Mystery, Horor with a twist of Emotional Roller Coaster Ride
I started this drama without watching the trailer or summary at all. I just knew it's a mystery drama and the list of its actress and actor convinced me to start. As someone who avoids horror movie the most, I was on episode 2 before I paused for awhile. I had to admit the eerie vibe is both captivating and terrifying at the same time LOL but due to my friend's review that I HAVE TO KEEP GOING, so I embraced myself to episode 3 and I was hooked started from this point. The story started to unfold and many WHYs and confusion from the first two episodes slowly find its way to its answer. My fear subdued and it's replaced with more curiosity.I really love how they wrap the story about life and death in such an interesting metaphor. As the episodes went by, I realized that it is wayyy more of an emotional story rather than horror. For some it might be a fun story but I personally find this is a rather painful journey of the characters which we all as human can relate. How each of them face different path, choose different decision, and had different ending although they had the same complication at first. To add into that, the trigger is not something we choose but sometimes life happened to put us in a situation we never wanted.
If you are someone who is into spiritual and after life world, then this drama will be very much your cup of tea!!

not a 8.5 what..
the highest rating I gave so far this year for a kdrama. they took a run of the mill concept of the afterlife and executed each well- well almost for all. I didn't like the ending like I wish they did his story better. overall, i'm getting tired of kdramas doing cliffhanger-ish endings where season 2 will come. or less likely will especially when this show didn't need another season! Was this review helpful to you?

the story touch my heart
Light Shop is a deeply atmospheric and emotional drama that tells the story of people who are trapped between life and death. From the beginning, the drama creates a mysterious and eerie mood that immediately draws viewers in. The concept of a quiet shop that connects souls who are unable to move on feels symbolic and meaningful, making the story both haunting and thought-provoking. Each character carries unresolved regrets, pain, or unanswered questions from their past, which is why they remain stuck in this in-between space. The drama slowly reveals their stories, allowing viewers to understand their fears, hopes, and lingering attachments. Some moments are unsettling, while others are surprisingly warm and comforting, showing that even in darkness, there is still light and compassion. What makes Light Shop truly powerful is its emotional depth. It is not just about death, but about life, choices, and the importance of closure. The performances feel sincere, and the storytelling is quiet yet impactful, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own lives and relationships. Overall, Light Shop is a meaningful and memorable drama that beautifully explores the fragile boundary between life and death, leaving a lasting emotional impression on its audience. Was this review helpful to you?
The beauty of Yin & Yang, The Border between Life & Death
I personally really love intrically well thought out storylines like this. Its so raw when potraying human emotions. yet the way Yin & Yang, the Life & Death parallels was potrayed using the shopkeepers was so beautiful. It did take halfway through the series to fully grasp what it was about. but the way everything starting merging and coming full circle was such an ingenious way of storytelling that I would literally re-watch this series just to experience the full circle moments all over again

am i the only who feel clueless??
I usually dont watch this kind of genre but what made i watched it bcs its only 8eps. This story really make me blur, how it started and the plot structure make me even clueless. How it jump from one story to another. You could best understand the story only if u finished whole episodes. Anyway, i do love the acting of all of them. for seolhyeon, i rarely watch her in drama but she did good. and eunsoo too. woaa, i watched them in summer strike half eps of light shop i did realise that both were in this drama. Was this review helpful to you?

Back and forth, twists and turns
This is NOT a horror kdrama. Think of this as "what if the victims of Final Destination survive the initial accident and they're trapped in limbo fighting for their lives. The flow of this kdrama is reminiscent of the old Korean movies I used to watch 20 years ago - it time skips all over the place, the story is presented piecemeal and if you are not paying attention, you'll lose the plot. It's almost like it's pretending to be a sophisticated kind of story even when it's not.
One day I hope someone edits the entire series and just present the events chronologically. Or you can ask ChatGPT to rearrange the story in chronological order.

From Interesting to Borefest
'Light Shop' started out as a remarkably interesting drama that had a somewhat unique premise and storyline that was captivating and easily kept the viewer guessing the next move or next twist and turn of the story. This feeling of excitement however only lasted three or perhaps four episodes. From this point onwards, this became a borefest. I don't know how suddenly it became like this, whether it was because of the odd pacing or weird dialogue at points or whether it's because all of my questions about the story became answered, but it's a real shame because the first three episodes in particular were so amazing that at one point I was thinking maybe this would be a 10/10 drama. Some positives would be the cast and their performances. Yes, whilst the story (quality wise) was on a downward trend, I did appreciate the hard work by the actors and actresses. I really enjoyed the depth of the different characters, they all felt full of life and were all different from one another.
I guess the feeling I have right now is disappointment, because it started out so amazing and by the end of the drama it was even hard just to try and focus on the story and pretend I cared.

I'm blown away
Very creative, well filmed drama with a well thought out plot. It looked at first like a very creepy supernatural thriller about ghosts, totally didn't expect the twist in the middle. The latter part was absolutely heartbreaking. The only thing I don't think was worth inserting was Moving characters and its season 2 teaser (?) at the very end of the drama, it should have been self contained. But I guess since the director and screenwriter are the same, and it's the same fictional universe, they decided to have a bit of fun here.

It's not impossible that all the lights in my flat were on and that my cat ended up in my arms during the first two episodes. Me ? scared ? Not at all. When faced with this kind of story, you have to tell yourself one thing : if ghosts existed, there would be hundreds of thousands of them per square meter. We'd spend all our time getting rid of them. The “ignore them, don't talk to them” thing reminded me of King's The Dark Tower, the Vaadasch, the journey from one world to another. The people around us don't know we're there, but they sense us and can become threatening or even deadly if they spot us. Things are going to go badly.
Anyway.
The discreet, cold music reinforces the emotional impact and this rather original vision of the afterlife. A terribly sad atmosphere. In the bus episode, we know what's going to happen, which makes it even more depressing to watch. Silence also plays a major role.
A very beautiful series, admirably well written, particularly thanks to its twist on fear. The ending is heartbreaking. And the poor dog, we can say, was a good girl.
“You must find the light.”

My eyes are burning
At first, I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy Light Shop. The first few episodes felt a bit slow, and I’ll admit, I was a little confused about what was going on. But honestly? That’s part of what makes this drama so brilliant. After the third episode, things really started to come together, and suddenly, I couldn’t stop watching. It’s one of those shows where the pieces slowly fall into place, and when they do, it’s like a gut punch—but in the best way possible. The story tackles some really heavy themes, especially around life, death, and grief. It doesn’t sugarcoat anything, and some scenes hit so hard that I had to pause just to collect myself. I’m not exaggerating when I say I cried a lot while watching this drama—like, to the point where I should’ve kept a water bottle nearby to rehydrate! But what absolutely shattered me was that scene at the end with Ju Hyeon Ju and her mother. It was so raw and so real that I literally paused the show and cried for 30 minutes straight. It’s one of those moments that feels so genuine, like it came straight from real life, and it stayed with me long after the episode ended.
One thing I really loved was how the story unfolds. At first, it feels pretty simple, and there are only small hints that there’s something deeper going on. But as the episodes go on, the layers start peeling back, and it becomes so much more than you expect. Every little detail starts to matter, and you realize how carefully everything has been planned out. It’s the kind of storytelling that pulls you in so gradually that, before you know it, you’re completely hooked and emotionally invested.
By the end, I was absolutely in love with this drama. It’s not just a story—it’s an experience. It makes you reflect on loss, healing, and how we move forward, even when life feels impossibly hard. I know it’s not for everyone because of how heavy the themes can be, but if you give it a chance, it’s so worth it.
It’s unfortunate that a show of this depth isn’t more widely appreciated. Perhaps it asks too much of its viewers, but for those who embrace it, the experience is unforgettable.
Light Shop is, hands down, one of the best dramas I’ve ever watched. It’s the kind of show that lingers in your mind long after the credits roll. I’ll be recommending this to everyone I know (and maybe rewatching it when I’m ready to cry again). Seriously, if you’re looking for something emotional and meaningful, don’t miss this one.
