to set the stage for a courageous female who is hard-done by her father and her murderous brother. The male lead has to come back from his father's military losses which he blames on 'the female' general. Was it her fault?

It was the best beginning ✨✨ ✨ and I’m absolutely amazed by the how strong is fl she’s not just stunning but her role makes it all just so perfect this drama totally deserved 10/10

This was a very impactful episode. We start with the bravery of troops fighting overwhelming odds, the betrayal causing reinforcements to arrive too late, and the discarding of the courageous to make room for those feigning honor and loyalty to emperor. He Yan has been disguised forever as her ailing brother. She received martial arts training as soon old enough and was partnered with the general’s son to be the two swords that would secure the empire. We don’t know why she was delayed but the general died in her arms as she arrives too late to support them. His son is rightfully angry and grabs the twin sword they were given saying she was unworthy. She vows to clear the general’s name and then is poisoned and hidden in the very temple she has never seen but always assumed to be healing in. Her ‘brother’ shows up to claim all her glory and to outright lie about the occurrences on the battlefield. He steps right in and immediately wants to silence his sister. The father and son are nauseating in their treatment of the very people that fought to the death for their protection. They have taken the most loyal and banished or silenced them to keep their treachery and disguised son’s secret. They poisoned He Yan so that she was blinded and then still wanted her life. It is interesting that she and Xiao Jue meet briefly when he intervenes and thwarts the plan on her life. Both unaware of the treachery behind the scenes. She escapes and has a run in with fake general’s guard. What I like is that she met that guard with courage fighting with what she had. While still defeated, that guard knew he was fighting a general and not the weak woman he claims her to be. He assures the general she is dead and they feel secure in their deceit. Somehow she survives and is healed by a physician well acquainted with her. She can now see and is as determined as Xiao Jue to make things right. She enters the garrison with a smile feeling she is at home and ready to get started. I liked how Xiao Jue and He Yan walked mirror paths. They are equally determined to get to the truth that occurred on that disastrous day 30k troops lost their lives. They are both willing to put their lives on the line and even tho coming from the lowest place possible, they are free from the He’s and can pursue their goals with unbridled determination. I really enjoyed this first episode. It laid out the premise for these two quite nicely.

Nice start, but it could have been a bit better. As someone who hasn't read the novel, I found it a bit confusing. I hope we'll learn more about the characters' backstories in future episodes.

Honestly ep 1 was really nice and the switching from the past to the present was also very well plotted with them also giving is their little background of how they met before she became a general

The Beginning is good, recalling memories from the past, how He Yan had to become a substitute for someone, wearing a mask since childhood, freedom was prohibited, not restricted but prohibited. After being a substitute of someone for so long, almost forgetting who you are, she'll rise again. I knew it, Goddess ZY is back!!! The intro looks good, this opening theme, ost will be saved in my playlist, it's really good, the lyrics are good. I have waited so long for them. Okay so General Xiao dies at the beginning and HY being General Feihong was late and the General Xiao lost his life, Xiaojue and HY, said to be Wei's twin stars, and the Qinglang Sword entrusted by Gen Xiao was confiscated by Xiaojue. I'm loving the aesthetics. This trashy father is already frustrating me. In front of the Emperor Xiaojue pleading to clear his father's name. And General Feihong was summoned, the one who came wasn't He Yan. Pulled his sword out of the scabbard and slashed He Rufei's mask, ah that's a beautiful scene. I'm so angry, all her life she was forced to become He Rufei, now that she has achieved merit, he suddenly arrived to swap the identities, and HY wasn't allowed to go to the court. XJ will have to reclaim the lost territory through his own means, no additional soldiers will be given, vowing to clear his father's name. While He Yan after meeting her brother HR, the first gift she received was a poison, casted her aside after all her efforts, and now left in a temple, the poison took her eyesight. While HR still not satisfied, wants her dead to leave no trace behind of the identity swap. The meeting near the pond ahhhhhhhhhhh! XJ giving her a hope to live, when the killer wanted to kill her by moving objects cause she is blind, she can only move around after observing the objects around her. Now letting her escape on her own so she'll die accidentally (obvious murder), the fighting scene was good, her being blind and closing her eyes to sharpen her ears. I know it's just the beginning but still I teared up when she was stabbed and pushed off the cliff. Being saved by her Master Liu Buwang. I knew it she will do good, playing a fierce character, abandoned by her family, forced to the edge. But He Yan will rise again, returning to the army and will slowly reclaim everything that was hers. Heading to Yezhou Garrison, to commence her journey.
