Adrenaline-packed, high-octane and incredibly exciting!

I'm going to give my two cents on this show and it's my honest opinion - it's amazing and anyone thinking about watching it, should. We rarely get good Korean comedies, much less action-comedies, and this was the best of the season.

This show felt like an homage to all those awesome Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and wacky Stephen Chow movies, and it's sad that a few people can't see that down in the comments. The fights are how they are because of this - full of adrenaline, high-octane and exciting. Hell, I think it's mentioned somewhere that Yun Ga Min practices Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do style of martial arts. If you've watched Stephen Chow's movies, like Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer, you'd understand how flying about while crushing your opponents toes in place, or punching their chest into the concrete floor at an unnatural pace is the foundation for some of the best choreographed fights. It takes a lot to adapt these for screen - it's not tacky, it's a stylistic choice and Hwang Min Hyun manifested it all fantastically.

Talking about Yun Ga Min. People seem to think he's plain dumb, but I think that's a very shallow understanding of who he is. It took him brains to fight too, guys. That scene where he flipped the leader of the school disciplinary gang was actually well thought-out. He's just bad at tests, and it's clear he has some anxiety related to that. I know people just like this - they're brilliant, but get incredibly anxious during tests, causing them to score low. More than anything, he wasn't one dimensional - sure, he was often the smiling idiot who was blissfully unaware of things, but when things got serious, he was confident enough to buckle down and take charge. Honestly, I liked everything in this show, acting included . I enjoyed it for what it is, and it got me kicking my feet like my twelve year old self when watching Shaolin Soccer.

Lastly, don't expect the show to be Weak Hero Class 1. Study Group is in a different genre. This is an action comedy, and Weak Hero is an action drama. Bullying is a common element, but it's dealt with differently in both. Study Group is somewhat idealistic, and that's fine. We need a break from the nitty-gritty sometimes, and the show gives us the satisfaction by answering the question: "what if the good guys won period?"

Put aside all your seriousness, grab some popcorn and enjoy the adrenaline.

THIS IS SO GOOD

You know how I know it’s so good??? My husband who does not watch Korean dramas is actually watching it and glued to it. 😂

Fight scenes are hilarious! The ML’s passion for studying is just truly funny, it’s like he’ll do anything to study.

The group itself is a good mixture is idealists and realists… strong and weak… brain and dumb. 😂
Perfect mix!!!

THIS SERIES IS SO COOL

I just came here to write a review on how I am hooked up with this kind of drama, its my first time writing here btw. The intro and outro music is very catchy, so cool! 2 episodes yet I'm inlove with the cast. Everyone is pretty and cool. The lead actor is cute yet OP, he kinda looks like Cha Eun Woo ! I'm so excited for the next episode <3

A drama that made my heart, soul and brain happy

I m gonna be honest. I m going to look past the flaws of this drama because of the sheer joy it brought me while watching it.
This drama worked for me due to the convincing and earnest performance of each of the actors and the fast paced story telling. Sure it had an anime kinda quality to it, but when you are faced with good quality writing and acting who the heck cares about nitpicking,
This drama is surely in my list of best 2025 kdramas and thank god the year started off with a bang.
Looking forward to Season 2( hopefully they greenlight it soon).
Shout out to actress Yoon Sang Jung,...girl you were an fierce little muffin, hope to see her more in future.
Also not leaving behind Hwang Min Hyun, hope to see him more in well written dramas.
South Korea please keep it coming.

Spectacular !!! Best !!!!

Oh my goodness , I just finished watching a study group and it is the best of the best until now . All the actors with their characters really gave a thrill and of course going deep inside the characters
#hwangminhyun #yungamin is a handsome fool who loves to study and he really is a fool and I Really really liked his character and he portrayed it very very well where I am lost in words to express it .
#ChaWooMin #pihanul He is very charming and gives a bad boy and psycho vibes
And the reality is who is normal in this drama all the characters have something they believe and go to any extent.
#hanjieun #SHINSUHYUN #yoongsangjung The girls/Ladies are on fire actually and Likes them very much
#LeeJonghyun #kimsehyeon He is Literally a sweet heart and support everyone and I love how he surrenders every single time #yungamin goes to him to convince to study.
#gongdoyu #Leejun His character is also very different and attractive and of course he is obsessed with fighting
Overall The drama is dope and I literally recommend it if someone has not watched it . I really hope we get a season 2 and I think we can have hope by the ending and Direction, visuals and all are top and I am obsessed. I don't know how I am going to spend my Thursday further .
How can I forget about OST's , They are Gems and whenever I listen the songs in bgm i am speechless.

CREATE OPPORTUNITIES EVEN IN HELLISH SITUATIONS

Study group, my Thursday drama. What will I do now knowing I don't have 3 episodes waiting for me at home? Will I be able to survive on just one? As much as I have loved other dramas, I think this might have just lit up a light bulb in my head. With the love between friendships, to the real world lessons, we have seen the characters grow each episode. I've been watching since the beginning, and I don't know how quickly I can let them go. This friend group showed how far someone can go for the sake of love.

The acting within this project is phenomenal. I felt as if I was genuinely a character in the show with how much emotion and attachment I've grown upon these characters. Honestly, I have so much thoughts but I'm unsure how to put them into words. Did I cry when I finished? Yes!! Was it because of the episode? NO!! It was because I already missed them.

The story follows Yun Ga Min, a student who strives to excel academically but is only skilled in fighting. He forms a study group at the most troubled school imaginable and embarks on a determined journey toward the college entrance exams. Though Yun Ga Min appears to be the model student, he attends Yusung Technical High School, one of the most challenging environments for education. Despite his relentless efforts, his grades show no improvement. Nevertheless, he remains focused on his goal of attending college. When his study group friends are bullied, Yun Ga Min sheds his glasses and uniform jacket, using his fighting abilities to defend them. Lee Han Gyeong, Yun Ga Min's teacher, is determined to improve the school. Having tutored Yun Ga Min during her university years, she reunites with him when she is appointed as a temporary teacher, carrying a secret of her own.

The premise of this story is both intriguing and relatable. Yun Ga Min’s character, someone who is determined to succeed despite being in an environment that doesn’t support his academic ambitions, really taps into the struggles many students face when dealing with a challenging school system. The combination of his academic dedication and hidden talent for fighting adds an interesting layer to his personality, making him not just a typical student but one who has depth and complexity. The school setting itself, labeled as one of the worst places to study, seems like the perfect backdrop for a transformative story. It gives Yun Ga Min the opportunity to not only grow personally but also potentially lead others to change. The fact that he’s willing to defend his friends and stand up to bullying shows his loyalty and sense of justice, giving him a hero-like quality. On the other hand, Lee Han Gyeong's role as a teacher who wants to improve the school and has a hidden connection to Yun Ga Min adds an element of mystery and mentorship. The blend of personal growth, hidden potential, and an underdog school setting makes this story inspiring.

Honestly, I did really love the plot. There was so much depth to it that I can't describe. Although I really liked the plot, I think I loved the characters more. Se Hyeon was probably my favorite character, not only because he was a cutie but also because he tried his best to show his potential. In the last episodes, he learned to start to protect his friends. He wanted to try and use his own strength, even if he wasn't that powerful. To protect his friends in this situation he used tactics to beat up those stronger with him. I just really like the way his character developed from being a little quiet shy guy at the beginning into a still quiet guy but able to stand up for himself.

Overall, this was a great watch. I'm definitely going to miss them, but I can't say I regret watching. I love Min Hyun, which I could just be biased because I just love the man himself, but I also have found other people in this series to love. This drama has shown how far you would go for the people you love, even if you don't directly say you love them.

Most amazing fighting school show ever in my opinion. The cast are amazing and the ending just finishes off where it looks like we might get a season 2 (hopefully). I really would like to see if the characters dreams come true or not. And maybe a bit more story lines around Pi Han Ul and find out why he is the way he is and if he does come out of prison what his life ends up like (hopefully good).

One of the bests this 2025

I just finished the 10th episode, and now I am anticipating for Season 2. One of the coolest school dramas ive ever watched. And of course, hwang minhyun never disappoints--from the perfect visual to perfect fighting skills to acting! The other casts are also spectacular. The story is the typical school bullying but is accented with different approaches/genre which makes it more interesting and unique.
So overall, I want season 2.

Should Be Called Fight Club, Not Study Group!

Study Group is an adrenaline-packed drama that grabs you from the start! Despite its title, there’s hardly any studying involved—it’s all about the fights, and honestly, they’re incredible. The action scenes are thrilling and choreographed to perfection, delivering non-stop excitement that rivals top-tier action movies.

Hwang Min Hyun, playing the male lead (ML), delivers a strong performance. With his glasses and unassuming appearance, he initially gives off Peter Parker vibes—except instead of a spider bite, he’s somehow a Roman Reigns-level fighter! His punches send people flying like balloons, making you wonder if they went a little overboard with the wirework. Still, if you embrace the over-the-top action, it’s part of the show’s charm.

One of the most surprising aspects is the undeniable chemistry between the ML and the female teacher. Their connection feels way stronger than a typical teacher-student bond, but it adds an intriguing emotional layer to the storyline.

If you’re looking for jaw-dropping fights, engaging character dynamics, and a plot that keeps you hooked, Study Group is a must-watch. Just be prepared—it feels more like Fight Club than a study session, and that’s exactly what makes it so fun!

Study Group fights Injustice in Highschool !

Seo Yul teleported to modern era highschool and he's kicking butts here as well!
The ACTORS, DIALOGUES, SCRIPT, FIGHT SCENES!! EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING!
Honestly, there is nothing bad about it! Great Intro/OST and handsome face villain and hero! What more do you need?!
Of course Study Group was about everything BUT studying lol and who cares!
Ga-min and his gang of misfits were perfect for this school of thugs! All of them did a great job!

This kdrama has everything- from suspense, thriller to action, comedy and cute moments as well. Ga-min having just one thought throughout the drama and that was to create the best Study Group ever, and with that cute face of his, he really won my heart!
Our handsome villain with his soft voice, had me thinking maybe he wasn’t so bad. I watched some spoiler reels, and ended up thinking he wasn’t the guy who murdered that teacher. Until the very end, I was hoping for his bad guy character break but oh boy I was so wrong!
The villain and his dad need a good bashing! I'm glad he was expelled! Ha
The same guy is a cutie in Melo kmovie and I had a hard time believing he was the same guy lol.
All in all love this drama!

Rewatch value: 100/100 !

K Drama at it's Violently Comedic Best

Coming from Australia and not being Korean I have been amazed at the amount of excellent k drama writing, directing and acting talent taking the world by storm. 'Study Group' is my new 'Squid Game', the high school version.

It begins with the hilarious script, with comedy parts no doubt penned by Oh Bo Hyun, from 'Island' and the hilarious 'Behind Your Touch'. How she came into partnership with this quite brutally bullying gangster action drama was a stroke of someone's genius. Without her this would be a tough watch as it is very physically and emotionally brutal.

This leads me to Wanna One and Nu'est god (haha) Hwang Min Hyun. He's racked up quite a few great roles and awards and rightly so. His comedic timing and screen dead pan face is a killer, literally lol. There are many scenes where his inner monologue is screaming, but with dead pan eyes, then BOOM out it comes. I can only guess this would have been tiring for him to film on many levels, but I'm hoping he gets award kudos for this role (after he finishes his military service I guess, excuse my ignorance here).

I could go on about all of the actors as there are some heavy hitters in this great cast but I'm not really a review type of person, however, I do want to mention Ju Yeon Woo, I may have had some tears at the end of ep. 8, his story arch comes pretty fast with a big wallop at the end, cheers to him! I'm also guessing Shin Su-hyun had a great time being a heavy hitter (pun intended) in this drama, she was excellent.

The OST kicks off (pun intended again) with Zerobaseone's Seok Matthew and Park Gunwook's 'Backpacker', awesome track. The killer tho is Bang Yedam's 'Hollo', especially at the end of ep. 8. Can't wait to hear the rest of the tracks.

The violence is horrendous so be warned and I can see why it's not so popular for many viewers, but I can also see why it's currently ranking no.1 in many places. If you can hang in there, there are meanings in there in regards to academia, survival and doing what's right.
