the best of the best 10 000/10
I re-watch the entire series at least once a month, or sometimes more. Love it soooooooo much. I have also started reading webtoon. It's sensational they adapted the story, the acting of Taevin and Joowan is awesome, and the chemistry is hot. When they laugh, I laugh with them, when they are sad, I cry with them. No matter how many times I've seen it, they always impress me in every episode and point me in front of the screen. I love them, and this beautiful and shocking love story so much. Im going to re-watch is for hundreds of time. I hope we will see more dramas with Taevin and Joowan toghether. Was this review helpful to you?
defo one of my top bl’s now!!
I’ve watched a variety of bl’s and one thing I’ve noticed is their are hardly any bl’s with a good storyline especially a unique one they are normally all based in a highschool, with a boy with a crush on another boy or something similar.. This bl was not only unique but also creative !! Their is depth.. care .. a lot of hard work that was put into it and you can tell that it was actually cared for unlike most bl’s where their is no depth and you can tell it was just made for the money 😭Was this review helpful to you?

Cute, Bubbly with a dash of Suspense! Love it!
I have watched a lot of BLs and there are only a few that I try to watch at a slower pace just hoping they won't end soon.THIS one bl kdrama has been added to that list! Loved everything about the show! The amount of fluff, cuteness, comedy and omg I couldn’t stop laughing at the main lead regretting his decision to date a 19 yr old kid, and said kid bringing him a sunflower on their first movie date! Lol Can it get any cuter?!!
Myungha being so relectunt to accept his feelings and the intial 2-3 episodes had me laughing so much omg!
There is nothing that I can complain about within the series. Honestly it had everything needed for a nice drama - good acting, nice story and suspense, good pacing and overloaded with cuteness but not the kind that would make you cringe.
Rewatch value: 10/10 !
It's definitely going to be my go-to comfort drama when all the cdramas break my heart with their sad endings!

Not at all what I was expecting
My god I don’t think I have ever been more ashamed and embarrassed than I was whilst watching this show for taking the story synopsis and trailer for such immense face-value. I initially thought this show would just be your average, cutesy, puppy-love-type bl (in other words, nothing special lmao), but god it was so much more. I came for Cha Woongki, and left with tears.Although, my initial assumption of what this show would be wasn’t completely incorrect; it was quite a light show for the most part. The immense puppy-love was there as well, though mostly portrayed in only Yeo Woon’s character. However, this show did have its dark and sensitive topics: Suicide, abuse, abandonment, etc., but to my surprise, the way they handled these topics was outstanding, beautiful even. I won’t go into detail, since I want to keep this review pretty much spoiler free, but I will say that this story probably handled all those dark, sensitive topics, better than most of the stories I’ve seen that contained the same subject matter. Thought, despite the amount of sensitive subject matter, the show still managed to find a good balance between that and the light-hearted scenes, and that is also something that I find beautiful about this show.
The characters were fantastic, and the acting for each character was even better. I’d like to especially mention the acting of the two main leads. Their acting was good to the point where you can almost hear everything the character is thinking and feeling by just looking at their eyes, and that amount of skill that the lead actors showed is something that I find extremely admirable. The characters were also quite complex/multi-faceted, which is part of what made them so entertaining to watch. I will say though that, unfortunately, the side characters were a bit underdeveloped. The story never went into depth with any of the side characters, and we only saw what Tae Myung and Yeo Woon saw. It’s pretty much as if their characters really only served as plot devices. Though, I wouldn't blame the writing, but rather the duration of the series. However, I’d like to treat the underdevelopment of the side characters as a sacrifice for how well developed the two main leads were, because how could a writer possibly have the side characters be as developed as the two leads and the plot given the time constraint.
The cinematography and editing is, with no doubt, one of the best I’ve seen in a piece of media so far. It sounds like an exaggeration, and it could be since I’m too busy geeking out right now to think about all the great cinematography I’ve seen before, but it’s still nonetheless phenomenal lol. Something about the cinematography is so satisfying to watch; the creative camera work, the beautiful coloring that alters depending on the mood of the scene, and the editing to make the show seem more game-like, all just came together so perfectly. The music was pretty good as well, maybe minus a couple songs according to my taste since I’m not a huge fan of just plain pop songs, but that outro song in episode 6 is so good I like shazamed it but nothing popped up so I don’t think it’s released yet, but they better release it soon man I need to add it to my playlist.
Anyways, this show has given me complete hope in bls for 2024. Last year, more specifically the second half, was quite rocky for bls guys I’m not gonna lie. With a show like this, though, I think 2024 has this in the bag with bl for sure. Remember, 2+0+2+4 = Ate (I hate that I can’t put emojis in reviews, this sucks).

spectacular in quite possibly every single way.
oh boy, do i have a lot to say about this show. love for love's sake was on my list ever since it released, but with school and my focus on watching anime rather than bls, i never really got around to it. that is, until i really locked back in on all the bls i missed this summer. i remember hearing about everyone freaking out about this show when it first came out. i heard all the praise but i never thought it could ever be THAT good. i literally could not have been more wrong. this story is SO good. it has so much more to it than you would expect. myungha is such a good character. he is so relatable and his backstory is so well fleshed out. also that one scene where he kisses the homophobic guy was literally so much aura like i felt it through the screen. while i did kinda have some trouble adjusting to the fact that he was actually 29 trying to make this like 18 year old like him, i got over it pretty quick. honestly it does lowkey sound weird but I PROMISE ITS NOT. yeowoon seemed kinda annoying at first. he "doesn't like anyone" and that kinda pissed me off in the beginning, but when he and myungha got comfortable they were SO cute. yeowoon was so clingy like guys it was adorable thinking about it makes me wanna cry. these two actors really hit it out of the park with their roles. every emotional scene was played so well. thinking back to that one scene where myungha is running and he keeps like getting lost and he's in all these new places and the game is breaking like i was STRESSING taevin really played myungha well in every scene. the side characters here were also really good. i loved sangwon and how he lowkey was in love with myungha too like yes baddie i'm in love with myungha as well like join the club. kyunghoon was so freaking cute bro like i literally loved him. i literally could go on and on about this show its just that freaking good. the last scene where they're all on the beach is so beautiful. the scene where myungha decides to go back and spend the rest of his lie with yeowoon made me cry so freaking hard. lowkey its making me tear up just thinking about it right now and i watched this like four months ago. the emotions in this show are REAL. honestly love for love's sake has left an insane impact on me and i sure as hell won't forget about it anytime soon. Was this review helpful to you?

This is one of my favourite bl after semantic error!!!!
I watched this last 2 days ago and I still can't move on!!! All the characters are so cute especially yeowoon>< The plot is so interesting and the actors portrayed so well! We can see that yeowoon's love for myungha. His voice when he talked to his senior is so cute !!!I almost cried at break up scene it's so hurt:(( I'm glad that they're together and we got happy ending but S2 is desperately needed ㅠㅠㅠ we don't get myungha telling I love you to yeowoon directly but yeowoon did it two times and I'm so sad for him:(((All I want to say is that the drama is so good and I enjoyed watching it. If you all trying to watch this , go watch it. It's worth watching! it's so cute seeing yeowoon clingy to his myungha
This is my first time writing a review about a bl series because I really want everyone to watch this!!!! Sorry for any mistakes!!!!

Creative, fun, but incosistent
This drama is a Korean BL, and by that, we all know what it means - it's simple, the acting is mostly okay, but it has technical problems and script inconsistencies. It's no surprise that this drama became popular; it was fun to watch. The plot is really creative, and you will have a good time watching it if you can ignore some plot holes (that honestly are so small they become unimportant) and the awful pace and cuts. The major problem with the script is how inconsistent the characters are. Myungha is the only character that, I believe, the writers put some effort into. Sangwon is a plot device, and so is Yeowoon. They both change personalities based on Myungha's conflicts. Sangwon feels like an NPC, not the main love interest. And then there are the siblings. What's the point of them, exactly? What did they even add to the story? For the girl, is she just the quota female character? (something that always annoys me in BL because most of the time they create a female character only for the sake of a female character, and they NEVER give them any development, or they are just annoyingly obsessed with the main character).
The characters were just lazily created. At least Sangwon should have more of a personality, but following the BL recipe, he went from "I don't like you, and I don't like people" to "obsessed with you, I will do anything you want" really quickly. His character is incredibly boring.
After saying all that, people will probably be angry already (because the drama is popular and I bet people will get angry), but wondering what's with the high score I gave this show. First: it was good, like I said, for a Korean BL. We don't have a lot of interesting things in the KBL industry. Second: fantasy is always fun to me, and the high school setting is good (so we can justify some actions as "they can be annoying because they are still teenagers").
The story also had some lessons about loving yourself that, again, is only about Myungha. He was the only character with real development. It gave some RuPaul's "if you don't love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else." It also mentioned about finding happiness in a simple things (but the whole plot was nothing but simple, come on. He was made to play a game, and the other guy falling in love with him was literally his mission).
I believe if the characters were better written, this show could become Korea's best. At this point, after so many examples of it, the KBL industry should realize that people don't want the cold CEO character type and their dumb naive bottom; people want relatable characters like Myungha.

BEST KBL
Great and unique story though I found the story quite confusing at the very end. But the message of the series is really timely esp to those who are struggling. Taevin's acting is topnotch. Him and Joowan has a great chemistry, love and hope to see them both again. Supporting characters are very nice too. This series deserves the attention and fame it is recently getting. It would be better if this has been like 16 episodes and 1hr per ep. You shouldn't skip this masterpiece, you will not regret it. I just really hope taevin and joowan works with a longer BL series again. Maybe a lighter or romcom story. Please don't do a second season, it is fine as it is right now. :)Was this review helpful to you?
god is real and he has filler
it is i, the niel.i don't even know where to start with this review. hats off to everyone involved. this is fantastic, you must watch it immediately.
by far the best kbl i've ever seen. this series had so much more substance than any other kbl i've watched. once you get into the last few episodes, the content gradually shifts into a much more serious and mature storyline than what you originally signed up for. i think that this shift alone strays away from the typical face-value entertainment you see from the majority of bls, and it started becoming compelling for queer viewers beyond escapism.
the feeling you get when watching this show is different than when you're watching typical lighthearted bls. it still leaves you feeling good, but it fills you with much heavier emotions that make the joy more impactful. i can't remember the last time that a show made me tear up.
this show is well-written and well-directed. the acting is what sold this show. the way that the leads were able to portray such stark differences of their personalities made the shifts in character and emotion recognizable without it feeling jarring. they were equally strong actors during both cheesy and dramatic scenes. there were some big tone shifts, and if this show and the acting hadn't been as high quality as they were, they wouldn't have been able to bridge two different genres of storytelling as successfully as they did.
i've never encountered such a unique plot in a bl, and it was refreshing. i think that bls can oftentimes get repetitive, and this felt like something new. it goes way beyond the typical high school setting. in an interesting turn of events, the coming-of-age feeling stems from the plot, not from the characters. you get to see the story mature and deepen as the show progresses.
overall, i would absolutely rewatch this show, just to pick up on minor details. specifically, when it came to the way they filmed shots, the game messages/missions, and the nuances of the characterization of the leads. i was gripped the entire time. it had me engaged, and i was met with a gratifying emotional conclusion. hallelujah!!!
best,
the niel.

Most moving and fascinating show I've ever seen
I went into this show not expecting it to affect me the way that it did.It started so funny and sweet, and the plot was so interesting that I wondered how this would end.
The tone shift halfway through changed everything. I don't want to spoil anything, but rest assured, there is a happy ending!
This goes past being the best BL I've ever seen to being the best show I've ever seen.
Truly recommend!!!

Amazing storyline with charismatic casts
Feb. 1, 2024Love for Love's Sake is that Korean drama BL. It is one of the best written shows for the BL genre in a while. I am so happy and amazed at how the storyline progressed. Each episodes, the story just keeps hitting the write spot. And I am really really happy at how the Kdrama community is showing love and recognition to this type of plot line. As a big manhwa reader, this type of plot may not be other people's cup of tea as it is very unrealistic in terms of how it is a gameline and kind of like an isekai genre.
Huge shout out to the production team and the manhwa creator as they really put the work needed to make this show just fantastic. I love the "learning"?, or the theme that they were conveying. Especially with the execution of the scenes. Although, there were parts that were omitted from the manhwa. It wasn't something that bothered me as much.
In terms of the casts, I love them all. They did equally well in terms of portraying the characters to life, and they were even able to put their own little spice and twists to them.
I can't believe that the year has just started and Korea has already produced a remarkable BL that sets the standards so high.
Please continue to give the reception and love this show deserves!

Different in the best way
Love for love's sake story takes on an "isekai" like plot, with good acting , story and production quality. The overall fantasy of the show is very welcome into the K-BL genre as I personally feel like there's a lack of fantasy/sci-fi etc currently. The story itself has some convoluted moments towards the middle/end however the conclusion of the show works really well in my opinion and hits an emotional punch. Of course this show isn't without flaws, but even without the comparison to what is already available in the BL market, I'd say this is at least an A+ caliber show. I'd recommend this as a must watch for the unique premise, overall production, and lead chemistry. Was this review helpful to you?
