There's no investigation/detective in twelve letters but the mystery , angst and communicating with past/future kind of reminds me of signal .

The vibes of Love Story in the 1970s reminded me so much of Twelve Letters for some reason. As a person who loved both, I can say that if you liked one of these you'll like the other. In all the C-dramas I've watched, these 2 have a distinct aura that's very similar.

I think the couple pairing is on point for Sun Qian/Chen Feiyu! Genuinely they reminded me sm of Zhou Yiran/Wang Yinglu in Twelve Letters.

A K-drama similar to Love Story in the 1970s would When Life Gives You Tangerines.

If you like dramas with elements of fantasy like time travel but with the focus being on the characters, their friendships, romances and, life, these two dramas have a good balance of that.
Both dramas include:
1. stories centered around troubled youth/unconventional or unhealthy family dynamics
2. an elements of travel/connection between timelines/parallel worlds
3 a tragedy connected to regrets of the past
4. gangster villains
5. found family/tightly knit group of friends
6. lighthouses...
7. striving to get into university
8. young love
9. special retro vibe, beautiful aesthetics and small town core
10. self-sacrificing male leads

Spoilers!! (kinda)
Story-wise these dramas aren't that similar, but Endless Sea reminds of Twelve Letters. The idea of two young people trying to change their parents' / grandparents' fate with a letter as the key seems similar. While Endless Sea is about a time loop where both leads end up on the same day several times, trying to break the loop; Twelve Letters features the characters from the present trying to connect to the leads from the past via a letterbox.
Twelve Letters is much more complex and heart-wrenching, and Endless Sea is a quick, easy watch.

In "I Belonged to Your World", the FL's son travels back in time to prevent his mother from having a bad life. I got that same sentiment in "Twelve Letters".

In both dramas, the sons of of the FL's are selfless about their parents.

Both stories follow a character haunted by a painful past, and the plot is driven by slowly uncovering the truth behind that trauma. Twelve Letters does it through the letters that reveal old wounds, while Had I Not Seen the Sun does it through memories and emotional fallout. In both, the past keeps bleeding into the present, reshaping who the character becomes.
