"Blossom in Adversity" isn't just a title; it's a promise of resilience and triumph in the face of adversity. As the men of the Hua family face exile, the burden of survival falls upon the women and young boys left behind. At the heart of the tale is Hua Zhi, with her skills, courage, and bravery she steps up and brings the family out from the countryside back to the city life with her business propositions and tricks that wow the city. She makes enough money to get her family out of starvation and they bond over time learning to lean and love each other.

What I love about this series:
What sets this series apart is its authentic portrayal of human interaction. The chemistry between the leads feels refreshingly natural. Rather than being a constant savior, the male lead subtly supports Hua Zhi. Moments like their journey from the jailhouse back to the countryside lingers in my thoughts after it ends. I also loved every conversation they had. He told her enough not to reveal his identity but he never lied to her. And with FL, her intelligence and kindness she extends to strangers not only touched ML heart, it also touched mine.

The OST is also another favorite, I truly think they make or break the drama. I love Curly’s voice and was super excited to see her sing the opening. But the song that won my heart is Night and Day by Baby.j and Liu ZhiJia. I have to say Baby.j has been singing a lot of OST I love so I look forward to them each time. This particular song when it played each time it was usually when they were overcoming a situation, brave and strong. Just like the lyric “I don’t admit defeat or quit; I just run towards the first light” it just tears me up!

While the spotlight shines on the main characters, all the side characters shine just as brightly. I grew to love each one of them even though I couldn’t stand some of them to begin with. Personally love Shao Yao nuanced portrayal of autism and how her character grows as she later becomes a part of the Hua family. Chen Qing and Fu Dong mini love line is also another favorite! I’m rooting for them and hoping to see to grow.

What I didn’t like:
I’m going to get hate for this, but personally, I've seen some of the actors and actresses in other series and I had a hard time watching some of them in here because there was something different about them. And because of that, I felt some of their facial gesture just looked a bit stiff, so knocking off a star because I couldn’t thoroughly enjoy it.

Anticipating:
As the series hurtles towards its conclusion, anticipation hangs heavy in the air, especially for me. I truly hope the ending is not a disappointment.

In the meantime, the allure of the series proves irresistible, beckoning a rewatch as the countdown to the finale begins.

Update: finally finished the series and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend this series to those who want a casual and entertaining series. I love the storyline, the pace, and the characters. The first series in 2024 that I truly enjoyed!

A truly inspiring female-centered story about courage, resilience, and family.

I rarely write reviews but I felt one for this cdrama was necessary.

You see a lot of dramas and series around bragging about having "strong" or "bad-ass" female leads, and don't get me wrong, some of them do, but most of the times those tend to be savage or fighting-types. It's hard to see female leads such as our Hua Zhi, who saves her family from misery NUMEROUS TIMES, thanks to her incredible intelligence and wit. She has literally done it all LOL. Her dedication to her family and to the common people is inspiring, she's forgiving and truly kind-hearted. One of a kind.

The main couple is also pretty cute, with no unnecessary misunderstandings which contribute nothing to the plot.
But more than the couple itself, what's truly heartwarming in this drama is the tightness of the Hua family. I'm personally a sucker for family-driven dramas, and this one didn't disappoint. Each member of the family is well characterized, often has its own arc, and by the end you'll love each and every one of them.

I highly recommend giving this drama a chance, it's truly one of a kind.

Life, love, & adversity!

This is more than just a love story between two people, this is about love that you have for people in your life. Friends, family, and the person who you admire, love is given and received from each of them.

This show demonstrates that with love, you can truly conquer all, money cannot buy love. Love is special, and the love who you receive it from gives you strength to overcome all obstacles!

I truly enjoyed the story of each character in the Hua family, they have come so far from the first episode and to the final episode! So much character growth for them as a family, I enjoyed it very much.

Now the love story between our two leads, although compared to other shows this might not be all in your face but they do have their sweet moments even if it’s less and some might not like that. However, I loved their chemistry every single time they were together. They communicated so well even if there were some mishaps, but they overcame it.

I absolutely felt like this show had no fillers, every episode kept me wanting more.

A must watch!

My Favourite Watch in 2024

Adapted from the web novel “Xi Hua Zhi” (惜花芷) by Kong Liu (空留), “Blossoms in Adversity”, this drama isn’t a one man show. No, rather it chronicles the individual journey of each character. It could be the main leads, Hua Zhi or Gu Yanxi, each of whom had their own struggles; or it could be the female residents of the Hua Family whose sudden fall from grace led them to live a life of misfortune, something they could have never imagined before. Even though they had their disagreements, blood is obviously thicker than water. They argued, fought and yet stood together when the times were worst. How far can a bunch of women hold out when the Emperor of the nation is out for their blood? The story line beautifully weaves a redemptive recourse with a somber romance. Neither overpower each other, they exist in perfect harmony, blending through motions. For now, let’s talk about the main characters and their journeys!

One of my rare watch

this is a rare drama that i don't think(and I'm already dreading) i will see on any other drama. there were a lot of characters that they were only given a few scenes but I'm honestly surprised that their characters have their time to shine and was given their own character development. You wont see this kind of thing in many dramas. Another one is how the leads communicate. FL don't let her emotions cloud her judgement when it comes to the ML. They talk. Although I was lost when she can't do the same in front of the emperor😅 she did talk but she let her emotions win when facing the emperor. Although it ended well, I can't help but feel like they could've avoided this or that if she just stayed 😶. The music is good and is well placed. The atmosphere is good and all, although one scen made me laugh. The one and only kiss scene should've been romantic but I can't help but laugh out loud when they showed it in that hole in the tree. I don't see why they need to do that. For me, that's not romantic at all😅 well aside from that and other scenes, it was a great watch. I haven't been this hooked in a drama not after AJTL. So ❤️❤️❤️

An entertaining story on how to be the ideal, empowered woman and find romance along the way. . .

In the first half, the enemies to lovers plot is extremely satisfying. Hua Zhi and Gu Yan Xi are both earnest characters trying to do their best and find some happiness despite the emperor and fate standing in their way. There's also a lot of endearing scenes as the women of the Hua family band together and become resilient and independent.

But in the second half the plot grinds to a halt. The emperor is not suited for ruling during peace time, and there is no way he will forgive Hua's family. Of course, Hua Zhi and Gu Yan Xi would never rebel, so they just . . . wait for him to change his mind ??? If you were hoping for political intrigue and machinations, there are none to be found.

The acting overall is so-so (Gu Yan Xi needs a lot of music and effects to be intimidating), but the chemistry between the primary couple and the secondary couple both is excellent. I was cheering both couples on and it's the only reason I kept watching the show. The music is fairly good nothing here to really rewatch.

In the end, there is no complexity of themes or plots, but I appreciated the emphasis on women being independent, and I enjoyed the romantic chemistry.

It was fine

I'm coming to realize that most Cdramas have a lot of filler scenes (and this ultimately keeps them from being highly rated--in general-- by me).
The main couple had AMAZING chemistry and were BY FAR the best part of the show. Unfortunately, they just didn't have many scenes together.

The primary focus of the show is the heroine's family and their never ending drama / dynamics. I wasn't super interested in this storyline, but parts were okay / enjoyable. If the romance / main couple had been given as much screen time as the family, I think I would've rate this drama much higher.

Anyway, it's not really a romance. And it was fine for what it was.

OH MY GOD! Such a loooong time since I felt that way towards a drama. I fell in love at ep 1. My fav actress is confirmed, bloody hell it is. I wasn't a huge fan of Hu Yi Tian and I changed my mind soooo quickly this is hilarious. What I love the most in this ain't the romance but the HUA FAMILY! How they try everything, how they put all their efforts in order to accomplish their goal, it was so beautiful to see. I will not say it was a roller coaster since it wasn't at all. There is almost no angst, everything is well managed with... COMMUNICATION. The romance was chief's kiss, really. A feared masked man as love interest who turns out to be a golden retriever and a strong willed woman who isn't scared by what people thinks of her ? I'M ALL IN. The cinematrography was so beautiful too... The only thing I think that could be better was the last part with the King who was fucking annoying. That part could be shortened or angstier for me to really believe it but still it was still ok with me lmao!

BEST DRAMA of 2024

Great story line focusing on growth of FL. Great trust and communication between main couple with almost no angst.

A must watch if you’re looking for a drama with a good story line, great communication between the couple, self-growth, and how the family despite their differences still love each other and eventually resolved their differences and turned out to be closer than ever.

The addition of a pure and kind “low iq” sister of ML was a nice touch.

A must watch!

This is so so good right to the very last episode. There was never a dull moment where I felt I needed to skip. The fight scenes were amazing. The storyline line is tight, cohesive and keeps you on an edge. ALL the actors and actresses, not just the main leads were excellent and endearing to me. It gives me feeling of what I have for the characters in Reply 1988. Don't even bother putting this in a watchlist, just press go and watch this now.

Family that sticks together | Unlocking women's hidden talents & potential | 2nd CP stole my heart!

"Never feel regretful. Everything you lost will eventually find a way to return to you." - Gu Yan Xi

Alright, Now. What a wonderful story. 💕

God knows how many times I was left in tears because of the beautiful, touching, and inspiring essence and values of this story. So, as early as now, I want to thank this production for the comfort and inspiration it gave me. This is another one-in-a-million kind of story that highlights the togetherness of a family and how capable and powerful women can be beyond restrictions.

In retrospect, this drama served as a reminder that "No matter how dark the skies and bad the weather may be, it will always pass, making way for a brighter, sunny day." Therefore, never give in to the pressures of life. Hold on tight, grit your teeth, and move forward. Because life is full of surprises, in no time, you will look back and realize that those challenges were tough but have become great memories that shaped the person that you are today.

The story was well-written—it has great flow, nice pacing, a consistent plot, and hard-earned character development that clearly shows the struggles the characters went through in order to attain the position they now have. Witnessing their slow evolution from a high-maintenance family that only cares about their own branches to an affectionate family fully concerned with the entire household's safety and welfare, all while learning to be expressive, transparent, and reliable for one another, truly touched my heart. Just seeing the progress of every character, both in terms of personality and ability, made me genuinely happy with what they have become. I believe this is the most conventionally united C-drama household I have ever seen. All family branches support one another during challenging moments and have learned how to sincerely care for each other.

What truly solidified this drama for me was the 7th episode. When Hua Zhi (FL) was talking to her Aunt Wu (Ping Yang's Wife) about living on her own, abandoning the family, after getting flogged at the government office. But she was then told how worried each of her family members were—that they started doing things beyond their capabilities and even ignoring their usual routines just to look for her. This scene made me tear up so bad. It was the very moment that she started to realize the true value of her family and the deciding factor to brave and endure hardships with them.

It honestly would have been fine if they had solely focused on rural farm life in this story. The first half of the story has been nothing but an inspirational, laid-back, and genuine experience, that I would not mind if that is all we got from this show. Just a family consisting of kids and women living and working hard to strive for their future. I'm not saying the second half of the story was bad; it's just that I prefer the comfort and simplicity of their non-turbulent rural life over the buzzy, chaotic city setting.

Concerning about 3rd quarter of the story—wedding of the Hua daughters. Although it was executed decently, I just can't shake off this feeling of discontent on how it could have been handled better. I was totally bewildered and unprepared for how this section abruptly changed the mood and trajectory of the show, as it suddenly shifted to an all-out matchmaking event. On the brighter side, I just love the idea that they were being overly careful and considerate in selecting who the girls would marry.

My sentiments on the Hua daughters' stories:

• Hua Qin - I felt disdain at first; however, I cheered when she finally started ruling the household and grabbing a firm chokehold on the concubines!

• Hua Ling - Her story is the most nicely constructed among the three girls. I was so proud of her personality development and genuinely happy that she found a man whom she loves and feels satisfied with.

• Hua Rong - The most cringey of them all, but also the most heartbreaking! I don't wanna spoil much, but she didn't deserve her ending. Huhu!

Regarding the main leads:

• Hua Zhi - I love everything about her. A smart, resourceful, and strong-willed woman. More than anything else, what I love about her the most is her pure, compassionate heart. I love how she cherishes and treasures almost everyone, especially her family members and the people who are close to her.—With the stars as her guide, she faced life's challenges unfazed, grew stronger, and walked out triumphantly.

• Gu Yanxi - I love how bold, resolute, and unyielding he is in pursuing what he wants. At the same time, I hated him for how almost blindly and foolishly loyal he was to his Emperor uncle. Thank God that ruthless but cowardly trash eventually died. I also want to praise how clean, flexible, and powerful his fight choreography is.

Lastly! More than the main leads, I was more invested in the 2nd CP! They could have easily stolen this show if they were given more screentime. They're like the cherry on top that made this show extra appetizing to watch. I was most engrossed with their storyline and really wish they can have their own story produced. They're also my favorite characters overall. I am down bad for Gu Shao Yao and Shen Huan for real!

P.S. I love how their household started as a home for the forsaken royals, and eventually turned into an all-out orphanage for homeless children.

Story - 10, This is one of the dramas I will cherish for the longest time for its inspirational and wonderful story. I love almost every single thing about this show aside from two things: First is Yanxi's blind loyalty to the Emperor. Second is the Emperor himself. Fortunately, Yanxi disobeyed and acted insolently at the end, and the Emperor died, which eased my grievances.

Acting/Cast - 10. I've been keeping this drama in my inventory since last year due to my personal beef with Hu Yitian—a totally wrong move! Little did I know, I was depriving myself of a stellar piece all this time. I enjoyed Hu Yitian and Zhang Jingyi's portrayals. However, for me, Lu Yuxiao deserves the most recognition and praise in this production. Her emotional and facial expressions completely drew me in. Bian Cheng is great too! I love his acting here, and he reminds me of Yang Jungwon (Enhypen member).

Music - 10, I earnestly love each and every song. This is one of the dramas I can confidently say possesses the same quality and sense of musicality as K-OSTs. The opening theme alone is like an introduction to the epicness I am about to discover. The same goes for the ending theme, which exudes a cheerful, youthful vibe that encourages me to listen to the song all the way through. Not to mention the insert songs for each scene, which are all equally great!

Rewatch Value - 10, I will not mind watching it again. Seriously, this belongs on the list of shows that will be forever engraved in my mind for how amazing it is.

Overall - 10, I truly enjoyed watching this drama. There were no dull moments, and I was not bored even once while watching it. Highly recommended to every single drama watcher out there. A must-watch drama!
