Immersive storytelling

My ratings here are relative to how other similar c-dramas are being rated on this website. Obviously there is no such thing as a perfect tv show.Gorgeous production quality, intriguing story, convincing cast. For those who love anime and mangas (not traditional C-drama xianxia) or even high end games like black myth - incredibly rendered in live action tv series. The setting and quality is way above the level of the usual (mediocre and obviously fake) fantasy c-drama setting. This one actually immerses you in the world of the characters and draws you into their universe. Many scenes feel more like a movie rather than a TV series, and warrant a rewind / pause just to admire the beauty and vision of the design. Script and storytelling is tight and fast paced with many interesting hints of what lies ahead throughout for those who enjoy piecing together puzzles when watching c-dramas. This is one drama where you'll be rewinding key dialogues just to make sure you heard correctly and didn't miss a crucial foreshadowing/hint. Acting here is spot on. All the characters from the subtle but superbly convincing portrayal by LYX to the engaging and interesting supporting characters - succeed in adding to the immersive experience. So far there isn't any jarring or annoying 'pulled out of story' moment from bad acting (unlike in some recent and concurrently airing c-dramas in similar genres where I actually like the Leads and was so looking forward to the tv shows - but alas got unwillingly jerked out of the story by half baked acting, inconsistent character interpretations/portrayals, annoying in-your-face artificial settings, and couldn't continue)

Wounded souls

Episode 3 really made me emotional with the heartfelt conversation between A-Shui and Jiang Fei Yu (Yanmen sect's leader). A certain father who lost his son, but doesn't know who exactly was behind his child's de@th, and a daughter who recently lost her father, and had decided to wed an older man to cover funeral expenses. "Have you ever lost a son? If not, you wouldn't understand.." These words really struck me. Not any person can truly empathise with another if one has never experienced the pain. He isn't entirely wrong. No matter how much empathy one gives to someone who's grieving a loss, they can never fully understand the extent to which the concerned person is going through... May you rest in peace, Jiang Cheng... You will never be forgotten, and live on in the hearts of your dear father, your sect members, and also in our hearts...
