Jinqi's father really been useless since forever. Hearing this story about Jinqi, seeing him beating his father at barely 8 (that's really young) because of his womanizer behavior makes me understand why even now he tends to rely on power and force to have things his way. He had to be grown too soon and must have rely on such things early to just navigate in his family, especially with younger siblings and a mother all relying on him. Not that I justify his tendency of forcing his way, just saying I get where it came from now.
Also, glad Lanxiang got to hear that story. She also discovered another side of her husband. :)

  I don't hate him and I think that's definitely a testament to Liu Xue Yi's ability but also how the writers have made his actions consistent and understandable given his characterization thus far.
  
  To be clear, I'm not justifying his behavior, but I understand it. (The groundwork was laid early on in the story that explains his behavior, but nothing excuses it; understanding why a person makes a bad decision does not mean I agree with the bad decision).
  
  Everything he's done so far is consistent for the character and makes sense (from his point of view and given his background). The most radical thing he's done so far is fall for the FL, but that just shows how much potential the character has (he's obviously brilliant if he recognized how amazing the FL is without her needing to come from a wealthy/high status family, and that just makes me like him more.)
  
  But If he starts acting outside of character (without a good reason to do so) then I'll likely start disliking him. As it is, I'm giving him a chance to learn and grow. His character arc is the best so far.

  Haha. True. I don't think there are too many true haters who don't want him to learn and find a way to redeem himself but it does seem like there are a few.
  
  The young newlywed comment was funny to me because they aren't sleeping together when many newlyweds can't keep their hands off each other. And he's the one who is older with the scars and blemishes to prove it while she is a bit younger and totally radiant especially in the glow up clothing. Lol.
