Growth, Grief, and the Weight of Family
I loved this drama so much. Reborn really pulls you in emotionally, especially through its characters and the way it handles growth, trauma, and family.Qiao Qingyu’s character development was one of my favorite parts. Watching her slowly gain confidence and come into her own felt so rewarding. It wasn’t rushed or unrealistic; you could really feel everything she went through, shaping who she became.
At the same time, justice for Qiao Beiyu. Her story was heartbreaking, and it’s hard not to feel anger at everything she endured. She deserved so much better.
Ming Sheng, on the other hand, was such a standout. He’s honestly a whole “green forest”, just genuinely loving, supportive, and consistent. The way he cared for Qingyu made their relationship feel sincere and comforting, especially in such a heavy story.
The family dynamics, though, were incredibly difficult to watch. Qingyu’s mother is a complicated character; you can see that she suffered too, and by the end, it’s hard not to feel some sympathy for her. But at the same time, there’s still resentment for what she put her children through. That’s what makes it feel so real: with parents, you can recognize the harm, but still feel obligated to love them.
The father was just frustrating. Not even in a complex way, he was simply a coward. His inability to step up and protect his family made everything worse, and it’s hard not to wish he had done better.
Overall, the adults in this show were honestly infuriating, and that highlights how much the younger characters had to endure.
My only real complaint is the ending. After everything, I really wish we got at least one more episode of Qingyu and Ming Sheng just being happy and in love. That would have been the emotional closure I needed.
Still, Reborn is a powerful and emotional drama that stays with you.

A Stirring Tale of Silent Struggles and Selfless Love
StoryThis is not a sugar-coated tale. It presents a raw and realistic portrayal of societal pressures—particularly the intense expectations placed on a daughter-in-law and the emotional burdens a son must silently carry. The narrative unravels how deeply people can compromise morality to protect their pride and secrets. Amidst this complexity, the love story between Ming Sheng and Quao Qingyu stands out as a moving testament to emotional maturity. It captures how one can love deeply, selflessly, and without expectation—a rare and beautiful kind of devotion.
Acting / Cast
Zhou Yiran delivers a compelling performance as Ming Sheng. His portrayal is deeply mature, bringing nuance and emotional depth to the character. He communicates vulnerability and strength with remarkable ease, clearly demonstrating his growth as an actor. Zhang Jingyi is equally impressive—her emotional range, poise, and authenticity breathe life into her character. Together, they share a natural and captivating chemistry that draws the audience in and makes their relationship truly believable.
Music
The soundtrack is outstanding—emotive, immersive, and beautifully curated. It’s one of those rare playlists that lingers in your memory long after the drama ends, and it’s already earned a permanent place in my Spotify library.
Rewatch Value
Without a doubt, this is a drama worth revisiting. In fact, I’ve already started rewatching it. It stands out as one of the finest works featuring Zhou Yiran and Zhang Jingyi, and it’s a story that continues to resonate with each viewing.

The moon is beautiful tonight
Reborn is a rare show. Its exploration of the human condition is both harrowing and beautiful. Great writing, great acting and great settings all come together to deliver an unforgettable show. This is one of the best shows, ever.Qing Yu is an amazing human being. She has the most pragmatic view on life. She has suffered, suffers through most of the story but explores her life through trying to understand what people are about. Then in the ultimate tribute to humankind, she gives back to all around her in spades.
Ming Sheng is both rebellious, unbending, loyal and someone who can’t stand his father and yet Qing Yu opens his eyes. These two together show how, as young actors, with so much experience behind them, can deliver a performance beyond other actors their age.
The writing is so respectful. The subject matter not easy I would think in that part of the world but full marks for tackling a number of key health and social issues on many different levels.
Qing Yu’s mum, a brilliant actress, who we have seen deliver great performances in other shows, is superb yet again. She deserves an award as does Zhang Jing Yi. We see a mother who is devastated, depressed, but determined to survive - because that’s what you must do.
Qing Yu’s wider family are the pits. The writing doesn’t hold back on how traditional village and family values make life tough. We cheer for her and her mum as they tackle the father’s family both head on and through doing the right thing.
Ming Sheng’s family is seen through the eyes of juggling a professional career. This is where the writing is brilliant. It has us thinking a certain way, with prejudices until we see subtle changes make us realise that his father is a decent human being.
Then to top it all off, the show reveals what love really means: the moon is beautiful tonight. That is to say, to share life with someone, with all its ups and downs but for you to be behind one another right up until the very end.

a story you don't want to forget
the hangover after this drama is impressive, because it is very difficult to find such a deep, realistic and at the same time beautiful story.topics that are raised, about acceptance in society, about gossip that can destroy everything and the consequences that follow every decision, so deep and realistic images that this drama becomes not just a story of love, but a path that not everyone can go.
the characters are gradually revealed, the secrets that disturb come to the surface. Watching all that was incredibly emotional for me.
i felt incredible chemistry between the main characters, although I would like more moments with them. nevertheless, this drama deserves the title of best of the year!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻

A HEAVY WATCH< BUT THAT'S MASTERPIECE.
I can't even count how many times my eyes got red & wet while watching this show. What a storyline!!I can't explain how much I related to Qingyu. The generational traumas, suffocating family natures, family violence. I loved her courage. Every time her parents tried to cut her wings, to stop her curiousity, to stop her from exposing injustice..she tried to fly even harder. As the elder daughter of family, my heart was crying for Beiyu. She would never become unstable if she grew up with her family and siblings. If her grandparents and father's side cared even a little for her.
Everyone has their own perspective. That doesn't mean they aren't at wrong with their mentality, views, words, actions, decisions. Some cut are too deep to forget and forgive. Beiyu and Qingyu's mother's heartwrenching grief touched me. It was too late to grief and regret!
Qingyu and Ming sheng were so cute. Stole my heart. Please i feel so fulfilled with their momentsss <'3

Deep, emotional realistic drama about life and coming-of-age
Reborn is a heartfelt coming-of-age and family drama that really surprised me with how deeply it hit. It shows modern society in a brutally realistic way—nosy neighbors, careless gossip, people who judge without knowing anything. At times, it felt so real it reminded me of things I’ve seen around me in real life. The story focuses on teenagers slowly growing up, making mistakes, clashing with their parents, and learning step by step what life and responsibility really mean. The characters can be frustrating—especially the leads, who sometimes act immature—but that’s what makes the growth feel earned and believable.
There were quotes that stayed with me long after, especially this one from Ming Sheng’s dad:
“Being an adult isn’t freedom—because everything you do freely comes with responsibility. True freedom is being a teenager.”
That hit deep and captured the painful transition into adulthood so well.
The FL’s bond with her sister and mom was beautiful and heartbreaking. I judged the mom at times, but the show made me realize—just like the FL did—that some parents love deeply but silently. The dance scene using her sister’s choreography had me crying hard. It felt like they were dancing together.
Even her little brother stood out—such a rare protective sibling dynamic that made me love him. Usually, siblings in dramas just tease or fight, but here, their bond felt so genuine, especially after their shared loss.
If I had to nitpick, the sudden friendship with the former bullies felt rushed and unearned. But still, I was happy to see the FL find a place where she belonged. She truly deserved that peace.
This is such a good, realistic coming-of-age drama that covers so many important themes. It truly deserves a 10 for being one of those rare shows about life—filled with lessons to learn and messages that stick with you long after it ends. It made me shed some tears which is personally rare so yeah. Also with how heavy it is overall, the ending quite literally makes up for everything, it was heartwarming.

Watch this if growing up has left you questioning whats true -and what really matters in life.^.^
From the very first episode , you will have questions about what's happening and why.But trust me , as the story unfolds, the answers begin to appear. Some behaviours may feel unsettling , even confusing at times , yet by the end , its like watching the sunset after waiting for it in harsh summer , u can't stand on the beach without feeling its beauty, its warmth and truth.I hope u have time to experience this journey, because its too relatable to miss and it tells about the harsh reality of lives who wish to dream , wish to build something beyond life and also want better life for their children and children wanting best for parents.
This drama will hit your conscience and maybe the way u think about the people around u and how u value them.
little disclaimer : this isn't a romance at its core , the plot is so real that it blends in your life .
and trust me u will understand everything at end .
though the end felt rushed but the story served its purpose to the fullest.
the cast , director, all the crew did their work at best working on details and aesthetics which elevated the perception of drama for me+.+
have great time watching it.

In a world where there is always a beacon of hope ?
finished 9.5/10 🌟What a wonderful journey I had with Reborn, a drama I didn't know I needed but that came to me at the crucial moment 💗
A raw, realistic and above all reflective story that makes us question how far we are willing to go to be happy.
This year has definitely been Zhang Jing Yi's year, his two 2025 dramas have been among the best of the year for me... She has a magic hand for choosing good products and always offers us an impeccable performance 👏✨
Zhou Yiran is a growing actor and he's doing very well. I loved his character and the personal growth he's had.
I have to highlight the script, which was IMPECCABLE, and the performances OUTSTANDING 👏💗
23 chapters where the direction and execution of the drama show you different nuances... you can't help but cry or feel angry because its characters captivate you.
Simply incredible.
I didn't put all the punctuation although I was tempted to do so because I would have liked the reconciliation not to have taken so long but for everything else it's incredible ✨

Crushed my soul
Genuinely the most heart-wrenching, soul-crushing, gut-punching thing I've watched. It's so perfect, everything, the plot, the characters. It's so beautifully written and so realistic. To the people who promoted this as just a youth romance drama, did this drama so dirty. Genuinely, it's so much more than that; it goes deep into the treatment of women and the tragic realities that many people go through, a story of courage. I love this drama so, so much. Not an episode went by without me crying one minute, but then I'd be giggling when Zhou Yiran showed up LOL.I'm so glad I decided to watch this. Zhou Yiran and Zhang Jinyi did NOT disappoint.
Also I would advice people to maybe be careful if sensitive because there are quite a lot of triggers: bullying, abuse, violence, victim blaming, slut shaming. Some people may be sensitive to these things, so be wary.

not the fluffy usual romance - a much better one than that
Having it tagged as "romance" and "youth", most of us expected it to be some fluffy drama halfway through the episodes - but it shattered my expectations. The romantic interest in the movie was just a background to the ongoing spiritual adversity our female lead's family is experiencing, so at least we would expect something by the end of the series to root for the two of them, but it wasn't ruining the mood for the mystery about the sister as well, which is a good balance.I didn't think it would actually turn out this dark by the end of the drama, and would actually go down that route. Still, it is such a good message for most families regarding too many expectations towards their children. Sometimes, we harden our emotions so much that we expect other people to have the same feeling that we do, just suck up all the problems, knowing that each of us takes pains to heart differently. Bei Yu's story is heartbreaking for every sister, especially as the eldest who gets pressured every day to be the future provider of the family. In fact, I started hating the family because of what was happening; it was the mother at the start, then the father. I find them so cold and harsh for how they treated their daughter like that. But then, along the way, I learned that they just grieved differently, and I can't blame them for having to mourn that way. I've seen some people handle death in distinct ways; they cry their heart out, they smile to deny the death, they pretend to be alright, or it's a late process of acceptance. As for Bei Yu's family, I believe that they are at the point of late acceptance, as they still cannot process the entire truth of her death and would rather just run away from the reality.
The thing is that this movie may have angst for the family's treatment of Bei Yu, but as you watch until the end, you will realize why they actually acted and handled that way. Why have they decided to just treat it like Bei Yu was a bad daughter despite knowing the truth? It's because, as parents, they are afraid to hammer the wall that's already cracked. The moment the reality was mirrored to everyone, the family started breaking, and that's what the parents were trying to avoid the whole time. They can't afford to lose more of their children.
CHARACTER ANALYSIS:
1. Qiao Qing Yi - starting off the drama, all she wanted was to discover the reason for her sister's death. She used to hate her for all the bad influence she left behind not knowing what she actually suffered to become like that. Qing Yi was an immature child to start off the drama, she thinks least of the effect of what she's doing or what might happen if she does this and that. But then on the other side, her justice to seek the reality over her sister's death was the best part of her. It's another way of showing how much she actually loved and valued her sister, that even after death, she would still defend her reputation. She may seem like an aloof person, but she takes things by heart a lot.
2. Ming Sheng - he seemed to be one of the bullies at the start, but Ming Sheng is one of the green flag male leads that I love, to be honest. He was always there for Qing Yi, even at her darkest times. Throughout the whole drama, he has been good to her, even though sometimes she doesn't know what he did for her. Even at Qing Yi's separation arc, he is still very much willing to come with her, and I think that Ming Sheng is a perfect example of what we actually should be towards someone we love so much.
3. Fang Hao (Qing Yi's mother) - to be honest, I hated her at the beginning of the series for the reason that she is way too cold-hearted about her eldest daughter's death. Not knowing that she actually was the one who suffered the most with the grief. Her character has so much to hide at the start of the series that it's very hard to see if she really was emotionally affected. But by the end, she's the one I pity the most. She suffered way too much with what happened that she just decided that "Oh fuck it, whatever fixes everything" and just goes along with what makes the family stand strong. Fang Hao is honestly the brick of the house. By the time she started falling apart, the family was torn. When she was standing strong, the family was pretty strong too, and I think that's part of the reason why she appeared to be emotionally well checked at the beginning.
4. Lu Sheng (Qing Yu's father) - he has always been like a can that was crushed several times but still remains a can. Since the beginning of the series, he has always looked emotionally strong until we figured out how he was just bottling up his feelings. He just wanted to appear strong for the family, but to be honest, he cared a lot about the things his wife was suffering too. I especially got emotional when he actually saw his daughter's contest and did not say anything about it, but just put it inside her bag instead. That small gesture showed how he already accepted everything, the imperfection of their family, and would rather they just have a happy life in the end instead.
To be honest, all of their actings are heartfelt, especially Liu Dan's (Fang Hao), that is what top acting does look like. I could feel every part of her emotion, even when she got depressed, and it literally made me cry when it showed her backstory of actually suffering from grief. It was too much. On the other hand, I think Jing Yi (Qing Yu) should try to improve her acting skills in terms of dark dramas like this because she seems too innocent and doesn't show many emotions, especially her facial expressions. It just seems the same expression the whole time. If she could at least improve, this series would have been even better.
Overall, if you are looking for a romance drama right from the start, this is not for you. The whole series is more like a family drama than romance. It talks more about growing up, family struggles, and hidden emotions. Romance only appeared in the last episode. But if you are into angst dramas, this is definitely for you. It does kind of remind me of the parents from Love Like the Galaxy, to be honest.

Worth it to watch
I really loved this drama! I thought Lighter and Princess would forever be my favorite C-drama, but after watching this, it instantly became my #1, with L&P now in second place. This drama felt so relatable to me. The Chinese culture shown here is so similar to the Philippines—especially the part where you have to follow your very strict parents. The way parents stay deeply connected with the in-laws, sometimes to the point of becoming a burden, was portrayed so realistically.
But what makes this drama stand out is that it’s not just about romance—it beautifully highlights the strength of family relationships and the importance of family values. The lessons they want to impart to viewers are heartfelt and meaningful.
Highly recommended! It’s truly worth watching.
