Mitsuo, recently released from a mental hospital after a breakdown caused by his work during the Tohoku earthquake, returns to his brother Yuta's home. He reconnects with his niece Chie and meets her younger sister, Itsuki. When Yoko's mother fails to help with the children, Mitsuo steps in, but tragedy strikes when Chie accidentally drops Itsuki, causing her fatal injury.
