Sister and ML Daughter are carrying this show ??♂️?
dropped after ep 4 , the FL just pisses me off so much , like how is this family so stupid and the sister is the only sane one and seeing her for who she really is 🤷🏻♂️ I can't for the life of me get through this , the sister and the ML daughter are carrying the show 😒🙄Was this review helpful to you?

My rating might have been higher with less episodes...possibly
What I loved:-Park So Yi as Bok I Na. She is a terrific young actress, I've loved her in everything I've seen her in, and am looking forward to her growth as an actress.
-The youth romance of I Na. I would have liked to see more of them.
-Oh Man Seok's character of Gi Ju's father. What a calm, warm and lovely character.
What I didn't like (not in any particular order):
-I have liked Jan Ki Yong in other works, but I didn't think he did a good job here. He didn't look depressed, he looked drugged. I felt like he was just moving through the drama. I got no emotion from him.
-Chun Woo Hee looks just like Song Hye Kyo to me. Since I'm often not a fan of SHK, I struggled.
-The timeline was all sorts of a mess. For me, the fact that she was there showed that she survived in the past. No matter how they tried to explain it, it didn't make any sense to me.
-Did the ML and FL hate each other IRL? They had absolutely no chemistry with one another and didn't like each other for so long, I never bought them as a couple.
-Can we talk about amazingly bad haircuts of Gwi Ju and Grace?
-The weight loss story for Gwi Ju's sister. We see some of her struggle, but her massive weight loss was overnight.
-Pretty much all the characters other than the couple I mentioned. Her family (and she) were awful! I get that they were swindlers, but I never really saw them turn around until the last episode. Same for his family. I just didn't like them.
-Repetitive, repetitive, repetitive script. Enough with the flashbacks.
For me (please remember, this is just my opinion), I was extremely disappointed in a show that I was so looking forward to watching.

It had so much potential, but I can't accept the female lead at all.
The way she was at the beginning and throughout was disappointing. I'm on episode 4, and after reading the comments and confirming what I predicted was going to happen, I decided to skip everything and just watch the moments with the daughter. When I saw edits on TikTok, I thought the show focused mainly on her. Anyway, I don't care about the other characters. I started watching for the girl, and it seems I'll continue only for her. Also, I'm frustrated—why did they treat the female lead like that in the family? In episode 4, the male lead tells her everything so easily! Do they (the family) not know how to be cautious of strangers? How do they know she won't steal from them? They know nothing about her.
So I "completed" it, though I won’t hide the fact that I skipped most of it after episode 4. I'm bitter about the female lead and their relationship. This show had a lot of potential, but I don't think it deserves the high rating it has. Most of the time, dramas on kisskh are rated accurately, but this one is one of those traps—you see a high rating and have high expectations. I've fallen victim to this many times, which is why I usually read some comments beforehand.
I wish the drama had focused more on the daughter, and that the male lead never fell in love again. There should've been someone to help him realize his mistake. Moreover, they could’ve added mystery. For example, maybe they never knew why his old wife died, and it turned out to be a murder. The family members could’ve been more interesting characters with more intriguing superpowers. I think you get my idea. This could have had action, mystery, and maybe even some romance between the daughter and the boy, with good interactions as they grow up.
Anyway, this might not sound perfect, but English isn’t my first language, so I can’t express myself properly. The 4.5 stars are only for the daughter:)

A Touching, Suspenseful, and Whimsically Unique Ride
The Atypical Family is a refreshing blend of fantasy, family drama, and emotional depth. The story revolves around a once-superpowered family slowly losing their abilities due to modern-day issues like stress, depression, and insomnia. It’s a clever and humorous take on how today’s lifestyle can weigh us down—even if we were once superheroes. The bond between the hero and heroine is heartwarming and real. Their connection grows naturally, and it becomes the emotional center of the show. The drama also highlights important messages about parenting, showing how emotional distance can grow when families stop truly communicating. It’s a reminder that love and attention matter more than money or ambition.
“I See You,” the recurring OST, is absolutely stunning and appears throughout the series, adding depth to many emotional scenes.
With its unique concept, touching relationships, and a touch of suspense, The Atypical Family stands out as a must-watch. It’s not just about powers—it’s about healing, connection, and the true meaning of family.

Very confusing, terrible writing
i started watching this since everyone was talking about how different and innovative it is. it was a bit boring at first but it got better. after their superpowers were revealed i expected that they would do something nice for someone other than them. and they would use that to save others and all. but the storyline was messy. i tried to blindly believe some things just to see the ending but it was messy till the end. so much potential but doesn't make any sense. also the ending how does the kid even be to bring back his long dead father. it is so confusing. if they had cleaned up the plot a little it would be one of the best kdramas. i don't know it everyone hyping it up understood it or just liked the ending with no explanations.the ost, cast, and acting was nice but it could have been much much better. i was confused on why they didn't just use another actor for when the sister gained weight but it kinda makes sense after you watch the whole show. the daugther(ina) looks a little younger to be playing a middle schooler along with her classmates.
i am glad it's 12 episodes. i wouldn't have lasted more than that.

sigh, okay...
FIRST of all, jang ki yong what the hell? genuinely, what the actual fuck. alas, i'll come back to this question very soon.second of all, can we leave time travel k-drama plots behind us? i think we got our fill, & we do not need to see it for another..decade, at least!
— to come back to the story, i think that the side characters of this drama really saved face. claudia kim's character, although amazing for a really long duration of the show, somehow gets a really whimsical plotline & development somewhere around the end of the season. some things just refuse to make sense, but the question that bugs me the most is why the lesbian erasure? you build up a genuine story that has a root, a heavy ass trunk && a crown and you throw it away...what for? to fit a heteronormative standard? sure, okay. fuck you though.
— when it comes to our main couple, i simply couldn't see it. i didn't hate the entire con artist / rich clueless man trope, but it lost appeal as quickly as it earned some. mind you, i was extremely excited to see jang ki yong in another role, but this is potentially the worst role of his career. at the beginning everything's fine, and you're trying to overlook his responses because of his trauma & mental battles, but some things just get fuuucking old. and these writers dragged it so long; they sucked every drop out of the 'helpless dad' trope. grow a fucking backbone, you're not 12.
— and the prepubescent adolescent, ina, pissed me off! but alas, like father, like daughter. some therapy wouldn't hurt their wallets.
—quite frankly, to wrap it up...it was boring, predictable && extremely unreasonable. even the generous 12-episode format felt like too long. ew.

Overrated drama! You will be disappointed...
I'm 43 with 4 young kids. I don't typically spend a lot of time watching dramas. I always read the first ten reviews to decide if it's worth it for me to dive into the story. For whatever reasons, all great reviews... So, I decided to give it a go, especially I'm a fan of the ML.Oh wow, so much precious hours wasted on this drama... #1 - The superpower thing in this family makes no sense... Like, they are special but not using the ability to save the world, very selfish lifestyle ... So, their superpower is meaningless in the story, in my opinion...
#2- This family is rich but does not have the typical glamorous vibe, attire, lifestyle like most Korean dramas. I was waiting and waiting and waiting for the ML to change his look once he is all better but nope, very unattractive throughout the story from beginning till end... Also, no maid/assistant cooking and cleaning for them... So, I'm not even sure if they are still considered "rich."
#3- Not enough romance (steamy scenes). I just don't feel the connection was there, where the ML genuinely saw LOVE in the relationship... There were so much back and forth traveling to the past but i did not feel much was going on to make him fall in love... It felt like the story is meant for them to stay together but without much buildup around the relationship... Lots of annoying/unnecessary dramas... Very boring...
#4-Once it hits episode 6, i was like "Is this going anywhere? I started to fast forward to see if there is anything bigger would happen... Nope... I really had to drop it once it hits episode 11...Let me emphasize that I rarely skip an ending of a drama even though it's bad... I'm all about "let's just finish it no matter what..." Wow, it was a torture from episode 7 to 11... I really wanted to find out why this drama got such good reviews, but in the end, I was like: "Nah, it's not worth it..." So, I still don't have the slightest clue why it got that many good reviews...
Good luck finding out why this drama is so overrated! 😂

Wasted potential
I don't know how people are saying that they've completed all 12 episodes when there are only 10 episodes broadcasted till today.Anyhow, I don't understand the high rating. This show has so much wasted potential. It could have been a mindf**k show with the time travel theme, it could have been the exploration of parent-child relationships, it could have been a show about an elaborate fraud scheme, it could have been a super-hero show, or it could been about mental health and healing. Or it could have been about an epic love story. Even Jang Ki Young was a disappointment if I was wanting to watch an 'idol' drama.
It has been NONE of these. At most I would class it as a somewhat interesting love story, sans romance. I keep watching and waiting for any one of these to emerge, but none has. The only reason I'm continuing is because I just want to see how bad it is at the end.

Rewatching drama
Really it a boring story, I keep falling asleep everytime I'm watching it... Acting is good, but why the f do we have to watch everything in slowmo. explaining every goddamm detail that we get and understand without showing it in every time jump!!! Some scenes really are like oke.. What's the piont and others are that's cool but they switch the story back to the boring explaining a that we already understand...For example him returning to the hospital!! Every goddamm episode it's about the hospital and fire!!! We get it already

Different and intriguing Series.
The series revolves around the Bok family, each member possessing unique abilities. Bong Dong-hee (Kim Su hyun) can fly, Bok Gwi-ju (Jang Ki Yong) can travel back in time, and their grandmother (Go Doo Shim) can see the future. However, they lose their powers due to modern-day problems like obesity, depression, and insomnia. The plot thickens when Do Da Hee gets involved with the Bok family. She saves Gwi-Ju from drowning and later becomes the professional masseuse for the grandmother. Her presence brings about a transformative adventure that crosses time, heals emotional wounds, and tests the limits of reality.
The series is not your typical fantasy drama; it’s a sincere exploration of human emotions packaged in a magical wrapper. The series explores the intricacies of human emotions and relationships, making it a pleasant change from the typical K-drama fare.
The performances by the cast, especially Jang Ki Yong and Chun Woo Hee, are commendable. They have successfully portrayed their characters, bringing depth and authenticity to their roles.
I do know, some viewers find the story and pace a bit slow. But given its complex storyline and the depth of the characters, it’s understandable that the series takes its time to unfold.
In conclusion, “The Atypical Family” is a mix of intrigue, romance, and healing moments. It’s a series that’s well worth seeing, especially if you’re looking for something different and thought-provoking

Not as good as expected
I was really (really REALLY) looking forward to this drama. It was for me THE first half 2024 drama (I was soooo excited to watch it, just couldn’t wait !!).I didn’t read anything about it before watching so I only knew it was about a « super heroes family » who lost their super powers. And also that Chun Woo Hee and Jang Ki Yong were FL and ML.
All episodes were finally available on Netflix, to start watching :)))
First thing I’ve really loved : the 5 stars casting !!! There is not only Chun Woo Hee (in my top 10) and Jang Ki Yong (in my top 10). There is also Ryu Abel (also in my top 10), Park So Yi (she was so great in See you in my 19th life), Claudia Kim (I’ve liked to hate her in GyeongSeong Creature), Oh Man Seo (nice father in SitR), Go Doo Shim (I’ve liked her in Our Blues) Moon Woo Jin & Kim Soo In (they were both excellent as young FL & ML in IOTNBO) !!! So just perfect casting :))))))
About the drama, the first episodes were great. The drama is about super power recovering, intra family relationships, healing, love, scams…. lot of good things/topics.
But to be honest, the more I watched episodes the more I found it boring.
From my point of view, good/big potential of story was not used… it is a shame !
The show has quickly turned into a soft, predictable and a bit boring or insipid one. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying it was not good. There was just a lack of intensity and action (remember, we’re talking about « super heroes » main characters here !!!).
Other point, FL & ML chemistry is not the best one I’ve seen (not the worst one either). I think Jang Ki Yong’s acting skills are better when he portrays « dark » characters (like in My Mister). I didn’t like his « in love » acting. Chun Woo Her’s acting was better but she cannot carry chemistry alone.
To summarize => waste of potential.
I was a bit disappointed because I expected much more from this drama. It is not a bad one nor a good one. Only a average one that won’t be part of my Top 10.
Didn’t pay attention to OST.
No rewatch value for me (I rather rewatch better dramas/movies with main actors, like Be melodramatic, My Mister, Our love story, See you in my 19th life, GyeongSeong Creature or IOTNBO)

What the actual fuck did I watch
I watched this whole drama in one sitting and hated every single episode. I mean the first couple was lowkey cute but what do you mean he cured his depression cause he fell in love... They took mental health very lightly and made him love driven which was weird cause he was depressed from losing his lover. Also I think the female character was used as a pity character that out male lead fell for because of her 'hardship' aka forced to be a gold digger. I feel like the writer inflicted every trauma to this female lead which just made her boring. And this whole loop thing was pretty cool, him being able to back in time is pretty cool as well. And honestly their romance felt forced so yeah... didn't like this. + the daughter and the male lead needs therapy!!! Please 😭😭😭😭Was this review helpful to you?
