After patrolling some areas they find a section where children are playing and wearing reed fluff shoes. The materials are scraps left over from the military jackets. Lan Xiang and JinQi have a poignant conversation about what the poor are willing to do to survive. They have a way in with LanXiang agreeing to go undercover as a seamstress seeking work. The dogs are the biggest obstacle and she has a drug dosed handkerchief to give them a sleeping draft in their water. She does this under the guise of being terrified of them. She senses they are getting ready to change locations so she pretends she has a store of cotton to sell so she can return to capital. This results in a direct confrontation with Lu Datong and Lin JinQi. Lan Xiang is held hostage but bravely stabs him with a needle allowing JinQi and his men to take care of the men inside. JinQi thinks he can reason with the man and did not take his sword. The man opts to kill himself so their witness is gone. They learned he was from Wo where cotton is scarce and can’t be bought legally. This is when JinQi realizes an official is colluding with them and they stakeout the docks where the cotton is expected to be transported to Wo. Lang Xiang is in bed convalescing and saving her reward for a later time. She has a nightmare and is comforted by her friend. I liked her attitude about medicine. Down it at once rather than by spoonful to drag out the bitterness. She and Yuchang have a candid conversation and LanXiang learns that her actions saved YuChang from being sold as a bride to provide betrothal gifts for her brothers. The reward for her part covered the gifts and her parents agreed to not rush a marriage. This was an exciting adventure where LanXiang’s survival instincts kicked in to use that needle. Even the men were talking about it and one commented that JinQi had that same look when surrounded by Wo pirates. The parallels between these two getting more interesting.

Another stressing episode 😵💫 By the end of the show I will have gray hair, I swear 😆When Lan Xiang stepped in to go into the enemy's den, I was like why? Don't you want to lay low? Now she has a new PTSD... 😠Buuuut, she caught Young Master Jin Qi's attention even more now. He was a bit intrigues by her, now he fully is. The way she gave him a new perspective about the servant lives and he got to witness her words turned into action under his own eyes, she will linger in his mind. hehehe(when he will fall, he's going to fall hard and won't even realize when it all started, can't wait 😁)That other maid (can't recall her name, sorry ><) who was almost sold by her family, ugh why is everyone's life so painful and tragic 😭😭😭 (I know why but it's still so sad to see, got to complain (crying Moon))P.S: we all agree Jiu Guao has a thing for Yu Chan, right? The little sweet treat under the disguise of "These didn't sell" was so cute. ^^

Another unforgettable episode. I really loved that we got some action (and amazing action at that), but I am so sad it caused Jialan another trauma and gave her nightmares. But how could it not? She's not used to bloodshed, and death in general is very traumatising for her. 😔And they are growing closer by the minute—especially him to her. I can see that. He already cares for her a lot, no matter if that's because she's his servant or because she helped him. I think he genuinely likes her as a person, and that's where the worry and care are coming from the most. And Nanke telling their master and Lanxiang have the same fierce look in their eyes that says they have to survive... They are alike in so many ways that they could be considered soulmates, yet they don't know that yet. 😌And I love the friendship the maids have... especially how dear Lanxiang is to all of them. She has helped them unintentionally in ways that anyone would be grateful for for the rest of their life. My example this time is Gantang, who was saved from being sold by her family. 🥹🫂Loved the little scene where Jiugao gave sweets to Yuchan. It was done so casually, yet I think it was because he likes her. 🤭

Jia Lan finds herself in mortal danger while investigating the case of the spoiled wool in the soldiers' coats. Clever and cunning, she poisons the water of the fierce guard dogs and enters the seamstress's house, spinning a tale about a deceased husband and a shipment of cotton for sale at a bargain price. However, as she exits, followed by the man under investigation, he spots the unconscious dogs and realizes something is amiss. He holds his sword to Jia Lan's throat; he knows she is connected to Commander Lin's soldiers. Jia Lan stabs the villain in the leg with a hidden needle. Lin Jin Qi and Jia Lan rush toward each other; their hands touch and clasp.he flung her behind him. Terrified and with blood on her neck, she hides behind a flower pot. A fierce battle ensues—swords clashing, punches thrown, and martial arts maneuvers—and though Lin Jin Qi subdues his adversary, he fails to get the answers he seeks; the villain, even given the chance to live, chooses death by his own sword. While examining the corpse in the morgue, Lin Jin Qi notices calluses on the man's feet and hands, leading him to realize a connection involving the surname "Wakuku" (from Japan) and the location's year-round need for cotton. This will be the next step in the investigation. Earlier in the episode, Jia Lan and Lin Jin Qi had a conversation revealing a shared trait—a determination to do whatever it takes to survive—as they had both endured similar experiences. Later, a subordinate soldier and friend of Lin Jin Qi draws a comparison: "I saw the same look in Jia Lan's eyes that I see in Lin Jin Qi's." When another soldier asks, "What look?" he replies, "The fierce look of someone who gives everything to survive." Suddenly, Lin Jin Qi arrives and overhears the conversation, causing the men to quickly compose themselves. As Jia Lam recovered at home, Lin Jin Qi told her, “I won’t inform your country about your injury” (“that’s what I did during the war; I didn’t want to cause my mother worry, and I know you feel the same way”). The other girl—a maid and friend of Jia Lam—expressed her gratitude to Jia Lam for sparing her from a forced marriage; her family had intended to sell her off, but the money the maids earned from the successful investigation into the Cuíque flower changed that. A tear of joy fell, and they went to sleep, united by their friendship and gratitude. (Now, let’s see what Episode 14 has in store for us.)
