the plot kept lulling in certain areas and it felt like it dragged itself out. Some plot points, such as the final arc, were incredibly out of left field.
I enjoyed every character in the cast except the male lead, and all of the side characters and side stories were great.
It started with a bang. It was fun to watch at the beginning. That love hate relationship was very cute at beginning but as you watch more, you realise that story has lost it's steam. This should have been 10 or 12 episodes Kdrama instead of 16. As a result story do stretch unnecessarily in the end. There are few filler episodes in the end. And also ending doesn't make much sense. It seems to me that they didn't know how to end this Kdrama.
This is why first few episodes were best part of this Kdrama after that you wish that it should end quickly because at times it feels that story isn't going anywhere in the middle. And it doesn't help the fact that story basically ended in 15th episode and they tried to explain too many things in the last episode and it didn't quite work out as a result you do feel that they ended this unfinished as you don't get any answer of how their relationship would last since one isn't human so virtually immortal and other one is mere mortal!!
So yeah, it's kind of disappointing in that sense despite the strong beginning! I think the writers must have figured we have two pretty leads - we don't really need a story so they read the trope book and filled in the blanks with illogical nonsense.
A Visual & Emotional Fantasy Epic
The Story: A Contract with a Demon
My Demon tells the story of Do Do-hee, a "devilish" and cynical heiress of a massive conglomerate who trusts no one, and Jeong Gu-won, a powerful demon who has spent centuries making deals with humans. Their lives become dangerously intertwined when Gu-won temporarily loses his supernatural powers, which are somehow transferred to Do-hee. This momentary loss of power ironically brings them together, leading to a contract marriage and a search for happiness amidst chaos.
My Personal Take: Fated to Fight
What struck me most about this drama was the "twisted fate" the couple shared.
The Past Life Connection: The plot revealed that their souls have been connected since a past life, which ended in tragedy. This added a heavy layer of fear—the fear that history would repeat itself.
Fighting for Love: I loved watching them face their individual battles just to stay by each other's side. It wasn't just about magic; it was about the human (and demon) will to change their destiny.
The Ending (Spoiler-Free)
Going into this, I was terrified it would have a sad ending. However, I was so relieved that it has a great, happy ending. Even when things look dire for the Demon, the story brings it back around in a way that respects their love and completes their journey.
Key Takeaways & Favorite Lines
This drama left me with some really profound thoughts:
"One shall never say never."
"Happiness has no meaning without misfortune."
Final Verdict
A perfect blend of Fantasy, Rom-Com, Sci-Fi, and Action. If you want a drama with top-tier visuals, a "past-lives" mystery, and a couple that will do anything for one another, this is it.
The worst k-drama I have ever watched
I don’t normally criticise k-dramas because I do genuinely love them but this one undermined my expectations.
I was expecting an exciting fantasy with deep plot twists and a forbidden love sort of romance
I was disappointed save for a couple of things
Liked:
The acting of the villains. The entire family of Seok min had me convinced. Both Seok min and No do gyeong seemed psychotic and their acting felt like a flame. I liked Se ra’s acting and thought she portrayed a terrified and traumatised mother really well. The gangsters also sometimes got a laugh out of me. And the scene where Jin ga yeong helped that little girl. I thought that was the only powerful moment in the show where she not only helps the abused child but she also heals her own inner child. Do do hee’s acting was good too.
Disliked:
Hated that from the beginning Gu won was always there to save Do do hee; so much so that it started becoming predictable and also stole Do do hee’s sense of independence. I know it’s a fantasy but in reality, there’s not always going to be a prince to save you so it sets unrealistic expectations for viewers. There has to be a level of realism and it lacked in that sense.
When Do do hee just woke up, when she was hanging of a building, and when she was dying , she looked perfect and this took away the believability/realism of the series. It was too idealistic. It restricted me from connecting with the story or the characters because I was completely being reminded that this is all fake. And when seok min came back alive. Like wth bro he just fell of a building the size of Big Ben and your telling me he’s still alive? Oh and then a huge rock feel on him and once again, he survived! How believable!!
The songs weren’t bad themselves but the song placements were appalling. The entire scene where Do do hee and Gu won dance on the balcony (you know when she stands on his toes and they dance to that music?) Yeah I hated that scene. They used the song that do do hee was literally TRAUMATISED from and Gu won had the audacity to label it ‘our song’. Get out. It was so unsettling and I had to pause the kdrama for a minute just to go over what the hell jus happened.
Do do hees trauma was overlooked. Her parents died, then Madam Ju dies, a serial killer is after her, and on top of that, Gu won is offering her no emotional support. Another scene where that creepy song starts playing is when someone’s phone starts ringing with that song and she clearly looks terrified but Gu won just looks at her. He might of asked her is she was okay but that’s all. That’s all you’re going to say to your lover who is suffering?? Oh and btw this was the scene before the dance on the balcony scene. He saw that she was terrified from that song and then labels it ‘our song’. Gosh he was such a red flag.
The series itself just dragged in general. I like the past life story but it was just so random and had no correlation with the actual story line. The writers should have gone with one or the other and personally I think they should have gone with the past life storyline and scrapped the entirety of the main story. It was so boring and I learned no moral message from it. It may have been good if it was written better and in less episodes. 16 episodes was a drag
When I discovered that Gu won made a deal with Do do hees father and he was the one that ended his life. Okay take away the fantasy element and he basically killed his wife’s father. No they hadn’t met yet but she was still very quick to forgive if you ask me. Like I was shocked when I found out but she was still chasing after him mad in love.
Also when they had that break and they weren’t seeing each other anymore, why did Gu won teleport to her house and watch her sleep? Again if you take away the fantasy element, it’s really strange and non-consensual. Like just because it’s a fantasy doesn’t mean he can break normal boundaries. Again, such a red flag
And I love Seok hoon I thought he was the only character to truly give emotional support to Do do hee. I genuinely wanted her to end up with him. BUT when he became chairman I was so disappointed. Yes it was a plot twist but it was bad. We wanted Do do hee to become chairwomen and reclaim her independence. We wanted for her to have a girlboss moment but in the end she’s just going to live as the damsel in distress.
The comedy parts were so unfunny. The parts where I was supposed to feel sympathy I felt none. The romantic parts felt forced. Everything about the k-drama just made me uncomfortable. It was a melodrama and I recommend it to no one. The only thing I learned from it is to drop my expectations for K-dramas and that fantasies/ magical elements will try to cover up poor writing.
And honestly there’s more I could delve into like the clichés, unnecessary side characters, rushed scenes with no time to emotionally process, superficial and hollow relationship between the main characters, Song Kang’s acting wasn’t the best, characters with a lack of self and mixed personalities which make them seem inauthentic, Seok hoons ‘burned’ face (it looked like someone smeared clay on his face and splatted red dye - again so artificial) . Uh and just so much more.
My friend recommended me this and now I’m never trusting my friend with kdrama recommendations again 😭
