Praise Liu Xueyi for his performance in "Lan Xiang Ru Ru" is really good. A good actor really knows how to enchant a character.
Lin Jinqi's character was quite at a disadvantage in terms of script; he started off as a point deduction, but this character later established himself. It wasn't because the script added aura or highlights, but because the actors understood it well and performed precisely, adding credible emotional sources to a gray-scale character with reasonable logic
Acting is essentially a second creation. The script gives the character its destiny. Many characters are not very likable just by looking at the script and may even have flaws. But excellent actors know how to use their bodies as a medium to transform literary characters into subjective aesthetic images, enchanting the characters. The essence of enchantment is to give the characters authenticity—not to force filters or whitewash behavior, but to uncover the motivations behind their actions, fragility and contradictions, relying on eye contact, details, and micro-expressions to fill in the blanks, allowing the character to step off the page and reveal the contradictions deep within the character. The audience may disagree with Lin Jinqi's approach But you can understand why he does it. The audience sees no longer just events in the plot, but a living person
. The script makes the character unlikable, and actors use their performances to make the character real. Authenticity itself is the most convincing charm.

Agree. He makes every scene count—from the lighthearted moments to the heavy ones, and especially those in-between scenes that might feel merely passable with a weaker actor. Liu Xueyi delivers them with such precision that even the smallest moments feel intentional.

Lanxiang burning that piece of evidence says so much about who she is. She knows exactly how tragic it is for an entire clan to be destroyed, so despite her resentment toward Jing Qi for taking away her freedom and marrying her without her consent, she is still able to set aside her personal grievance and do what she believes is right.
Her kindness still prevails. To her, living does not mean being consumed by revenge or deliberately hurting someone else just because she has been hurt.
And then that tear falling from Jing Qi’s face… it is the moment he is reminded again just how extraordinary the woman he married really is.

LX saving LJQ was like an angel appearing from the dark cold. She's so darn cute, even in turbulant times. Her holding a carrot stick in front of the mule bc she can't ride a horse. Gaaah, I found that so endearing and cute.

I'm excited to see how the romance portion of the drama unfolds since the director/writers have done such a good job with everything else thus far.
Coming up, after watching ep 35 and the previews that are available, I suspect Xu Lan Xiang will tell Lin Jin Qi that she will never be the kind of wife he longs for and that he needs to let go the idea of her reciprocating his feelings. Ever. And I do beleive she'll tell him this as a way of being gentle and honest, because she can't see herself ever loving him (due to all the baggage between them). Her intentions will be good but he'll still feel heartbroken and sad about it (but won't give up, since that boy never gives up).
But then I think something REALLY BIG will happen to change her mind, reframe her perspective, and have her re-thinking everything she knows about him. I think this big thing will make her fall ass-over-ankles all at once. Luckily, we still have until ep 47 for some good scenes. :-D2 Reply

After burning the proof of Jinqi’s so-called treason (which I call saving an innocent life and adding one more good karma to his life), there was this subtle shift in Lanxiang’s expression when she called his name in her head. It was almost like, “Oh, so you actually have the guts to go against the emperor?” And I’m pretty sure she admired that.
Because let’s not forget, the one person—or rather, the one position—that Lanxiang genuinely hates in the drama is the emperor (for the obvious reasons). She has always seen Jinqi as being way too loyal to that same emperor. So when she realised that he isn’t just blindly following orders and is actually willing to make decisions based on what he believes is right or wrong, even when it means going against the emperor to save innocent lives, I think that made her see him differently.
And this can actually help Lanxiang understand Jinqi better—what kind of person he really is and what kind of morals he holds.
On the other hand, Jinqi is slowly beginning to understand through Lanxiang that women have needs, freedom and choices too, things that were barely considered for women in that society and era. He did take her for granted in that regard, even if he didn’t fully realise it at first.
That’s what I really love about their romance. They’re not simply falling in love; they’re gradually getting closer by talking through their differences, challenging each other’s perspectives, and learning more and more about who the other person really is. "That, to me, is the real beauty of their romantic story."

This drama is definitely a romance (and better than many). We see intensity in the relationship and in the process of discovery.
I don't like dramas where there are so many hugs and kisses but—because it feels like the characters don't even really know each other—we don't sense the layers of their interaction. But here, in Against the Current, I feel that depth (to the point where it feels like a real relationship)..💓💓💓💓💓💓😊2 Reply

I saw a clip somewhere (and Lin Jin Qi and Lan Xiang were dressed in white and actually kissing). Is that AI? (Tan Song Yun might have thrown people off the scent and not revealed anything more... which is why she said there would only be one kiss. What a married couple these two are!)
