Goodbye Du siblings and good riddance

Du Zheng didn’t lie, nobody would strike JinQi from behind. He went full press and charged him up front and personal. Commander Yuan dealt a mortal blow with arrow and Du’s last words…was Cuique successful in killing the Lins? What irony to hear this from the one who took a blade for him. The two wounds side by side. Cuique? She was found out and poisoned with her own toxin. She literally drank the cool aid and was reveling that so many of the Lin clan would die with her. She brazenly pointed the finger at LanXiang for causing it all because YuChan used the bathwater that was supposed to kill her. LanXiang proved to her that their were women successes not do to marriage. The silk undershirts she liked was created by a legendary icon that even had a shrine dedicated to her in appreciation of her craft. She was forced to take the antidote before going to prison for killing her maid. Nanke got the doc there in time and the antidote so everybody would recover. The maids were given a banquet and all were enthusiastically toasting Lan Xiang when the men returned. They all surrounded JiuGao and Nanke for toasts leaving JinQi and LanXiang to toast privately. They had a brief chat where JinQi was amused at the drunken LanXiang who was still smart enough to choose silver over flower scent. 🤣 He felt guilty for relocating the Dus to his city and ultimately his home and wondered if his efforts is what killed Zheng. LanXiang was sober enough to tell him they were greedy people and it wasn’t his fault. That there was nothing wrong wanting a better life, but we weren’t supposed to tread on people to do it. He wanted to know why he felt so awful when he didn’t do anything wrong. Lan Xiang told him it was because he was a good person. That simple definition made him pleased she thought of him that way. He wanted more praise but she had passed out. 🤣He sees her as damn near perfect and deciding how he feels about that. The chips start to fall and judgment is coming for the fraudsters and colluders. Better days are finally coming.

Once again, Savior Lanxiang in da place !

"You can't trample on others just because you want a better life." - LanxiangDu Cuique... Her motive to do all that was that as a woman of that era, she was asked to only aspire to marry when she wanted a career of her own? HmmI feel for her, I get why she laughed hysterically when no one would understand why she does not see marriage as the ultimate thing she wants in her life. But to go to the point of killing just to marry rich and have better options, that was going to far. I really like the clapback Lanxiang gave her with her story. Letting her, and everyone knows such women exist, even though they did not have it easy, they lived according to their wish so what Cuiqe wanted was not impossible, it was just not the easy road.Xiuwan, follish til the end... Thanks Xiuru for shutting her up by reminding her how selfish she was moving with her idyll. He's not even hiding his interest anymore, lol. The man fell first and hard. Because what do you mean, now he just smiles when looking at her, even from afar?He was so cute when he was flustered after she caught him looking at her, please. The man just touch her with no worry or care about social status now, he even drinks from her cup. And when she let him know, he just flashes his dimple and pretty smile! How he followed her, worried she would trip & fall so he was always ready to catch her anytime. The way he sat on the stone stair and they were at the same level? 😍 aaaaaah Also, he feels comfortable enough to confide his grief to her? And here comes our favorite girl always having the right words and telling him he's a good person!Help! Somebody catch me while I'm melting. 🫠🫠🫠The romance hasn't even begin and I'm already half gone 😆P.S: the look he gave her when she replied he feels awful because he's a good person, mama! Like he was shocked she had a good opinion of him? Like an arrow bearing Lanxiang's name pierced his heart? Drunk Lanxiang sealed her fate of being his one & only right there. 🥰P.P.S: no comment on the fact that he carried her to her bedroom after she fell asleep on the stairs! Instead of showing us orchids, they should have shown us her in his arm!!! 😏

Didn't enjoy this one so much. It felt…

Didn't enjoy this one so much. It felt like too much talk, not enough show yet it still didn't really explain what was up with Du frère & soeur.

Orchid flowers that are more fragrant at night

This episode features many clashes between key characters. A plotline was resolved, enemies were unmasked, and there were moments of frustration as well as salvation for many characters. Regarding the dialogue of the villainess Du Cui Que—who we know won't disappear in this episode, given that the drama's poster shows her pointing a weapon at the female lead and a group of people—she was unmasked here. Her expensive gauze undergarments and other costly items aroused the suspicions of the other maids; furthermore, it was clearly stated that she was responsible for the death of Lan Dang. She intended to die along with everyone else, but she wasn't allowed to; the antidote was forced into her mouth against her will (though perhaps in future episodes, they might regret letting her live—just a guess on my part). In her speech, Du Cui Que reveals her hatred for a subordinate position (marrying into a powerful family was the goal, whereas marrying into a less significant family would be a disgrace). Using her dowry to help her husband rise in rank? That would be a humiliation. Mrs. Qin countered all these arguments: “We helped you. Even if it wasn't for you to marry Lin Jin Qi, we would have arranged a good marriage for you!” Lin Jin Qi also reflected on this during the episode: “I just wanted to help the two siblings. That’s why I brought them to our manor. I really don’t understand. Was I wrong?” A slightly tipsy Jia Lam replied: “No, you’re just a good person.” The two of them sat there on the garden stones. Jia Lam breathed in the scent of the orchids and explained to Lin Jin Qi that they are fragrant at noon, but far more so at night. (Could this be a metaphor for their story? Does this love need to be built from the heat of the day into the night to become unshakable?) Du Cui Que was exposed. Jia Lam said: “Lin Jin Qi didn’t bathe in that water; we took some of it and gave it to you to drink. You expected Lin Jin Qi to be unconscious by now, but that didn’t happen. He is actively resolving a problem.” (Xiu Wan still tried to defend Du Cui Que, but faced with all these arguments, she realized with frustration that she was walking into a trap.) On the battlefield, Lin Jin Qi saw his supposed friend, Du Zheng, attack him with a sword. After many clashes—sword against sword—showcasing the flexibility and fluidity of both men in a raw, well-choreographed fight, we heard the sounds of steel; one fell, the other rose, and we waited for the moment a blade would tear into flesh. But before that could happen, the Marquis loosed an arrow that dealt a fatal blow to Du Zheng. Later, in prison, Du Zheng lay with an incurable wound, receiving painkillers to ease his agony. Yet, even as he mumbled, he asked Lin Jin Qi—who felt a mix of gratitude and bewilderment— “Did it work? Was the Lin family killed?” (That is when a look of concern crosses Lin Jin Qi’s face, and he quickly leaves.) Upon arriving home with his two aides and friends, he finds all the maids celebrating, realizing that everything is fine at the estate. A conversation then ensues between Lin Jin Qi and Jia Lam as they sit together (he treats her as an equal, though she shows him the deference due to a lord). There is also a moment the camera chose not to show—not a kiss, as we haven't reached that point yet—but rather Lin Jin Qi carrying her in his arms after she fell asleep on the garden stones. (Lin Jin Qi’s footsteps are light; the camera focuses only on his feet, obscuring the rest of his slender frame, then pans to the now-empty garden stones where the two had been sitting—confirming he carried her away.)However, the episode concludes with the commander—the one who shot the servant at the Lin estate and had intended to assassinate the Marquis (another commander)—facing arrest and judgment in the presence of the other soldiers and Lin Jin Qi. "You chose the path of injustice, and now you shall face your punishment." (I hope that in Episode 19, Jia Lam’s reward isn't being sent far away from Lin Jin Qi.) We shall see.

Dealing with the Du siblings

Very satisfying to see both Du siblings go down in the same episode and fail at whatever they were up to. 😊 And really... WHY did they hate the Lin family so much? Maybe Du Zheng saving Jinqi was staged as well just to get him and his sister a way into the Lin family? And one of the most interesting things I have noticed is that every villain that is caught and possibly linked to that big scheme, when asked questions of "why", prefers dying over telling anything. What makes them choose to die for that plan? I still suspect Old Master Zhao to be behind it all, but maybe there's more. 🫣Jinqi and Lanxiang were so cute... Her telling him he's drinking from her cup and receiving a mischievous smile and "So?" as an answer... Him following her and trying to catch her every time she staggers, yet not really daring... 🤭Their conversation was so natural, and they talked without that distance created by one being a master and the other one his servant. They were more like friends, equals in some ways. And she said he's a good person, which only means she as the last descendant of the Shen family doesn't hold a grudge against him. 😌
